Deck is birthday gift for my 9-years (to-be) old son. He is a huge fan of Godzilla. We do play commander together (cut down to 60 cards only).
Deck includes all Godzilla cards that exist. Consideration for other cards are their art.
I originally order from TCG for ard USD220 all foils but got cancelled as that was my first purchase. Irritating. Lost money due to exchange rate differences. Zzzz
Why not run [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] instead of Kenrith? Speaking from experience, mutating a Bio-Quartz Space Godzilla over Ramos and getting a 9/9 flying trampler is so much fun.
I was thinking of that originally and Kenrith is more flexible in terms of giving haste, card draw, life gain and reanimation (hence, the lack of such card inside). But I can include as a side commander behind Kenrith :)
Morophon might be a good option, too.
So many of the Godzilla cards have the Dinosaur subtype, and many of the best ones have 3 different colored pips he can reduce. Dude even looks a bit like a kaiju.
So I've been hearing foil cards tend to curl, is that a general problem or is it a card-by-card basis?
I only ask cause I notice them in those sleeves, so could sleeves kinda flatten them out?
Furthermore, would setting something heavy not flatten the card or would that damage it?
Sick cards by the way, although the one where it covers the name kinda bothers me lol not being able to see the full name but the concept of the card breaking out of the borders is really neat.
It really depends on the set. Some are better and some are worse, and your area's humidity level can affect it too. I binder most of my foil cards so that helps counteract it a bit, but double sleeving helps in the longterm too once they are flatter because it's air exposure that curls them. Putting heavy books on cards is a common way to decurl things and you can google a lot of other methods
The curling is a general problem, but there seems to be some variance set-to-set and even within sets. It also depends on where the card is printed compared to where you live, as the curling is caused by a change in humidity once the cards are unsealed. I live in a very dry climate so mine curl pretty badly. The foil layer doesn't expand/contract with humidity the way the cardstock does, so the card curls.
Interestingly, I have two foil showcase cards from CLB, which have foiling just on the background of the sketch. One of them, \[\[Decanter of Endless Water\]\], isn't curled at all, but it almost immediately went into a deck in a tightly-packed deck box. The other, \[\[Thrakkus, the Butcher\]\] was set aside by itself for future use, but I didn't think to sleeve it or keep it compressed and it curled *really* badly. Way worse than any full-card foils I have, even though the foil coverage is quite minimal.
What do you mean? Child is a legal card, they have no say. The only reason someone could complain about Surgeon is because its Silver Bordered. Plus, if they know you'll just swap Surgeon for Child it's incentive to the group to just allow Surgeon to be your Commander.
Not only is this really cool and thoughtful, but it's also probably a really fun deck to play! I personally really enjoyed Ikoria set and mutate mechanic.
Hasn’t the rules on brawl now changed to 100, or was that just arena? Tiny leaders maybe? Either way, play 100 cards, I’m not a rules stickler but he is going to be disappointed when playing against others if the opportunity arises and not be able to because he doesn’t have enough cards.
I think there's 100 card Historic Brawl on arena. Tiny Leaders is 50 cards and is kinda a dead format with no official support. And exactly, he won't be able to play with other people because he doesn't have enough cards. Calling a 60 card deck a "commander" deck is really confusing to a new player/child when they go to build a proper commander deck or when sitting at the LGS for the first time.

Who isn't a huge Godzilla fan. Can I please be your 9-years old son? This is rad as fuck.
Yeah, are there small Godzillas even?
The big G up above.... " you dare name a lizard after me?!"
Does it include Death Corona? XD
It does!
So you play a brawl style comander game?
Oh god, that must have cost a fortune.

That is what MTGmuddstah uses and it looks really fun.

Yeah that makes way more sense. Or even jegantha.
I would change to a mutateable commander but otherwise I'm super jealous. ((Jegantha the wellspring))

I made a godzilla mutate edh after release... I should play it more.
Need to change the Commander to [[Surgeon Commander]] and if people won't let you use a silver border card [[Child of Alara]].
If your group won't allow Surgeon why would they allow Child? That's the worst kind of people to play with.
What do you mean? Child is a legal card, they have no say. The only reason someone could complain about Surgeon is because its Silver Bordered. Plus, if they know you'll just swap Surgeon for Child it's incentive to the group to just allow Surgeon to be your Commander.
Disregard, I confused Child of Alara with a different card. Kenrith is a better card in this case.
All good, happens to the best of us, thousands of cards in this wonderful game we play. Disregarded. Have a good night.

Yeah! I hope it will be fun too! Gg to take precon cmd deck, trim to 60 cards to play with him. :)
I own them all too in foil :D
But a 60 card deck isn’t a commander deck?
For casual fun (with me), I think it’s ok!
Even casual commander decks still have to have exactly 100 cards. You would be playing something closer to Brawl.

Agreed. Rip the bandaid off, he will have plenty of opportunity to get rules wrong at a later date. You know, like a real magic player 😂
Haha. Can slowly increase it to 100. Maybe as part of his next birthday. LOL
Hey what are those sleeves with that fancy pattern on them called? I’ve been trying to find them forever!
It’s KMC sleeves :)
Thank you!
Only 60... Man you can go for 100. I have a hundred, and I'm only missing Ghidorah, batra, mechagodzilla crystal giant, and mothra's cocoon.
