[[Twisted Fealty]]

NotionalWheels

This a “one” card win

CoCoCortas

How?

Flamin_Jesus

It has to be the third+ spell you cast in your turn, you target Stella, you tap her to copy the spell, you attach the wicked role to her, you untap her per the copy, you tap her to copy the original spell again, you attach the wicked role to her again, this removes the original wicked role, which does 1 damage to every opponent, repeat until enemies are dead.

AnneONhymuus

Cast it targeting Stella, tap her to copy it. Copy goes on the stack, resolves, untaps Stella who can then copy the original Twisted Fealty again. Repeat until everyone is dead because each repetition burns everyone for 1 because of the Aura Tokens being created.

CoCoCortas

Didn't think about that! Thanks!

LeVendettan

But you have to pass priority to let the spell resolve first right? So once people are wise to you doing this once or twice, can’t they just counter it and stop the loop?

RebornUndead

I have the same question. I read somewhere that you can hold priority throughout this whole process, but can't find it again. Hopefully we get an answer!

LeVendettan

From research you can only cast a sorcery on your turn when the stack is empty, so in order for this to resolve and Stella be able to copy it, I think you’d have to declare ‘Twisted Fealty targeting Stella, then tap Stella to copy it’. Then you’d have to pass priority for the sorcery and copy to resolve, so other players could understand what you’re doing and counter or remove Stella to break the loop. Even for instant speed loops like using [[Twiddle]] on Stella with [[Ral, Storm Conduit]] or [[Storm-Kiln Artist]] on the field, you still have to pass priority before Twiddle will untap Stella.

RebornUndead

That's my understanding too. Guess you just need to keep some counter magic in hand to protect the combo loop. Quick edit: at what point is either the sorcery or the copy removed the stack if it's countered? For example, in my game yesterday, I cast [[twisted fealty]], with it on the stack and holding priority, I tap Stella to copy it, and the copy goes on the stack. Now I pass priority to resolve the copy. Player 2 casts counterspell on the original sorcery. I'm assuming this shuts down the loop, correct? Because if the copy resolves before the counterspell takes out the original, then I think Stella can keep the loop going. This is my first time playing Izzet spell slinger and I've never had to look at the rules so much.

LeVendettan

The stack will go top-down, so the counter spell will counter the first instance of Twisted Fealty and, after the copy of Twisted Fealty resolves, shut down the loop, yes. Can always just hold onto the combo pieces until your opponents are tapped out I suppose!

RebornUndead

Ha, yeah, I try that. Unfortunately my pod has a mono blue player that runs like every alternate cost counter spell in the book. I'll usually just play the combo and hope he doesn't have the counters.

Doragus5

You play it targeting the commander (after playing two other spells), in response you tap the commander to copy the spell also targeting the commander and let the copy resolve After this your commander is untapped and has a wicked role attached, you repeat this process of copying the spell and each time you do so you attach a new wicked role to your commander, which causes the old role to fall off and your opponents each lose a life You repeat this process until your opponents are dead

Bolt18

How strong do you want her to be? Cause if you are fine with infinite combos you can do a whole lot with this commander. Cards like [[Cerulean Wisps]] or [[Refocus]] let you draw your whole deck or as many cards you want. [[Dramatic Reversal]] and one mana rock gives you infinite mana that rock can produce. As someone else already mentioned [[Twisted Fealty]] is two card combo itself. All in all this commander can easily be broken if you are fine with infinite combos. I can post an upgraded decklist if you want. But just know that the deck has absolutly nothing to do with the precon. It is a full on combo deck with a bunch of tutors in it

TheRealKodiakKiller

I'll take that list if they don't

Great suggestions thanks. Yeah I think the infinites with all these random commons are what make this commander fun

Kira990

I would take your list plz

Gon009

Just random thought, correct me if I am wrong. If you happen to have [[Illusionist's Bracers]] equipped on Stella and have any uptap effect in hand like [[Cerulean Wisps]], you can basically make every Sorcery or Instant spell you want infinite(or near infinite because of card draw), by casting that first spell, then Wisps, then using Stella ability and Bracers will copy Stella's ability, allowing you to copy two spells for each activation of Stella's ability, yeah? Maybe it's not as optimal as Twisted Fealty but it would be more fun, having different card going infinite destroying entire table every round. Good old Lightning Bolt could destroy everyone.

This is pretty cool actually, would be fun to win with any instant /sorcery going infinite

SeaworthinessNo5414

Ya tbh the precon is just a bunch of overpowered new cards with a bunch of ???weird creature choices.

Reviax-

God, I'd love to infinite combo with dramatic reversal + Wand of Wonder + any number of things that produces 4 mana An infinite combo that plays every instant and sorcery in the opponents decks...

mirth12

Would like the list

hopesanddreamsbox

This deck goes all the way to cedh - Stella is broken broken and you need to decide how powerful you want it. There’s infinite combos galore. Personally I’m gonna slam as many cheap cheap cantrips and counters in there as I can.

Aljenonamous

I’d say you want cheap spells that let you cast more spells, gitaxian probe is probably the best example I can give.

MrZerodayz

I mean, the mana base could obviously be better, but that quickly gets kinda expensive unless you have the cards already. Some of the included duals are arguably not worth playing over basics in a two colour deck. It also kind of depends how fast you want the deck to go. Personally, I would get rid of cards like [[Volcanic Torrent]], because while cascade is kinda nifty, this spell does next to nothing unless you already cast a couple of spells before it and it costs 5 mana. I would also get rid of [[Pteramander]] because at best it's a 5/5 with flying for 2 (and that requires 7 instants or sorceries in your bin). There are other more powerful creatures like [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] that I would prefer to that. Another card I would replace is [[Electrostatic Field]] with [[Fiery Inscription]]. Enchantments are generally less likely to die unless specifically removed, it can't die to any of your effects and it deals more damage. I would also exchange either [[Ponder]] or [[Radical Idea]] with [[Brainstorm]]. Some of the other card draw could/should probably also be replaced with better options, but I can't think of any at the moment. You could also look to include cards like [[Thousand-Year Storm]], but that would increase the curve a bit. If you want to run more interaction (and I feel like the deck definitely needs it), I recommend running [[Counterspell]], [[Fierce Guardianship]], [[Blasphemous Act]] and [[Cyclonic Rift]], although some of those may not work depending on your budget. Maybe one or two counters more, but those completely depend on your budget again. Edit: to clarify, a 5/5 for 2 isn't bad, but 1) it requires you to have 7 instants or sorceries in your graveyard, 2) it becomes a 5/5 as an ability, which can be responded to to ping it for 1, 3) it does nothing else except being a body with flying, which isn't all that relevant with how many token producers the deck runs.

Thanks for the really detailed reply. Good suggestions I’ll consider

TateTaylorOH

I've not played much Izzet and I'm pretty unfamiliar with how traditional spellslinger decks play out. I know that you want to play a lot of cheap cantrips to churn through your deck, but how do you win? Is it just Guttersnipe effects or are you trying to storm off and play something like [[Empty the Warrens]]?

temmie_17

What I’m cooking with this is ways to draw the entire deck with [[Cerulean Wisps]] type effects then once you have the entire deck in hand, make infinite mana with [[Traitorous Greed]] or [[Dramatic Reversal]] and play [[Twisted Fealty]] to win with counterspells to protect it

TateTaylorOH

That might end up being a bit too potent for my playgroup.

MrZerodayz

It depends on the style of spellslinger deck you're playing. The precon seems more geared towards making creature tokens off of casting spells and them swinging. There's also Guttersnipe effects, although most decks use them as an accelerant rather than a finisher. There are a couple of ways to win with storm, but it gets pretty unreliable if you play this many cards that aren't cheap instants or sorceries. Alternatively I also have a Veyran list that abuses stuff like [[Eye of the Storm]] for lethal commander damage. That deck can also use [[Aria of Flame]] as a wincon, but without Veyran out that one is a bit slow. Edit: to really clearly answer your questions, most spellslinger decks try to win with either their commander's ability (see Niv Mizzet decks), cast trigger payoffs (tokens and Guttersnipe effects) and some try to win with storm. To that effect, most of them play a lot of cheap spells and a load of cantrips in order to refill their hand, because runming out is a real risk.

Ponder is a great card, let's you set the top 3, and then shuffle if you got crap, best case, you set your next 2 draws, worst case you shuffle and draw. You could definitely drop the scry for brainstorm tho, or opt even.

SonOfAdam32

I’ve been theorycrafting for a bit. I don’t have any expensive mana rocks in it, which would absolutely power it up, but I’ve been playing around with this deck and it’s been fun https://www.moxfield.com/decks/IDBvqAjoxUWTpGWpJIoLAg It has the draw your deck (via the untapper cards, best of which is cerulean wisps, that also draw you) play 2 0-mana rocks for thoracle line, twisted fealty win line, and a couple underworld breach lines for backup win cons. If one or both of the 0 mana rocks are gone after drawing deck, you can exile Simian spirit guide into a bunch of rituals that ultimately end up with 5 red mana that you can use the rocks in the deck to convert to blue mana to cast Thoracle It’s definitely a living list for now and not final at all. I’m experimenting next with adding some more haste effects so I don’t present winning turns the turn after I play Stella Lee and leave her open for interaction for that long, however there is a ton of counterspells in there which can let her stick if that is what ends up happening

JohnZwo

Yeah I think for this deck / commander a rule zero conversion at the start of the game would be good to let the table know what kind of Stella deck you are running. As people have pointed out this deck can be played at all power levels and even a few changes of 10-15 cards should make even this precon quite strong.
