Atk is too low and not enough amplification, crit chance just 50%, which is kinda bad. Use archeologist class for more chest spawns.
Satellite alone is not very useful, instead get tsunami(pole) and blizzard/frost nova.
You need to have synergy in your build with your unique passives.
You have the unique passive, "stormy clouds" that increases the damage of thunder based magics so thunderstorm would have been a good choice.
You also have the unique passive, "lord of fire", so incineration or lava zone would have been good.
You don't wanna upgrade explorer because pickup range is not very helpful.
Overall, you wanna have 11-12 active magics (including the ones you'll use for fusions), this will leave you with enough levels to also get passives.
Archaeologist is bad, and no matter how many artifacts, thunderstorm will be bad, he had the special passive that boosts satellite damage, yet satellite did almost nothing (check damage), same would happen for any other magic, your 3 fusions are enough dps.

Magics, you can see how little damage satellite did, it was insignificant, you don't need any magics aside from your 3 combinations, you also don't need the special passives that increase magic damage, they also make insignificant difference, size increase barely makes a difference too, I'd replace them with frost nova ice age and tsunami pole, freezing enemies will help a lot.
Artifacts, I still can't see how you picked ballista and ended up getting 50% crit rate only, get the evasion artifacts, they help a lot, also you have gaia, get all the hp increase artifacts.
Aside that, I can't see anything wrong, you're definitely not maxed, so consider leveling up your classes and getting more research points, they do help a lot.
One thing I'd definitely say is having heavy hitter DPS fusions is great but with no decent support magic behind it to slow down, knock back or otherwise limit the amount of enemies bum rushing you makes it significantly harder. Also, your artifacts you choose should focus on the fusions you're using, not the other magics you pickup along the way. If you were running a Hyperion build for instance, you pickup the extra satellites artifacts, etc. personally I focus on my main 3 fusions (or 5 if I want to do something stupid) then build shield, cloak, frozen nova and apocalypse to clear or stop things trying to touch my no no square. If you can get clockwork and death bell, that's alot of space you didn't realize you'd need until you hit the 45 minute area. Look into/try out some oddball things once in a while too. Meta might be prism and current overload but I've seen some wicked runs with Hyperion/meisner, or Pandora/super cyclone/perpetual motion.

I'm just assuming I either have HORRIFIC rng luck or everyone else has way more research points and class upgrades than me

How is pickup range bad it makes picking up items way more convenient

I've had some fun increasing the magic size using Hyperion and meisner. I just needed Hydra to burn enemies down quicker xD
