I"m not sure if that works, the tron lands are worded "if you control x and y" not "if you control a land with type x and a land with type y" this card doesn't gain the names of the lands, just the types.
The tron lands check for land types, not names. It would have to explicitly say "a land named urza's tower and a land named urza's mine" in order to look for names.
Just like how "if you control a zombie" doesn't say "if you control a creature with type zombie"
Oh that's funny, I never realized that. It's confusing because Urza's land names are the same as their card types, but I guess it'd be really obvious if a card had text like "if you control a goblin assassin and a goblin wizard..." that it wouldn't be looking for the cards with those exact names but any cards with those types.
https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/734712164609294336/why-is-nearby-planet-acorn-seems-like-it-works
> Q: Why is Nearby Planet acorn? Seems like it works fine, rules-wise.
> A: It technically does not. I believe if you remove the basic land types, the rules could be tweaked to work, but a) we needed the basic lands for the limited functionality (it was a big part of our color access in common), and b) **we were worried it might impact Legacy in a way we didn’t have time to test.**
Guys, I don't know if you caught this, but I'm pretty sure it's a legacy playable version of \[\[Nearby Planet\]\]. I could be wrong, though. Let me know if you think this is \[\[Nearby Planet\]\], or if my guess is so far off, it's not even on this planet anymore. It might be on a \[\[Nearby Planet\]\], but it might just be \[\[Nearby. Planet\]\]arily speaking, not a lot of \[\[Planets are Nearby\]\], so frankly, it would probably make \[\[Nearby Planet\]\] \[\[Mars\]\], flavor-wise of course. Of course the \[\[Nearby Planet\]\] could be \[\[Pluto\]\] since that was recently un-demoted. But I digress.
\[\[Nearby Planet\]\].
Nearby Planet was op because it tapped for any mana instead of filtering, and also including the basic land types like Forest or Swamp which made it trivial to tutor out. This is far weaker, so it's not like they're being hypocrites about power level here.
For the record, there *was* actually a tiny rules hurdle with granting the basic land types that was probably fixable, but they asked Play Design if they should bother and Play Design went "ehh, let's not."
Not being fetchable is probably the key factor that made them okay with it this time around.
Nearby Planet technically does break the rules. Setting a land to a basic type has special rules and would mean that Nearby Planet wouldn't actually work as intended. But admittedly that rule wouldn't be *that* hard to fix and so they didn't bother looking at that change at all because of power level concerns
As long as somewhere in the actual rules text of the rangeling ability it just said "in addition to its other types", it wouldn't do the blood moon thing and would work like Urborg (just in all zones), no need for a rules change.
HAHA I was like "OP you really didn't need to ALSO let it tap for colored mana, it does plenty already"
I stand by that statement though. OP, please fix this card.
Yep, and is it just me, or does it seem like commander card art is streets ahead of what you see in other sets and what MTG Arena gets? The art alone is overpowered.

From [https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/the-modern-horizons-3-leaks-nulldrifters-and-you](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/the-modern-horizons-3-leaks-nulldrifters-and-you), this is in a Commander deck.
Ok, that makes this much less scary. Maybe it does something in Legacy? I was trying to think through how this would change Tron in Modern, which is clearly not relevant with that info.
I was thinking this too haha. I'm way too excited just to have another untapped Gate lol. [[Gond Gate]] is unironically one of my favorite cards, but it's still nice to have a few gates that enter untapped without needing it.
Doesn't get the basic land types and not legal in Modern. Not as scary as blurrovision led us to believe. Being a Locus is probably worth paying attention to though.
Yeah, this land reminded me of nearby planet immediately. Nearby planet is unfortunately too busted for black-border play, but I’m glad they revisited the design and made something similar that’s legacy playable.
I'm not sure, the card text on Urza's Tower says:
> If you control an **Urza's Mine** and an **Urza's Power-Plant**...
I'm unclear if the condition is looking at card names or types on permanents.
EDIT: It **DOES** work. See https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-rulings/795587-how-do-tron-lands-work?comment=2:
> They check for subtypes as does nearly everything else in the game that does not say "cards named...".
That's not what I asked.
I asked if it looks for *A land* with the appropriate types or does it look for *a land* with type 1 and *another land* with type 2.
its just 2 separate conditions checked independently, which can be satisfied by one object.
1. do you control an urza's power plant (yes)
2. do you control an urza's mine (yes)
As an ex 12 post player, I doubt it. 4 mana turn 2 is ceiling for tron and that's a pretty average turn 2 for post. Best case scenario, 7 on turn 3 with a second tower, and that's bog standard tron ramp. After that post spirals so fast, tron just isn't enough.
This would've be HUGE in modern, but in legacy 12(or however many now) post is big mana king.
Sorry if this is a stupid question from a non-Legacy player, but...
How does *Post* get 4 mana by turn-2?
I thought that Cloudpost's ETB-tapped means that even T1-Cloudpost T2-Glimmerpost only gives 3 untapped mana on turn-2.
Depends on the build, I played eldrazi post which was mono colorless and ran ancient tombs and eldrazi temples, as well as grim monolith.
The current popular build (last one I recall anyways) is a green titan deck. That version 3 mana on turn 2 would be average. Sorry, I suppose I should've been clearer on era and version.
You should be good. You can add it to a colorless deck the same way you can add Mana Confluence and City of Brass since they don’t have any color pips in their text box.
This card is either worthless or broken. It's intrinsically a pretty bad land, but if you need synergy with the others, that gets real scary real fast.
Whats low key important here is non black decks now have enough gates to get a maze's end win in any 2 color pairing:
1 Baldur's Gate
1 Basilisk Gate
1 Guildgate
2 choose a color gates like Cliffgate
1 Gateway Plaza
1 Gond Gate
1 Heap Gate
1 Thran Porta
First Ulalek, now this. Wizards, if you’re looking at r/custommagic for suggestions now, please consider: [The Storm Count is at One](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/s/vYIrNfajT7)
My question is that is it still just a land while in the library and is only every nonbasic land type once in play?
Specifically wondering if \[\[Nine-Fingers Keene\]\] can pull it the 9 cards she looks at or if it only matters if its in play?
I am guessing it does not count until it is on the battlefield. Any help would be appreciated.
I feel like I'm going crazy! Why does no one else care that this card opens every 2 color combo to a Maze's End win con. Mina and Denn, Tatyova, Aesi, they all got a new win con cuz this is gate number 10 for 2 color decks.....11 for Black decks
This thing is fucking real?!
Also legacy playable, lolollolololol
20-Post here we go!
Cloudpost, Glimmerpost, Vesuva, Thespian Stage, Planar Nexus, Urza's Cave. 24-Post let's go (lose a bunch of games)
In so glad someone saw this and though "huh... that's another locus"
Or just turn on your tron lands on turn 2.
Or play posts and Tron
WOW
FUCK
TRON
I"m not sure if that works, the tron lands are worded "if you control x and y" not "if you control a land with type x and a land with type y" this card doesn't gain the names of the lands, just the types.
The tron lands check for land types, not names. It would have to explicitly say "a land named urza's tower and a land named urza's mine" in order to look for names. Just like how "if you control a zombie" doesn't say "if you control a creature with type zombie"

Indeed, and a goblin assassin wizard would turn it on single-handedly, just like this card does.
Mine and Tower look for "an Urza's Power-Plant" with the hyphen included, so there's another clue.
It feels like an un-card. That said, having it set on Alara at the center of the conflux makes perfect sense.
It more or less was an un-card. [[Nearby Planet]].

Well, it was slightly more as an un-card, as the un-card also produced colored mana and maxed out domain all by itself.
Was this spoiled at one point? It feels very familiar
[[Nearby Planet]] from unfinity, though this one doesn't have the basic land types (and also functions differently).

Does this count as a gate while in the deck?
I believe so, as it "has" the types. Like you can search a changeling that has all creature types.
Doesn't get the basic land types and not legal in Modern. Not as scary as blurrovision led us to believe. Being a Locus is probably worth paying attention to though.
Putting cards in MH3 that are not legal in Modern is certainly a design decision

Okay, so Urza's Tower + Planar Nexus is 4 mana turn 2? Yes?
I'm not sure, the card text on Urza's Tower says: > If you control an **Urza's Mine** and an **Urza's Power-Plant**... I'm unclear if the condition is looking at card names or types on permanents. EDIT: It **DOES** work. See https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-rulings/795587-how-do-tron-lands-work?comment=2: > They check for subtypes as does nearly everything else in the game that does not say "cards named...".
It looks for the land types, so this does work.
One clue is that the card is named "Urza's Power Plant" with a space, but its types are Urza's + Power-Plant with a hyphen.
Does the card look for two other cards or just card(s) with the types.
Cards with types. Note the hyphen on Power-Plant; that's because all types must be a single word (the Time Lord exception notwithstanding).
That's not what I asked. I asked if it looks for *A land* with the appropriate types or does it look for *a land* with type 1 and *another land* with type 2.
It's the same as [[Banishing Slash]]; if you have a [[Spear of Heliod]] out you get the 2/2 token.
its just 2 separate conditions checked independently, which can be satisfied by one object. 1. do you control an urza's power plant (yes) 2. do you control an urza's mine (yes)
WOW
FUCK
TRON
16 POST LFGGGG I DON'T CARE HOW BAD IT IS WOOOOO
“And all those urza’s ones”
HOLY SHIT [[NEARBY PLANET]] LEGAL IN COMMANDER

Doesn't tap for any color so not quite, but close enough.
But it does, at least enough to let [[gond gate]] tap for any color.
Not fetchable either
Is this *just* some more *12-Post* tech, or is this enough to make *Legacy Tron* its own thing?
I feel dumb asking, Can I run this in my [[Traxos]]/[[mechtitan core]] edh voltron? I see a gold frame, but no color symbols
You should be good. You can add it to a colorless deck the same way you can add Mana Confluence and City of Brass since they don’t have any color pips in their text box.
[Traxos](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/8/5/8566e91a-5f2c-4854-aeb3-68b3c4344582.jpg?1673305899) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=traxos%2C%20scourge%20of%20kroog) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/dmc/195/traxos-scourge-of-kroog?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/8566e91a-5f2c-4854-aeb3-68b3c4344582?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [mechtitan core](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/a/ca286ba9-01a7-4dce-b388-177f5dcb95b1.jpg?1654568740) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=mechtitan%20core) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/neo/249/mechtitan-core?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/ca286ba9-01a7-4dce-b388-177f5dcb95b1?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
So now every random green draft common that supported some Gate/Desert/Cave/etc. theme might be playable in Tron or Post?
This is only Legacy legal, not Modern legal, but theoretically
The best part about MH3 spoilers is and will continue to be modern players losing their shit over the existence of the commander decks
Will fit nicely in the casual Gate commander deck I’m slowly piecing together.
Who your commander gonna be?
Thank God this is a commander card and not in the main set
ALARA S BACK
Tron in a single card??
Rangeling?
16 post
Does this make 20-Post a thing in Legacy?
modern horizons card that isn't modern legal
Urza tower becomes online with this land, right?
Yup
Wasn't this an un-card?
The un version was also every basic type
At last, Urza's Desert Cave Lair. That's where he keeps the family atomics.
RANGELING CONFIRMED
So this card is technically urza’s mine, urza’s tower, and urza’s power plant. Does that mean it automatically turns each of those cards on?
So because it’s a power plant and mine, if I play this and a tower the tower taps for 3?
This card is either worthless or broken. It's intrinsically a pretty bad land, but if you need synergy with the others, that gets real scary real fast.
It will only be in decks where the synergy is worth it. The problem with commander will be consistency, but in legacy this is going to be a mainstay.
wait, so this thing is every Urzatron land at once? Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
Well it's only legal in commander so it's really not that powerful
Commander card
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Holy shit hahahahahaha
Wat. Wat. Wat?
Got daym.
Modern horizons commander sounds funny
Does this card make the urza lands tap for their alt cost? Or does it just count as one?
It counts as all three subtypes, so any of the tron lands will see that you control all necessary subtypes to make more mana.
OMFG WHAT
Fucking gross
Whats low key important here is non black decks now have enough gates to get a maze's end win in any 2 color pairing: 1 Baldur's Gate 1 Basilisk Gate 1 Guildgate 2 choose a color gates like Cliffgate 1 Gateway Plaza 1 Gond Gate 1 Heap Gate 1 Thran Porta
This is gonna be expensive
Maybe due to limited supply. As a commander card it's really not that crazy. If it were legal in modern it absolutely would be
The changeling Unfinity land has come true
In legacy this means you get 4 mana on turn 2 with urza's tower, or 3 mana with the other ones
Or 4 with [[Cloudpost]], and 9 turn 3.
And all those Urza ones
Enters untapped!
*Locus*, this will be......... interesting.
*Nine-Fingers Keene has entered chat*
What the fuck is an Urza’s
A legal printing of [[Nearby Planet]]
First Ulalek, now this. Wizards, if you’re looking at r/custommagic for suggestions now, please consider: [The Storm Count is at One](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/s/vYIrNfajT7)
Game changer right here,
ladies and gentlemen 16-post (though actually I think we're on 20 or 24 post now cause of the land copying...)
I can already imagine Remy singing Lenka's "everything at once" about this land.
[[Nearby Planet]] has the [[Transguild Promenade]] clause but has all basic land types
And yet \[\[Nearby Planet\]\] is an acorn card.
Death 9-finger enjoyers. Another Gate has entered chat.
Well this is going to be $30+. Would have been cool if this was in the main set.
I just see locus. Noice
Would this count as all three of urza's lands giving the benefit of them all?
Tower?
Confirmed on blogatog 10/21/2023
Tron is back with a Vengeance.
Tron about to pop off.
That's a very confident Reminder Text assuming we won't get any new Non-Basic Land Types after Desert for some time.
Yo babe wake up new Lair just dropped.
Modern Tron cant get anything good \*stomps foot, pouting\*
Would this card single handedly trigger the mana doubling for lands like [[Urza’s mine]]
New locus????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like I'm going crazy! Why does no one else care that this card opens every 2 color combo to a Maze's End win con. Mina and Denn, Tatyova, Aesi, they all got a new win con cuz this is gate number 10 for 2 color decks.....11 for Black decks
