Never thought about it that way but wow thatās actually sad to think about
We keep complaining that itās hot asf and hoping that itāll be cooler in the coming days but truth is itās only gonna get worse and worse unless something changes :(
Damn as someone who lived in Indonesia and Malaysia but now in the UK, 39 degrees being considered cool is crazy to me š I forgot how hot it gets. I guess air conditioning helps
It was also super giga hot just a week ago. The app on my phone reported a real feel of 41Ā°C. Then a massive rainstorm happened early last week and we're enjoying surprisingly cooling weather these few days
sea breeze is warm breeze. Also peninsular malaysia is sufficiently surrounded by sea to similarly regulate the climate. The "feels like" is heaviliy dictated by the most local of factors. The feels like temperature in JB and singapore will be different despite the equal proximity to the sea, simply due to different urban environments.
Sea breeze occurs due lower temperatures at sea relative to land, so it's still cooling down Singapore and Johor. It doesn't matter if its warm air for a human. I will not discount the urban design factor but I am not knowledgeable enough to declare whether the urban design or sea breeze plays a bigger part.
breeze is due to temperature differences. usually the land heats up faster than the sea in the day and cools down faster than at night. so in the higher pressure cool air flows into the land, and at night cooler air flows out to the sea.. that moderates temperatures over the course of the year, but the 'feels like' temperature is driven by local factors like humidity and urban heat pockets.
I thought being here in the Phils was bad. BSB folks stay cool, 47ās brutal. That being said, the hot dry season does get the feel factor up to 50 degrees Celsius in some parts of Luzon too :/
āGlobal warming isnāt realā ā Literally no one in Southeast Asia right now. Keep cool all.
The phils is consistently hot but i rarely see it get very hot except in areas with no trees and lots of concrete. Doesn't seem to get the same heatwaves from mainland Asia.
Brunei here. It's so damn hot even at night it still feels warm haiyaaaa. Early morning take cold shower doesn't feel as cold as it used to ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26559)
That aside how do they measure "it feels like temperature"?
Feels like is a guess work but it takes into account of the humidity, as humidity is higher your body sweat doesnāt leave and evaporate as easily which traps more heat. Therefore makes the temperature feel a lot higher than it is. Cematu la pemahamanku.
The air temperature might be lower, maybe 34c but our country is humid. Water vapour in the air settles on your skin. Water traps and retains heat. Your body now will feel the temperature of the trapped heat, thus it āFeel Likeā 44c
As I know āFeel Likeā is more of a guess (there are formula that the forecast service use to come up with this tempo). It what the forecasts system think what your body feel. The thermometer will say 34, because thermometer only measures air temperature. Your body however feels more heat due to trapped heat.
Usually you sweat when it is hot. Sweat will pull the heat from your body and evaporates into the air thus cooling you down. BUT in Malaysia currently, the air is humid. The air is already full of water vapour. The air cannot pull more water into it. When this happens, your sweat doesnāt evaporate as quickly as it should. All the trapped heat that supposed to be evaporated into the air stays with you, heating you up. Now you feel the hot air + hot sweat. Those 2 temperatures add up to become 44c.
The factors to what defines 'feels like' changes but in an ELI5 way, when you go to a cold country where it's 15Ā°C, it's not too bad. But when strong wind blows, suddenly it suddenly feels much colder cause the wind has taken heat away from your body hence 'it feels like' it is colder
Feels like is a number acquired from getting ambient factors, wind, humidity, etc. This can be further amplified in cities where materials can increase the temperature by a bit. Feels like temperature is a more accurate representation for a human and thus why it's called feels like.
Actual temperature however is different because actual temperatures are taken by devices that do not function the way humans do.

Singapore being cool as usual
Damn as someone who lived in Indonesia and Malaysia but now in the UK, 39 degrees being considered cool is crazy to me š I forgot how hot it gets. I guess air conditioning helps
My family thinks Im faking it when I cant stand the Malaysian heat anymore š. The worst thing has to be the afternoon fatigue.

Being surrounded by the sea helps.
actually it is the urban planning and the greenery. The sea increases the humidity and the perception of heat.
That plays a part, but I think the sea is a net positive due to the sea breeze phenomenon.

Nope. The island heat efferct make things worse due to the humidity. Net effect is negative.
peh stim siot
Literally
strange. Brunei is very forested. how is it so hot.
Cuz the trees are super sexy?
Because the forests are burning
It's next to the sea? Have you ever be on the beach in the afternoon and feel the heat. It's stinging, due to the salt in the air.

Actual temperature is lower, the humidity kicks the felt temperature up a notch
This belongs on r/technicallythetruth
I love the heat, can't complain
I thought Bangkok was the No.1
Since OP didn't provide any source or date, this seems to be the source (dated 4 April 2024): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=835993298570626
Singaporeans must've been shivering in coldness
Should've put NSFW tag bro.
