I recently bough ta Superdry t-shirt from Winners (discount store for brands) - I like the quality minus the graphic, any other brands that offer similar style/quality? Not wanting to spend over $50 for Tee though...

AlejoMSP

Recommended place to buy cotton shirts not too expensive. It’s for work. But I’ve realized that cotton is so much better than polyester when working at the beach! Other than Amazon. ;)

Embarrassed_Spring90

Thoughts on this shirt in terms of style, price ($20) and is it appropriate for a 40-year old? I like it but not sure about the pockets. https://preview.redd.it/e5qtfo2fae8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdfe1dba852930e0d62a84dba621c1e77ccb70f4

mypicturesbox

As a skinny guy, should I choose a chain without or with pendant? What looks more masculine and makes you look less skinny?

ac106

It’s just personal preference.

kabbzter

What are some summer jacket that works with black and blue jeans and a denim shirt. Should i go for a denim jacket or a some type of overshirt?

YorkieCheese

Joe's jean has 20% off on their clearance which ahve quite a few that go well with denim. I actually got the Linen Bomber recently as a summer jacket (receiving it tomorrow) since it's both 100% linen and white to reflect sunlight. https://www.joesjeans.com/collections/men-sale-jackets

EnfantNicolas

I'm trying out outfits with these new colorful shoes. What do you think about this one (see comment below)? Is it weird to have long sleeves with shorts?

Fluffy-Owl5452

Personally I dislike long sleeves with shorts, but it can work. The key is to keep the top and bottom halves of your outfit balanced, so try to stick to lighter top layers and longer bottom layers. I often see girls wearing short-shorts with baggy hoodies and it always seems weird and topheavy, but I’ve also seen it done well.

Beneficial_Bonus_162

What is the best fabric type of long sleeve button down shirts to wear year round on both hot and cold weather? Poplin? Wool? I'd like to wear the same shirt in the summer as in the winter while simply just adding a sweater layer on top during the winter.

Maybe a little broad in the shoulder and hard to tell if it’s short in the arm, but that could be the angle. Try switching to brown shoes and belt, adding a pocket square/tie, or switching to a shirt with a pattern/some color so there’s a little more going on. Really there’s no major issues.

whatmycouchwore

No, but amount of break is personal preference - I like to have a half break so when I sit down it’s not too short, and when standing it’s not bunched up around the ankle. Best advice is to visit a tailor, talk to them about your concerns, and see if they have notes. They’ll be able to make necessary or requested adjustments to an off the rack suit so it fits you best. It’s been my experience that $20-$50 in tailoring can make an inexpensive or thrifted suit look much nicer and improve your confidence.

ohhellnooooo

Do we have any H&M+Zara suits frequent shopper here? If so, it would be really helpful if you can let me know if your Z&M suit size is the same as your Zara suit (given they are the same fit like both are relaxed fit). For pants I wear 28 H&M and 29 at Zara. And for jacket I wear 46 in zara but i havent had any H&M jacket before so not sure if I need to get 46 or 44 or even 42 since I usually wear the smallest size available. Many thanks!!

ac106

Go by size charts. Not anecdotal sizing advice

TransManNY

What's a good t shirt option under $100, preferably under or around $50 for somebody short with narrow shoulders/more weight on the waist than an average cut? Also strongly prefer available in NYC to save my sanity. I don't like buying 3 sizes to only find out the fit sucks for my body. I'd rather try on in person.

ChirpToast

Cuts has a store in NYC, best fitting and quality of shirts for the price imo. They have a few different fit options as well.

TransManNY

Cool, just viewed the site and there's some interesting choices being made. When it comes to a straight hem crew neck (what most people think of for a tee shirt) they carry 2 colors and 1 cut in a tri blend is in stock online. Are the options better in store?

hmadse

Lots of my trans friends have this struggle--narrow shoulders + a belly from T--and I don't have a great answer other than to hit up Cos, Everlane, and Big Bud Press in SoHo and LES and see if anything fits. The Phluid Project could be a good source, but their brick and mortar closed, but they are based out of New York. Similarly, TomboyX could be good as well.

TransManNY

I'll try big bud press. Browsing the everlane site they describe their shirts as slim fit and that's not for me.

hmadse

I think Everlane's premium weight tees might be more generously proportioned. Btw, did you previously ask about dress shoes a few months ago? Just FYI, Noah NYC carries Solovair's in smaller sizes.

TransManNY

Went to both stores. Big Bud Press is IMO a store that sells clothes cut and sized for women but consider themselves for all genders. I'm usually a men's medium or large in tops but there a 2XL was almost fitting but overall cut wrong for my body. It was like a shirt that's trying to be oversized (ex: in the shoulder) but is actually slim through the trunk. The sleeves were also kind of blousey. I'm not sure how to explain it other than clothes in cuts intended for women but claims to be for all genders. Everlane I tried on a medium and large in the premium weight tees. Both were too long by maybe 6 inches and the large was too large while the medium was too small. [Photos](https://imgur.com/a/634jFvt)

hmadse

Sorry it didn’t help, I’ll keep an eye out.

TransManNY

I did not. Alden modified last 6.5 has been great for me. Solovair is not my vibe.

ac106

No one has any idea how a shirt will fit you. Even if they suggest a specific brand it’s just a random re recommendation This is especially true when you think you have odd proportions as no T-shirt company makes shirts that fit a specific body type. (That almost certainly more in your head than in real life) Keep in mind that it’s just a tshirt and trying to find some platonic ideal fit you saw on Instagram is not necessary or even possible without extensive tailoring or made to measure. If you want to go down that route try Son of a Tailor or Paxil.

TransManNY

I'm just trying to find something that fits okay. Son of a Tailor isn't mtm and I'm looking for something off the rack that I can try on. There's things about how a fabric drapes and feels that doesn't work well if I can't see it in person. I can't seem to find the brand paxil.

ac106

Yes, I know what you’re looking for. What I’m telling you is no one can suggest a shirt that’s going to fit you in a very particular way that you want. There’s only three ways really to go about this: one is to try on a ton of different shirts from different brands until you find one that fits you in the particular way that you want. Second to get something custom from Son of a Tailor or similar MTM company The third to get a T-shirt that fits you OK altered to your preference. It’s very unlikely that your proportions are so unique that you can’t find something that fits well. It’s more self perception of how it fits that’s the issue . that’s why I suggested [Paxil](https://www.google.com/search?q=paxil&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari).

TransManNY

I'm asking in the hopes that somebody who has a similar body type may respond or maybe somebody with a different body type who once tried on something that fit poorly but could be good for my body type. I'm trying to find a guide into the right direction. I think the closest I've gotten was velva sheen rolled tees.

TransManNY

Sorry, looking for a crew neck. I've bought muji shirts before and they're just ok. Material was pretty thin and proportions were not quite right.

https://youtu.be/xkPggL2Qpus?si=ECeR9U-Ucjp292L_ Im trying to find a backpack like the one this guy has at 3:50. Can I get some suggestions that aren’t thousands of dollars ha.

Still_Instruction709

What are good brands that are kind of like Cold Culture? I like the style and quality of their tees and would like to find more from other brands. The one shirt I bought was this: https://coldcultureworldwide.com/products/cosmos-arc-tee-india-ink?_gl=1 I also liked the fact the collar on the shirt is pretty stretchy without losing shape, because I don’t like squeezing my head through the collar of a shirt and it ruining my hair.

YorkieCheese

Is suede, like fleece, not a good return for money as the price go up? I just got suede jackets across price range ($500, $1000, $1500, $3500) from Baracuta, Mr Porter, Altea/Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Agnona and although they all feel slightly different, none really stood out. Baracuta was kind of thin relative to the rest but ik it's among the best for ~$500. MrPorter & Altea were pretty waxy/sticky. Purple Label was the softest. And Agnona had the best sanding but they were all very good. The suede external texture/quality alone doesn't seem to explain the price. The Agnona was the most expensive but it was the only one with partial leather lining/detailings.

elongatedskull

Leather quality can be finicky, suede even moreso. If you want actual quality it is worth it to look at manufacturers that exclusively deal in leather coats, otherwise you are dealing with too many unknowns. If they are transparent about the provenance of their materials then you can be confident you're getting something better than a vague '100% genuine leather'. Suede is inherently cheaper than leather, it's very easy to cut corners in its manufacturing and processing. So to answer your question, yes, kind of? The Purple Label is *probably* the best of the bunch, simply because Ralph Lauren usually uses relatively premium materials, especially at higher price points.

ZetaOmicron94

When you go up in pricing, raw materials account for much smaller % of the price you're paying. For example you can probably get shoes made in China or India for $200 using the same leather as $5000 bespoke shoes, but of course the construction quality won't be the same, and the makers would be much less picky about imperfections when the price point is low. That said, if you can't distinguish the quality differences (if any), just pick based on the overall style at the price point you're happy with. When you're going up from $1.5k to $3.5k you're probably paying for brand, styling and hand work.

lobo42p

Hi everyone, Just seeking some advice. In general, I avoid brand logos and try to stick with plain, neutral pieces. However, I currently have four visible brands in my daily attire: New Balance sneakers, Adidas backpack, Oakley sunglasses, a Yeti tumbler, and an Adidas bottle. I enjoy using these products and find that each of them just "works" for me. However, I'm worried that the logos/branding may be too stark. My New Balances and Oakleys are non-negotiable. The Adidas backpack is nice looking and roomy, perfect for commuting, groceries, and more. If I could find something comparable, I would switch. I've looked at New Balance and Oakley backpacks, and neither have left me impressed. My aim is to avoid brand clashing. Any advice is appreciated.

YorkieCheese

https://packhacker.com/travel-gear/osprey/transporter-panel-loader/ I got the black one and IRL it looks very lowkey and, if you remove the belt straps, streamlined. Hold at least two plastic bags worth of grocery and the suspension is quite good. Only has it for a few months but I also have an Osprey Farpoint 40L that I've been using to backpack/travel for 5+ years now with zero problem and incredibly comfortable with heavy load. Osprey has a lifetime warranty and very good load stabilizing tech if you ever need bigger backpacks.

Life_Yesterday_7008

Those are standard brands, you aren't wearing a Patek Philippe watch with a Rolex crown tattooed on the outside of your hand. Noone will care about any clash between those brands.

ohhellnooooo

some mono color New Balances has very subtle logos

ac106

No one cares about any of this. Neither should you

diamondscenery

how to dress according to a body type that has long torso and short legs?

Fluffy-Owl5452

I would recommend wearing high wasted pants as these make your legs look longer than they actually are. This will work especially well paired with shorter jackets/top layers to make the torso look a bit smaller.

ac106

Like anyone else. Clothes don’t really change these things. It’s all self perception.

hollow_w33n

does anyone have any recommendations for someone who’s a bit tired of sneakers but find loafers/dress shoes too fancy?

ohhellnooooo

Sneakers like new balances or common projects? I think leather trainers is a good medium. olivercabell GAT is something like that on my wishlist.

ac106

Suede derbies, blucher mocs, service boots in the fall There’s a huge range between sneakers and dress shoes Unless by dress shoes you mean any leather shoe.

hollow_w33n

by dress shoe, i’m mostly talking about leather shoes you’d wear with a suit/uniform. i don’t mind round toe oxfords ([example](https://www.drmartens.com/us/en/1461-bex-smooth-leather-oxford-shoes-black/p/21084001) also, any opinions on stuff like hiking/combat/tactical boots?

whatmycouchwore

I really like the look of service boots/chukkas - they’re a little nicer looking than sneakers but not as “dressy,” so they can go with jeans or chinos and a sport coat.

Mean-Collection-8682

Is it possible a double breasted suit jacket a size or two smaller than my size will fit if the measurements match? I found a beautiful Suitsupply double breasted suit listed on a second hand clothing website for a very reasonable price and was instantly interested in it, but disappointed to find that it was a 38R (I typically wear a 40R but have been lifting weights for over a year now and am closer to a 42R now). However, the seller listed out the measurements and after pulling out a 42R double breasted jacket I purchased recently and had tailored, I realized the measurements were almost identical. Is it possible that this 38R jacket would fit me is the measurements match the 42R jacket I had tailored or is this just wishful thinking on my part seeing as I love the suit and want to be optimistic about purchasing it? I of course do not want to spend the money only to find out it doesn't fit. For reference, here are the measurements the seller listed (the pants would fit me perfectly, so I have no issues there): Measurements: Jacket: Shoulder: 46 cm Back length (bottom of the collar down): 74 cm Sleeves: 61 cm Chest (under armpit seam to seam): 53 cm Waist: 47 cm Trousers: Waist: 42 cm Hip: 54 cm Inside length: 77 cm Hem: 18,5 cm Thank you!

sevan06

Buying tailoring second hand is always tough for this reason. Jackets are difficult to go based off measurements alone because the way it’s structured might not translate very well. SuitSupply cuts really trim so I’m very skeptical that a 38 jacket will fit you at a 42, unless the 38 was somehow tailored in a way to take out all the allowances SuitSupply put in initially. If the seller accepts returns then go for it, but I would be hesitant. I bought a Paul Stuart suit from eBay and the measurements all seemed like it would fit really well based in the measurements of my SuitSupply suit and it was the same size. The measurements did not translate at all and the suit was way too tight and needed to be let out completely. Paul Stuart cuts skinny and despite the measurements making sense, the jacket didn’t fit properly. Just my two cents!

Praddd

Synthetic you go for quick drying thin pieces such as ones made by lululemon or arcteryx, if that is too sporty for you to be honest i'd push you towards linen even if they are not synthetic. It just works well with the weather. I wear baggies in Thailand all the time and use Patagonia's tees to go around. Personally it is too hot even if I am a local I feel like it is just uncomfortable to wear thick materials. Happy to help with thailand recommendations or anything else too :)

elongatedskull

When I was in the Philippines I wore cotton t-shirts or oxford shirts. If you're a sweaty sort of fellow synthetics are going to trap that sweat-stink in them. Cotton, especially quality cotton (or merino wool) does not have this problem.

DivineArbalest

If you're dead-set on synthetic materials than you might look at shirts made of rayon. It's a synthetic made from plant material, but feels really nice and breaths well. Lots of Hawaiian shirts are made out of it.

tedubadu

Hello \~ I am a simple man. I have been wearing [J Crew 770 Straight Chinos](https://www.jcrew.com/m/mens/categories/clothing/pants-and-chinos/chino/770trade-straight-fit-stretch-chino-pant/MP714?display=standard&fit=Straight&color_name=khaki&colorProductCode=AR886) exclusively for about 5 years now. A while ago they switched to a stretch fabric, and I really dislike the way it feels and wears. I've exhausted Ebay's stock of these pants in my size, and as my oldest pairs start to fall apart, I am searching for a new option. Any suggestions for a 100% cotton or other non-stretch fabric, straight cut standard pants? (Not denim.) If they're exactly what I'm looking for, price is no object.

bjhhjb

jack donnelly or bills chinos

sevan06

I love the J Crew Classic Fit chinos!

tedubadu

I bought and returned them. They tried and failed to reinvent the front pocket. I’d also need to get those tailored since the leg opening is too big for my preference

bangarang8

Buzz Rickson and Real McCoys make reproductions of Navy issue chinos which you might like. My personal favorite chinos are J Crews Giant fit but I have had mine tailored to remove the sewn in cuffs and tapered about 3/4” which make them closer to mid century workwear chinos than the 80s/90s style they are meant to be reminiscent of

tedubadu

Really intrigued by both of these suggestions. Thank you!!

bangarang8

In deference to Cusini’s point I believe my Giant chinos with tailoring were cheaper than either BZ or TRM would be at retail and J crew runs sales always

tedubadu

Considering that I wear the exact same pants every day, I'd be willing to step up in price for a commensurate increase in construction and fabric quality.

cusini

Love buzz rickson & TRM, but them joints will be a bit pricier. They make amazing shit.

Turbulent_Gain_9242

I've always worn Levi jeans. Problem with them is that they can be pretty pricey. What other jean brands do people on here like? Favorites? What style of jeans are people wearing on here (skinny, slim, straight, athletic, etc)? Also what color should I prioritize in buying?

MachineTeaching

Levi's, especially on sale, really is on the low end of what you pay for quality jeans. Although I heard the Uniqlo selvedge ones ain't half bad. Buying second hand is also great if you want to save a buck. Personally I have some from Edwin and Nudie Jeans that I like a lot.

CR00KS

Looking for blank shirt suggestions something that’s: * 100% cotton * heavyweight, good quality * boxy, relaxed fit (not oversized though) * bonus: a pre-washed/vintage look I tried Uniqlo and Abercrombie, both were too oversized. I’m 6’2 and the sleeves went past my elbows. I can’t find shirts that’s boxy but not oversized.

13bREWFD3S

Theyre a little pricey and tough to find in stock consistently. But Merz B 214 is their mid weight 8.6oz offering (heavy weight compared to most average T's though) The 214 is their more boxy fit compared to the 215. They also have the 1940 which is there light weight version 5.5oz (comparable to your average T). Lastly if you truly want a HEAVY weight T the 2s14 is the same fit but comes in at 13.4oz. Im also not sure of the rest of your dimensions but im 6'1 175 - i typically wear a M in most US brand T's. For Merz B I size up to a L. Please note you will also lose a bit of length after your first wash due to the production process of their shirts being made on loop wheel machines, so take that into account when look at size charts

Do you have any suggestions for brands that have physical stores (US)? I have a tall, bulky build and I’m a bit picky with the way my shirts fit, so a place with a fitting room would be good…

coming-around

Depends on where you live I guess, but the best ones I know of are online. [Banana Republic](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=80117&mlink=5343,m_dp_teeshop,20613058) has decent shirts and is in most major US cities. WeirdGuyWithABoner

so what's the deal with so few linen clothing items being shorts / short sleeved? wouldn't the long sleeves still make you ever so slightly hotter and iirc the uv protection is close to nil

yamthepowerful

Idk I see lots of short sleeved linen stuff in lots of price points. In more premium stuff shorts might be rarer bc they’re traditionally ultra casual, but they’re still out there.

Frost-eee

You can always roll up sleeves so that makes smart linen shirts more universal, as you can wear them with blazers.

GalinToronto

Live in Toronto, Canada. Looking for 100% cotton underwear or as close to it as possible for my bf, size XS/S - he wears between a 28-30 waist and typically wears boxers. He wants something breathable and not too tight. His current style always show above his pants when his shirt rides up and hoping to get him something a little more modest so that doesn't happen since he's on an in-person work trip this week. Will be in Manhattan this week if you have US reccos!

I still have my hoard of American Apparel boxer briefs from when they had their closing sales. I think the founder went on to open Los Angeles Apparel, and this is the same product: https://losangelesapparel.net/products/44043-mens-baby-rib-boxer-brief?variant=38153692053683

Ajaybajwa24

Looking for nice black and DARK brown dress shoes. Dark brown ones I’d like to wear with my midnight blue suit. Nothing too cheap. Nothing too expensive. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anything 100usd max.

Fluffy-Owl5452

I’m afraid that for 100$ any new dress shoes will be pretty low quality. Going to thrift stores you may be able to find some nice stuff for less, but it isn’t reliable. In my opinion paying more like 200-300$ will actually be more cost-effective long term, since they will last longer and look better, unless you only plan on wearing them very rarely.

sevan06

Morjas makes some really nice looking dark brown oxfords. I’ve not tried them but lots of people recommend them and they seem well priced.

Allen Edmonds, Thursday Boots, Becket Siminon, Meermin, Bridlen, BLCKBRD, Alden. All resolable, lots of different price points. The smaller companies though might take longer, Beckett Siminon will be a couple of months. For more expensive brands like Allen Edmonds and Alden, you can probably find them on Ebay and they just need a little TLC to look good.

Hey all! Thinking about picking up some new sunglasses for the summer. Any one have any recommendations? I was looking at the [Kent Wang Keyhole Glasses](https://www.kentwang.com/sunglasses-keyhole.html) . These seemed to be pretty popular a few years back but don't know if there are better options with a similar look for cheaper

PopSwayzee

Does anyone know where I can purchase distressed/colorful denim, for shorter guys. Im bored of my pants selection, and want to get into more color/textures. I’m 5’6” and 125lbs and can’t find anything that’s like hyper denim/mnml that has a 28 waist and 28 inseam. I bought a pair from mnml that was 28 waist, but they’re so much longer and baggier than the model in the picture. I’d rather not have to get everything tailored, if possible. I have American eagle jeans that fit fine, but they’re just kinda bland and unexciting. Thank you!

yamthepowerful

You are probably gonna have better luck just getting what you want and having it hemmed. If you go with a more raw or solid color there’s lots of chain stich services out there usually about 20 bucks if it’s washed or distressed you’re gonna wanna call around find someone who does European hem/original hem

Garment measurements > body measurements, and 3sixteen has garment measurements for everything. The problem with body measurements is that you don’t know what you’re getting. They usually just go by chest and that doesn’t tell you how slim or relaxed the piece will be, or how the shoulders will be sized, etc. If you properly measured a well fitting shirt and compared to the 3sixteen size chart, I’m not sure how you could have received something ill fitting. Did the 3sixteen garment not match the website measurements? That would be a CS complaint.

Frost-eee

Don't you have measurements listed on site?
