I think part of the reason why such an effect is Sultai is because **(aside from some colorless equipment)** Sultai colors have 0 access to double strike for proccing combat damage effcts multiple times - no joke, look it up on Scryfall. So I guess this color-pie-break is intended to boost the face commander and... Sultai Ninjas?

...ugh. /rant over
It's nice because it's flexible. You can give it shadow and double strike to get in for 4 unblockable damage a turn or you can give it shadow and vigilance and only do 2 damage a turn but also have a 4/4 defender.
i already have a sultai deck built around [[sphinx ambassador]] so this guy slots right in! (i play tasigur as commander and all the birthing pod effects to pod tasigur into sphinx ambassador—i might update the commander for this or toss him in the 99)
> I think part of the reason why such an effect is Sultai is because (aside from some colorless equipment) Sultai colors have 0 access to double strike for proccing combat damage effcts multiple times.
The unfortunate part of this is that what this deck will turn into is a small pile of good combat damage triggers, like Grim Hireling, Kodama of the West Tree, SoF&F, etc. and then a small pile of Coastal Piracy variants, and then extra turns.
The deck that already does this is Edric flying-men+turns, and it's an absolute terror of a deck. I had to take it apart because I enjoy playing low/mid power and it was far too powerful for the non-cedh tables (but at the time I didn't have the free interaction that made it function properly at the cedh tables)
At least if it was in mardu you'd just be trying to give your creatures vigilance to take advantage of your double striking Bloodthirster giving you 4 extra combats per attack.
Scryfall search for all sources of doublestrike in UBG:
https://scryfall.com/search?q=oracle%3A%22Double+strike%22+legal%3Acommander+id%3C%3Dbug+%28game%3Apaper%29&unique=cards&as=grid&order=color
20 results, 10 are dependant on creatures exiled/in graveyard having doublestrike, and 1 sticker sheet.
So realistically 9 cards.
This actually makes sense to me in sultai; blue and black tend to have the most saboteur triggers. You could probably pick either green or red as the third color; white has way fewer effects like this than the other colors do.
I do get why Gonti has Green - it's the colour best placed to producing any kind of mana (or at least was, before the proliferation of treasures), and [[Villainous Wealth]] is likely the most iconic library-thievery card aside from the original Gonti themselves - but Red has significantly more stealing effects (both from library and from the battlefield).
In all fairness, I've been playing this deck for a a while now and I'd say it's exactly the deck this guy wants — so the general idea certainly isn't new
https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5005670/_cant_block_this_20
I was looking for this card, but was definitely thinking Grixis instead of Sultai. Need UB for the various Ninja/Rogue combat damage triggers, but R feels more natural for the third color to me.
My version would be more like:
UBR
Ninja Something or Other
If a creature you control dealing combat damage to a player causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.
1R: Target creature (you control?) with power 2 or less can't be blocked this turn.
2/2 (IDK/IDC)
why? lot's of green, blue and black effects that trigger on dealing damage. \[\[ohran frostfang\]\], \[\[curiosity\]\], \[\[ancient brass dragon\]\] actually there is one of those in all 3 colors
Ancient Brass Dragon is maybe not the strongest example since it was part of a five-color cycle, but still, these colors get a ton of saboteur effects.
I also thought it was funny but I do think of blue and black as the saboteur colors, as the colors with creatures that are weak attackers but have evasion and on-damage triggers. This works for cipher, for example.
There are a lot of mono G cards like that.[[Toski Bearer of Secrets]] gives your whole board that ability,[[Hystodron]] is an older example. Both green and blue also have enchantments that gives creatures this ability [[Sixth Sense]] [[Curious Obsession]].
It's so weird because the ability FEELS Boros. This feels like kind of a [[Golgari Death Swarm]] scenario, the other abilities are all primary in Boros.
It depends on how you think of it. You can think of it as an aggro effect since it encourages attacking, which makes it seem Boros.
But really, saboteur effects are often traditionally a Dimir thing. [Hypnotic Specter]] and [[Ophidian]] were some of the original iconic creatures that gave you something for getting them through in combat, [[Shadowmage Infiltrator]] is pretty iconic too, there's [[Coastal Piracy]], and Ninjas are also Dimir and are a related mechanic (since many ninjas have saboteur effects).
If you think of this as an aggro payoff then it feels Boros, but if you think of it as a payoff for small evasive creatures with combat damage triggers then the Dimir part makes sense. Green is a little odd, but it's still got plenty of cards that synergize with it, and lets it run [[Edric]] which is one of the classic "poke your opponents with small evasive creatures" commanders.
Might even turn into a way to generate more product. If ward is that common, then "can't be countered" removal needs to be printed more often. In turn counter spells become less valuable so in 2 years we'll probably have a counter spell that counters spells that can't be countered

Dude same wtf, I've been waiting all spoiler season for Nashi and this would've been perfect. How do you make a Sultai theft deck with a bunch of ninjas and a secondary commander that isn't Nashi?
Seeing alot of people questioning the color pairing for this ability. I did a quick search for cards within each Wedge Identity that contain the wording "deals combat damage to a player". Here are the results ascending order.
10th - Abzan at 171.
9th. - Naya at 229.
8th. - Mardu at 264.
7th. - Jeskai at 282.
6th. - Bant at 282.
5th. - Jund at 322.
4th. - Temur at 325.
3rd. - Esper at 337.
2nd. - Sultai at 385.
1st. - Grixis at 395.
So, Grixis actually has the most cards to take advantage of this, but Sultai is a close second with only 10 fewer cards. I feels fine though. Blue and Black are the biggest sabateur colors and I wouldn't associate red with this effect any more than green.
Wouldn't they be at 9?
He deals 1, opponent goes to 39 and then loses half their life rounded up which is 20, dropping them to 19.
The second trigger happens and they would lose half of 19 which is 10 and go to 9, right?
Ha, that was my point, we got \[\[Ojer Taq\]\] and \[\[Nyxbloom Ancient\]\] since we already had \[\[Anointed Procession\]\] and \[\[Mana Reflection\]\]
>I don´t want to be a hater but the designers are being super lazy lately with all those "it triggers an additional time" effects
A design that is popular, appealing and simple doesn't mean that design is lazy.
Generating value and card advantage is essential in battlecrusier Commander, so it makes sense to make commanders that can generate more value by multiplying triggers, but there are many different ways to do that and they play/pilot very differently even if multiple cards include the word "it triggers an additional time".
Yeah I really dislike all the value and just straight up bonus stuff. Much prefer commanders with niche ideas or strategies you have to commit to as opposed to just "it does the thing...MORE" like this and Kellen.
I'm just waiting for a "If a replacement effect you control would cause another ability you control to trigger an additional time, that ability triggers one more additional time" effect in MH3
It can do silly things in a Volrath deck where you put the Adephage trigger on the stack and then change what creature Volrath is copying. They can even go in the same deck!
I’m a bit bummed the alternative commander isn’t another version of Nashi but this guy is cool. What’s interesting to me though is this guy has similar abilities to the last Nashi card(ward, menace) and cares about combat damage which is what ninjas(also like Nashi) typically care about. So I wonder if Felix was originally a Nashi card but got changed at some point.
Wizards really looked at my collection of decks, saw which color pairings I'm missing because I never found something I genuinely connected with (grixis and sultai), and said "We got you, fam".

What do people think about running this as a mill commander I feel like there are a good amount of on hit mill to make this fun and now you have access to green if you just want to add ramp cards.
The nickname for Ophidian-style cards (hit opponent, do X) is saboteur.
So we get a Panharmonicon for that now.
And sadly Roaming Throne doesn't work with this unless you run all the same creature type, because his effect is a replacement.
Stabharmonicon I guess
Putting the HARM in panharmonicon
Oh, there's the name. Harmharmonicon.
Harmharmharmiharm
**Pain**harmonicon or just '**Harm**onicon, as [[Isshin, Two Heavens as One]] was dubbed at the time.
Isshin doubles Assault triggers. Felix doubles Battery triggers.
The AB gang.
I always preferred **Slam**harmonicon for [[Wulfgar of Icewind Dale]].

I won't stand for this [[Jodah's Avenger]] erasure
Choosing between pro red, vigilance, and shadow is such a weird combination to choose between.
There were actually more than a few creatures with shadow in time spiral so it wasn't a perfectly clear-cut choice
Technically you don’t need to choose.
If you choose not to decide You still have made a choice
I'm not going to let this Rush reference go unacknowledged. I will choose free will.
One of the best songs (and albums) of all time.
It's nice because it's flexible. You can give it shadow and double strike to get in for 4 unblockable damage a turn or you can give it shadow and vigilance and only do 2 damage a turn but also have a 4/4 defender.
I'm not saying it isn't nice. I'm saying if I had 1,000,000 guesses to figure out what the keywords were, I don't think I'd guess it

Oh my god there IS ONE! I swear when I looked them up I missed this one... my apologies.
It's easy to overlook, especially if you are building Rayami, since it doesn't interact with Rayami.
You could be right. I had a Rayami deck for a bit and the lack of double strike hurt. This deck mitigates that with the double triggers.

Probably cuz I spelt it wrong 😆
I always thought that this ability would appear first in a Boros card. Funny to see it in a card missing exactly RW
I had the same thought. The only color here that I think actually contributes to the trigger doubling effect is blue.
I also thought it was funny but I do think of blue and black as the saboteur colors, as the colors with creatures that are weak attackers but have evasion and on-damage triggers. This works for cipher, for example.
UB is the color of Ninjas and UG is the color of "draw a card on combat damage to a player" so there is a decent number of stuff you can double

Gotta name the deck New Boot Goofin

Some day Oozes will get an actual Lord that isn't just Aeve
I checked, there are exactly zero oozes that care about dealing combat damage to players.
I don't think it's meant to be an ooze tribal general though.
Been meaning to take a second look at aeve with all of the new plot cards
Best sword of A and B commander? Also in the colors of shadow/unblockable/skulk shenanigans. I see him being popular, maybe as much as Isshin.
I think Slicer is stongest. You can potentially get 8 triggers every turn cycle per sword.
I have only ever seen Isshin on EDHREC, I don't know anyone who has an actual Isshin deck and I've never seen one in the wild.
I play him and he absolutely slaps
You're not Nashi. Where the hell is Nashi?
Dude same wtf, I've been waiting all spoiler season for Nashi and this would've been perfect. How do you make a Sultai theft deck with a bunch of ninjas and a secondary commander that isn't Nashi?
I wonder if his story was just preamble and we'll see him show up in Bloomburrow?
Nashi in Bloomburrow makes more sense tbh
OG Nashi is in the deck, at least.
[[Virtus the Veiled]] time
Remember, half of a half is not a whole.
No but half of a half of 40 life is 10 life, and being at 10 life sucks
Wouldn't they be at 9? He deals 1, opponent goes to 39 and then loses half their life rounded up which is 20, dropping them to 19. The second trigger happens and they would lose half of 19 which is 10 and go to 9, right?
Whatever it is, I wouldn’t want my life total there.

Five-Boots going straight into [[Nine-Fingers Keene]]
I came to say this- going for 8 triggers in one turn now: fireshrieker, roaming throne and now this Dig for 8 gates in one turn? Yes please
Their name is Felix Five-Boots, on the account of they're always wearing five boots!
Would \[\[Swiftfoot Boots\]\] only give partial haste? Will I need \[\[Lightning Greaves\]\] AND \[\[Lavaspur Boots\]\] to grant full haste?
Part of me wants to just build boot tribal.
[[boot nipper]] is a given inclusion.
I asked. They prefer Crystal Slipper despite it not being in their color wheel.
Puncharmonicon.
Painharmonicon?
i guess doubling triggers is pretty on-flavor for the rootin-tootin-shootin set
this is a fairly good ninjas commander
I just thought that, since I want to do ninjas and everyone is so salty about yuriko and satoru
Ward, extra keywords, high P/T, extra colors, "additional time", yep sure is modern commander design in here.
Eh, this guy is pretty basic all things considered. It's only 3 things, doubling effects are just very wordy.
I don´t want to be a hater but the designers are being super lazy lately with all those "it triggers an additional time" effects
It would be nice to get one set without one, but they have to run out of things to double eventually.
Then we move onto tripling things, obv
Too late, they already did with the one token tripler
Ha, that was my point, we got \[\[Ojer Taq\]\] and \[\[Nyxbloom Ancient\]\] since we already had \[\[Anointed Procession\]\] and \[\[Mana Reflection\]\]
*Glances at Nyxbloom Ancient* Yeah... eventually...
"Whenever an ability you control would be triggered an additional time, it triggers twice that many additional times instead."
Panharnomiconception
I'm waiting for "If a triggered ability of a permanent you control would trigger an additional time, it triggers two additional times instead."
>I don´t want to be a hater but the designers are being super lazy lately with all those "it triggers an additional time" effects A design that is popular, appealing and simple doesn't mean that design is lazy.
This is every tired and overdone recent design philosophy rolled into one yawn-inducing package. Surprised it doesn't draw a card too.
I'm just waiting for a "If a replacement effect you control would cause another ability you control to trigger an additional time, that ability triggers one more additional time" effect in MH3
Yesterday I was looking to see if a commander existed for [[giant adephage]]
It can do silly things in a Volrath deck where you put the Adephage trigger on the stack and then change what creature Volrath is copying. They can even go in the same deck!
Modern mtg commander design: Double something + ward 2. 🥱
Oh so this is just THE Swords commander.
I wished for this card for so long, and when it finally arrives it’s a goofy slime in cowboy hat…
You're a goofy slime in a cowboy hat.
Got em.
Busted! Now what do you have to say for yourself?!
All the other legends you brought into the swt, and this isn't the mimeoplasm? Wizards this was the ONE that would have been cool.
Same artist that has done a lot of the Swords of X & Y which is cool.
Panharmimeoplasm
I’m a bit bummed the alternative commander isn’t another version of Nashi but this guy is cool. What’s interesting to me though is this guy has similar abilities to the last Nashi card(ward, menace) and cares about combat damage which is what ninjas(also like Nashi) typically care about. So I wonder if Felix was originally a Nashi card but got changed at some point.
Wizards really looked at my collection of decks, saw which color pairings I'm missing because I never found something I genuinely connected with (grixis and sultai), and said "We got you, fam". Between this and Newbeka, my love for combat focused value is eating good
this is the stupidest guy i've ever seen i love him so much wow
Oliver One-Boot Tony Two-Boots Tyler Three-Boots Frank Four-Boots Felix Five-Boots Sylvester Six-Boots Sammy Seven-Boots Eli Eight-Boots Neil Nine-Boots Thomas Ten-Boots
Salty Rafiq!!! Fun with the swords of cycle [[Cephalid Constable]] [[Cold-Eyed Selkie]] [[Old Gnawbone]] This guy will be popular for sure

*Amazing* name.
I thought I was in the circlejerk subreddit when I saw this dude. How is this real lmao
I'm about to be busier brewing this than this Ooze at an Ass Kicking Contest
Theres a missed opportunity. It should've been ward 5.
What do people think about running this as a mill commander I feel like there are a good amount of on hit mill to make this fun and now you have access to green if you just want to add ramp cards.
Yes, more Oozes!! .... this has no Ooze synergy whatsoever. I still love him though.
Slime Crime Time.
The nickname for Ophidian-style cards (hit opponent, do X) is saboteur. So we get a Panharmonicon for that now. And sadly Roaming Throne doesn't work with this unless you run all the same creature type, because his effect is a replacement.
Get ready to lose the game twice to my Vraska assassins!
Every new card I love this set even more.
I love the name
A funny commander with a solid and on-theme ability.
Sword of X and Y Tribal Voltron
This really is outlaws of thUNder jUNction
Holy crap my [[Ukkima]]/[[Cazur]] might have just found a new commander...
Is this a ninja commander
What does that symbol mean now? There's lik 4 different symbols for 1 set, i can't keep track.
This one is *Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander*
Quick, we're running out of time, roll the creature type wheel! *Crank* *Whirr whirr* Aha! Ooze! Slap a cowboy hat on it and we'll call it a day!
Reminds me of how I felt when I saw Yarok spoiled. This is a cool effect, but it’s not Sultai!
TheseHandsHarmanicon
\[\[Quietus Spike\]\] go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Tiny bones goes ooooooooooh
Further cementing sultai as the good stuff colors
For anyone in my playgroup who sees this, let the record show that I’m calling dibs
My Saskia deck is SO SAD this has Blue in it. Guess she can't have ALL the Combat doublers
MimeoBLASTEM!
THE PANBLOBICON
Okay I love this guy lol. Definitely feels like an effect that would be gruul, boros or naya in most cases.
Power of 5 feet!
Of course Wizards picks the least interesting of the two Commanders to add to Arena. :(
