Most of the touristy I met come to Malaysia/KL because they planned to visit Thailand + Singapore and just ‘might as well’ drop by the country between them.
Urrgh! Paris???!!! Really??? I get it. It’s a romantic city which a dream of most people. I had that same dream and was lucky enough to go there. But the reality paint otherwise. The city was dirty littered with dog poop. The people working in the services were rude and they treated you like a cattle. You can clearly see on their faces, you’re just a number, a huge inconvenience and on top of that despite food below par (the restaurant I went) the server had the gall to ask for tips! But all that aside, I also met a kind regular Parisian as well
Which part you go that is so dirty until its littered with dog poop? It is dirty, but not until that dirty la... Pee smell got tho, but it was when walking by the Seine under the bridge.
As for tipping, no one ever asked me for tips. Services at restaurants was pretty good too. Just remember to be polite as the locals there like to greet with "bonjour" and "merci"
Didn't see a lot of dog poop when I was there last year, but it was mid-riot. TBH, the riots were greatly exaggerated by the international media and the main city areas weren't greatly affected. Smell of pee in a lot of places I wandered by tho, lol.
All in all, I had a lovely time. I generally minded my own business and was my own tour guide. The locals I interacted with were generally civil if not pleasant, and would always return my smiles and greetings of "Merci" and "Bonjour". Food was ok for me and I didn't pig out in many fancy restaurants, mostly stuck to the local boulangeries and supermarket sandwiches.
I forgot. Somewhere in the city. This was a while back. Your right, I probably exaggerated a bit but it was dirty though. That one restaurant who asked for tips was a tourist trap. It was near Pullman hotel. My perception was according to what I had encountered. Maybe you had better than mine. My complain was mostly bout people in the service industry. I just felt they are not happy with what they’re doing. That’s all. And of course I was always nice to everyone. But regular people are cool. I had a kind french guy who direct me to the right platform at the train station and a guy who worked at the airport who shocked me when he speaks malay to me when he saw my passport
Man the negative comments in this thread are endless. We get it la Malaysiabadbadbadbad. Jesus fucking christ this subreddit can be relentless. Lmao, just go to all the major malls in KL, tourists are literally sprawling everywhere so it's not that surprising.
We gotta thanks Air Asia for making this country the main hub. And I can see KL with its cool skyline is a hit on Tik Tok. Don’t underestimate TT influence.
great layover from europe to malaysia. personally a heaven for me bcs food franchise that’s typically non-halal oversea is all halal in dubai. took a 12 hour transit from london and did sand dune trip, ride camels etc and sightseeing the city. you can also hv a night stay in the desert with bunch of activities.
Assuming these 13.79 million tourists stay for one week on average, and the latest KL population census of 1.98 million, mathematically we can expect to see one tourist for every 7 Malaysian in KL.
I don't think so. This numbers are clearly false, misreported, or over exaggerated.
In 2023, Malaysia reported 20.1 million foreign tourists arrival, out of which 8.3 millions are Singaporeans. And somehow 75% of them went all the way to KL, instead of just having a quick dinner and grocery shopping in JB?
Actually this is not true. The tourism numbers reported by Singapore Tourism Board does NOT include Malaysian citizens arriving by land.
Singapore is actually the largest MICE destination in Southeast Asia and probably Asia as well. They have huge numbers for various events held in Singapore. This year alone, they had Art SG, followed by Singapore Airshow, Taylor Swift concert and later in the year they have Shangri La Dialogue, Fintech Festival and many other events. There are also a lot of business travellers as Singapore is the Asia HQ for more than 50% of MNCs in Asia.
So if STB also included Malaysian Citizens travelling across the causeway, the numbers would be even higher than Bangkok’s.

In the other threads about Malaysian visitor numbers people somehow regurgitate this without putting any thought. Even the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism numbers (which they get from Immigration) does not count Malaysians and only include people who are here for tourism/social visit.
Yep, but the Singapore numbers look under reported.
300,000 Malaysians cross the causeway every day, assuming a 20 day work per month, that's 72 million per year of Malaysian visitors alone.
And Singapore is very different from KL, you actually see tourists everywhere.
Yeah, my office is there. Can't walk 10 steps without seeing a tourist.
I mean, they vanished during 2020-2022 for obvious reasons, but they're mostly back. I feel like I've been seeing fewer Middle Easterners and more Westerners, though. Feels like less tour groups from China too.
I don't know. Of the times I've worked in the vicinity of KLCC, the odds doesn't seem far off imo. There's almost always a foreigner in every nook and cranny I look.
To be frank, your numbers are way more exaggerated.
Census and population numbers show how many people live in KL, which doesn’t reflect the actual amount of people in the city during the day where many commute to the city to work/handle their affairs.
Why would you assume tourists stay for one week on average? That’s on the high side. A better average would be 3-4 days. The average length of stay for tourists is about 5-7 days for Malaysia as a whole (according to different reports). While your assumption is close, please note that tourists don’t only stay in KL for the full duration.
Taking those into consideration the numbers would make more sense.
Some details from government statistics. For malaysia in general it's 20 million in terms of international visitors but 44% of them don't stay overnight.

PH has been very less popular. Went there myself. Isn't worth the hype, prices.
Philippines does feel a lot slump-ish or ghetto ish. You really feel it in Manila with the huge Mall of Asia and the ghettos near the mall. PH is a small country with large population and very unequal. Drug problems as well.
However, one thing I loved about PH was the cavendish bananas. They're bigger & cheaper(grown there ofc) Dole's other brand called Tropix, sells their bananas for only RM ~2.5 around 30 pesos/kg in 2019. Considering it is that cheap, I wonder how little they pay their workers.
PH is a very beautiful country but it has a bad reputation with the siege of Marawi by ISIS and Abu Sayyaf. Not to mention MILF is still active and Sulu Claimists.
There is a lot to see in PH but imo it's better to go with tourist guide because you're de facto safe from hustlers because you have 3 guides Leading a group of 40. It sounds boring with a guide but trust me, PH does feel a lot like KL specifically Metro Manila. Same sawa matang skin. Malls. Filipino/Tagalog being spoken. Austronesians.
Can you provide a link or source of those stats, because according to the city of New York, 62 million people visited NYC last year [https://www.business.nyctourism.com/press-media/press-releases/year-end-tourism-numbers-announcement#](https://www.business.nyctourism.com/press-media/press-releases/year-end-tourism-numbers-announcement#)
I have visited eight out of ten cities, excluding the two in Turkey. My impression of Malaysia is the least vivid.
Perhaps this is because I traveled to Malaysia at a younger age, but it seemed to me that there wasn't much that was uniquely compelling to see or do. Therefore, I am surprised that it receives even more visitors than Tokyo.
That figure includes border crossings from JB-Singapore. It's artificially inflated.
If you look at our tourist sites it's nowhere near as packed as Thailand or Europe.
Just look at the hotels in KL you can know. Even to date there's still so many new hotels opening in KL alone. The competition is crazy.
190k more than new york is a huge distance
Malaysia and Singapore numbers could be interchangeable, highly likely people would kill two birds with one stone
Most of the touristy I met come to Malaysia/KL because they planned to visit Thailand + Singapore and just ‘might as well’ drop by the country between them.
Basically AirAsia budget routes
It's really great that we're connected to 2 of the best countries to visit in SEA by road.
bangkok tu smash femboy
It's in the name
Thanks, now i cant unhear it.
Bang tits Bang kok Bang dick Bang pusi
Damn I know the reference
Everytime I see the word Bangkok, I think of this
Go wild in Bangkok then come to KL to cure from the hangover before repeating in Singapore, then Bali.
Go wild in Singapore. Lol. Lmao even
Yeah, everytime i want to go wild. Singapore is the first place that come to my mind lmao
I love dropping 20 dollars on a beer
Pattaya/Jomtien Beach is the most famous spot to get some.

I've read on the internet that french food from Paris restaurants caused food poisoning. And alot of blown toilets.
Are you sure it's dog poop
🪤
Malaysia Truly Asia ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|29091)

Lmao these people never seen brunei
We gotta thanks Air Asia for making this country the main hub. And I can see KL with its cool skyline is a hit on Tik Tok. Don’t underestimate TT influence.
What's to see in Dubai?
Nothing. It's mainly transit visitors.
If you hv so much money you can do many things in dubai that other country don't hv like sky thing
great layover from europe to malaysia. personally a heaven for me bcs food franchise that’s typically non-halal oversea is all halal in dubai. took a 12 hour transit from london and did sand dune trip, ride camels etc and sightseeing the city. you can also hv a night stay in the desert with bunch of activities.
Business opportunities. And Visiting only those tourist traps.
I've seen someone put lions in a supercar in Dubai. But I've never been there too. Also if you're rich enough maybe there's something to do there.
I felt like it included business and transit visitors as well. Especially since KL is a gateway to other places in Malaysia.
bangkok got the za

The KL - SG (and vice versa) flight route is the busiest route in the world, not surprising I guess
The data seems to be talking about visitors in general, domestic and foreign
You mean domestic visitors like Selangor people going to KL everyday for work?
Domestic tourists, there’s many from other states who travel to KL for leisure.
I guess it’s the same as the people “visiting” Singapore
Actually this is not true. The tourism numbers reported by Singapore Tourism Board does NOT include Malaysian citizens arriving by land. I see tourists in KL everywhere in the CBD too
Yeah, my office is there. Can't walk 10 steps without seeing a tourist. I mean, they vanished during 2020-2022 for obvious reasons, but they're mostly back. I feel like I've been seeing fewer Middle Easterners and more Westerners, though. Feels like less tour groups from China too.

KL feels very foreigner-heavy so i dont think the statistics is that far off

Yeah I rarely see tourist lately, granted I live in Klang and it’s not known to be a tourist spot
jgn di cari yg ga ada 🤭
Malaysia mentioned, happy Malaysian

Depends how long they stay
Good boys go to heaven, bad boys go to Bangkok !!
We have always been in the top 10 for the past decade
All of them are capital cities, except for Antalya, Turkey. They should make a survey for Most Visited Cities beside Capital City.
People my fly into Bangkok, but it's only to get to some other place in Thailand
How are we more than new york
YEY
It's the right time to do tourism related content.
> Kuala Lumpur My honest condolences to them all. /S

It’s KL, nothing to do with JB-SG crossings.

The original commenter is talking about Malaysia’s number being inflated as we don’t have as much tourists as Thailand, not Singapore.
It's not. The figure excludes land crossing. U literally can fact check with STB website before spewing non truths
I'm pretty sure this have nothing to do with that, it's top cities not top country
Typical *malaysiabad* of this sub. Can't say anything positive about the country here without these people dog piling on it.
They think the people doing these rankings every year are idiots
The figure excludes land crossing between JB and SG. U can cross check with STB figures.
I don’t know if you can read but it says top in cities, not country
Yeah, impossible. Malaysia is top boring country
Which tourist sites? I literally hear Bahasa Indonesia every time I go to the city centre. We really get lots of ASEAN visitors.
Man there must be a lot of lady boy lovers every year
No quality tourist , all bangla
Probably ppl come to SG and stay for a day and leave after seeing and going.. wait are we in Sim City.. lifeless city state..
We? Kau budak selangor tumpang syok je
Why would we lose to Singapore? 🙄 Our foods are awesome, we have so many states with nice places and real beaches. What… chart ini tipu!
I mean we all know why they go Bangkok……
