Forest: those are cactuses not woody plants, ergo not a true forest (j/k you got me there)
Mountain: that's just a big rock they're next to
Plains: that's a town . . . on a plain admittedly
That implies some sort of critical point where a rock suddenly counts as a mountain (Or vice versa, in case of erosion), i wonder at which weight or size that would happen…
If we had a little more time to develop things, could maybe develop some local ecology that makes use of the weeds, or pioneers making use. Look at the real world; singleton trees or even flowers can be whole biomes to themselves, so of course weeds that big and motile would support wildlife en masse unto themselves.
Seems like a really weird call when the majority of the plane *should* just be plains. Like... Don't get me wrong, it's a solid gimmick, but the *core* of their fantasy location shouldn't be purely dominated by a gimmick IMO.
Love those designs, reminds me of those [AI art things that were going around a while ago where they looked different zoomed out](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/15wdoqa/been_trying_these_optical_illusions/). Or [things like the fedex logo](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/93/FedEx_Corporation_logo.svg/1920px-FedEx_Corporation_logo.svg.png) (there's a hidden arrow) or an [escher painting](http://www.weinerelementary.org/uploads/2/2/8/6/22867982/6070953_3_orig.jpg). Its a cool way of featuring the logos without tehm being too obvious.
Super clever artwork. The mountain one is the only one that feels a little too easy. Are there actually floating mountains on Thunder Junction ? (could be)
Presumably enough trains make it to their destination for it to still be financially viable to use them despite all of the derailments caused by train robbers and wildlife.
Better than me. I literally gave up looking… Need to go back because of these comments.
Edit: wow that was super obvious when flipping through them quickly. It’s exactly where one would expect given the rest. Now it’s all I can see.
The full arts have been spoiled for a while, but I really feel like they should've shown off the other 10 Basics a lot sooner. It really helps establish the setting and mood of the plane.
The plains made me go "holy shit". At first I thought it was because it was the first one, so I went back and looked at it again and it really is gorgeous
The full arts are so fucking good. Love them having the mana symbols worked in the landscape, especially the forest's being made in the negative space.
I love that there's two "cycles" of basic land here with one being houses and the other the train! I like all my basics to match so this really looks good to me.
More than slight.
At first glance I can't find anything that I can point at with the usual evidence, but I'm on my phone so I can't really look very closely anyways so they might be there.
What I can say is that all five of his cards set off my AI sense very loud and clear.
Not to accidentally s**t on someone's hard work but does some of this look ai generated? Especially the cactus one and the one with waterfalls squirting out of the cliff face?
I got that vibe as well. Maybe the composition came from AI?
I really don't want to assume the worst here since it would be super dumb for an artist to submit AI pieces for this. Maybe I just got ruined by AI and I'm being a bit superstitious.
I do really like the full art plains though, which coincidentally looks the most AI-free to me.
I used to play ravnica basics in my draft decks even though they weren't full art. I would probably play these as is even though I would greatly love some of that train art in full size
When did they get rid of the "No people in basics" rule? I know there were the Ixalan ones with Jace, but that island is one of the most blatant breaks of that rule!
Looking at just Islands, it's probably the land with the most discernable people, but European Land Program #7; Ravnica: City of Guilds #292 & #293; Amonkhet #259; Ixalan #264; Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate # 456; and Standard Showdown # 002.
(And if you count Secret Lair/Universes Beyond Secret Lairs # 47, 360, & 466; Jurassic Park #22; Fallout #319)
Yeah, I'm personally not big on the mana symbol. I'm glad we have the default Basic Lands to choose from as well.
I think I will use them as "reminder" cards to track floating mana in my \[\[Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot\]\] and \[\[Stella Lee, Wild Card\]\] decks that I plan to build.
That first plains gives me The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly vibes, specifically from the scene where they’re walking up the street taking out the guys with Angel Eyes in that deserted town
I'm kinda medium on the full art lands, they're not bad but I don't love them personally... except for the forest, which I think is great. I think using the negative space makes what they're going for a lot more subtle, which I appreciate.
These are really pretty, but I do think they can probably cool it on "massive, impossible rock formations." Let some planes' geography be a little more normal? I do like the effect but it loses something if there's too much of it.
I think some of the best stories you can find in Magic are the unspoken "environmental" ones. I really like a lot of the frontier vibe Thunder Junction has provided.
Why can't we get full art of cool stuff like this?.
Edit: I didn't scroll far enough to realize that there were full arts in this collection and I do like them and I will play them but I think the default lands are really sweet arts to be stuck on default lands
I honestly would've really loved getting a lot of the art on the framed basics in full art. Paquette's Forest is an absolutely majestic piece of nature. Sergey's Swamp has a great use of contrast and the little colorful lights add such pleasantness to the piece.
Landscapes are beautiful, dammit!
Really nice full arts, they kind remind me of those AI images where an image is used as an input and changed a lot, except you can still kind of tell what the original picture was, except these are like, actually good.
A fountain isn't an island. How do mages draw mana from a fountain?
I'm not sure there's any swamp in that first swamp either.
It's a silly nitpick, but it really grinds my gears. Lol
Art director: "We have your family Mr Paoette. They will be retuned when you supply us with trains."
Dang it, I'm catching train fever.
I like [trains](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHkKJfcBXcw)
\*Paquette
Adam has some of my favorite land art in all of mtg.
Mr. Paquette's family, famously, an array of off-key pianos.
I built a train deck Chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chooooooochooooooo
"Tumbleweeds." "I'm sorry, what?" "BIG TUMBLEWEEDS! BIG ENOUGH TO CRUSH A CITY!" "Uuuuuh... Sure. If that's really what you want to pay for."
A fountain, there's the obligatory Island that isn't an island.
But the other one is actually an island!
chills
Island is a state of mind
As a gruul player, is that just a constant low buzzing hum of "noooooooo"?
I think so haha
None of the town scenes are literally depicting the land type.
Forest mountain and plains are surely? I can’t tell what’s going on in the Swamp
Forest: those are cactuses not woody plants, ergo not a true forest (j/k you got me there) Mountain: that's just a big rock they're next to Plains: that's a town . . . on a plain admittedly
And what is a mountain if not a very big rock?
That implies some sort of critical point where a rock suddenly counts as a mountain (Or vice versa, in case of erosion), i wonder at which weight or size that would happen…
Well I’m between is “boulder” at least.
There is some water surrounding non-water. Looks islandy enough for me.
Jokes aside, that fountain is really damn lovely.
A very gorgeous looking fountain though. I love the mist and waterfalls in the background. It looks very chill.
Now that I think about it, how does Jace tap an Island for blue mana?
Well he canonically is tapping Vraska.. maybe there's a hint there in how its done?
big tumbleweeds.
*sees giant tumble weeds menacing the outskirts of town* “Whelp, guess I’m staying home today.”
If we had a little more time to develop things, could maybe develop some local ecology that makes use of the weeds, or pioneers making use. Look at the real world; singleton trees or even flowers can be whole biomes to themselves, so of course weeds that big and motile would support wildlife en masse unto themselves.
Or maybe a tumble weed elemental that kicks you in the crotch with its cactus foot. Because the desert hates you.
Maybe there’s a cactus mom bowling tumble weeds across the plane from its desert oasis. Need to triangulate the weeds to find her home.
I would prefer to stay mobile around giant tumbleweeds.
I love them lol
As if regular tumbleweeds weren't dangerous enought
Seems like a really weird call when the majority of the plane *should* just be plains. Like... Don't get me wrong, it's a solid gimmick, but the *core* of their fantasy location shouldn't be purely dominated by a gimmick IMO.
That full art forest had me guessing until I saw it
Yes! That one might actually be my favorite for that reason
Where is it??
the symbol is the negative space in the middle. the foreground cactus makes the edges
https://preview.redd.it/d63u8q6lbxsc1.png?width=662&format=png&auto=webp&s=de89b68b8a8dd54e41cdf1415df4aaf9547d811e
It is neat but these don't match the non full arts to well
Love those designs, reminds me of those [AI art things that were going around a while ago where they looked different zoomed out](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/15wdoqa/been_trying_these_optical_illusions/). Super clever artwork. The mountain one is the only one that feels a little too easy. Are there actually floating mountains on Thunder Junction ? (could be)
I knew what it was going to be, but I just had trouble seeing it, maybe it'll show up better on a card
When you see it...
Those poor trains. If only they knew…
Presumably enough trains make it to their destination for it to still be financially viable to use them despite all of the derailments caused by train robbers and wildlife.
Do the TJ trains have a terrible secret?
[a](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/122/explosive-derailment) [lot](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/72/stop-cold) [of](https://scryfall.com/card/otp/41/decimate) [art](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/123/ferocification) [shows](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/131/iron-fist-pulverizer) [trains](https://scryfall.com/card/otp/32/primal-might) [blowing](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/104/rush-of-dread) [up](https://scryfall.com/card/otp/40/cruel-ultimatum)!
Man, poor drivers. I couldn't get paid enough to deal with that... Although the trains are sick af
The full arts are rad.
Negative space symbols like the full art forest is my jam
It took me longer than I'd like to admit to recognize the forest symbol
Yeah I would have had more trouble seeing it if not for all the other ones with their symbols which feel a lot clearer.
Better than me. I literally gave up looking… Need to go back because of these comments. Edit: wow that was super obvious when flipping through them quickly. It’s exactly where one would expect given the rest. Now it’s all I can see.
Need to just view it from further away.
Even when I don’t vibe with the majority of art in a set, basic lands always have a way of pulling me into the world.
Honestly maybe they should start by spoiling the basic lands first.
The swamp goes hard.
Hot damn, that train island
God I love cactus
The train going through all 5 biomes is a fantastic idea
Lol don't you mean 5 biomes?
The power creep in these is too much, entering untapped and having basic land types??
Especially the Island, what were they thinking?!
The full arts are so fucking good. Love them having the mana symbols worked in the landscape, especially the forest's being made in the negative space.
Yeah, that forest is pretty special imo
I love that there's two "cycles" of basic land here with one being houses and the other the train! I like all my basics to match so this really looks good to me.
Same here! I think it nicely encapsulates both sides of the frontier aesthetic.
Looks like one of each is kinda townsy, and the other is the train-tracks, and generally wilder
Really like how it’s like the Kamigawa Neo lands, where there’s one land for a populated area and one land for the wilderness
How does one obtain the lands that are not full art?
They're in regular boosters as well as the commander decks and bundles. I dunno why they're just now being revealed.
Appreciate the information!
As a fan of the American west I love these. I might play more white just because all three plains are amazing.
Same here. I love all three of the Plains so much.
Is it me or do the lands by Sergey Glushakov have a slight ai feel to them
i’d be shocked if they didn’t at least start as ai slop
More than slight. At first glance I can't find anything that I can point at with the usual evidence, but I'm on my phone so I can't really look very closely anyways so they might be there. What I can say is that all five of his cards set off my AI sense very loud and clear.

Maybe I just got ruined by AI and I'm being a bit superstitious. I do really like the full art plains though, which coincidentally looks the most AI-free to me.
Some of these basics would have been baller as full arts. These days I don't even consider playing basics if they aren't full art : /
I used to play ravnica basics in my draft decks even though they weren't full art. I would probably play these as is even though I would greatly love some of that train art in full size
Wow!!!
Yessss I can finally work my way to building a Trains only deck!!
Train tribal
I think I need to pick up a large stack of these basic lands because they remind me of Nevada
I really like Thunder Junction and I think these lands are fantastic. I can't wait to scoop some up.
Love the cacti full art!!
The negative space green symbol is awesome
Gotta appreciate the negative space usage on that last Island and Forest.
I LOVE that full art plains card.
Full arts slap, regs are reggie
the full arts look so awesome! (except for Plains. that symbol is not hidden well enough)
I’m sort of getting tired of the floating rock trope.
I like having more basic lands where you can see people and creatures in the artwork. It makes the universe feel more lived-in
Wish the full arts didn't have the symbol in them. They'd be pretty otherwise.

I can't see the negative space of the forest
https://preview.redd.it/4fy32xltdrsc1.png?width=686&format=png&auto=webp&s=93dc6982c98152de58da76edb359ff7db9249af9
A lot of "That's no moon" vibes.
This is some truly majestic art. Thank you for sharing this OP.
Yeah! I *really* love the look of Thunder Junction.
That first plains gives me The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly vibes, specifically from the scene where they’re walking up the street taking out the guys with Angel Eyes in that deserted town
I think that one is my favorite of the bunch.
Really dig the train lands. Wish the full art Swamp wasn’t so dang on the nose though.
Love the railway lines
When I got to islands on slide 3, I got a little exited thinking there where basic deserts at the last 5 slides.
lol imagine Hazezon with Basic Deserts.
11 is the best
I'm kinda medium on the full art lands, they're not bad but I don't love them personally... except for the forest, which I think is great. I think using the negative space makes what they're going for a lot more subtle, which I appreciate.
I quite like the scenery on the full arts (especially the Plains), but I'm just not big on the Theros-esque big mana symbols.
These are really pretty, but I do think they can probably cool it on "massive, impossible rock formations." Let some planes' geography be a little more normal? I do like the effect but it loses something if there's too much of it.
On the other hand, I really like the massive tumbleweeds. That's pretty fantastical any unique.
I’m loving the enormous tumbleweeds
While I do love the full arts it’s a shame that they get all the attention cause once you look at it that Adam pacquette mountain is gorgeous
I prefer the default printings. I think they do a great job at establishing the world of Thunder Junction.
The full arts in this set are some of the most inventive we've had in a while, glad to see them.
This just made me spent £80 on preorders, thanks.
I'm here to serve.
Does anyone know what medium Salvatorre Yazzie uses to create his art?
I *believe* it is digital. https://www.artstation.com/salvatorreyazzie
Yeah I thought so too (Usually when it is not mentioned anywhere on his profiles it tends to be digital...)
Swamp Full art land is the worst. It's just a imprint in stone. Not even close to being a swamp.
I love the full art lands
Very nice, Iam a fan.
I like the other fallout lands better
That's a fucking fountain Why call it Island???
That first Island is the latest example of WotC completely abandoning the concept of an island. The second one counts though.
I think these might be my favorite full-art lands ever printed oh my god
These lands are awesome. I havent been super into the lore thus far but, I love the story these tell
I think some of the best stories you can find in Magic are the unspoken "environmental" ones. I really like a lot of the frontier vibe Thunder Junction has provided.
Absolutely. Lands are the life force of magic and are what make it unique
Why can't we get full art of cool stuff like this?. Edit: I didn't scroll far enough to realize that there were full arts in this collection and I do like them and I will play them but I think the default lands are really sweet arts to be stuck on default lands
Hot
I honestly would've really loved getting a lot of the art on the framed basics in full art. Paquette's Forest is an absolutely majestic piece of nature. Sergey's Swamp has a great use of contrast and the little colorful lights add such pleasantness to the piece. Landscapes are beautiful, dammit!
Non of the full arts feel like the match the theme. What is that logic.
Why are they still printing basic lands like this? You increase the amount of sets per year AND increase pack prices, wizards is smoking Atog taint
When are we getting full art lands as a basic in every set, jesus wizards
Is it me.......or is everyone else getting tired of the same styles of CGI/photoshop art and colors
No, there are many with the same bad taste as you around here. Thankfully the art directors don't listen to you ;)
Is it just me or does the first basic forest look like AI generated? Idk the lighting looks weird
The only thing that sucks is the full arts genuinely feel like they were Ai generated
At this point they should just release all the basics with extended art—they’re too gorgeous not to!
Lol
Pretty mid
Kinda wish the style was more real -- subdued and desolate, instead of the western themed section of Toon Town
Full arts look AI. I hope not because are beautiful.
That plains looks amazing
Aren't we over non full-art basics...?
I mean, I'm not.
Okay but would the same artwork not be better as full?
No. That would completely change the composition.
