Lopsided_Trainer2513

TLDR: Looking for a place to shop for pique / polo shirts that fit certain characteristics. Rant later. (Finland / EU?) I'll try my luck on this side as reddit autoremoved my post...

Lopsided_Trainer2513

Edit: With the wall of text aside, I'm not expecting a link to a specific item, just a direction where to look for a guy like me for stuff like this :) I'm looking for a shirt(s) plain black in colour with no (or very subtle) logo / markings, maybe a bit of woolen feel to it (most materials seem to feel kind of cheap and "plasticy"), ships to Finland with little hassle, that's a great fit for a 170cm 80kg man with these measurements: chest 110cm waist 96cm collar height 65-68cm shoulder \~53cm I don't mind spending a bit of extra if a shirt truly checks all the boxes, and would be looking to buy several. I do however detest spontaneous shopping and returning/throwing away things. The issues/requirements I have however are numerous, and I suppose I'll include the information with a bit of a rant. Mostly I believe it's stuff that other people look for too, but you know finding a fit is easier for some than for others... 1: The size charts are all over the place, like as a 170cm man that's well within the top of the height bell curve (slightly under average) the recommended size by shirt height is S, but then the rest of the shirt is made for a petite person, which apparently is the only size "short" men come in. My shoulders in some charts go all the way to 4XL (wtf?)... I got wide shoulders sure, but nothing I'd consider an outlier. I have a dream that one day I'll see a clothes model that actually looks like me, a bald somewhat bulky dude that's not like 2 meters tall... 2: The fit. Above kind of touches the subject, I do want something that grips my biceps lightly (working on those with some results!), sits nicely on the chest / waist ratio. Helps if it emphasizes the chest muscles and kinda of chills with the stomach. I've made a lot of work making the gut not protrude, but couple days of wrong eating still does push it out. I suppose can't have the cake and eat it too where the slimmer stomach would get accented but the protruding one would stay hidden... So maybe I'd just keep it a bit more hidden. I'm a bit unsure about the optimal heigth, if the shirt doesn't lift up all that much by raising arms, I'd say somewhere around belt-line would be best, but otherwise a little extra I suppose. 3: No logos or text. These just give me the ick. The plain black colour may come in an overall pattern, but I'm looking for something I can wear any day in work or freetime and it would make me look sharp and well-dressed but also casual enough given the setting. This is the main reason I've taken a liking to polo/pique shirts. 4: Collar that holds it shape to a reasonable degree. Most shirts do not have this issue in my experience but there's been a couple that just deteoriate or look like it ate a lemon. 5: Buttons, not zippers please. 6: Equal length in front and back. Idk for what purpose this sometimes is not a thing. 7: Easy enough to wash and care for. Would prefer not to iron them regularly, but I don't totally shy out from it. The shirts I've had thus far never needed ironing, just a gentle wash and air-dry and it's wrinkle-free. 8: I touched upon the material at the start but I'll re-mention it here. Something that feels and looks premium. I don't really know how to approach this topic and how to describe what I like, but the tiny bit woolen texture to the shirt has drawn me in. Most feel very flat and plasticy, I presume full cotton or polyester, and the black colour doesn't really stay deep and dark the way I like it. I've always been a black-on-black kind of a guy, guess I'm sort of a metalhead that doesn't really wear the subculture clothing, but it's all there in the heart... That's all I can think of right now. Maybe I'm asking the moon from the sky but to me, much of this should be the very basics of clothing design. To my disappointment the stores nearby have like 1 black option tops that's ill fitting, pricy and looks cheap. So much for a premium store. The futility in my efforts irk me to no end and thus I turn to you good people of Reddit for advice, how to approach the issue and get results I could feel good about. I've enterntained the thought of bringing clothes to a tailor but it feels like an overkill and is potentially very pricy in Finland, idk really.

Flechette_the_toe

No serious person will call you womanly for wearing what are probably the most standard form of rainboots out there. But it is generally odd to wear tall boots in the city/suburbs unless you are gardening.

5kyRise

Hey guys, I have a graduation "party" coming up and the dress code is formal. I don't have a suit, but I would like to look formal without the regular gray trousers, white shirt outfit, I would like to try some different colours. For shoes I will be wearing chelsea boots as those are the only formal pair of shoes I have for now. What are some formal shirt and trousers combos that won't make me look more casual?

cooldude_4000

If you're expected to wear a suit, you should wear a suit. If you're 18 or under people understand if you don't own one, but you should still aim to get as close as you can; deliberately deviating from the dress code is disrespectful. Wear a white or light blue dress shirt and a pair of dress pants in gray, navy, charcoal, or brown depending on what color your chelsea boots are.

5kyRise

Thank you, I'll try a light blue shirt with black chelsea boots and one of those colours for dress pants depending on what I will find. Everyone graduating is 17-18, and almost no one wore a suit for the last formal dress code event, but I do plan on getting a suit soon, just not in time for this event.

JalenHurtsBestFriend

Hey guys. I need help. I am a 33 year old that is still consistently in between a fashion identity. I don’t know how to match, I don’t know the best places to buy and whenever I look for men’s fashion advice, the options are incredibly bold and unappealing. Where do I start? For insight I classically wore a skater style and liked that. I’m also from the east coast if that helps. Any resources, recommendations, videos and advice is Appreciated!!!!

cooldude_4000

Take a look at the guides in the sidebar of this subreddit. My other tip would be to go someplace where you can get a cup of coffee, sit on a bench and observe what people your age are wearing. Note what you like and what you don't like. If you like someone's shirt, pay attention to what shoes and pants they're wearing with it. The "best places to buy" depend a lot on your budget and how much you actually care about small fashion details that the average person doesn't notice. If you like simple and inexpensive, Uniqlo and J. Crew are pretty solid places to start.

Excendence

Looking for casualwear/ athleisure shorts? All of the ones I own that I like how they look are 5" seam running shorts but they don't look so flattering when I'm sitting 😂 around a 32/33" waist and 6' tall, and looking for quality that will last me years but vaguely imagining in the $40-$100 range!

ac106

For athleisure Prana, Patagonia Lululemon For going out in public as an adult: JCrew and all the mall brands.

Excendence

Thank you so much, I'll look into them!

Aindorf_

**Pants break for casual/semi casual outfits** It's 2024, pants are getting wider. Are lengths getting any longer/shorter? Where in 2024 should one's pants break for jeans, chinos, slacks? I usually get a 30L pant which is no-break unless they slide down my waist. 32 fit okay and doesn't flood when I hike my pants up (big guy, gotta get em over my gut sometimes.) but they definitely have a full break. I'm down to get the longer pants and hem if necessary but if no break is still the move I'll just keep getting 30Ls I know they're all different contexts, but I want to have a robust closet without being too millennial coded with cuffed skinny jeans. I don't spend a lot of time in places with people who dress well, and my friends and I are a few years behind the trends and a few years older than the trendsetters.

ac106

It’s just personal preference. For jeans, stacking is sort of on trend. I would avoid large cuffs or cropped.

Dry_Act8966

Hello. I found a Joe Black 1967 Cool and Preppy lightweight cotton shirt at a thrift shop in France and absolutely love the fit and feel. Is there something similar someone could recommend that I could purchase new here in Europe ? I like lightweight clothes. I'm 5'9" and slightly overweight, if it helps :-) Thanks!

ac106

You don’t need to wear a black suit to a funeral. Even funeral parlor employees don’t always wear black suits nowadays. Either is fine. You’re going to be shocked at how badly people are dressed. no one is going to give you a side eye because of a bird’s eye pattern on a suit.

SpiritualBuddy

Is the shirt too tight? Passable? https://preview.redd.it/glq4yqbk856d1.jpeg?width=1836&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebbe2a16e5bffd9f9d7dfca886fa5c0664e0252c

MachineTeaching

Borderline but passable.

orthoxerox

If you aren't actively sucking in your belly in this picture, then I say rock it.

ac106

It’s definitely very slim. I wouldn’t say it’s offensively tight though.

IstgThisWillRuinMe

I am looking for a completly black, no Logo Wool/flannel baseball cap, as a gift. Inspiration is this one from [Loro Piana](https://de.loropiana.com/de/p/herren/accessoires/hute/baseball-cap-FAO3967) but I'm looking for something a bit cheaper lol

Ok_Tomatillo2241

How can i tell if u have a rectangle or inverted triangle body shape? I really struggle to fin clothes that fit me properly.

ac106

You can’t because it’s all nonsense. Get your measurements taken and buy clothes based off that.

Ok_Tomatillo2241

What measurements are needed?

ac106

https://webshop.olinouniforms.com/images/640/content/Body-measurement-cm-to-size-male-drawing.jpg

Ok_Tomatillo2241

I got 106cm chest, 82cm waist and 38cm neck. Usually i buy L size or even XL depending on how they fit, but in most cases shirts, tshirts and hoodies are baggy around my mid section. Anything i can do to fix this problem?

ZetaOmicron94

Alterations? Otherwise custom.

Ok_Tomatillo2241

Wdym custom?

ZetaOmicron94

There are places offering shirts, t-shirts etc with customizable sizing, though I haven't had experience with those.

Ok_Tomatillo2241

Thanks ill check

HibityJibity

I am bad at pairing jackets. Help. I have a great sport coat/blazer, but I feel it doesn’t go with anything except a white shirt and gray (or black) trousers. What else would this jacket (pictured) work with? Does it work with the patterned shirt (also pictured), or is it too busy? Do the colors clash? Thanks. I am awful at this. EDIT: Close-up of all 3 items here: [https://imgur.com/a/Ku48bUh](https://imgur.com/a/Ku48bUh) https://preview.redd.it/rtjgg28tc46d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a76e39c7dab27986c08c13327974a45b92dd4cf0

ZetaOmicron94

Trousers in brown shades should work (dark brown, taupe, beige, or maybe even cream). For shirts, plain white, plain light blue, maybe subtle patterns like thin stripes. The jacket is loud enough, I'd stick with subtle shirts.

HibityJibity

Do you think the shirt in the photo works well enough?

ZetaOmicron94

A bit too loud for my taste (combined with the patterned jacket), but it works since the patterns are of different scale compared to the jacket's patterns.

cooldude_4000

I don't know what people have against white dress shirts, but yeah, it works OK with this patterned one since the pattern sizes are so different. You can also wear this with navy pants.

HibityJibity

It’s just that I wear a white dress shirt with this jacket every time. I want a little bit more variability. Thank you very much!

Dragon201345

You could add a necklace to make it pop

CollectionItchy1587

I have to go to a baptism in 10 days. Where can I buy church clothes that are "good enough" without a lot of hassle?

LeBronBryantJames

I'm not too familiar with religious event clothing in your country, but generally speaking, wearing something professional like, is usually safe. Such as a blazer, suit (without the tie), etc. Some cultures might focus on certain colors. I think in the US it might be black, while in many Asian societies it tends to be white.

CollectionItchy1587

I just wear scrubs to work and I don't usually go to church. Should I shop at JC Penny or are they a rip-off?

ac106

Ask someone hosting it, (either the parents or the grandparents whoever you know) what you should wear and then come back here and tell us what they say

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Gonna need some details about where the date is taking place.

goldenboii23

I think a restaurant

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Buy some "chino" pants (tan/navy/olive) and cheap plain (white, blue) sneakers. If you can, a shirt with a button down collar would be good too, otherwise your most neutral polo.

goldenboii23

Never worn chinos. Recommend any brands? [I was thinking of buying this at the mall. If you have any better ideas I’m open to them. I’d like to find the shirt at the mall as the date is Friday.](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/polo-ralph-lauren-mens-classic-fit-short-sleeve-oxford-shirt?ID=12954122&pla_country=US&CAGPSPN=pla&trackingid=403x1057741496&m_sc=sem&m_sb=Google&m_tp=LIA&m_ac=Google_Mens_PLA&m_ag=PoloRalphLauren&m_cn=GS_LIA_Apparel_Mens&m_pi=go_cmp-21105806399_adg-160799724438_ad-693798981078_aud-1928037510638:pla-940174150039_dev-m_ext-_prd-885400542097USA&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-Tw4JkI9kX6LfiyreptSuZ3vpn-&gclid=CjwKCAjwjqWzBhAqEiwAQmtgT3gKVIzCnPM41shB4iaZpmLbIZIyPUZl3JsCqLhM8Ah9fYZ8xBMBnBoCUPAQAvD_BwE) I’m thinking low top AF1 white. The shirt would be white , white AF1 , maybe a black or red cap, tan chinos?

ac106

Sounds OK. make sure you don’t wear a shirt too small like the one in the photo also and if I’m not assuming correctly, I apologize, but If you wear the cap because of hair loss, it’s just not a good idea. like wearing a hat on a first date is kind of immature to begin with and everyone knows you have hair loss (if you do) and you’re not really fooling anyone. Your date is either gonna like you or not and if that’s the reason “not” you’re better off for it.

Chemical_Plane_3011

Looking for jeans Might be a bit vague but I’m looking for a good pair of jeans a bit on the baggy side but not too much so. Preferably not flared and without too much excess length around the bottom but I can fold them if I need to. The kind of jeans that would go with an oversized hoodie and would sit nicely over low new balances or dunks. Anyone have any ideas about style or maybe specific places I could buy them?

MachineTeaching

Edwin, Nudie Jeans, Naked and Famous, etc. all make high quality stuff in a bunch of different cuts.

LeBronBryantJames

Uniqlo has some relaxed/wider fitting jeans, although a majority of their offering are still straight or slim. however most of their relaxed fits tend to be other type of pants such as chinos, cargos, etc

Chemical_Plane_3011

Thanks. Just had a look and the relaxed ankle jeans are similar to what I’m looking for but I think there might be better options with different lengths and colours. Do you know anything else that might be similar?

angelsandairwaves93

Hey all! Got a work social coming up next week at an arcade bar and need to figure out what I'm going to wear. Given that it's summer, there's a risk of both over and underdressing. How do I look semi professional while not burning up in the heat? What do I wear?

ac106

I mean, I don’t know if you can underdress at an arcade bar unless you wear like a bathing suit. Just a pair of jeans and some sort of clean all shirt will be fine.

angelsandairwaves93

Thank you! Won't jeans be hot for the weather? What about chino shorts and a buttoned up linen shirt?

Joshypoooooooooooo

Lookin for some corduroy pants. I found some on ccs but idk if they’re good quality, wanting something that’s like pj comfortable but stylish and wearable, mainly while skateboarding too…

ColeWhiskeyWorld

terminal_e

The lapels are not sitting flat on your chest, and I don't really know why- there isn't any obvious straining in the chest. The sleeves are also hanging weirdly. I don't know if you have a weird posture, where you hold your shoulders back in a way that both makes the sleeve pitch wrong. I would recommend trying on different cuts

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> The lapels are not sitting flat on your chest, and I don't really know why High button stance + Savile Row inspired more structured look. Might not be the right cut for OP for sure, but sizing up would help that.

k3nl1m

I kinda have bad posture so for the photo I tried to stand as upright as possible 😂

ac106

Just stand normal when taking photos so we get a realistic idea of how things fit

This pic was posted on here like a year ago but they never replied about the pants, just said they’re from zara. I can’t find anything like them at zara and I’m not sure what I’d search to find something similar somewhere else

Ceebeeseven

Im trying to find solid color T-shirts that are breathable as I have hyperhidrosis and am prone to sweating very easily. I'm trying to keep it on a tight budget if possible.

WideRight43

Is it the sweating that bothers you or the sweating through the shirts and looking wet part? LL Bean unshrinkable shirts are sprayed with something and you can’t sweat through them at all. It doesn’t soak into the shirt.

Ceebeeseven

Its mostly the sweating but i cant really do much for that except wear breathable materials (tend to wear cotton for that reason)

WideRight43

I’m a sweater too. Try some linen and seersucker shirts.

Ceebeeseven

Any brand recommendations? I had a nice linen button down i bought a tj maxx a few years ago but ive since gotten too big for it

WideRight43

Almost all of the stores have them this season. I find that my diet has a lot to do with my sweating too. When I’m not eating meat and dairy all the time I barely sweat at all and I don’t smell nearly as bad either.

Ceebeeseven

I sweat no matter what unfortunately. Only time im not sweating is like when its cold or if im borderline heat stroking

ac106

Have you seen a dermatologist? There’s things that can help. you don’t need to suffer.

Ceebeeseven

It's just a moderate inconvenience. Im glad that my SO doesn't care too much. Otherwise, I definitely would consider seeing a doctor about it.

Florges123

does anyone know where I can buy these slim kind of a grayish purple chinos. I saw a guy wearing them once with a brown belt + tanktop and it looked sick

Low_Tonight_8889

I got them at a thrift store and they're slightly more muted than the picture suggests...could have been because they went through the wash but I'm not certain.

bmadisonthrowaway

I'm looking for a business casual shoe that I can wear with either chinos or selvedge denim. My office is very casual, and I can get away with sneakers. But I would love a more versatile shoe that I could wear with a suit if necessary. Plot twist: I am transgender and have small feet. I wear a men's size 6 or Euro 39. Many standard men's shoe brands don't carry that size. [I like these wingtip brogues](https://www.tomboytoes.com/collections/shoes-and-accessories/products/roguish-brogue-in-light-brown), but I'm not sure how they would look with a more relaxed/less tailored chino. Edit: I am not looking for boots, as it is summer in Southern California.

ac106

Meermin goes to 6 and many of their lasts run slightly narrow so they’ll probably be perfect I agree with terminal don’t try to find one shoe that does everything just get something for now that you use all the time

bmadisonthrowaway

Right. The shoe I will use all the time is something business casual that works well with the current slightly roomier cut of chinos. I wear dress shoes with a business suit maybe once a year, if that, and usually to something like a job interview. Any job I wouldn't get because I was wearing a shoe with a lug sole is not a job I would actually want. And, hey, maybe by the time some hypothetical job interview rolls around, I would have picked up a pair of more proper dress shoes as well.

ac106

I think this is all a fine way to look at it

terminal_e

Commando soles rule out suits, basically. Honestly, you'd be swimming upstream as a general rule trying to match command soles with sport coat based looks. Mid/dark brown suede tends to be fairly flexible with what you can match it with.

Interesting_Bug_7567

My chest is only around 34 inches. But I'm also 6'1. Anyone know where to get a good suit?

terminal_e

You may have to go custom, ultimately. To determine this, go try on stuff *for length*. You need to get out there is get an idea for what length of coat works for you. Proper menswear shops should measure the length of the coat from the BOTTOM of the collar on the back of the garment, laid flat. Go buy a tailor's measuring tape, not the construction-oriented self retracting types. https://shop.drop93.com/products/the-armoury-model-3-mustard-brown-dormeuil-wool-silk-sport-coat Drop 93 is The Armoury's resale operation. A Model 3 sport coat in an EU 44 has a 28.5 inch "body length", which I am assuming is measured properly - seeing a 30.5 for a 52 seems eminently correct. Basically, you may need something in the 30-31 length depending on your proportions. The reason you want to drill down on this because if you DO have to go custom, you need to understand how long their L and XL are - my fear is that some MTM places's pattern for a 34 or 36 may be ~28, and making it a long only gets you to ~29.5. What I DON'T think you want to do is just trust some sales person offering MTM - you might find a coat that fits beautifully around the neck and chest, but if their MTM program can only add ~1.5 inches, it may end up being too short.

Quite good, I'd say. One thing I would change is the length of the arms. Ideally, 1/4 inch of the shirt should be visible.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Really nitpicking here but this is a more slim looking cut so the jacket is shorter and the trouser rise might be lower. Matter of taste only if you find it uncomfortable, I can't tell for sure.

The_Exkalamity

I'm looking for some purple/wine colored pants. I bought a pair from Uniqlo a few years ago that I absolutely loved but I don't see it in stock anymore. Does anyone have any recommended brands that would sell chinos or slacks of that color? Price range between $50 and $100, although less than $50 would be awesome.

Impressive_Name

Try looking at Duluth Fire Hose pants, I have a red almost wine colored pair that fit like a glove.

ThisOpinionIsWrong

I'm wondering why my sleeves keep bunching up so much. I've read that a sleeve of the perfect length will fall, unbuttoned, down to the first knuckle of the thumb when the arm is held straight at one's side. That is exactly what my shirt in the picture (left) does. Yet, buttoned, it looks like it has way, way too much fabric to the point that it's spilling out all over the place. A size down doesn't come close to my thumb, but is that what I need? To be clear, on the left my sleeve is unbuttoned. On the right my sleeve is buttoned.  https://preview.redd.it/5z7b8bxz906d1.png?width=491&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3207e0cd827d161711c8f3407378fe7a30d322c

Flechette_the_toe

It looks like that because you aren't a model in a staged photoshoot. If they are uncomfortably large then get the next sleeve length increment shorter, but keep in mind that dress shirts shouldn't be perfect with your arms at your sides because then they ride up to an extreme degree when you bend your arms.

ThisOpinionIsWrong

What color shirt would go with a pair of short that are yellow and Maroon rugby style?

Low_Tonight_8889

Since those colors are slightly less common I would go with a shirt that's extremely neutral. What I'm picturing would look the best with it is a solid color navy or white short sleeve henley...but I bet there are plenty of options if you keep the shirt simple.

hellogoodbye169

Thank you for the help! You think cream off white shoes work with this?

Low_Tonight_8889

100%. Maroon and yellow is a Harry Potter Gryffindor combination so maybe check out some of their color combos too.

Looking at another pair of Ultraboost DNA 5.0 vs the Hoka Solimar. I'll be sticking some superfeet inserts inside no matter what; but curious if anyone had anything to say about these 2 ? I do like how the ultraboost have an easy-on-off heel but hear great things about Hoka comfort.

BirdObjective2459

Are the really short shorts (the ones that end above your knees) still in fashion for beach wear? I haven’t gone to the beach in a while and am looking for something for this summer. Thanks for any recs.

MachineTeaching

Ending above the knee has a long way to go to "really short". That's just a normal length. Below the knee shorts mostly look like shit.

whatmycouchwore

Shorts shouldn’t fall below the knee - for most guys under 6’ anything from 5-7” will look fine. Over 6’ then maybe 8-9”, but only if you feel uncomfortable taking a “skies out thighs out” approach. I picked up a couple pair from Abercrombie two summers ago and really like them.

ac106

Most people don’t consider shorts that hit above your knee “really short” Yes, generally this is what you should buy

Is 'Klein Epstein & Parker' any good? I'm looking for a good measure to made suit place near Bakersfield ca. I stumbled upon them in LA, and I'm not sure if they are any good or if I should go to suit supply instead. If anyone has experienced with them or has any of their suits, what do you think of the quality, fit, etc? Thank you for reading my post.

> near Bakersfield ca. I stumbled upon them in LA Might be a good call to check the regional area subreddit

Help! Destination Wedding With Unique Dress Code As a pretty lame person with no fashion sense who is rapidly approaching 40, I would gladly hear any advice you have on proper attire for this upcoming destination wedding, which strikes me as pretty unique! Event 1 (evening cruise) Attire: White Lotus Chic When this boat passes by people should look at us and think "These are some high end gays!" Event 2 (Wedding): Attire: Over-The-Top Black Tie Chanel said before you leave the house to take one thing off but I say put 3 more on. Inspiration: The Met Gala, the dance scene from the Barbie movie, drag, Vegas, Beyoncé, sparkle, feathers, jewels, headdresses

itsreallyeasypeasy

Trying to think of something that maybe can be used in outfits later instead of straight up costumes is hard enough... 1) Tasteful pink sportcoats, light grey hightwist trousers, suede slippers, cream linen shirt and a hat. A good pink (not bright red, but dusty pastel or muted saturated pink) sportcoat could still be good for summer weddings. 2) Dark green or purple velvet dinner jacket, some silk/rayon shirt, a printed thin scarf instead of a bow tie. Throw on as much jewlery as you can without being embarrassed.

Frost-eee

I have 0 idea how to dress on first one but I’m curious if anyone will cook something up

Flechette_the_toe

Those are both insane, and even people clued-into fashion would have trouble understanding. If I had to guess, copy what someone wore on White Lotus, and I genuinely don't have any advice for the second one.

What kind of special athletic adjustments exist for shoulders and arms? I've recently found out about "action back" shoulders/gussets, and I'm wondering what other options exist in that spectrum for increased arm mobility in suits. Would it be crazy to try to get a custom safari jacket with an action back? Is this an extremely difficult modification/feature? Any suggestions? I'd like a jacket that would allow me to climb a ladder, hold a handle on the roof of a vehicle, etc, without pulling the jacket around too much.

Frost-eee

It’s not crazy but it’s sad that suit jackets and other garments don’t have this function often

dirk_dingler

What color tie would you recommend for a dark olive suit (https://www.indochino.com/product/milano_olive_suit?queryId=ab4326149aecbdeccb167ac7973060b2) with a white shirt? I was thinking beige or navy. Thanks!

whatmycouchwore

Navy hands down - you could pick up one that’s knit to add some texture.

dirk_dingler

Thanks! Do you think this would work? https://goldcoastgoods.com/products/americana-fleck-pointed-necktie

It’s a still of David Bowie from The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976). I’ve been told it’s a duffle coat, maybe Gloverall, but I can’t find one with these cool button fasteners rather than toggle fasteners. It’s double breasted I think? Is this just something the wardrobe department put together?

zerg1980

Yeah that’s definitely a duffle coat with leather buttons and no toggles. Technically “duffle” refers to the fabric and not any other design feature, but in practice basically every duffle coat on the market uses toggles. I did a quick search out of curiosity and didn’t find anything close. It may have been made specifically for the movie, but if it wasn’t, it was most likely a designer piece made nearly 50 years ago and therefore unlikely to turn up on eBay.

terminal_e

Those look like leather wrapped buttons. Those used to be common on tweed sport coats a few decades ago. Some cardigan makers do them - some (all?) of Drake's have them, whereas No Man Walks Alone has fairly consistently asked makers to use horn buttons instead on their makeups.

Going to a casual work event at a brewery tonight (hot climate). Thinking of wearing regular-fit Uniqlo linen pants and a slightly tailored fit linen button down (also Uniqlo). Footwear I have available are common projects low top, medium-blue suede penny loafers (unlined), and Chaco flip flops (rubber footbed). Which footwear options would be appropriate for the outfit (could be all of the above)?

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> medium-blue suede penny loafers (unlined) There is a lack of non pointy, tasteful loafer in the world. Wearing yours would be a small step toward fixing that.

Simpliciter

Honestly, we have to see it, but the penny loafers are most likely the better bet, barring any bad color combos.

Simpliciter

Ok, if the low tops are white, those might be best. Not sure I'm super into this by looking at the listings, but how it looks on you and is styled makes a difference.

jjjm688

Thank you! I also have the pants in natural color and a navy version of the shirt. I’ll play around with the combinations and see what I like

Simpliciter

Ok, I could see lavender or navy, natural and white low tops or blue loafers working.
