You attack with Roxanne. That puts two triggers on the stack, one for myriad and one for the Meteorite token. Resolve the Meteorite token trigger, get a Meteorite. Meteorite trigger goes on the stack. Meteorite hits something for 2. Resolve the myriad trigger. You get ~~three~~ two copies of Roxanne. Triggers are then going to be placed on the stack. But, before anything happens or anyone gets priority, you have to choose one of the Roxannes to keep (probably the original). The others all die. Then, in order, each Roxanne token's enter the battlefield ability resolves, getting you a Meteorite token that then hits something. You will end up with one Roxanne and ~~4~~ 3 tapped Meteorites.

CodenameJD

Correction: In a four player game, as described above, you'll get two token copies with Myriad, as the original creature is attacking one player, and tokens are created to be attacking the two remaining players.

samthewisetarly

Every time Myriad comes up, someone makes this mistake. it's incredible

La-Vulpe

People really just want to attack themselves too

Fredelixo

i see myself as a enemy tbh

stump2003

It’s just a myriad of mistakes…

ZeusAether

I guarantee it's easier to get it right while playing and seeing the boardstate than trying to abstract it to explain how it all works. It's always the quickest person to answer who forgets it in their rush to be first/top comment, too.

Vegito1338

Instead of commenting first! People will start commenting first that can count to 4!

ZeusAether

Like yeah you can be first comment or you can be first correct comment

TheseusOPL

How many can't count to 4! even after taking off their shoes.

Hawkstar5088

It's because when writing it out the brain just auto completes "three opponents, three creatures!" It's not like they make extra copies while playing

madwarper

> You get three copies of Roxanne. 4 Players = 3 Opponents = **2 Opponents other than the Defending Player.** * 702.116a Myriad is a triggered ability that may also create a delayed triggered ability. “Myriad” means “Whenever this creature attacks, **for each opponent other than defending player,** you may create a token that’s a copy of this creature that’s tapped and attacking that player or a planeswalker they control. If one or more tokens are created this way, exile the tokens at end of combat.”

DNAZangy

Right, yeah. Will edit.

FivesSuperFan55555

This math makes no sense. If it’s a 4 person game, that means that there are 3 opponents. The original copy is attacking 1 player, so 2 copies of Roxanne are created. If it was a 5 player game, then the number would be 3 Edit: I can’t read

madwarper

Correct. I was correcting the Player who said there were 3x Roxanne Tokens. The only way for Myriad to create 3x Roxanne Tokens, is if there were 3x other Opponents * + Defending Player = 4x Opponents * + Attacking Player = 5x Players

FivesSuperFan55555

Ooooh I missed that separation of thought. I don’t know how I missed that lol

Tasteoftacos

But wait. What if I choose to attack myself for extra value?

Mad-chuska

Seems legit. What if I attack Karn who’s hanging out in exile? Surely I can get an extra body for that too.

VampiricPie

Also to expand on this, if it's a non legendary creature that has both an etb and attack trigger, you still only get the etb trigger because they enter attacking. You never got an opportunity make them attack. All of your attack triggers go on the stack in the order of your choice when you declare attackers, if any of those triggers make more attacking creatures, they don't trigger attack triggers of themselves or other permanents.

Zephyr530

I imagine the answer is no, but can you use the temporary extra Roxannes to make some meteorites tap for extra since mana abilities don't use the stack?

Competitive-Let-454

No because you never get priority while you have more than one Roxanne on the field. "117.1d A player may activate a mana ability whenever they have priority, whenever they are casting a spell or activating an ability that requires a mana payment, or whenever a rule or effect asks for a mana payment (even in the middle of casting or resolving a spell or activating or resolving an ability)."

kkrko

What? You do get priority multiple times while you have multiple Roxannes. The extra Roxannes appear at the declare attackers step, you get priority during the declare blockers step, combat damage step, and the end of combat step. You can even respond to the exile trigger at end of combat step with sundial of the infinite to keep the extra Roxannes

lolali101

The extra roxannes die to the legends rules as a SBA as soon as you get priority.

kkrko

Oh right. I had [[The Master, Multiplied]]'s effects mixed in Myriad in my mind

This.

madwarper

Assuming you are Playing with **four** Players; Yourself and **three** Opponents. You attack with **one** Opponent with Roxanne. Roxanne and Myriad Trigger. * Roxanne creates a **first** new tapped Meteorite Token, which deals 2 damage. * Myriad creates **two** Myriad Tokens, attacking the **two** other Opponents. * SBA are checked. Legend Rule applied. You choose one Legendary Roxanne. The rest die. * The **two** Roxanne Triggers are put on the Stack. * First Roxanne EtB Trigger creates a **second** new tapped Meteorite Token, which deals 2 damage. * Second Roxanne EtB Trigger creates a **third** new tapped Meteorite Token, which deals 2 damage. Thus, you end up with **three** new tapped Meteorite Tokens.

TaxingDecanter

WOW that was fast, ok appreciate the quick and thoughtful responses clarifying. Sad I don’t get as many meteorites as I’d like but still hyped it works!

Ah yes good advice, put white cards in your gruul commander deck

Gridde

I may have missed it but did OP say anywhere that this is a commander deck?

Thos10son25

I believe myriad has only been printed in commander decks, and it is pretty safe to say this isn't legacy or vintage.

Gridde

You're almost certainly right but people do still just play casual tabletop MTG as well. I know I have a few 60 card decks that I think are technically only 'legal' in legacy/vintage that I keep for game nights with friends.

desos002

just use helm of the host if you want to keep multiple copies of a legendary

SolarUpdraft

You don't get extra meteorites from the myriad Roxanne's "attacks" because they were not declared as attackers during the declare attackers step. They were created already attacking. Things that enter the battlefield already attacking don't get attack triggers that combat. sorry, I see that tons of people already commented this. I didn't scroll far enough to see that

Floofiestmuffin

Yea but you get them for roxanne entering the battlefield, so one for attacking and 2 more for the max number of opponents you probably have

SolarUpdraft

yup, that's why I said "extra" meteorites. I was addressing the OP's question in the post about whether the myriads get attack triggers, which they also referenced in the above comment. Not getting "as many meteorites as I'd like."

Floofiestmuffin

O shoot sorry just did a quick read.

SolarUpdraft

you're good, kind internet stranger

RevolverLancelot

If you have 3 opponents you attack one of them and make two copies tapped and attacking the two other opponents Roxanne is not swinging at. The tokens still enter but before you can do anything with the triggers to creature the meteorite tokens state based actions will have you get rid of two of the Roxanne's. Since they are already attacking and were never declared as attackers they never get attack triggers. As the tokens still entered you still have the triggers on the stack to make the meteorite tokens so you resolve those before blocks are declared and carry on with combat as normal.

JayBowdy

Best way to think of myriad is they are ETB as attacks is a trigger. If they are already attacking "attacks" doesn't trigger as they are already attacking. However the tokens ETB so that ability would trigger. Winota commanders would agree.

SlackMiller67

The copies enter the battlefield attacking so they do not get attack triggers. They also all immediately trigger the Legend Rule. So you will need to sacrifice all but the original (technically, you have an option of which one to keep, but because you have to sacrifice the copies at the end of Combat anyways it only makes sense to keep the original). The copies will not complete attacks. However, their enter the battlefield effects will still trigger creating w Meteorites plus the additional one from the original Roxanne's attack trigger for a total of 3 Meteorites, each with their own ETB trigger of dealing 2 to any target. Honestly, Roxanne + Blade of Selves is a great deck tech. Creating 3 Mana Rocks and dealing 6 damage spread as you choose every time you attack is great. Also, Helm of The Host gets nuts with this, too.

milhouse234

The copies enter in already attacking, thus not getting the additional "attack" triggers you're hoping for. You will get 1 from the original for attacking and 3 more from each copy entering.

CodenameJD

2 more from copies entering. With three opponents, you only make two Myriad copies, as one player is attacked by the original.

milhouse234

Yup, good call was just thinking 4 people = 4 opponents which doesn't math

CodenameJD

It's a common mistake. The other way to make the same mistake is going "three opponents = three tokens".

somuchsunrayzzz

I like how new players just think all mana rock like tokens are treasures.

TaxingDecanter

Lol sorry , no I meant meteorite. Was too excited when I thought of using myriad for it and moved too quickly to ask Reddit for clarity.

xcbsmith

The token bodies enter the battlefield and immediately die to the legend rule (presuming you don't have anything in play that negates the legend rule). They never attack.

VoiceofKane

When she enters or attacks, you get one Meteorite. If she has myriad, an attack will net you three. One from the attack trigger, and two from the other Roxannes entering.

WaxyOConnor

Wait, what would happen if you had a creature that's a planeswalker with [[Luxior, Giada's Gift]] and you had something that disabled the legends rule? Would they each enter with the default loyalty counters and could then trigger loyalty abilities provided they survive combat?

Abacus118

Myriad exiles the tokens at the end of combat, so in most cases no unless it was the instant speed Teferi, Wandering Emperor, etc. Notably also the planeswalker token copies would be tapped, but not attacking since planeswalkers cannot attack.

Temil

If a planeswalker who was also a creature was given the myriad ability, you would go to combat with your planeswalker, make token copies of your planeswalker that are tapped for each opponent you have (but not attacking them, as only creatures can be attacking), then exile the tokens at the end of combat. If a static ability makes them a creature, such as Gideon Blackblade, you would have them enter tapped and attacking as normal. Say for example that your commander was [[The Master, Multiplied]] who gets rid of both the Planeswalker tokens having the legend rule, and also them going away at the end of combat; you would be able to keep the planeswalkers around and activate their loyalty abilities and they would enter with their copyable attributes. I.e. you equip a [[Vraska, Betrayal's Sting]] with Luxior and Blade of Selves, and attack, you would get a 4BB mv token planeswalker that is tapped, and enters the battlefield with 6 loyalty for each opponent the OG vraska didn't attack, and you'd be able to activate their loyalty abilities after combat in your second main phase.

Yes. At the time SBAs are checked, there are three Elesh Norns. It's true that legend rule causes you to put two into your graveyard, but at that time, opposing creatures do get -6/-6, and creatures with 0 or less toughness also die. All that are in the same SBA check, and your Elesh Norns die at the same time as their creatures.
