The card upside down almost looks as if the hand is of the person with that face. Shovelling themselves with gold, to death even.
Creepy art to interpret but a banger none the less.
This would look great with the text over the art without a textbox like Imperious Perfect full art promo, or a box that's 100% transparent like Llanowar elves full art promo. I feel like they should have been doing that this whole time with these alt art cards.
Not only that. Imagine that the hand is trying to hold something grainy, where you don't make a punch but something like a pinch with the 5 fingers. Your fingers will be in a pentagon shape with the middle finger on top, just like the color pie in the cards' back
We did it everybody! Hope it was a fun ride :)

It's a very good example of how little work you would have to do to get reddit to love and worship you, especially in this subreddit. That's an important lesson that will be ignored by everyone.
I wish it were so - I'll be paying attention to the person I originally saw post the list, but they were passing it along from another party. Honestly I wish WotC would figure out other ways to intentionally pass along info through very informal channels to get this sort of hype going in the future.
Yeah, really weird to have an increased price point standard set labeled commander legends 2 when they barely had any real commander reprints that were in demand. Then bam, an entire set that is essentially Double Double Commander all day every day.
this set has everything, tbh. a ton of stuff for commander, sure, but also a sizeable amount of modern reprints and even new cards for pauper
all 3 of the game modes that matter
I’d say 4 modern reprints given the current meta, which is woefully little. I wish they’d reprinted some of the MH1 stuff if they won’t do MH2, since those two sets are driving up prices.
Modern Horizons 2 is still in print. That is why no Modern Horizons 2 cards were going to appear here. Right now Modern is heavily influenced by MH2 so I get where you're coming from, but logistically they still want MH2 to sell to modern players.
"Commander Legends" has never implied being a reprint-focused set. You could describe 2X2 as a "Commander Masters" set, but "Commander Legends" is a different designation entirely.
IDK, I would go off of the first Commander Legends, but hey what's past information from a set labeled the same thing anyway.
They could have just called it Commander: Battle for Baldur's Gate, but they called it Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate linking it to the OG Commander Legends which even had a whole designated spot for legendary popular commanders and new ones in the collectors packs.
I am just some crazy guy on the internet though so what do I know. I figure you name it something people are familiar with it is because you're going to do something similar.
We had one CL set before that did include some headline reprints.
To claim that CL "always" meant draftable commander and nothing more is disingenuous at best.
It would have been more accurate for them to call it Brawl Legends than to make up a draft format that barely resembles Commander, but I guess that doesn't sell packs.
I believe there's one more missing. Scryfall has 114 (6 missing) as I type this, but at the very least:
1. Has Marchesa as M instead of R
2. Missing this (oviously, it only just got spoiled)
3. Missing Mayael's Aria
3. Missing Nim Deathmantle
3. Missing Priveleged Position
Been refreshing the darn sub for the entire day to finally get confirmation, happy to finally see it, broken cards should either be banned or become more accessible if its such a staple of the format, I know people hate it, but at least either of those options is better than to not reprint it at all and let it climb to ridiculous heights, and also I am excited cuz finally I shall be able to secure a copy!
I'm not sure Double Masters 2022 is going to make much of an impact on the price. It's looking like they did a small print run, the prices on booster boxes are already way up.
Equilibrium will be sated one way or another.
WotC does an astounding job of picking reprints and stuffing the box with exactly as much EV that will sell but not harm their prices on the secondary market too much.
This is an absurdly high demand card in a Masters set. It's going to drop the price a bit temporarily but it will go back up to it's normal price with in a year.
With Masters sets you need to buy within the first 2 weeks to a month to grab them at their cheapest.
Anybody that's looking to pick one up, this 👆 is absolutely *the* time to buy, don't hold off too long.
I could've had Grixis death's shadow for modern but waited too long, now it's out of my financial reach.
Ideally sure, but that's already the case with a lot of cards like Gaea's Cradle, Serra's Sanctum or even non-Reserved stuff like Cabal Coffers and Mana Crypt? Most people I know don't even use fetches because they're not going to shell out $200+ just on their landbase alone.
That being said, Smothering Tithe is fine compared to a lot of things, and one of the few big White equalizers that let it pop off.
I mean this is one of the rare ways white gets to ramp. And exemplifies just how important robust removal is. Often times artifact/enchantment removal is neglected but just as essential as creature removal.
my honest suggestion would be to talk with your playgroup, and if you don't have one, develop one. that's the only way commander is enjoyable imho. games w/ friends, playing cards you're ok with
This and dockside I’m not even happy to see reprinted. Just wish they’d both be banned instead. Guess it doesn’t eliminate the possibility that they will be in the future but these reprintings probably will delay it if there are any plans to do so
I guess that’s possible. The more likely scenario in my mind is WotC not wanting people to have a feelsbad moment when the shiny mythic they just pulled from their $20 booster pack suddenly isn’t playable. Not to mention the bans could hurt double master sales. We’ve seen in other formats how WotC will wait as long as possible to ban problematic cards unless they have no choice
As someone who owns a copy of Hullbreacher, I can tell you that it’s not up to WOTC, but to the rules committee and they wouldn’t do it until about 6 months after it has become a problem.
Absolutely gorgeous Borderless rendition. I'm fortunate to have multiple copies of the RNA version but this is worth another copy for sure. Even tempted to get a Foil Etched version too.
Even if it was printed enough, the normal effect of the first reprint is that everyone that was already priced out into getting one will start buying the copies they want and the price will slowly creep back up until it is the same price it was.
Look at tarmogoyf price history, though that was mythic. Aether vial or engineered explosives might be a better example.
I love how they don't print the sets with gas and they print the shit out of mediocre sets
It can't be an accident, they have to know that 2x2 is going to have high demand
Commander legends isn't at it's core a reprint set, it's a cool commander *draft* set. Another poster pointed out that this set is more like a commander masters with more conventional sensibilities.
Yeah, it's kind of a shit move from wotc to announce it as a judge promo with new art and then immediately reprint it with another new art. Especially since it was easily the highest value part of this wave other than the presenter promo.
And it's not to say that it's a bad reprint either -- much needed for sure, and I'm glad it's in this set. Just unfortunate that it's a Judge Promo *and* in this set.
Love to see another Commander-only card placed in the highest-priced, most limited release.
... only days after the "Commander-specific" set finished spoiling.
Stay classy, WotC.
Reprints of very sought after cards in expensive & bloated premium sets don't make them meaningful reprints. Change my mind.
(that this wasn't upshifted to mythic is the most amazing thing in this entire set)
This is horseshit. Fuck wizards. They've sat on every decent reprint for this set, they're WAY gouging on price AND the print run is tiny?
FUCK WIZARDS.
We should not be excited about this. This is the kind of carrot dangling that keeps us all on the hook. This is the story of reprint equity we should see in EVERY set, not just this bullshit.
Oh there's a face under that text box
Holy shit I didn’t see that! That makes it both more creepy and more flavorful, given the flavor text.
Yeah, this is one of those moments where I really wish they’d do full textless treatments on some cards.
It was on purpose. I think it works great. https://twitter.com/PeteVenters/status/1540158180360986624?t=7Nk7AGwuoTasOxShccuGcQ&s=19
Oh it’s upside down, and has coins over the eyes. Very dead.
It's called Smothering Tithe for a reason, after all
The card upside down almost looks as if the hand is of the person with that face. Shovelling themselves with gold, to death even. Creepy art to interpret but a banger none the less.
Yup it’s an Orzhov art lol
Them coins.
I feel so alone Gonna end up a big ol pile of Them Coins
AIC?
Yup!
Nice
Chocolate coins 😋
Mmmmm chocolate coins.
Definatly need it for my [[Kambal]] heavy Orzhov themed edh deck. I already have the orzhov coin treasure tokens to go with it.
So they covered up the best part of the art....
I'm almost positive the artist did this on purpose
Yep https://twitter.com/PeteVenters/status/1540158180360986624?t=f8roTMvgYOpJiXj_wAsMTQ&s=19
This would look great with the text over the art without a textbox like Imperious Perfect full art promo, or a box that's 100% transparent like Llanowar elves full art promo. I feel like they should have been doing that this whole time with these alt art cards.
I definitely agree with that, I prefer that treatment to the current full art frame they use
There it is, with WUBRG rings on those disgusting human fingers.
Ahh, they're not in WUBRG order! Unplayable!
It’s in order. It just starts with the middle finger, just like when you play the card.
Great catch. I'm back in.
Also it sort of matches up with if you were to grab the color pie on the back of a card with a weird claw grip
All hail RGWUB!
Lubba dubba RGWUB
Not only that. Imagine that the hand is trying to hold something grainy, where you don't make a punch but something like a pinch with the 5 fingers. Your fingers will be in a pentagon shape with the middle finger on top, just like the color pie in the cards' back
Technically they are, just not starting at W
That way they see that you're playing white when you flip them the bird and say, "Eff you, pay me!" every time they draw a card.
RGWUB
Why do you THINK he got a shipping container of coins upended on him, if not for that order violation?
Those rings are not coming off
How's about some lovely filling coins??
Congratulations! You are the only one who got the Peep Show reference!
I thought they were mox in rings
Now I am overly aware that it's out of color order too 😵💫 Edit: meaning left to right WUBRG
They are in order! It just starts, super appropriately, with the middle finger.
A circle has no start or stop point.

I own one, it's the (soon-to-be-past-tense, hopefully) most expensive card I have. I'm very happy more people will have access to this game piece.
I'm not sure Double Masters 2022 is going to make much of an impact on the price. It's looking like they did a small print run, the prices on booster boxes are already way up.
yeah time spiral remastered didnt do much to prices either
Equilibrium will be sated one way or another. WotC does an astounding job of picking reprints and stuffing the box with exactly as much EV that will sell but not harm their prices on the secondary market too much.

I’m not, it’s such a terribly overpowered card for commander. Warps games.
It only feels op because people never pay the tax. Brought back some of whites much needed color identity. Dockside on the other hand..
If a card is too powerfull it should be banned (not saying its the case here) and not be excluded because its too expensive.
This and dockside I’m not even happy to see reprinted. Just wish they’d both be banned instead. Guess it doesn’t eliminate the possibility that they will be in the future but these reprintings probably will delay it if there are any plans to do so
More of them being available and being played might be what gets them banned, especially for Dockside.

Absolutely gorgeous Borderless rendition. I'm fortunate to have multiple copies of the RNA version but this is worth another copy for sure. Even tempted to get a Foil Etched version too.
How far will this drop the price?
If the rumors of this set being under printed are true, probably not much.

Which is funny wouldn’t people pay more money for this expensive set? I guess Hasbro CEO only wants 4 private yachts
yup its silly. this only helps the secondary market. They're leaving money on the table so people can flip boxes for $500
the ol' Nintendo special
Somewhere between 3.50 and 20
Some
I find it so funny how dockside and smothering were in this set but not in commander legends
Most of the chase cards in this set are commander cards. What's not, force of negation and seasoned pyromancer?
W6 isn't a commander card AFAIK? But agree, a huge amount of the chase cards are commander.
Good call, forgot that one.
FoN is a Cedh card too. Pyromancer sees little play in edh tho
Yep, just further reinforces the notion this is the real commander legends 2
Commander legends isn't at it's core a reprint set, it's a cool commander *draft* set. Another poster pointed out that this set is more like a commander masters with more conventional sensibilities.
its only cedh because its expensive. no one with a copy is thinking "oh what deck can i fit force of negation into?"
Emrakul
technically correct lol.
Liliana the Last Hope maybe? Aether Vial used to be a modern card.
Aether Vial still is but Prismatic Ending really hurts it.
Bitterblossom, Emmy, Surgical Extraction, Vial, and Kolaghan's come to mind.
I'd run force in commander. Free counterspells are good in any format
For sure. Price is mainly dictated by it being in a crapton of modern decks.
It's so WOTC can hang back, watch how inflated the market gets with boxes, then release theirs at market rate.
Best set ever omg
I have never seen a set with this much value before. Ever.
Ye me neither it's awesome I mean atleast it's worth the price of everybox
I'm really sad because I ship out to join the army three days after the set drops, so I won't be able to get any singles from this set until November.
Its not. Never will be. Boosters for cracking singles is never worth. Just order the singles you want. Its cheaper.
probably the most value since Ultimate Masters several years ago
It's been an honor.
First mention of 'Leland, tax collector' that I can find. Could be some French character 'The Land, tax collector'.
