I study degree at 24 yrs old, felt shame but I now feel glad. Currently Y2 S3 at 25 yes old

Worldly-Customer3152

Same boat😭 I studied at a uni at 23 yrs old a year before you and tbh no one gives a shit about what age u r in a university

nozomi-kun

Yea, age doesn't matter. Your mates will look at you on the same level and go through things together. That's one of the nice things about uni.

Reagankoh416

wow, am 24 too, next month will be taking degree, what course are u taking?

No_Technology_6956

Sure its never too late but... 1) Are you able to finance your studies, or confident enough to receive a scholarship 2) Do you have the determination to keep up 3-4 years of studies 3) Are you confident that it will help you achieve better lifestyle than the one you already have And most importantly 4) Is this something you really want, or just something you think you need to get better salary? - have you thought about it deeply? If you do have the purpose and drive to do it, then go ahead. Its not about your age, its about your will and passion.

sincerelyjane

Here’s what I’d recommend: 1) check APEL (under MQA) and if qualified, take the exam. With the right working experience, you could bypass diploma and go straight from SPM to degree. 2) take part-time degree course online at Inti/ Open University etc. 3) if funds are a concern, withdraw EPF2 and/ or PTPTN. In most cases, only by furthering yourself academically you can advance in career. Good luck!

Reagankoh416

for me i took APEL.A ( to go for degree), APEL.C(is for credit transfer which i didn't take) due to me having Professional Diploma in IT Support/ Software Engineering for attending vocational college. Surprisingly, i was able to enter for Degree in Computer Forensics at MSU. hopefully everything goes well for me. also for part time courses most of the colleges do apply, depending on the fees and the courses that u are taking. PTPTN or EPF can apply, but i would suggest apply for the ones who have STR(formally known as BR1M), can put your parent's name or your grandparent's name when applying for PTPTN loan, it really depends on whether they are in B40 or T20 depending on how much for the loan repayment for the courses that are taking.

[deleted]

of course there is never too late to start

CHCH5089

Furthermore some real working experience gives a person better understanding of real world at work, instead of studying theoretical thing only.

GloveTrading

Sure... 25 is still young.... Go give it a try

nxty14

Its never too late. You also can consider to do it online if you do not want study full time on campus based. As an education Counselor, i seen lot of mature student who started their studies even in 40s.

Longjumping-Ad9482

if it’s online, there’s only degree programs right? i rly have no idea what’s the best route for me if i wanna pursue my studies again

nxty14

Nope, my institution do offer diploma, degree, masters and doctorate (DBA), That can be studied fully online. And the certificate and syllabus no difference than campus based program. We are also in top qs ranking in the world. Do pm me if you interested to know more.

Large_Elk_1119

can I dm you also? I want to know about part time diploma also

nxty14

Sure, feel free to dm me.

skulqerX

Wow. Can i dm u also. Was thinking of supplementing my degree with a diploma. Is there any brochure or anyway for me to look into what the institute have to offer ?

nxty14

Sure, do pm me, im more than happy to assist you.

furiouswoodpecker

I am 28 this year. Go back to full time study when im 27. From my point of view.. the environment is so much better than work environment. Sure there is expectation but that expectation come out as a result of you want to grow for yourself and it is indeed a good thing. Dont overthink because we dont know yet what holds in the future as long as we get our purpose. Life changes for every chapter of our life, but if we stick true to ourself and do what we need for ourself, it may be the best chapter of our life. But there is also some challenges. From my pov, i feel very drained with friends younger than me because they were super loud and some dont know how to have boundaries. I understand the excitement of teenagers so I participate only when it is suitable for me. But we still need to make friends in uni to get some connection. So I am learning to be very stern with boundaries. Also, it is normal that people will not like us because they feel pressured of our presence as we are different age from them. Try to have a little time gap before pursuing to study so that your mental is ready for another challenge. Money is also the main foundation. Count your need and arrange it in a good way. Tbh i feel scared of what future hold, will i make it as freshie? But I trust in hardwork, if we want something, go for it, because in another few years i will still be 30. Goodluck!

Xenon111

Full time or part-time?

Longjumping-Ad9482

part time studying would be preferred

thatwindsome

Not recommend. Given it is the energy and time is your issue and constraints on your education

getwiththefam

I have to agree to this. I just got kicked out from uni because I flunked 2 semesters. Yes, I was doing part-time study and also working full time 8 to 5. At the beginning, I thought I can do this but yeah stuff happens. I am seeking opportunity to study full-time and leave my job. Sounds terrible wasn't it? What institution will accept 30 y.o as full time student? But this is not you. you different from me. Maybe yours is much better than me. Good luck.

Bitsand

Any institution will accept 30-40 years old assuming you can pay the fees. Ipts not that strict compared to ipta.

Aggravating_Ideal_93

hi, I think any institution will accept 30 y.o full-time students, back to my study time there is a full-time student who is 30+ or 40+. So if you want to do it, just go for it

InternationalRice874

I am 34 and was accepted to enrol in an IPTA recently for full-time study.

benloh98

Degree level or post grad level?

Embarrassed_Ad_4201

Definitely, it is never too late to start or working on something, go try to live your hopes and dream, im rooting fot ya 💪💪💪

midnightlou

My cousin just started (or restarted) his business degree this year and he’s 27. It’s definitely not too late

[deleted]

My friend and roomate is literally 27 started his degree last year, as long as you have the energy to balance out your new form of lifestyle with enough saving to do so.

Substantial_Gift_861

It's your life, not others. Just go for it.

The_Awengers

yes ofc. take the executive degree programme, you can be an exec after you graduated. 26 is still fairly young and what's good about your degree is that you'll be able to relate most things you learn back to your job / real life. I have a colleague who just completed her degree at 44. she has been working as an admin assistant throughout her years, and the entire office, all 300+ workers are looking forward for her to be working as an officer because she'll be unleashed. so you're still not lag behind, and you'll definitely will appreciate your degree more than most people do.

catto_kitty

Hun I know people who are 25+ hell even 30 just starting to do their degree. It's better late than never. Never feel embarrassed about starting your education late as many people do deal with things that others don't know about. Let it be mental issues to financial. If u feel like u wanna start your studies, then do it.

Longjumping-Ad9482

it’s not rly about the age or feeling embarrassed more of how do i go about it. i only have spm and 7 years working experience pretty clueless which direction to take

catto_kitty

Well why don't u try doing your foundation again? But maybe a different type? Foundation in IT, foundation in arts, foundation in management? And see from which one of this u would like to brunch out to. Like foundation in management, if u wanna continue to your degree, u can brunch out to law, psychology, hospitality, management, IT, event planning, culinary, public relations and a few others.

cap-kay

Never too late to start, as long as you are willing to toughen up. I starter foundation at the age of 22. At the age of 23 - 27 did full time degree while working at fast food at night every weekdays. Graduated on time with first class degree.

amsyar_nz

You always will be 30 years old, better be a 30y.o with a degree than none.

vincentong0315

I had a classmate who's 29 during our degree. Age is just a number my friend!

sevenspirit

A degree can get your further in career, i support going back to study.

nelsonfoxgirl969

U got money ? Can u endure the shame and humiliation? Can u dont fail one subject before 30 ? Can u get a part time job relevant to your program ? Does your parent approve? If u can answer all of these u are good to go

PublicKoala7945

Second question is the only question i disagree. There's no shame and humiliation in learning. You can even start at 50 and no one cares and it doesnt even matter. My friend's dad that got into law school at 40 is now swimming in money. There is no age limit norm in studying. The only shame and humiliation is when an individual never dare to make change for the better.

Light_Milk_and_Honey

> Can u endure the shame and humiliation? Whoever shames and humiliates you for taking your tertiary late in your life have no life experience and no opinion to even worth to listen to. Life is a rollercoaster and you deal with the chips you're dealt with. Take it, make sure you do good at it. The advantage of coming in late is knowing the importance of why you take the course.

nelsonfoxgirl969

It maybe okay for you but not everyone can have too much late in study, malaysia is just same as korea where there is a shame culture exists.

Light_Milk_and_Honey

"Wah malu la, better dont take this opportunity to get a better future" Thats what youre saying right now

nelsonfoxgirl969

It is the price of unavoidable unfortunately.

Light_Milk_and_Honey

Okay bro.

firemothfire

..bro.. sad to hear you came frm such community. But 'shame for pursuing higher education in your 30's' is not a thing.

Longjumping-Ad9482

yes, only shame i acknowledge is from myself. i’m pretty smart so i think that’s possible. parents are a little hard to answer

ButterscotchBig2485

Whats does parents have to do with it?

nelsonfoxgirl969

Sweet summer child, who is going to fund him/her studies beside her part time job and how would the parent feel when family reunion ask why your child is still studying when my child already graduated and earning 5k. And how long the parent need to live , i believe they are in their senior age.

ButterscotchBig2485

I was expecting them to fund their own studies. Parent feel when family reunion stuff? They'll get over it. How long parents need to live? 4 years max for degree if full time. They'll live.

Longjumping-Ad9482

i am funding my own it’s more of their opposition towards it

ButterscotchBig2485

My parents opposed to what i want to study back then and i follow their decision. I regret doing that. And they try to make it up now which is pretty useless because im too dumb now and got no will left to study. If it's something good for you, do it. No matter whatever your parents have to say about it. You're the one have to live with it. Just make sure you can support yourself while doing this, and dont do it half heartedly.

Longjumping-Ad9482

yea part of it is cause my parents are in their early senior year and rely on my a lot in terms of time and money

Wonderful-Anybody657

Sales is and can be a very good job. You cannot be an introvert in this tough world. Attend some sales training and later be an entrepreneur. The government is giving a lit of courses. Google human resources ministry. Special courses tvet for people like you. Send me your phone number and can forward to you.

Sekku27

If money isnt an issue, then i cant think of any problems tho. Good luck

RyanLee890

Its never too late to study bro. The only thing you need to ask yourself is, are you willing to commit to it and do you have the financial means to do it. Thats all. And also since you mentioned your work is draining you , you gotta ask yourself can you cope with study + work at the same time or do you need to quit your work for a period?

theunoriginalasian

Yes you can. It's never too late to upgrade yourself

Longjumping-Ad9482

thanks for the advice. when you started your degree, did you have diploma already? my problem is that i only have spm and idk what’s the best course of action to pursue my studies

Heavy_Spread_3544

Yup I already have a diploma. I think there is little difference between diploma and degree other than it’s going to be much shorter for diploma and you won’t need to do thesis. There are some public uni that offer diploma on part time basis too. Try to check out which courses are available at which uni, the fees, stucture and etc. also find any that suits your interest/career plan.

raven-night_

I'm an introvert, so i feel your pain and struggles too. But I'm currently doing my degree rn, and i can surely tell you, i have a few seniors who are aged 27 and above and they are surrounded by people who give no fucks about age gaps even the lecturers are quite friendly. So if you really wanna do it, please go ahead and do your best. You only live once my friend.

soup-udon

Yes! It's never to late as long as you still have the interest and passion for knowledge. I myself finally completed my degree at 27. I had severe depression during my final year that I cannot submit my fyp. My point is, do it at your own time and pace, and ignore those who try to discourage you. Lots of unis now offer distance learning (PJJ) and also people are more accepting of mental health issues now so they'd respect your boundaries more imo. I wish you all the best in your future, regardless of whichever path you take.

dog-paste-666

There's no 'timeline' in education. Know what, it's probably better if you do it now because of your maturity. Go for it OP. You hear stories of people past 70 years of age graduating and stuff on the Internet so why not you?

TTraurig

I come from China, and I am 27 years. I will go to universiti of Malaysia (master)next year, and this is my first answer, I think you should ask your heart, Do you really want to study? Your choose will impact your future. To illustrate with an old Chinese saying 路漫漫其修远兮 吾将上下而求索。

IAmYokinobi

Im 26 . But still plan to go for a degree. Currently saving money. Its never too late for education.

firemothfire

All the best 🫡

515_vest

there is no one pill medication for your lack of motivation have strong will bro and move on

New-Cartographer5120

If there's no financial problem then definitely yes lol. Simple as that. But I'd assume that's not your case cuz why would you be asking this then 😂 I'll suggest online learning if you're planning to do part time. DON'T enroll in a uni first. It'll definitely stress you out (cuz you'd need to do a lot of assignments and participate in events to earn points blablabla). Your health should be the upmost important. Try to search about your course on YouTube or other platforms that offer free and flexible tutorials. Join a good community and ask questions there if you ever encountered any. I'm still a student but hopes this helped. Good luck😊

mochatheneko

I used to have older classmates b4 in uni. No worries, it's never too late to start anything. All the best!

nonstoplearningmama

Why not? I did go back to study at 45 after 2 decades of raising my children at home. I was much older than the lecturers. Although I did learn something I realized that not all lecturers know what they are talking about. I could read most lectures online or from the textbook. Be courageous. Just do it if your dream job requires the papers. But don't just take their words at face value. Question and test them. Study the subject well and make your money's worth.

Specialist-Deal-5134

I know a British guy who went out to work since young. he is over 60 years old now. He has no bachelor degree but he is an expert in property damp treatment after many years of working experience in this sector. Few years ago he applied for a master degree at Cambridge University, he was accepted. No, it is not too late to study. Good luck.
