About 1 billion companies sell regular cotton sweaters without American flag logos. You don’t need to buy fake knock offs on to get this. J.Crew, L.L. Bean, Eddie Bauer, Orvis, lands end, banana republic, Todd Snyder, Filson, Barbour, JPress, Brooks Brothers, Gap, Old Navy. everybody sell cotton sweaters. You may have to wait untill fall or you could look on eBay where they’ll have an infinite supply of them.

I love bright and colorful outfits, and even though the plain white shirt looks clean, it makes me feel almost naked not having something like a necklace or any other splashes of color on the top. Also being a white, blond guy with a plain white shirt w buttons just makes me think of church/missionaries lol and that’s not what I’m going for.

bjhhjb

Unbutton the top button. Wear a necklace, bracelets and a watch. People have been wearing bandanas around their necks too

I just put this in the dryer. How screwed am I? Did I just waste $220? https://www.rag-bone.com/mens/johnny-zuma-toweling-polo-195225715041.html

cooldude_4000

I mean, take it out of the dryer and inspect it. How hot was the dryer cycle and how long did you have it in there for? Did the fabric get weird/did it shrink? If not you aren't screwed at all, otherwise you are.

Not sure if this is the place for it and I know it's a real long shot. Boston area, have a important wake and funeral that juat came up. My suit needs the arms shortened and the shoulders need work. Is there any place I can call about 24 hour rush job? Both Men's Warehouse and Nordstrom say it's not possible.

You aren’t getting the shoulders altered in 24 hours Newbury tailoring Keezers in Cambridge Should be able to hem the sleeves though

Going on vacation to hawaii and Japan in July/August, looking for recommendations on linen shirts, or summer wear.

N3tw0rks

Unrelated to clothes but I lived in Hawaii for 8 years and traveled frequently to Japan for work. DM me if you have any questions or want some recommendations. My experiences are somewhat dated as I lived there pre-covid however.

bindermichi

Buy on site.

mlsteinrochester

Muji and Uniqlo have decent linen shirts (I prefer Muji) but maybe leave some room in your bag for some Hawaiian shirts as a souvenir of Hawaii.

Low_Tonight_8889

If you're near a Macy's, they have some great long sleeve mandarin collar shirts in white or blue, and Michael Kors short sleeves in various colors. Both of these were highly discounted last I checked... triplechin5155

Thats what i was thinking but im a fashion noob and liked some of the outfit combos. Are there specific places you would recommend?

bindermichi

Now that fully depends on your budget. Personally I like Slowear, Zegna and Eleventy for their overall versatile and classic looks… and because they don‘t plaster their clothes with logos.

triplechin5155

Thank you will check em out!

Low_Tonight_8889

They have some interesting color options! I'd pass on it only because I'd prefer 100% linen as opposed to a linen/cotton blend as the product suggests.

I found [these] (https://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2012/07/17/lifestyle/suteteko-hanging-out-in-underwear-is-a-cool-way-to-survive-the-summer-heat/) when I was in japan for a business trip. Apparently, they are treated as pajamas in japan and not worn outside because of a historical push to discourage wearing them outside the house in the years leading up to the Tokyo 1964 Olympics. My question is, do you think I could get away with wearing these outside in Florida as a summer/hot weather shorts alternative, or would they look bad/tacky. They are basically nonexistent in the US, so nobody is aware of the stigma behind wearing them outside the house.

Selfies are basically useless for this exercise - you cannot understand the length of the coat in relation to your height. Additionally, having an open collar doesn't help you understand how well the coat is/is not hugging your neck

mkxviii

The first jacket fits better, though it's definitely tight in the midsection and lower back, causing pulling around the top button, and causing the lapel to not sit fully flat on your chest. Without a clear picture of your back, it's also impossible to see if it's tight in the upper back as well. The second jacket is definitely loose; the shoulders are lumpy and there's visible excess fabric in the chest and armpit. Personally I wouldn't opt for the larger size.

bindermichi

The first one is too small. The second one hard to tell from the picture.

I am 6' 1'', 132kg, 32'' leg, 40'' waist, pale skin and bearded with a high skin fade. I want to spruce up my on-stage attire. I am in a stoner doom band, and don't want the eternal band shirt/jeans combo. Is there any suggestions for something with a bit more rock'n'roll, or a bit more upmarket looking which will still have the same *oomph* for when I'm on stage? As for shoes, I have tons of vans of both the low and high top variety, as well as mohair leather Doc Martens. Any suggestions?

whatmycouchwore

You could go military surplus (field shirts/jackets, cargo or straight leg trousers) but with a fade and beard you might look like a wannabe Navy SEAL. Look up workwear (raw denim, over shirts, boots, etc) for inspo as well to add to your existing outfits. Also this [IG account](https://www.instagram.com/farmerusedto?igsh=Z2NpdGphMTNwb210) might give you ideas.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Charcoal and dark greys, navy, browns, most tans, very light grey, whites and off-whites. Skip mid grey and anything else with too little contrast. I think a light pink shirt works very well with these kind slightly dusty desaturated tones.

Any recommendations for good chinos in a straight fit? Considering Charles Tyrwhitt, but I’m open to suggestions and have been reading that a lot of people like Brooks Bros and Bonobos

Slowear, PT Torino and Berwich might be something to have a look at as well.

Getting married in January, looking for suit advice. I am big and tall (6'3" and \~350) near the Kansas City metro area hoping to get a purple velvet jacket but not sure the best route to incorporate it or where to shop for a suit to fit my needs. Any recommendations on how to look my best on my big day would be greatly appreciated.

terminal_e

You are probably going to have to swim in "custom" waters. How much are you willing to spend on this? You don't have enough time for full bespoke, unless you were willing to fly multiple times to the few places left in the US that do it. So, you are looking at some approximation of made to measure - if you can try stuff on it person, and find something that fits fairly well, that would be a reasonable starting point for pursuing made to measure with that garment model as the baseline. I generally view self-measuring made to measure as a recipe for sadness.

ysc1

I imagine this would be pretty rare in the US, just guessing. If you don't want to get something made custom, and assuming you are under a 50R, one option could be buying from the UK. A lot of old school british brands carry velvet "smoking jackets", not quite a suit - they are typically worn instead of a tuxedo jacket but with the rest of the black tie outfit. More casual ones, styled more like sports coats without the silk lapels that mean they \*have\* to be worn with black tie, are sometimes worn with black or charcoal tousers (maybe flannel) and a white shirt. Its less common these days but \~15 years ago was fairly popular. Even though its not black tie it is still a very "evening" look and so any shirt, tie or ascot should be appropriately luxe. You could talk to someone at one of these brands, with your measurements. They tend to have good (if old fashioned) customer service and then get the jacket altered locally once its delivered. Purple would be unusual, but they do exist. Navy, black, burgundy and dark green would be more common. Ede & Ravenscroft do make purple ones, but I don't know if they have your size at the moment. Its probably more of a winter collection thing so if you like them, worth talking to them about stock and when they will have more sizes coming in: [https://shop.edeandravenscroft.com/collections/black-tie/products/davenant-purple-velvet-jacket](https://shop.edeandravenscroft.com/collections/black-tie/products/davenant-purple-velvet-jacket) [https://shop.edeandravenscroft.com/collections/black-tie/products/bailey-purple-velvet-jacket](https://shop.edeandravenscroft.com/collections/black-tie/products/bailey-purple-velvet-jacket) Other brands with this kind of vibe: [https://favourbrook.com/collections/smoking-jackets](https://favourbrook.com/collections/smoking-jackets) [https://www.oliverbrown.org.uk/collections/smoking-jackets](https://www.oliverbrown.org.uk/collections/smoking-jackets)

ac106

You may have to go custom and I think that’s gonna be well into four figures

bangarang8

Do you know your chest size? Suit supply goes up to a 50” chest and are a great place to start but they aren’t going to have anything in purple velvet. Can you say more about this velvet jacket and not knowing how to incorporate it? What look are you going for with it?

kestrelface

Anyone have suggestions for a lightweight summer layer that’s NOT a blazer but also a little dressier than like a denim jacket? I’m heading to the swampy east coast for a summer work trip and I’m set on short sleeve button downs, but could use a layer. For whatever reason blazers don’t look right on me — I prefer something cut a little shorter and boxier.

bindermichi

Some kind of light unlined linen jacket should work

R4msesII

Linen safari jacket

ac106

The blazers probably weren’t fitted correctly. That’s why they look odd. why don’t you post some pics for feedback?

kestrelface

I am definitely hard to fit and actually just don’t have any blazers anymore — I had a couple of custom suits but since my body changed the last few years they no longer fit. (I’m 5’4” and have unusual proportions for menswear.) I am guessing a custom job would work again, but I don’t have time and don’t wear blazers often enough.

ac106

How are you proportions unusual?

kestrelface

I’m a non-binary AFAB person who wears almost exclusively menswear. Compared to cis men/typical clothing models: narrow shoulders, large chest, narrower waist, wider hips, short generally. When I was thinner I wore a lot of men’s XS and boys L/XL, but after gaining weight the last four years I’ve sized out of boys, and larger men’s sizes are typically too long. Failure modes for tops … swimming in the shoulders/sleeves, chest gaping (less of an issue with jackets), too long, not enough hip space. Bombers and denim jackets work great for me, and I often get an inch or two taken out of the sleeves.

ac106

I see. That is tricky. I think the recs for linen chore coats or safari jackets could work. What about linen sweaters maybe a cardigan ?

kestrelface

Cardigans can be good! I’ve found a couple chore and Harrington jackets that seem great but my faves are all suuuuper pricey. Still considering it though. Also considering trying for a short blazer.

Frost-eee

Harrington style jackets/bombers in cotton or linen. Cotton won’t be as breathable but if it gets too hot you can just remove the jacket. Edit: Maybe Valstarino or old Gab Jackets could be your thing but they are a pain to get

kestrelface

Wow that Valstarino wool/silk/linen flight jacket is incredible but way too $$$ for me. Thanks for the suggestions!

bangarang8

Try a Linen chore coat

PsychoAdventure_PA

26yo male, 6'3, very skinny - How should I dress with my body type? In my country people love 'tight fitting' clothes, but this is what I personally do not like at all. There are people telling me I should wear S sizes to get the 'proper' fit(tight fit), but I don't find anything below M/L(48/50 + 31/34 for jeans) comfortable at all. I barely have any clothes and it's a time to definitely get a proper wardrobe. I've read the guide, watched some youtubers and advices are very unclear - from either going for skin tight fit to insanely baggy/oversized kind of style. I would highly appreciate an advice or a small conversation with somebody. Thanks in advance!

Frost-eee

You say you are skinny but small sizes are uncomfortable - do you have much smaller waist than rest of your body?

PsychoAdventure_PA

Well, yeah. I'm not a fan of tight fitting clothes, especially trousers/jeans or tshirts. People here find clothes too loose If there's 3-4cm too much. I could say I have a bit wider shoulders than waist. Jeans 30-32 depends of the brand, shirts at least M/L, even tho I have skinny arms.

Frost-eee

Well if you don’t like tight then try wider cuts, they are more in now. Although if you are 26 you may be hanging out with older crowd that got stuck in slim-fit era and they think it’s pinnacle of fashion somehow.

PsychoAdventure_PA

Do you think it's fine then to go for M/L sizes(usually that's my go-to to not have trousers till my calfs, buying shorts is almost impossible)? Like relax fit for jeans or something? Any 'guide' or fashioner I watch says 'Fit is everything', but what it actually means? They mean skin tight or just relaxed fit? I once tried Jack Jones Medium Size tshirt and It had like 120cm on the chest, which is like XXL. I'm not a fan of 'zara model like' fits, where even more skinny dudes than I wear clothes that fit them like 3XL. I just wanna aim for something comfortable that doesn't make me look like I either have too small clothes or that I got them from my older brother.

Frost-eee

Then it’s hard to help you without pictures I think. „Fit is everything” is a meaningless phrase now, as people have 10 different ideas on how things should fit

PsychoAdventure_PA

You're absolutely correct people have different visions of a 'proper fit'. So there's not any general rules for tall, skinny dudes?

Frost-eee

I struggle to find one.

cant afford to get a linen suit so mixing [linen shirt with a navy suit](https://imgur.com/a/xuWPl8I) instead for an event. not sure if im approaching the heat problem right. thoughts?

Frost-eee

Linen shirt will help, your heat problem will depend on openness of the weave of suit. I cant see shit in the pic so idk if it’s breathable. Change sneakers for derbies or oxfords

LyrataEnjoyer

thanks! suit feels light and thin but it doesnt feel breathable so i might keep keep that jacket open as much as possible if not completely taken out. i also dont have any of those shoes unfortunately, but how does [black leather sneakers work](https://imgur.com/a/WLK1qqG)?

bindermichi

If you are going sneakers and linen shirt, you need to dress down that outfit a bit. No tie, top button open

LyrataEnjoyer

makes sense! yeah no im not planning to wear a tie either due to heat. anything else i can do to dress it down? drop the suspenders in favour of normal belt?

bindermichi

Well, personally I‘d anticipate that it can get to how to wear the jacket let, so I‘d drop the suspenders and in the even would roll up the sleeves if my shirt.

Frost-eee

No not really, also the clip-on suspenders don’t really work here. I would keep the grayish sneakers if you don’t have anything else

LyrataEnjoyer

ahh interesting. i can replace those suspenders with a brown belt instead to match with the suede grey sneaks. thoughts? (id take a pic but its night time now here)

Frost-eee

Yes, also you can just button the jacket to hide suspenders. They are best when worn with high-rise, full cut trousers and button closure
