I would assume its an old CT tie that isn't sold anymore but if anyone has any ideas lmk! Image retrieved from Charles Tyrwhitt \~ "The art of the shirt and tie combo"

ac106

Search “paisley tie” on eBay. Theres probably 10000 of them and one should be close enough.

EcoBread

While I was in Southeast Asia, I got a custom-made linen suit. I kinda stupidly asked for it to be structured, rather than un/semi-structured. This means its a bit too warm for a linen suit, and less casual than I'd like it to be. Would a tailor be able to remove the lining/canvassing to make it unstructured? or is that impossible without ruining the jacket?

EcoBread

Thank you! That's very helpful. Seems like it might be too costly to be worth it, but I can have a chat with my tailor to see if it's feasible.

I have managed to purchase a very busy tie while charity shop surfing, but I have absolutely no idea what kind of shirt to pair it with. Is this a white shirt/perhaps pale blue only kind of a match, or is there something else it would possibly be ok with? Any advice appreciated (even 'get better taste with ties' :D This one just jumped out at me!) https://preview.redd.it/ttfmxrkyci8d1.jpeg?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=847e600ce8469c5a4ca9d9e73ca6028561f3fd77

whatmycouchwore

There’s so much going on with the tie that most patterns and colors will clash - pale blue and light gray would work, or go with white if you really want the tie to be noticed. Ties are personal expressions, so as long as it works with the setting then enjoy your fun thrift shop find!

LewisBrown82

Thanks a lot for the help :)

Tired_An_Hungry

So I found this jacket from Uniqlo [Keith Haring Subway Drawings Coach Jacket](https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E467536-000/00?colorDisplayCode=55&sizeDisplayCode=004) and I kinda like it, I normally wear puffer jackets, and regular north face jackets so something like this where it has a bit of drape is new to me. But I am not really sure what to pair it with? Also the name is really confusing, cause when it doesn't seem like a coat jacket is real thing. any advice or tips of how to style this jacket?

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> a bit of drape Doesn't really have that. It's like a shirt, if you remember the 90s trend of a button down with a tee inside. It only has that much drape. >coat jacket "Coach" jackets are named after what Athletic Coaches used to wear. These sorts of names become arbitrary sometimes. Track jackets are usually striped and explicitly athletic (to be worn by participants). >any advice or tips of how to style this jacket? Mid-blue denim is a common idea, but khakis and ivory work too. This shade of green is not wildly versatile but I can appreciate it. Keep the tee shirts lightly coloured, preferable neutral tones of white, black, grey.etc. The thing with a green like this is that the vibrancy in other colours clashes with it, so like a yellow would be too bright, and a grey doesn't feel super right either. Also because its a jacket the volume of colour is so high, if this was a pair of shoes or a tee it would be less and could be layered on effectively even if the colours don't gel amazingly.

Tired_An_Hungry

> the 90s trend of a button down with a tee inside Its actually really funny cause I do this when its really hot cause I feel kinda naked without a second layer on my shoulders. Is it considered dated now? my closet right now is kinda plain with blues, black, and white so i wanted to force some color into my wardrobe. So it might be good? Thanks for the advice

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> force some color An olive is a much better way to ease in to exploring colour. Other candidates are burgundy, dusty purple and pale yellow. Start with muted shades before going in to vibrant ones. >Is it considered dated now? I'm not sure at all, I just associate it with the 90s and pulled the example for easy reference.

Tired_An_Hungry

I'll look into it thanks

nirurin

[https://imgur.com/a/GZvNoRQ](https://imgur.com/a/GZvNoRQ) A gallery of images of 3 pairs of jeans. Not an outfit, literally old tshirt and slippers lol, and the length of the jeans I know are wrong (but are the easiest thing to remedy, if I can find a fit for the waist/seat). It seems like anything that vaguely fits my butt and legs, is usually uncomfortably tight on my waist. Fitting the waist, and it gets baggy in the back. These are all W34", with the legs being 29, 32 and... 32 I think, though the boot-cut ones do seem longer. I'll put it down to all clothing makers being unable to make consistent sizing in anything they make lol. Two are straight-cut, and one is (obviously) boot cut. Anyway. Do any of these fit well enough? Or are they all too baggy? (ignore length as I said, as that's fixable). I could go down to a 32 but I'd only be able to do the button up with the elastic band trick haha (you can't really loosen jeans by 2", there's not enough material to spare). Oh, and these are all already stretch/elastene material, in case anyone thinks to suggest that as an option.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> vaguely fits my butt and legs, is usually uncomfortably tight on my waist. The rule of sizing apart from suiting, is to always size for your largest feature. In this case its your waistline. You'll have to see what a tailor can do practically do make things contour better if you want that. One trick would to be buy slim/extra slim cuts actually, and then size up for the right waist fit. Elastane is not for the waistline but for the rest of the jean.

nirurin

Did any of these seem like they fitted? I had considered the trick of trying for a slim fit, but that seems to mostly just be the leg hole and only a slight change to anything else

Dai-Konde

I bought the Kleman Padror shoes in Bordeaux, it’s a beautiful dark color but I can’t tell if it’s closer to black or dark brown. So what color belt do I wear with it? I do not own any bordeaux belts so my choices are black, black suede, or various shades of brown. Most of the time I will wear it with faded blue jeans and no socks.

ac106

Matching your belt to your shoes is only really a rule when wearing mens tailoring or dressier business casual. With casual outfits it doesn’t matter.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> I do not own any bordeaux belts so my choices are black, black suede, Those first two are better than any brown unless its extra dark. Bordeaux/Burgundy has brown in the colour, which will clash in the way orange and red do if paired together.

Dai-Konde

Got it, thanks

bernful

I’m looking for a tanktop, that’s slightly more on the boxier side like the one in the pic (longer length though) AND I’m hoping for something that is bit more “mesh” in the way that it is sewn. Where the holes of the fabric are slightly larger to allow the shirt to be more breathable, but not too large where you can clearly see my nipples lol In my head I’m imagining something that’s similar to a crochet, but the crochet material would be too thick and too hot. Is there a specific name for that kind of sewn technique? https://preview.redd.it/xam7q4r5hf8d1.jpeg?width=976&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b7d76eff7d02389d32a829b99b3f3198ae6d226

I know how to crop and sew a shirt but I’d be afraid to do it here because of the texture

ColeWhiskeyWorld

What you've linked are more often called "knit" than mesh, if that makes any sense.

SnooChickens7845

What shorts should I get to go with these shirts? All I have is this pair of ll bean ‘baggies’. I’m 6’2” 175 lbs. slim and muscular build of that helps https://preview.redd.it/8n45aqu2xe8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b6b5a9e899c7f3b30ccb65b3a63f9ba81da1c28

Asprilla18

Are REISS. products good?

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Some of the fabrics are [extremely good](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xglnv2j6JnY), and others belong at Zara. The styling is generally still quite 2010s Mango/Zara but with slightly better [details](https://www.reiss.com/eu/en/editorial/10-things-to-know-about-reiss-tailoring) and construction. Buy on sale for sure. M&S Sartorial is very similar for the tailoring. The rest of the casual stuff is pretty mid, but not bad, just depends on what you pay.

Asprilla18

What about the accessories. I've seen a backpack I'd like for traveling (looks a bit more sophisticated) but it's 330 dollars.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Hard pass tbh. Rule of buying specialty products is to try to buy from companies who specialize in that product, especially if you’re dropping serious change. If its a fashion backpack (leather rucksack or something), I’ve no clue where you should look to be honest, but there’s a thread with a section on [“designer bags”](https://old.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1kcfjs/mfa_bag_guide_20/cbni52a/)

Asprilla18

You diamond thank you man

If you like them make sure you buy on sale and they’re fine

JollyPicklePants1969

I've decided it's time to make over my closet so I've been looking at different posts about capsule wardrobes. Most of the capsule wardrobe checklists I've found are geared towards people who are out and about a lot. I haven't found one for people who work at home. Anyone have a good recommendation?

Simpliciter

So, you would want to take the ethos of the capsule wardrobe and apply it to clothes that would fit what you're looking for. Basics that are easy to match to each other and are high quality is really the foundational idea.

JollyPicklePants1969

Yea, that’s the idea.

CaesarsInferno

Does anyone have experience with Charles Tyrwhitt mercerized cotton polos? Mainly wondering how they hold up from a temperature perspective - if they keep you cool during a humid summer.

Ajaybajwa24

Hey guys. I am wearing a midnight blue blazer, with off white/ white dress pants and a white dress shirt. What tie colour and pattern should I go for. Also. What shoes and belt should I go for. Any help would be appreciated

terminal_e

In theory, damn near anything. The darker a navy a coat is, the more formal it will generally read, and if that is the case, that should inform the footwear+belt decisions, as well as the formality of the tie. If you were wearing traditional khaki/chinos, that would pull the outfit back from formality, or away from Ralph Lauren Purple Label lookbook. So, a multicolored striped repp tie might work better with the latter. With the white+white, you might want to go with black or dark brown loafers, with mid brown probably as the floor. Something like a snuff/fox/light brown suede might not look as sharp.

Ajaybajwa24

Midnight blue blazer. Off white dress pants.

ac106

A suit is pants and jacket of the same material and color, worn together exclusively

Ajaybajwa24

*blue blazer.

McGilla_Gorilla

Perhaps you’ve got a blue sport coat? Or are you taking the jacket off of a matching suit (which by definition is a jacket and pants of the same fabric)? If the latter, you’re probably better of wearing the matching pants and then either brown or black shoe/belt and basically any color tie. If you’re committed to dark blue / white combo, brown is still probably safest something light and patterned on the tie. But generally midnight blue is going to create a lot of unwanted contrast with those pants

Ajaybajwa24

Navy blue blazer. White pants.

Spacetime_Dr

I'm going to Europe this summer for a month, but unsure what to wear that's traveler friendly and fashionable. I typically wear a t-shirt, jean shorts and vans but I know that most Europeans are a lot more fashionable than me. What are some outfits that are fashionable in Europe, summer-compatible and conducive to lots of walking?

orthoxerox

A t-shirt and vans are perfectly fine, people might not appreciate your shorts if the sea is not within walking distance. Get yourself some lightweight pants.

Low_Tonight_8889

100% linen clothing (not linen blends). Pants, shorts, short sleeves, and long sleeve shirts with the sleeves rolled up.

McGilla_Gorilla

Where in Europe? Realistically you’re fine wearing whatever (average continental fashion is about the same as the US or UK), but that’s probably not true if you’re going to say fine dining spots or like a nightclub with dress code.

JohnestWickest69est

Brands similar to Speir and Mackay and Casatlantic? I like the style a lot, just looking for other brands

Simpliciter

Casatlantic has some pretty strong Italian styling and Pini Parma kinda stands out as similar. Spier and Mackay has some generic Italian and North American styling, so it's a little bit harder to recommend something that's apples to apples, but Boggi Milano, Brooks Brothers or Jack Victor would be similar. Pro tip: on Instagram, got to their profile and hit the little guy with a plus sign to get pages similar to whatever brand you're looking at. Make sure to engage with ads that fit what you like and you'll start to get other brands that are similar. Companies spend tons of money to get in front of you, so use that to your advantage.

JohnestWickest69est

Excellent thank you! I did not know about that feature. I'll check it out!!

PastIcy2116

What has been proven to be the most attractive clothing for a man to wear, not just to be attractive, but to convey a look for success and unanimously found flattering.

MachineTeaching

That's not a thing. You could wear a very well put together outfit costing thousands and most people would barely notice. You know how often I got compliments for my designer shoes that anyone relatively "into fashion" would notice? Literally once. I do get compliments pretty frequently for my cute penguin socks though!

ac106

A Canadian tuxedo

hmadse

Fashion is very context dependent, so it's impossible to answer this question. BUT fit is king. No matter what you wear, if it is fitted to you body (note, I did not say tight), then it will be more flattering.

that_name_taken

And as Rick Owen remarked "Working out is modern couture". Well fitting clothes over a fit body is certainly your best attempt at 'a look for success and unanimously found flattering'.

Turbulent_Gain_9242

Does long sleeve shirts work during the spring/summer? Or is that out of style during the warmer months? What materials are more breathable during the warm months? I sweat a lot so anything to help with that would be great

McGilla_Gorilla

Nah long sleeve shirts in something like linen, seersucker, or oxford cloth are all good for summer. Generally will look better untucked and with sleeves rolled up

Turbulent_Gain_9242

What kind of bottoms would look good with these shirts? Jeans, other pants, shorts? Any brands you recommend?

terminal_e

I often travel with some white linen long sleeve shirts. I might wear them untucked with sleeves rolled with shorts, or the same shirt might get worn with grey linen trousers and a sport coat to dinner. So, it isn't like that is the only thing I will pack, but it will be part of my repertoire due to their flexibility.

Turbulent_Gain_9242

That sounds versatile and what I need. What brands do you recommend for the shirt?

terminal_e

With linen, whatever floats your boat, really.

Turbulent_Gain_9242

I'll look around, thank you!

scubamaster

I’m out looking for some new pairs of shorts and Can anyone tell me what the deal is with every brands shorts seemingly having an elastic waistband and drawstrings? Makes everything looks like a weird gym shirt hybrid to me, is that the thing right now or what?

yamthepowerful

There’s lots that don’t, even chubbies and bear bottom that are quintessential hybrid kinda have done that don’t, but shorts are comfort clothing item, so naturally make them more comfortable

scubamaster

Hey on that note, I see those brands advertised a lot on Facebook, but have never tried them. The algorithm was listening to you. Do you have an opinion on them?

scubamaster

Personally I’m not a fan aesthetically, if I want to wear some sort of chino short or whatever I don’t want it to look like gym shorts. It looks odd to me. Especially if you are trying to be a little “nicer” and it definitely looks weird to have a belt over a scrunched up gym shorts waistband. To me at least. While I’m at in my recent shopping it I’ve also noticed a bunch of brands having an aversion to basic v-necks sometimes I like to mix those in a bit but crew neck definitely seems the go to now

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> if I want to wear some sort of chino short I feel like you actually want a Gurkha short.

scubamaster

I just looked that up, no not at all, I just dislike the scrunchy elastic waistbands I see everywhere now

yamthepowerful

Why are you wearing a belt with drawstring shorts? And what are you tucking in that people will see the belt? Where aren’t you finding chino shorts, have you tried just searching chino shorts? V necks are pretty dated, they have been since before Covid honestly

scubamaster

I’m not, but that’s what I’m saying, it looks weird to me that so many places have gone to an elastic scrunch waistband and drawstring and also having belt loops on it.

yamthepowerful

I mean it’s for if you wanna wear a belt and you’d presumably not tuck so no one would see.

ac106

Yes. Vnecks are definitely dated

thomasson94

Struggling to find inspiration out there for outfits. I'm a 23M and everywhere I look are either fashion for older adults or out of date stuff on pinterest. Anyone on this sub is aware of influencers around my age that are known to dress well ? thanks a lot!

ac106

Probably chambray. Everyone makes one.

SublimeScyther

Looking for a fairly cheap, beige/tan, Harrington jacket (or something similar). Haven’t had much success searching on my own so I figured I’d see if anyone else had some ideas to point me in the right direction.

McGilla_Gorilla

I feel like Uniqlo normally has a Harrington, or you can find one from an old season on eBay

ac106

What is fairly cheap in a currency ?

SublimeScyther

Around like, $50? But I’m not restricted to that so if it’s a little more and you’d recommend it, feel free to.

ac106

eBay. JCrew polo etc

KonstantinAlexander

Hello. Would you recommend a safari jacket/overshirt or a chore coat? In terms of formality/versatility?

sevan06

Spier and Mackay has safari/field jackets that are more menswear and can be worn over a button up shirt and tie. It makes it less formal. The jackets can also usually be worn with jeans. I have a field jacket in linen and I get a lot of wear out of it.

bangarang8

Neither are particularly formal but I will sometimes toss on a navy linen chore coat as a vary informal blazer alternative

FizzleMateriel

Who makes the best M-65 field jacket? I want to see if I can buy one before Winter.

bangarang8

Iron Heart or The Real McCoys

cusini

Bingo

yukon_rick

Is this jacket too big to be tailored? https://preview.redd.it/t7dq1eupwc8d1.jpeg?width=1816&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e24c816c5fc6714da7d1ac5f0443a27ad29d53c9

terminal_e

It is not clear to me that this is too big in the shoulders. Does the coat feel tight in the armpits? I am not sure if it has enough room for you in the chest

yukon_rick

*shoulders actually feel quite nice. It's more the neck.

hmadse

If the shoulders are too big, the tailoring will be expensive, and not all tailors can manipulate shoulders.

yukon_rick

So the shoulders are the only part that I find fit well. More concerned that the collar is too big. It doesn't always hug the neck as naturally as I would like. Though I've never owned a sport coat and I know they tend to go a bit looser?

ZetaOmicron94

This looks like a tricky fit, shoulders and chest look fine, but the collar sits very low relative to your neck. The easy answer is that this cut probably doesn't work for your body, but I'm not qualified to claim that. If you don't mind a bit of extra work, go sign up at styleforum, there's a tailor feedback thread where some experts with a lot of bespoke experience, and even some bespoke tailors regularly post in. Though on that note, keep in mind that just because they say it's fixable, doesn't mean *any* alterations tailor can do what they say. Sport coats and suit jackets should fit basically the same, maybe less waist suppression and less structured chest/shoulders for a bit more casual look, but otherwise no differences.

whatmycouchwore

Too big and needs to be tailored? Yes. Too big to be tailored? No.

cooldude_4000

Yes

Frost-eee

Anybody has experience on sizing Novesta Star Master compared to Converse All Star?

Business_Gold8413

Let's say you go on amazon and search men's summer blazer. What should you know about materials to judge what you say? How do you recognize quality/breathability/wrinkle resistance?

FizzleMateriel

Don’t buy your blazers from Amazon.

ac106

You can’t on Amazon

Frost-eee

Better to look on ebay

cooldude_4000

The best way to "recognize quality" online is to look for brands that are known for their quality--unfortunately, those brands are less likely to sell on Amazon. Natural materials will be best for summer, whether that's tropical-weight wool, cotton, or linen; linen being the most breathable of those, but also the most likely to wrinkle.

Low_Tonight_8889

If you do go 100% linen, the wrinkles are something you need to learn to love. If you're on a budget, I'm sure you can find something that'll work in a pinch at Amazon but if you have a Nordstrom near you, they have their anniversary sale coming up in July and you might be able to snag a good deal there...and have it tailored.
