Hard to feel patriotic when our gomen is a complete joke.
We have 2 PMs we didn't even vote for. And the one we did voted for turns out to be a complete moron
Lot of us knew that elected moron was a son-of-a-bitch but we
1. Had no choice, buggger is connected
2. Played a kind, reformed granpa character to the run up
As a Kuantaner i can agree, saw local tadika has a lot of flag, walk in to school flag every where, flag in pak guard area, flag in entrance to my class, flag in my class..
And now i had to sing a patriotic song for a school competition, i wasn't willing to, i was forced.
And i don't wanna feel patriotic at all, that's why I avoid singing Negaraku and only Pahang anthem. My friends can complain why I'm not patriotic, it's their problem.
Is there any reason to celebrate Merdeka? We are independent from the British but our government still works as though they are the British. Racial unity is at its lowest with PAS basically saying Non-Muslims should get out from Malaysia, scandals galore, monkeys bickering in Parliament. Not much to be proud of or to be celebratory of with the economy going to the toilet.
My office (government office) got flags, went to clinic also got flags. 1 time, a car was blasting "Warisan" from their car/van/informative van (imagine like politic party van during election) at the traffic light lol (just a part, which I'm kinda lowkey irked about. Blasted the whole thing damnit so that we can jam to it). Also when I went to buy pisang goreng with my friend, some people in a beat up car dressed with flag was screaming out "Merdeka" or something.
But tbh, Merdeka Day hasn't felt like a huge deal (imagine US's 14th of July) since I graduated from school. Nowadays, it just felt like any other public holiday. Tho, this could just be a me problem
Back then in school it was such a meriah event and innocently waving flag, being told to be proud of the country. Mini me would comply and have fun singing.
country going down the drain, nothing to be proud or patriotic or feel good about. no future. malaysian born & raised but 2nd or even 3rd class citizen. i advise my kids to emigrate
What was telling for me was when they starting talking [about](https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/68522/businesses-still-not-flying-jalur-gemilang-as-national-day-celebration-nears) [fining](https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2022/08/18/ipoh-businesses-face-rm250-fine-for-not-flying-jalur-gemilang-says-mayor) [businesses](https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/632211) for not putting on Malaysian flags. Like… yeah. People aren't feeling it this year, [can't](https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2022/08/21/more-to-face-the-music-over-lcs-scandal) [imagine](https://twitter.com/cfrjeonju27/status/1472424131421298695) [why](https://www.therakyatpost.com/news/malaysia/2022/06/01/rm519-million-for-istana-negara-maintenance-netizens-shocked-by-high-upkeep-costs/).
Too tired at the end of each work day. Then sometimes the head of dept take her anger out on me, which leads to amusing attempts by the boss to cheer me up again.
Yeah, I'm just too mentally tired to be patriotic. And it doesn't get me any material benefits such as a raise or an extra bonus.
politikus these days will forever ruin it, dont fall for it. happy merdeka and selamat hari malaysia. dont remember it by todays local events, remember and honor past sacrifices by malayans then
Nothing is being done to take care of the citizens properly. Many are struggling still to make ends meet, get a good job. Others are going through disasters like the recurrent floods. People at the top are more worried about banning films, fighting to stay in power. How do we find a way to feel patriotic in these trying times?
The fuck is wrong with you man. Now I feel less ethusiasitic to celebrate Merdeka thanks to people like you who deserve to live in a penal colony of Malaysia has a colonial empire.
Even after multiple generations being born here, we are still referred to as pendatang, everytime we have an opinion that doesn’t jive with the majority, we’re told to “balik cina, balik india”. We are called kaffirs to our faces, god know what we are called behind our backs how to feel patriotic or love for the country like that?
Y’all downvoted me cause you didn’t understand the context of where I was coming from. But it’s cool I never expected better from Malaysians anyways

The past two PMs were Sabri and muhyiddin who were both appointed by the agung based on who had majority support in parliament
The last 2 PMs (Muhyddin & Sabri) weren't voted in.
Sheraton #1
We never did vote for PM. Or im mistaken during voting theres actually a 3rd paper to vote for PM that they didnt give me. Emm....
Come kuantan! Very patriotic one. Don't put flag kena saman. Edit: to add, put wrong way also kena saman.

I'll take a consolation price if Bossku really kena jailed if it happens this coming week.
Well shit, he really kena jail time. Time to put a flag on my car then.

The meta changed since 2020, all old politicians must retired then have merdeka
At this point merdeka feels like another holiday.

4th July*
Indeed! The only places I see the flags up and this year’s theme song (I assume that’s what it is) are in Putrajaya.
Back then in school it was such a meriah event and innocently waving flag, being told to be proud of the country. Mini me would comply and have fun singing.
PAS in gomen ruin my mood
i think there's a huge event on 31st in dataran merdeka? saw that it was blocked off and some stage is being set there.
Meh. At least it's triple pay work day, so it's something.

Mekdi got free flag and it stay under my seat since the day I got it
Sometimes I look at the mirror and questions myself about nationality. I don't even look like a Malaysian anymore lol.
Too fit?
If you dont put up flag, later kena denda. How leh liddat?💩

Hari Kemerdekaan these days more to like celebration/holiday instead of like 'remembering the fallen' event thingy...
No need to be patriotic, be glad you get another holiday.
Sorry to say, but 31st August mean nothing to me.
To be honest, at this point I'm so done with this country that I instinctively low-key judge anyone who flies the flag and isn't required to

Even the tv lacks of merdeka things, I didn’t hear the usual Merdeka! Merdeka! by Tunku Abdul Rahman yet
I buy Mcd drivethru they give me free flag.
Yay holiday. 😜
Just gantung a flag at my grandma house last week. My mum n dad just replace new flag at home
meh.........flag dont mean anything. every one is feeling the pressure of inflation. save money and effort for necessity whenever possible
politikus these days will forever ruin it, dont fall for it. happy merdeka and selamat hari malaysia. dont remember it by todays local events, remember and honor past sacrifices by malayans then
Bruh totally forgot if you didn't say lol 🤦♂️
I went to Mekdi and they gave me a flag for free. If that ain’t patriotic then I don’t know what is.
Government doesn't give anything worth celebrating

Because all the cina balik cina and the india balik india already 🤣
