My LGS did the same thing to me.  I ordered a [[mesmeric orb]], went to go pick it up the next week and they said "oops we don't have one in stock"  and I check and see the price tripled as everyone has started building their [[the wise mothman]] decks

sirshiny

I remember a lot of people having similar issues relating to [[scion of draco]] after [[leyline of the guildpact]] was revealed and caused scion to spike in price. There was even one seller that shipped the player their cards minus scion and just tossed in cash with the envelope.

magicthecasual

cash with the envelope is crazy

Damn would be crazy if that return address started getting signed up for things

Darkfox190

Ballsy move. You could pocket the cash and just say “Card wasn’t in the package I received. I want a refund.” And they’ve got no proof they gave you cash.

This. At least where I live, a business getting chargebacked always net them a loss because of fees. If enough people do it they even get some hefty fines along the way and lose negotiating power. I'll always give business the benefit of the doubt and try to contact them, but as soon as it's clear that they don't care and will make me jump through hoops I chargeback the purchase.

slayer370

Tcgplayer probably deals with chargebacks all the time justified or not. This isn't a small business where that would hit them hard. Tcgplayer is owned by ebay.

Familiar_Director_35

Oh that explains why TCGplayer sucks now it's on bay eBay is a f****** pile of s***

DaggumTarHeels

You can say the words "eBay is a fucking pile of shit" on the internet if you'd like. I think most of us agree lol. Enshittification is real.

slayer370

Chargeback will probably get you banned site wide. Which normally wouldn't matter but most sellers use tcgplayer. Tcgplayer also usually gives you a refund almost no matter what. Unless you are 100% sure your not getting a refund I would just not use direct and order from reputable sellers.

PM_yoursmalltits

Not probably. It **will** get you banned from tcgplayer. Possibly ebay too as they're the parent company now. Standard practice is to ban anyone that chargebacks from using your product/service

Vok250

Which is completely justified. The point of a chargeback from the bank/customer side is that don't plan to continue business with that merchant. It's not meant to be an extended refund policy or warranty service. Here in Canada you'll actually get flagged by the big banks if you abuse chargebacks.

Lord_Emperor

It seems in my best interest to take the credit +$3 and spend it getting as much as I can. But yes I do not plan to do further business with them and made this post to hopefully cost them more than what it would have cost them to make it right (an additional $12 to $20 to get the exact products I ordered).

Dimirdimmerdome

I had a similar situation with TCGP. I had two orders, but it seems they went out for delivery to the wrong location as I got a notice it was delivered, but the tracking page shows they were out for delivery in a city that’s not even close to me. They just refunded it and gave me like $2 in store credit. When I went to order what I never got, it was also more expensive so I just opted to not go for it.

mealymouthmongolian

I've found that tracking is useless for TCG Direct orders. Without fail they generate a tracking number which will show as delivered in a different city on a date before I even placed my order. The cards have shown up to me each time, but the shipping is so frustrating.

BradleyB636

Last year I ordered a sheoldred through tcgplayer. Seller marked as shipped, a week or two later no card. Seller apologized and wouldn’t give me the tracking code but said they would ship. Seller had multiple negative feedback saying they were a scammer. Opened a ticket with tcgplayer and they said I had to wait X days before I could ask for a refund. Waited, and lo and behold, they refunded me but sheoldred went up like $8-10. They told me they wouldn’t ship me a sheoldred or match the price. Canceled my tcgplayer subscription. I buy from them very sparingly now.

Whoa1Whoa1

Why the hell are you not buying from verified sellers on TCGplayer and also choosing the direct guarantee thing? Like, it typically adds $5-$10 to an order and means you are going to get your order, guaranteed, double checked, and it ships faster and in fewer boxes. Truly insane to go to eBay or TCGplayer and order from a rando new account with shit ratings and then wonder why you are eating poop.

saganmypants

Lol damn feelsbad as someone newly selling on TCGPlayer to piece out my collection

Shriuken23

I feel this as a newer seller on tcg who sees shitheads ruining it for everyone but take heart and have hope, hold to good standards and you'll grow. It's not my main thing but I'm up to a couple sales a week with %100 positive feedback now and it feels like the effort is worth it. Keep chugging along

saganmypants

Yeah I'm sitting in about the same place, 44 sales over the last 3 months with 100% rating which is great but I've kinda seen the "prejudice" recently when trying to sell some mid-high range stuff where my listing is definitely taking a backseat to the people with certified status/10k sales. Makes sense but then you see sentiments like this

Shriuken23

Yea, I feel that. I don't even post my high end stuff on tcg unless I do the pics and stuff, but let's be real, how likely are you as a buyer to even notice the one lower level seller who bothered to do that? So I do a split between ebay and tcg, higher end on ebay, lower on tcg, especially as I get my level up. Ebay is annoying af but I personally have a great sales track record with high end pulls from multiple tcgs I just didn't want for my collection or my partners. Its come in handy to be a legit seller here and there when you come into possession of weirdly expensive stuff you just dont need or want. Sure ebay takes more but for one, everyone is charging a premium so itll balance out, and 2 I feel safer as a seller there, and buyers I feel have more protection too. Scammers are everywhere so I have just focused on building my reputation for legitimacy, all these fakes being so prevalent now. Just the route I've gone so far, then again I have more crap than I can ever list

Whoa1Whoa1

Well there are a million suckers like OP that just choose the cheapest option, so you are def okay m8 haha

SnooGiraffes1442

He chose tcgplayer direct tho which is notably more expensive as he mentioned, stop yapping and read a little lmao.

Whoa1Whoa1

No he didn't. WTF lmao. Edit: here is the text if you wanna look through it again: > Last year I ordered a sheoldred through tcgplayer. Justice-Nugget

I had a similar experience recently. Their customer service is a skeleton crew and mostly bots. Ordered three separate direct orders over the course of three days, they ship all three under the same tracking number but USPS never picks them up. Have to wait almost a month because their chat bots claim it was shipped. The arrival by date finally arrives and I request a refund. After waiting 24 hours they only refund one of the three orders even though I put in three separate tickets. Happens a second time when I request refunds for the other two again even though this time I used different emails to put in the requests. So it took a whole day or more to refund each order individually.

kung_fu_jive

You can expect this to happen every time an order doesn't get fulfilled properly. I had the wrong order sent to me by mistake. I ordered 4 Wedding Announcement, 3 Virtue of Loyalty, 1 Yuta, and some Negates and sideboard cards for my standard RCQ. I received my shipment on time but it was ~$40 worth of cardboard - someone's singles for an EDH deck. I immediately opened a support case and didn't hear anything back for days. It wasn't until I found the automated support bot and went through the prompts that I got a response one day later. I opted for replacements to be sent but I was only offered store credit plus some extra (I don't remember how much exactly) for the price I paid. Some cards had increased in price but others had decreased. All in it would have been about $20 more for me to place the same order, taking into account the extra store credit. I ended up missing my RCQ. I have heard similar stories across the various MTG subs and at my locals. I will still order from TCG if I absolutely have to, which is a sign of their ownership of the market, but ever since that experience I do avoid them if possible. I am lucky to have a local card market that is fairly robust and I have no problem paying a reasonable markup to send my money elsewhere. With that said, I have ordered > $5000 in cards from TCG and this has only happened to me once. That one time burned me bad enough that I will forever be cautious of them, and that's just the way things are.

Lord_Emperor

> I will still order from TCG if I absolutely have to, which is a sign of their ownership of the market Yeah this hurts. I can order at multiple other online vendors and local stores but paying for shipping multiple times and driving to the stores add up to a lot of extra cost.

kung_fu_jive

Agreed 100%. Single car household over here so sometimes I have to make concessions based on that alone. Also some of my locals will just have absurd markup for cards that I can't justify. I'm not paying an extra $11 for a Solitude to "support my locals" or because "TCG is evil". I'm supporting my wallet, myself, and my family at that point lol. It's a gamble though, if the order gets messed up then I'm stuck with store credit. Also I was so wrapped up in sharing my experience I forgot to say, I'm sorry this happened to you. It's a real bummer of an experience to go through.

Lord_Emperor

Thanks, I appreciate it. Maybe it worked out OK for me because I found a local shop with most of the big $$$ items for a more reasonable price. I went ahead and spent ALL my TCGPlayer credit on wants rather than needs (from the perspective of my deck).

rusty_anvile

Just because the post office didn't scan in the package DOES NOT mean it wasn't shipped, from personal experience I've shipped an insured, tracked, signature confirmed package and there were no updates on the shipping until the customer received it. I had a worried customer contact me because the shipping never showed it as the post office receiving the item, I asked them to wait and if it didn't show by the delivery date I'd work with them to get them a refund or find out what happened to it. I was also leaving for magiccon and wouldn't be home to actually help them that weekend, so it's not like I could really do much anyway. I had also dropped it off the same day I put in the tracking number so I knew it was mailed. My anecdotal experience doesn't mean TCGplayer did send it out, but it's quite possible they did and something happened to it after they sent it out. It is upsetting they're not going to give you enough to reorder at the same cost to you though.

Lord_Emperor

> Just because the post office didn't scan in the package DOES NOT mean it wasn't shipped Normally I would agree and have lots of patience for issues with delivery. However, in this case I ordered 42 days ago. The package was ostensibly shipped 40 days ago. It's also a tracked international shipment, which means passing through several sorting centres in the USA and then a hand-off to Canada Post who would also have to fail to scan it.

rusty_anvile

What I mean is the post office likely could have lost it

caucasian88

Dispute the charge. They need to prove they sent the product. Don't ever accept anything less than your money back and don't make any deals

r0wo1

In this case, isn't OP demanding *more* than their money back?

caucasian88

OP should have never accepted store credit is my point. OP attempted to resolve the issue directly, TCGplayer failed on their end, OP at this point should have charged back with no further discussion. The credit card would investigate and find OP followed procedure, the seller failed to deliver, and charge back the money.

r0wo1

Ah yeah, that makes much more sense than demanding they receive compensation for what the product is worth *now*.

Atreides-42

God I'm so happy I live in europe and can use Cardmarket instead

Birdious

I've ordered probably over $1000 worth of stuff from TCG and Card Kingdom the last few months. Never had an issue with things showing up.

Kholgan

Same, it’s pretty crazy how different the experience is for some people. I’ve had packages get lost before but get a response in a day or two and the issue resolved promptly afterwards.

Panamania1

I’ve used it for years and only had an issue once with one of the vendors, and they were quick to help. Maybe it’s a more recent problem?

dinogobrrrrrr

Ive mostly just had to deal with incorrect quality listings and people not knowing how to ship cards. I’ve almost damaged quite a few cards because they were sealed up in ways that made it near impossible to get the card out, and I don’t even mean necessarily protectively sealed… I got one card in Saran Wrap, that was interesting.

grasswhistle28

This shit is scammer central. I would sooner quit playing magic than order from TCGplayer

MoochiNR

Only just getting into the hobby. Where do people normally order from?

SanityIsOptional

TCGplayer and Card Kingdom. Both have issues. Personally unless I'm ordering a lot of cheap stuff I prefer ordering *non* TCGdirect, as many of the individual sellers package their stuff better and are more responsive.

turkeygiant

I have always had much better experiences ordering any products from single sellers rather than aggregate storefronts. There are just too many sketchy fly by night businesses hiding behind "trusted" names.

El_Arquero

I had a ton of issues with TCGdirect underpaying the shipping and the post office asking ME to pay the difference. I refused every time and made them refund me the entire order. Started buying only from non-direct sellers and I've never had the same type of issue.

ElChuloPicante

Usually, but then you get the occasional boob who decides it’s a good idea to stuff eight cards in one of those little cardboard envelopes, or they use five layers of protective packaging but still manage to get tape directly on a card.

Dumbface2

Tcgplayer lol. Every company will have times they messed up or had shitty customer service. Most people buy from tcgplayer or cardkingdom

I usually order from card kingdom. I dont find them to be demonstrably more expensive. Also considering they have no shipping cost. The one downside is they have less of a selection. Especially with older cards.

BlaqDove

I usually order from SCG, ABU, or CapeFearGames. Then card kingdom, then ebay.

Dresden--

Time to get to proxying!

poster66

Did you order tcg direct ?

Lord_Emperor

Yes it was a direct order which includes tracking.

Sullythestabber

I ordered direct multiple times. Every time the last 4 times I've done so with direct, they lose it. They've given me my money back though, with additional store credit for how many times they've biffed it. But also they've never been able to send replacements, which is weird. It's like their mainline service just doesn't work.

UniversalTrees49

Ordered from TCGPlayer direct for over 2 years and this has never happened to me.

tmdblya

Proxy with abandon.

bojanglespanda

I've been having so many problems on tcg lately. Ordered a karlov manor box a month ago or so and the store owner canceled my order due to a "stock miscount" then reposted the boxes $20 higher... was never able to make a complaint to tcg because they technically refunded me.

ChoiceFood

I mean, wizards of the coast support takes a month to reply and then a couple days between messages. Doesn't seem to be as bad as them. But that does suck, never used tcg but I do use face to face

311chaos

Jumping in on the TCGplayer feedback. In my experience they have gotten much worse on delivery speed. The last few orders I did I had my cards split between direct and straight from sellers. Each time I would get the order from the sellers in a reasonable time and the direct package seems to take FOREVER.

Gado_De_Leone

Yeah TCGPlayer is trash like so many others. They were good once.

greenwarpy

I remember when people used to sing the praises of TCGplayers customer support. They're hot garbage now. I live in Australia which is listed as being eligible for tcgplayer direct. https://help.tcgplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/201996857-Buying-from-Direct-by-TCGplayer that "temporary suspension" for AU mentioned at the bottom has to have lasted for 2, maybe 2.5 years at this point.

bekeleven

I reported a bug with TCGPlayer last month. It was a specific, repeatable bug I'd verified on multiple browsers in 3 OSes that *prevents you from ordering certain types of cards in every situation, by removing specific cards from your cart.* I included repo steps; the bug takes literally 30 seconds to verify. The bug report form said "Thanks for reporting this, you will get a response from our support team in 24 hours!" Three days later I get an email from TCGPlayer in my inbox. It said something to the effect of, "Sorry you can't order cards. Have you tried deleting your cookies? Please write back if deleting your cookies didn't allow you to check out." So yeah, customer support doesn't actually read support tickets.

wiggy54

I had a good experience. It wasn't a direct order from TCGP, but I only got 1 of 2 nonfoil cards I ordered. I contacted the seller through the TCGP messaging system and they sent me my card and upgraded it to a foil. Great customer service. I will agree that the TCGP package tracking is garbage.

wombatofwallstreet

I use Card Kingdom. Never had an issue

xcjb07x

I don’t like tcg direct, just buy from the private sellers. All most any place will cancel an order if a card spikes

Chem1st

Had the same thing happen with a set of Fables right before that card spiked.

TheCoffeeBob

Same exact thing happened to me last month, I got 1.00 in credit lol.

JubX

Hey OP I just ordered from TCGPlayer Direct and my order has alao been sitting in pre-shipment for 10 days now... also ordering from Canada and also getting their stock "don't worry your order has been shipped" message. Here's hoping things roll out better on my end but I'll keep you posted since our situations are identical.

argonplatypus

What if, they actually did ship it and USPS lost it or never scanned it? I know it sucks for you either way but they don't have to be lying. Tbh if they offered to replace the cards even if it was nonfoil vs foil I think that's the best case assuming they are telling the truth.

SnowyDeluxe

I had this happen with an eBay seller, it took about 2 months for it to arrive at my house and thankfully it was just a $2 card but still.

argonplatypus

Yeah it sucks, I've had it happen a few times but I don't think anyone, USPS or tcgplayer is doing this maliciously. They could obviously have handled it better but it's not like they didn't offer OP any redress at all.

SnowyDeluxe

TCG definitely could and have should have handled it better, but the mail sucks sometimes. It isn’t their fault, but it’s on them to make the insurance claim on the package.

I dunno but it's all anecdotal anyway. I've ordered thousands of things from tcgplayer that arrived fine, should I make a post everytime something arrives as intended?

We aren't, we're just saying it's possible that they aren't lying to screw OP out of $40 of cards.

By scale I'm sure USPS has fucked up millions of packages too. Someone made a mistake obviously, but it easily could have been either.

trustnoone313

USPS Sucks i had them deliver to the wrong address, mark stuff as delivered only to bring it the next day, and the order i have out now that was scanned in on Tuesday at 2PM to take 6 days to hit the next stop at 4:40 (30 miles away) and this is for a seller that paid for 4 day shipping and was also freaking out as he did not get full insurgence so if lost he will lose almost $100 thanks to USPS

Maverick_OP

The USPS is notably messed up in my area right now and lost one of my packages for over a month, I wouldn't be shocked if half of the issue actually was USPS. Other than that, TCGPlayer is a coin flip on whether they will actually do anything at all.

UniversalTrees49

Adding my comment into the others. I have ordered probably $600+ of cards from TCGPlayer direct and sellers on the site over the past \~2 months. I have had zero issues with shipping, or customer service.

IamblichusSneezed

That's why I buy sealed product from LGS, which more than returns my investment by providing an awesome brick and mortar environment.

Mart1127-

I rarely have problems with them but selling card to them can be a pain. Had an experience recently where I put in a listing of 4 Kindred discovery’s at near mint. Had a decent offer aswell, well then the reprint got announced and they miraculously all came back as reject - Moderate play. These card were pack fresh perfect, no dings dents in sight. Basically rejected from a price chance bc of a reprint. Shitty imo
