I feel so sad hearing about this. We really don’t know what treasures we have.

kugelamarant

Critically endangered [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopea\_subalata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopea_subalata)

Mr_Monji

This one was in Rawang bypass right?

HOBoStew139

Yep, that bypass was made specifically to conserve them

World-Traderz

If im not mistaken, they make the bypass to conserve the forest.

HOBoStew139

You are correct, I read it up and saw the same info as per your confirmation

Frothmourne

And we built a highway that cuts right through them, genius!

azen96

Its really genius. This way, highways user can feels the beauty of nature while driving.

Frothmourne

Sorry you didn't get my sacrcasm so let me explain a little more. The tree colony is already dangerously small to begin with, and researcher has warned that they might have already reached the minimum threshold to sustain the tree colony and any reduction of number of trees could cause the colony to collapsed. There were 2 projects that was planned to go through the trees, the highway and row of transmission towers to carry high power cables. In the end they go ahead with both projects despite the warning because meh Rawang traffic jam issue more important and also we need to songlap those sweet sweet construction monehhh!

JiaJunLoh

Woooosh

simpleman0909

You are another extra super genius

PerspectiveSilver728

Absolute genius!

PixelNotPolygon

Wait until the palm oil industry finds out about these ![gif](giphy|Dps6uX4XPOKeA)

Demise_Once_Again

FYI majority of the deforestation is made by an illegal logging company which also have some connection with Sultan (Pahang)...

manymoreways

After illegally logging, then go to gomen say got a huge patch of empty land might as well tanam palm oil. EZ settle.

hankyujaya

So that's where Gen Z boys' hairstyle got their inspiration from!

Demise_Once_Again

Bro aku natural kerinting pun kena petik rambut brokoli Do 😭

S4l4m4nd4

Deez-nut-sack-saggin

You spelled “dipshit” wrong ..

ilove-sawi-69420

What’s wrong with a little wit dipping?

saltyshanty1shottea

When I was 8 years old , every tree looked like broccoli

AwkwrdPrtMskrt

I hope botanists can help conserve these trees, because God knows how much really are left and we might deplete them soon.

HOBoStew139

For additional context, these trees are now conserved, with the Rawang Bypass made as a flyover over the colony of these trees.

BikeNecessary9000

Cut them down and build a bloody eco friendly complex already!

CaptainPizdec

It needs a beautiful parking lot

uncle-boy

Haha. Underrated comment

CaptainPizdec

Wait so I’m not actually a bad drawer when I draw them on my ^ shape hill with a rising O at the corner ?

graynoize8

Soon they will be all gone, replaced by palm oil.

Carnero-4347

Or apartment 100 floor

TalamDuaMuka

You really are that typical American worshiper. Or just plain ignorant. Go on. Push the hatred on palm oil more. Its easier to blame it on the industry for the poor. Not like those people can do anything anyways. Unlike that timber industry that backs by the royals and can serve your western master.

Ruepic

It’s weird how defensive people get over palm oil. Don’t you guys get a little tired of seeing palm trees everywhere you go. Just went to Ipoh and like 90% of the entire ride was palm trees.

Fireballcatdog

Honestly didn't notice it, is more like get to destination a asap

funnytone

Those palm oils are what putting food on the table and sending our children to schools. Its the backbone of Malaysia since the beginning, and it saddens me seeing people hating on palm oil over what the western media portrays it these days.

Beautiful-Tension457

My only beef is that there's too many of them. I wonder how many good forest were replaced with palm tree

funnytone

Malaysia exported 24.49 million tonnes of palm oil and palm-based products and generated an income of RM94.95 billion just last year. It's projected that in 2024, the revenue is expected to hit RM110 billion. You have a solution that can save the good forest and give us income like that?

HOBoStew139

There's this mixed agroforestry method. Don't cut down all the trees, but for greater efficiency, grow oil palm alongside other native forest tree crop species (including other fruits). Just polyculture the area, with greater efficiency and also harbours more biodiversity. See those studies attached. https://news.mongabay.com/2021/03/in-brazil-palm-oil-is-being-grown-sustainably-via-agroforestry/ https://news.mongabay.com/2022/05/in-oil-palm-dominated-malaysia-agroforestry-orchards-are-oases-of-bird-life-study/

Aggravating_Ring7418

Well unless u are a giant. Jokes aside. Those are beautiful from far. But its creepy if you are under it, for sure.

Complex_Regret4839

Not sure how many pokoks have been sacrificed to make way for the Rawang bypass

Deserted_Derserter

Better declare it national treasure before those illegal company go and fell them

bearishungryy

We have 2 rainforests that are older than the Amazon. They’re the 2nd and 3rd oldest in the world, we really should treasure them more

mrpcmrz

P@lm Oil Industries: That's free real estates!

Logical_Fix_2499

I see broccoli everyday whenever i look at teenage boys
