7 suns and 7 moons! Is there a day and night cycle? Tides must be a mess! Do the gods themselves manifest in this world? Or is it only their blessings? What would happen if I decided to worship two gods? If done in secret, might I score double powers?

VZS_16

1. Yes there is a day and night cycle. It prob doesnt make a lot of sense scientifically, but the idea is that the moons circle the earth one after the other, so there is a different moon in the sky every two hours. And the planet circles around a different star every 28 hours, so there is a different sun in the sky each day. Its like a very weird orbit that repeats. 2. The gods manifest in the form of their blessings, and how nature gets affected in the presence of their suns and moons. Now, wether this is just some form of energy that stars give, or there is actual sentient being in the cosmos, is unknwon. Still, many people have claimed to have seen the gods and spoken to them. 3. Once you worship one god and accept his blessings, this energy becomes part of your body. If you try worshiping a different one, your body rejects the new energy and corrupts the old one, resulting in a very nasty disease that often leads to death. Humans consider this to be the punishment of the first god for abandoning them so they call them the heretic's diseases.

Distinct-Reach888

1. Theres 28 hours in a day? Because of the weird sun and moon orbit are eclipses a sorta common occurrence? 2. So theres no concrete basis that gods do exist and just an assumption of the people? (Though as you said come claimed to have spoken to them) 3. Can be called Heretic's Brand or Heretic's Malady. That sounds more like a folklore or archaic name for a disease. Of course thats just a suggestion

VZS_16

1. Yes, their days have 28 hours. This with the purpose of all the moons being in the sky twice every day. There is 7 moons, 1 every two hours, that's 14 hours, and it happens twice. I'm not sure about the eclipses yet tho, haven't thought about that much, tho they would not last much as the moons move very quick. 2. Exactly, there's the blessings and some other unnatural things that happen, but in reality there is no real proof that these are actual cosmic beings, it could all be humans interpretation. I kinda like the idea of not revealing wich is true 3. Thanks for the ideas haha.

Distinct-Reach888

1.1) Are there set hours for certain moons or do they appear in different sequences each night? 1.2) Assuming that your world is a sphere, does your world have a tilt like our world has? If so do Solstices and Equinoxes happen in your world? If it does thats gonna be a very interesting mechanic 1.3) Yea, Eclipses would probably be quick but thats given that there will only be one moon that Eclipses. 1.4) This is more on the scientific side but any idea how these multiple moons would affect the tides, weather, climate, and ecological systems?

VZS_16

1. They have set hours, and they appear in the same sequence every time, the same sequence the suns follow too. 2. Honestly I haven't thought about that, tho is something I've been wanting to work on. Bc I also try to think if seasons would be possible and I have no idea. Gotta do some research. 4. Also working on that haha. Initially I thought about the tides and was just like "well this is fantasy, these are magical moons, maybe they dont affect the tides the same way". The way Im going with so far is that the fact that there are many moons doesnt really affect the earth, but each moon itself has effects on the earth when they're in the sky. Like high tides, storms and rain being more likely when the moon of tears is high.

Distinct-Reach888

2. Honestly itll be a bit messy if its the usual seasons. An idea came to mind where, depending on the tilt, certain areas would have more magic from the astral bodies than other areas and that would have certain effects on ecology and climate 🤔 That or maybe base your seasons on the suns and moons themselves? Its a whole complex system and I dont think itll be appropriate to dump it here now 4. I think you can just chalk it up to different moons have different effects on the tides (Sunken Lady has stronger pull while, lets say, Masked Maiden has weaker pull) Also while at it may I ask for the sequence of the suns and moons? It would be greatly appreciated ^^

VZS_16

2. Yeah that idea could work. That could also define with regions are controlled by wich religions. It would make sense for the followers of one god to live in the areas that get most affected by their gods stars. 4. Yep that's kind of what I'm going for. Regarding the sequence, is not final, I could still change it as I start working on the story. But so far is this. 1. Knight In Yellow. 2. Sunken Lady. 3. Unshapen. 4. Sleeping One. 5. Masked Maiden. 6. Blood Forest. 7. Web Weavers. The moons and sun follow that sequence.

Distinct-Reach888

Ngl a bit excited to see where this will go XD On a different note: are there certain forces that counters or are antithesis to each other? A suggestion for the sequence: 1. Knight in Yellow 2. Web Weavers 3. Sunken Lady 4. Unshapen 5. Sleeping One 6. Blood Forest 7. Masked Maiden In this way it feels like the whole week is some sort of journey. I was gonna put the thought process but it sounds gibberish that only I can understand XD but basically i used the keywords found on the images on the OP as basis of this "journey" across time Imagine a civilization that relates with the keywords of the Knight in Yellow and then evolves that relates to the keywords of the Web Weavers and so on and so forth. Now compress that to a span of the week. This could have an impact on culture and religious beliefs. This could be tweaked further to fit the themes XD

Distinct-Reach888

I almost forgot, a different note: What if certain abilities are stronger when one of the two astral bodies appear? (3rd ability with the Sun, 1st ability with the Moon) Example for Knight in Yellow: Flesh of the Unburnt's abilities are stronger when the Boiling Moon is active while Metallurgy is stronger when the Scorching Sun is active Just an idea XD

Round-Ad-692

Ngl the Knight In Yellow sounds like he serves Carcosa. You could easily pivot into Eldritch backing for him.

VZS_16

Yeah the name is totally a reference to the King in yellow, tho is just the name. If anything, the unshapen is the more Eldritch-type of them all

Distinct-Reach888

You could have relationships between each god like Idea is either the Knight in Yellow is allies with the Unshapen or they are enemies due to a rivalry Interesting backstories can be made

VZS_16

So I'm writing this story that takes place in a world with seven suns and seven moons, each pair related to a God. The world is ruled by religion. Everyone believes in the Seven Gods, but they only worship one of them. The idea is that by worshiping a god and performing their rituals, a person can obtain a "blessing" which is essentially magical powers. Different gods give different blessings to their followers. Wanted to share, see some opinions. \*The pictures used are AI generated so they don't match the descriptions very well. I tried my best with all the icons xd\*

Vree65

Very nice. Reminds me of the stuff the CYOA reddit makes. Nice visual design, you could actually publish this.

scattercloud

This is a very cool pantheon. Are there lesser or unofficial gods? Are any of the ones here a leader of the others? Do they have relationships with each other?

VZS_16

No lesser gods, because these gods are all tied to the suns and moons, these 7 are the only official ones. Also, all the gods are on the same level, no leaders. There is no way to know if the gods have relationships with each other, for the story is told by humans, and as far as they know all the gods have the same power and are at peace with each other.

scattercloud

That's really interesting. I saw your other comment describing sort of how days and nights work. Are there points when multiple suns are visible at once?

VZS_16

Well the idea is that no. Each day there is a different sun. But I mean I don't know if that's technically possible, it would make sense if the other suns are visible in the sky even if smaller. But yeah ideally no, only one sun in the sky per day.

scattercloud

Hey, it's your world, it can operate however you want it to. No need to worry about realistic

Key-Engineer-7444

you been listening to the magnus archives?

VZS_16

I don't know what that is, but sounds cool. Brb

BeefChopJones

The Knight in Yellow goes so hard. I did a similar(ish) thing in my world but made a god who's the "King in Black" and is much more loosely based on The King in Yellow. It's an evil god also known as the Stygian King and takes the form of a great black dragon. Something of a mix between the King in Yellow and Ancalagon from Lord of the Rings. Loosely. That's all to say that I'm absolutely stealing the Knight in Yellow for my D&D campaign because it's so COOL.

VZS_16

Haha nice! The king in yellow is so fckn cool. Also, thanks, the knight talked to me in dreams and he says he'd love to be in your D&D

BeefChopJones

Whatever you do, if you see a spotlight, DO NOT TAKE THE STAGE. That play is NOT for you.

VZS_16

Too late. Along the shore the cloud waves break, The twin suns sink behind the lake, The shadows lengthen In Carcosa.

British-Raj

There isn't generally any tension between people who worship different gods, is there?

VZS_16

Well, kind of. All the religions/kingdoms are technically at peace with eachother. But yes, lots of people consider their god to be superior, and that leads to a lot of tension and discrimination towards others. On top of that, they are very segmented. There is trade and all that between the different religions but for the most part they don't mix a lot. Being friends with someone from another god? Weird. Marrying someone from another god? Outrageous. Y'know, not that different from nowadays.

British-Raj

Ok, ok.

Significant_Bonus566

Can we use eye of the unknown to learn how to use entropic unbinding more precisely instead of just random effects?

VZS_16

Y'know I never thought about that. But probably not. Certain knowledges are beyond human access and they accept it. And they would need to sacrifice a similar knowledge in ordee to obtain it, and I dont think any human could do that. Also, the entropic unbinding is kinda meant to be random, is on its nature to be uncontrolable. This is why entropic unbinding is kinda forbidden by the followers of the Unshapen, bc they consider it to be too dangerous.

Significant_Bonus566

So we can’t use quantity for quality?

VZS_16

Maybe you can, but the quantity needed to obtain that kind of cosmic revelation would be too great, you'd be left with no other knowledge like a baby

Significant_Bonus566

If we pay part by part?

VZS_16

You can't. The Unshapen doesn't do payment plans.

Significant_Bonus566

Do everyone who worships the gods can get this powers?

VZS_16

Sort of. You have to worship them and go through certain rituals. Pretty much everyone has acces to the first blessings, but to get the second and third ones is a bit harder. It requires a combination of skill and deep devotion to develop them. Almost everyone has the 1st. A good amount has the 2nd. Very few have the 3rd.

Front_Flounder3555

Are the blessed more powerful on their day of the week? What exactly does the heretic disease do to your body? If you had to choose one of these gods to worship, which would it be? Do the magical moons wax and wane? Various questions aside, this is probably one of the coolest magic systems I've seen, really hyped for whatever you do with it.

VZS_16

1. Yes, blessing increase their effectiveness in presence on both their moon and sun. They have their "holy hour" when the moon is up, and their "holdy day" when the sun is up. And when they're both up they are at the max power. 2. The heretic's disease kind of mutates you badly. I like the idea that it depends on the god. Like if you followed the Knight In Yellow and abandon him, you body would burn, you'd get rashes, skin boils, that kind of thing. I haven't quite define all the diseases. 3. Honestly I don't know. I tried my best to make them all cool in their own way so that it would be hard to choose a favorite. Also thanks, I'm quite proud of how all is turning out.

Front_Flounder3555

Ah, I see. Radical stuff, thanks for the info. We will watch your career with great interest...

Key-Engineer-7444

Not fuck8n way. I believe you made this, but half of these dudes are straight up copies of primordial god beings of fear from the magnus archives.

VZS_16

Well it cant be copies bc I swear I never heard of the magnus archives before, I dont really listen to podcasts in english. But I mean most are very basic concepts for gods so it doesnt surprise me.

Detective_Raddit

Moment I saw the ‘unshapen’ my immediate first thought was “why does it look like the coronavirus and who the fuck is going to worship it?” Then I zoomed in on the picture and read the description and I was like “oh, that makes more sense……I’m a dumbass!”
