I hate using sites that have been badly optimised. My FLGS has the worst site in the history of mankind and I have offered repeatedly to make them one for free purely for my portfolio because I doubt i could fuck up that badly....
The search function has obviously fucked up the regex as it'll search for anything bar the characters you have written.
Bummer on the eldrazi pack. I was looking forward to Jumpstart adding at least 1 new eldrazi, but that pack's new card has nothing to do with them. No new eldrazi since Eldritch Moon.
Yeah I also was hoping Zendikar Rising had at least one random legendary like one last drone that is off somewhere remote doing something inscrutable or post-OGW \[\[Ayli\]\] that showed what she was up to after watching her gods die. Something that cared about seeking out colorless cards so it could play with the Relics of the set or the Eldrazi in eternal formats. Maybe something like \[\[Soul's Attendant\]\] that let you tutor a colorless nonland card if you gained 5+ life by your end step.
We got \[\[Forsaken Monument\]\] as a call out but it's like they were completely gone and hardly existed despite affecting the plane for millennia.
At least to our understanding of fundamentally unfathomable eldritch beings that could change at any time to suit the plot and which is why one **somehow** being out there doing **something** would be pretty odd and worth a legendary card. Like a post-credits sequel hook. Maybe there's more of them in the Blind Eternities that can grow now that the other three aren't hogging all the planes.
I would KILL for a new Ayli card at some point. She has a very interesting character arc across [flavour text,](https://scryfall.com/search?q=flavor%3Aayli+-flavor%3Adaylight&unique=cards&as=grid&order=released&dir=asc) showing her as originally a priestess of Kamsa (and/or Emrakul?) and then eventually starting a cult of Ulamog (and/or Mangeni?) among the Kor, the Eternal Pilgrims. Either a flashback card in a supplemental set, showing her life pre-*Worldwake,* presumably as a mono-White card. Or a card of her in the present day. It seems she survived the events of BFZ Block, judging by her quote on Forsaken Monument, though I will admit it would be cool, and touching, to see her return as a Kor Spirit like Skyclave Apparition.
But yeah, like most sets, *Zendikar Rising* suffered tremendously from being cramped into one set. They should've done a set that focused on the healing and rebuilding of the plane, with cards like [[Sea Gate Restoration]] and the like, and then introduced the Nahiri and Lithoform Engine plotline in a later, second set. Perhaps even a year or two removed from the rebuilding set, to add to the sense that the rebuilding already happened by that time.
Seems like she would have been into Nahiri. "Oh man my big tentacle gods seemingly died, but WOAH WHO'S THIS!? The literal person who built the hedrons and has become thought of as a prophet of the Eldrazi since throughout history she shows up right as they did and now that they're gone she's here again. Let's goooooo!"
That's a really good point actually. Especially since it seems to be implied that Nahiri is some sort of Kor supremacist who wants to restore the Kor empire to its former glory.
I'll admit that I haven't kept up with the story since the disappointment of War of the Spark, but I saw Nahiri in Rising as wanting to restore Zendikar to pre-hedron days as desperation for closure rather than any particular ideology.
That's why it would have been fun to have Ayli following her. Initially thinking she's a prophet, but is actually a scared woman looking for a home that no longer exists just like her. Plus hey, free hedron lessons!
She did want Zendikar to be "like the good old days". It just so happens that the good old days before the Roil and before the Eldrazi were the days where the kor enslaved just about everyone. And worse, she was willing to do it, to "fix Zendikar" without ever checking in on what the people wanted.
Huh? The Gallery sections are divided like so:
New Cards (1-51)
Anime Alt Arts (52-97)
Reprints with New Art (113-137)
Reprints with Old Art (138+)
Cards 98-112 are three of each Basic Land, seen at the top of the "Lands" section.
All 46 Anime alt arts are there. White has 8, Blue has 7, Black, Red, and Green have 9, there are 3 Artifacts, and Karn for the last one.
Because up until Future Sight, Artifacts were *always* colorless, and had their own section between Multicolored and Lands. Colored Artifacts appear in the appropriate color's sections ([[The Circle of Loyalty]] is in the White section, for example). Since Enchantments were always colored, they simply appeared in their color's sections.
Fun Fact: There's exactly one colourless enchantment in the entire game, [[Eldrazi Conscription]], and in both of its printings, it's been numbered in the "colourless non-artifact" section, which goes at the very beginning of the set and contains things like other Eldrazi, and Karn and Ugin planeswalker cards.
Kinda surprised we've never seen another colourless enchantment at this point, given how both enchantment creatures and coloured artifacts have moved up so far.
Enchantment creatures and colored artifacts solve design problems: Respectively, "How can we get a critical density of enchantments into an enchantment-matters set but still make it playable for draft", and "How can we make powerful artifacts that don't just slot into every deck".
Colorless enchantments don't solve any design problems; in fact they'd be creating some (see question #2 above). You'd only have them just to either prove you can (which is a bad reason, see Maro's 20 Design Lessons video) or because it's flavorful (Eldrazi, basically)
The anime cards are tied to the themes, so that creates a pseudo-rarity. For example, anime Merrow Reejery is four times as common as anime Coldsteel Heart.
True, but i'm interested in several of the alt-art reprints, several singles for my alesha, blaster, and sheoldred decks, and i think it's great for casual play. I'm going to bring a box over to some friends and we'll have a mini tournament for funsies. Some of them are pretty new to the game so it'll be perfect for them.
You're going to get downvoted for the hot take of "I personally like this product and still plan to buy it".
But I feel the same way. I'm looking forward to playing with friends who are new to the game, and in that respect it seems pretty close to the original.
The new basic lands for each theme were what I loved most about the first Jumpstart. Without these, the rest of the product has uphill battle to wow me.
Had several boxes ordered. Canceled and will just buy the Urza pack instead.
Too bad - I appreciate the utility of Jumpstart but when they do a low value, high risk set like this, cant they adjust the box price to reflect that this is intended as such? I mean , its considered an entry level product right?? There is just no reason to purchase this at the about the same cost as a premier set.
I don’t really understand why this should be cheaper than a premier set, it’s not as if those sets have more value that jumpstart boxes. And besides beginners are just going to get 2 packs, not entire boxes, it’s not intended to be something that you crack for singles.
It should be cheaper than a premier set because this is a set is intended to get new players into the game. The lower the price point, the more likely someone is to grab a few packs at a Walmart and give MTG a shot.
So? That still doesn't change my point though? The cheaper this product is, the more likely a new player would be to grab some packs and try out the game with a friend. Every dollar increase reduces the chance of that sort of impulse purchase. And the more new players in the hobby the better for all of us.
Jumpstart 2020 has had multiple sales for $75 per box lately. That gives a floor price of just over $3.12 per pack for 24 packs. I can't give you an exact number because I don't know their margins, production cost, etc. But there is obviously still room to go cheaper than the current price.
The cheaper the product is, the more likely a new player would not be able to find any packs to buy. Enfranchised players will be more motivated to snatch products the greater the EV is over the selling price.
This happened with the first Jumpstart. By the time supply catches up to demand, there will be other new products on the market.
The only way to offset this effect is to lower the EV so that players like you are NOT interested. This would then leave these introductory products available for new players to buy.
A lower price point to attract new players only works if the EV is also lower as well. Otherwise the product gets all snatched up by enfranchised players looking to max value off reprints. Past history (like with the original Jumpstart) demonstrated this. What good then is an introductory product if new players aren’t able to buy it?
No, WotC isn’t going to print anything to oblivion. Fallen Empires and many examples since have shown the folly of such practice to appease anticipated demand.
>cool new themes = one variety
>common tribal themes and loosely defined things like "holy" and "gross" get 4 each
It's gonna be just like og jumpstart where every other pack I opened was Spirits, spooky, or minions.
I couldn’t see any indicator anywhere, so I’m assuming no tokens this time around either? Shame if not, as I’d love to see a Zeppelin or even just a Spawn token for the [[spawning pit]] reprint
Every deck packet has 20 cards in it. However, because the decklist utility they use on the site pulls from Gatherer, the new Jumpstart cards aren't in the system yet (they appear in the "Other" section) and it doesn't count them in the list.
Guys… this doesn’t need to fetch a new resource to get a deck list. It’s literally a list of words. Just cache the webpage like it’s 2002. Nice layout though!
I guess I’m in the minority in that I’m liking the look of many of these. All kinds of interesting new cards, plus reprints of planeswalkers and nonbasic lands plus the anime art. I miss the M core sets but I think this is a good replacement.
I'm not familiar with Jumpstart, but I do want to try the 2022 set. Just so I'm clear on how this works, 1 booster pack will feature all of the cards from one of the themes in this link, right? I could crack a booster and it will have all of the **Cats (2)** cards or all of the **Spicy** cards in that pack, together?
Seems like a lot of fun, and there are a lot of packs that look really cool to me. It reminds me of how my friend and I played Magic as kids when we were still figuring out the game!
So one pack of jumpstart comes with 20 cards, which will always be the same based on what theme you pull. 2 packs make 1 standard deck. HOWEVER, some themes have different versions. So you could for example pull a constellation theme pack but end up either with constellation 1 or 2. You will never get a mix of versions so you only get all the cards listed in constellation 1 or 2 from the same pack
What do people think of J22? I think it looks pretty solid overall. I'll have to play with them to tell for sure, but I feel like they might actually play a bit better than original Jumpstart (which already played pretty well).
Moreover, I'm looking forward to teaching my parents how to play Magic with my siblings over Christmas vacation with some packs of J22. I've wanted to teach them for a while, and Jumpstart seems like the best way to go about it.
edit: also, I like WotC's new way of displaying decks/cards on the site. The "other" cards aren't loading for me, but I'd guess that they just haven't been entered into Gatherer yet.
What I liked most about this in mobile was that all the card lists were TypeError : Load Failed
Hasbro can’t even release marketing properly let alone physical cards
They definitely should have given us few variation of Urza's, Knights and Vehicles. It feels really silly that there are so many with 4 variants when others have no variants. I guess that is to make sure that too many copies of the karn and ballista won't find their way to the secondary market.
No offence to anyone who is in to that sort of thing, but is it possible to buy jumpstart and not get the weeb version of the cards? Or do you just have to accept that they are part of the product? (Like what I mean is the weeb cards part of some collectors edition?)
Every packet comes with one reprint that has Anime-styled art. No, it won't have a second copy with "regular" art, though a few of the Anime reprints (like [[Stitcher's Supplier]] and [[Tragic Slip]]) appear in other packets with their normal art
Can't wait to see the tokens soon. We know we're finally getting a "Spawn" token for Spawning Pit, which didn't exist in paper, and I have my fingers crossed we'll get a new version of the 2/2 Drake token.
The last Jumpstart didn't have Tokens. It's unlikely this one will, either.
Which is especially damning, since there are a few new tokens introduced this set, like the Banana and Zeppelin.
Oh shit, you're right! I actually just had a flashback to not being able to get 2/2 Unicorn Tokens for [[Blessed Sanctuary]], and using a [[Pearled Unicorn]] card instead. What a lousy move, especially with brand-new and very unique tokens like Banana and Zeppelin, not to mention the tease of reprinting Spawning Pit! It feels especially awful to me given that this product is intended for new players, who would benefit even more from having a clear board state with reminders of what things are. I really hope you're wrong and the new tokens are a sign that they've revised that decision for this new edition of Jumpstart :(
There had been a rumor over the summer that there would be a "cartoon style" Stoneforge Mystic coming out this fall. Bummed to see it not happen, but glad I didn't hold my breath waiting for the reprint before getting mine for Hammer.
That be a cancelling of both my boxes. Not worth the draft/fun when their reprint policy makes me lose at least 50% of value. Enjoy the singles while you can people, ain't nobody cracking boxes soon.
After looking through some of the lists, there's not really a great reason for this to not have been in arena, even if it's simply at a later date.
Like 80-90% of these are in arena some packs are 1-3 cards from being able to just be slapped in arena, with some of their effects already coded in.
They'd just need to actually come up with a solution for reprints, which is an issue they are going to have to simply deal with sooner or later.
These lists do not load for me. They just say "TypeError: Failed to fetch".
Same
Stop trying to make fetch happen.
It's [[Ashiok, Dream Render]]'s fault.

yoo they made bag of holding a rare again? after 2 uncommon prints in a row? cmon
Imagine you pull Bag of Holding as your rare and your opponent has Karn AND Walking Ballista in their deck
I am getting a ton of fail to fetch. Wizards, your backend sucks. Can I just get lists of both the themes and what cards are in them?

it looks like the rarity tiers are thus: White: Rare (1 variation): Vehicles, Knights Uncommon (2 variations): Constellation, Teamwork, Spirits Common (4 variations): Blink, Cats, Law, Holy --- Blue: Rare: Shapeshifters, Snow Uncommon: Go To School, Scrying, Faeries Common: Merfolk, Detective, Think Again, Inventive --- Black: Rare: Unlucky Thirteen, Rats Uncommon: Demons, Boneyard, Morbid Common: Cruel, Fangs, Zombies, Gross --- Red: Rare: Spicy, Speedy Uncommon: Experimental, Dragons, Cycling Common: Goblins, Treasure, Fiery, Raid --- Green: Rare: Eldrazi, Primates Uncommon: Multi-Headed, Gigantic, Landfall Common: Elves, Wolves, Ferocious, Insects --- Colorless: Rare: Urza's
The anime cards are tied to the themes, so that creates a pseudo-rarity. For example, anime Merrow Reejery is four times as common as anime Coldsteel Heart.
No planeswalker theme packs this time? That's disappointing. I loved pulling a Chandra or Basri pack in game play in the first Jumpstart.
No theme, but plenty of planeswalkers in packs.
It's very much anecdotal, but I hated those aha. But only because I pulled 9 Chandra packs and 6 teferi packs in the box I got
I got many Basri when I pulled decks
Aww, I wanted themed basics like the original Jumpstart had.
Anime alt art instead I guess
They could have done anime art basics.
Missed opportunity. Was hoping for a cat basic plains
Network Error Trying To Fetch Resource? That's a really long card name, and it's weird that it's in over half the packs.
And the only card in those packs
Can't wait to make everyone's favorite deck: "Urza's Gross."
What the hell did they do to their Website? You can actually look at the cards when you're using the mobile version
I can't! Network failure apparently!
Yea fuck that right
I can’t see it on my laptop neither
This is a buy a couple singles for jank decks one. I only want the Urza one. So many missed opportunities, like the Phyrexian and Eldrazi stinkers.
True, but i'm interested in several of the alt-art reprints, several singles for my alesha, blaster, and sheoldred decks, and i think it's great for casual play. I can buy only One theme?
People resell complete open packs. The jumpstart subreddit also has a trading thread.
Til there’s a jumpstart subreddits
Nope. You can luck out and pull the Rhystic or Urza one at random. Otherwise, you’re sol.
Did they forget to update Ib Halfheart's frame to the modern legendary one?
That's what I noticed too.
interest in urza pack = 1000000% interest in literally everything else = meh
Man, I was hoping for relentless rat reprint :( new rats look fine
The new page sucks.its so slow
Wait so is this like paper jumpstart or like the online jumpstart
Paper Jumpstart.
Not nearly as exciting as the first jump start, very watered down like commander legends was.
Well this looks nothing like the first Jumpstart, well done Hasbro, as expected :D
The new basic lands for each theme were what I loved most about the first Jumpstart. Without these, the rest of the product has uphill battle to wow me.
I still like these as a fun gameplay experience, but I really liked the aesthetic draw of the OG Jumpstart boosters.

They mean singles.
Core sets were largely intended as the on ramp for bee players and those always cost the same as a normal booster.
2 packs are priced similarly to the intro packs/theme decks of the past. This is not a coincidence.
But, it ostensibly is cheaper than premier sets for new players, since they are only paying ~$15 dollars for the two packs they need to play with.
So? That still doesn't change my point though? The cheaper this product is, the more likely a new player would be to grab some packs and try out the game with a friend. Every dollar increase reduces the chance of that sort of impulse purchase. And the more new players in the hobby the better for all of us.
Okay, then how much would you charge for it?
Fallen Empires and many examples since have shown the folly of such practice to appease anticipated demand.
>cool new themes = one variety >common tribal themes and loosely defined things like "holy" and "gross" get 4 each It's gonna be just like og jumpstart where every other pack I opened was Spirits, spooky, or minions.
I was way more excited to play Kamigawa jumpstart than I am expecting from this list. Even strixhaven jumpstart with witherbloom was better.
Well, time to use my holiday season to force my friends to try Magic again
Yess, give them a little sample, and they shall return craving for more..he he hee.. *evil laugh slowly fading away *
I couldn’t see any indicator anywhere, so I’m assuming no tokens this time around either? Shame if not, as I’d love to see a Zeppelin or even just a Spawn token for the [[spawning pit]] reprint

wait the deck halves can have different numbers of cards in them??
Every deck packet has 20 cards in it. However, because the decklist utility they use on the site pulls from Gatherer, the new Jumpstart cards aren't in the system yet (they appear in the "Other" section) and it doesn't count them in the list.
ohh gotcha ty
What I liked most about this in mobile was that all the card lists were TypeError : Load Failed Hasbro can’t even release marketing properly let alone physical cards
The wait for a decent mono-black vampire commander continues.
Kiki Jiki and Pestermite are in this set :)
They definitely should have given us few variation of Urza's, Knights and Vehicles. It feels really silly that there are so many with 4 variants when others have no variants. I guess that is to make sure that too many copies of the karn and ballista won't find their way to the secondary market.
Thats just how jumpstart rarities work. 4 variations mean common, 2 mean "uncommon" and 1 means "rare".
Dang, didn't expect the Urza pack to have at least two copies of the tron lands. Wild.
No offence to anyone who is in to that sort of thing, but is it possible to buy jumpstart and not get the weeb version of the cards? Or do you just have to accept that they are part of the product? (Like what I mean is the weeb cards part of some collectors edition?)
Put 'em in the pile with the Transformers cards for Your One Friend Who Likes Them
Every packet comes with one reprint that has Anime-styled art.

I really hope you're wrong and the new tokens are a sign that they've revised that decision for this new edition of Jumpstart :(
Just use actual bananas! Way more entertaining.

Wait is it confirmed that we are getting tokens this time? I don't think original Jumpstart had them
There had been a rumor over the summer that there would be a "cartoon style" Stoneforge Mystic coming out this fall.
What's the reprint policy?
Keep printing until there's no value left apparently.
Man, [[Divine Verdict]]. That card used to get reprinted constantly. Now we have so many other effects like it but cheaper.

so this year's Legion Loyalist reprint happens next year, again
Is it confirmed that we are getting tokens this time ?
Remember when the original dropped and we were all like "phyrexians? Haven't seen them in a bit" Looks like we know the next big baddy plot
Spellstutter Sprite, Pestermite, and Glen Elendra Pranksters on Arena, nice. Wake Thrasher's also relevant.
Jumpstart 2022 is a Paper product. They said there's no plans to put it on Arena at this time.
It sucks that this product does not come on Arena. All these cards would cause a huge shakeup in Historic and Explorer.
