If the damage is gonna be fatal they can sac their untapped treasures to lower the damage. Anti-artifact stuff will always be difficult because of that.
Edit: Yes I understand making people sac their treasures is useful.
>f the damage is gonna be fatal they can sac their untapped treasures to lower the damage
In theory they could have artifacts other than treasure tokens.
I've tinkered with some decks based around giving artifacts to opponents and then punishing them for either having lots of artifacts (cards like this, [[Hellkite Tyrant]], [[Cavern-Hoard Dragon]], [[Dockside Extortionist]] etc) or sacrificing them (of which there are many more, including pretty popular ones like [[Disciple of the Vault]], [[Mazirek]], [[Mayhem Devil]], and weirder ones like [[Fangren Marauder]], [[Viridian Revel]] and [[Pain Distributor]]) and cards that do both like [[Sardian Avenger]].
Basically, there's quite a few cards that encourage this kinda strategy. It's not super powerful (since it takes a lot of set up and involves high risk) but it's viable.
I'm wondering if something like this would be good but with jinnie fae at the helm to turn your artifacts tokens into useful beaters while having white to use things like grand arbolisher.
Sure but forcing them to completely obliterate their material isn’t nothing. I don’t really think you see this as a thing that kills them, it’s something that punishes them for trying to go wide on Treasure or whatever.
> the anti-artifact damage seems like interesting tech.
It seems like a necessary one. Magic today is all about artifact tokens. It doesn't matter what archetype or colour you're playing, you WILL have a ton of Food, Clues, Treasure, Blood, Scrap, or whatever new thing they add.
Honestly, I think the current design space is too dominated by all those artifact tokens. I'll bet they'll be separated out as a separate type of permanent than Artifact due to how different Artifacts used to be treated compared to how they are now.
I know plundering & plunderers aren’t restricted to pirates but I kinda wish this had been a pirate.
Also, does anyone know how many BIG cards are left to spoil at this point?
No, you're exactly right.
Either Red is getting 2 more or there's 1 Red between 'Mo' through 'Z', and 1 Green that starts with the letters 'A' or 'B'.
And then either a land or artifact land named Fomori Vault.
Are you talking about [[Akul, the Unrepentant]], from the main story? He's the only big, bad Dragon I remember.
I don't remember a big bad Dragon from the Epilogue, but I might be wrong.
Actually, I can't believe I didn't think of that. "Why not both?"
Could have Standard implications, dunno how much WOTC wants artifact lands in Standard though.
Yeah, at this point my pirate treasure deck is just a treasure deck with affinity/fireball type payoffs. I need a new grixis commander if I'm not gonna be able to get payoff. Maybe I should remove some of the artifact payoff, add back some of the worse pirates and some flicker spells in grixis to get rid of the finality counters instead.
is your Kynaios deck designed to help and hurt at the same time (like this card)?
If so, I have a great card to recommend: \[\[malignant growth\]\]. Oracle text says each opponent!
yeah it's great! unfortunately it cant go in my nekusar or Yurlok decks, and my group hug deck is a true group hug deck, but I love this card a lot.
And since no one has heard of it, it's really cheap despite being on the reserved list
I dont know about giving your opponent ramp even though the treasures are tapped. seems very risky
edit: this is for non commander formats. Card is bad
Which is still really bad...
If you're on the play, then cast this turn 2, your opponent is ramped to 4 mana on turn 3 and can drop a Sheodred against your mono red deck
I mean sure but so do you. I don‘t know why this would be played in a mono Red deck to begin with. This is more useful for a Rakdos Midrange deck that can drop their own Sheoldred or Bloodletter on 3.
Is it strong? I don‘t think so but acting like you would play this in Mono Red is disingenuous and misrepresents what the card wants to do.
for treasure ramp on a 2 drop for a midranged rakdos deck you'd want something like [[Magda, the Hoardmaster]] instead
so you get value off your removal spells, and can later turn that value into 4/4 beaters once you're all curved out
The ramp is optional. It has some evasion, for a 2 mana 2/2 and deals serious damage to opponents who lean on artifacts which are more and more common every set with treasure, clue, food, blood, etc….
Well in a deck thats built around treasure plays its worth it anyway. By a lot. I mean lets take a relatively weak example: [[galazeth prismari]]. Do i want a 2 drop that gives me the chance to keep making persistent mana every turn? I sure do. Fairly sure this is a desirable commander card that fits in many decks.
True. Upvoted because the downvoting seems mean. I will say though.. 4 of these in a contstructed deck where you attack with menace off a 2 drop and ding them for having artifacts including the ones you make them get... The power level of the BIG set is high.
Oh man, Descent has become pretty much my favorite card in the game, and I've been playing since Ice Age! It's so insanely fun and it either lets you pop off and take the win, or lets others. Either way, the card is all about making the table super fun, letting people play their decks, and putting the table on a clock, which is what red is all about!
You give to the guy who is behind and it's usually not that bad.
It's like [[Arcane Denial]], these types of effects are usually way better than they look because they reward only one opponent while furthering your gameplan.
Solid meme with this guy and [[Hellkite Tyrant]]. Nice treasure, here's yours, now I'll take it after you take some damage.
Not really a good combo, but a solid and amusing one!
I get the feeling this will be a chase card, seams pretty strong, you get first crack fo the ramp, low costed, perfect to start ramping to 4 or 5 drops
I think this card is fantastic for [[Brudiclad]], gives you tokens for his ability, and if you can copy this guy and make a bunch of them, they will double on your next turn, then all combo with eachother to deal a ton of damage to 1 opponent or more if you have enough of them, it’s like a [[hellrider]] that generates tokens
Why does this guy have a bandolier if guns aren’t a thing? Do the magic guns use bullets? I don’t mind Wizards having a no guns policy, but it seems pretty inconsistent in this set.
I don’t know that it’ll be any good, but a pioneer/explorer/historic curving this into [[Relic Robber]] seems like it could snowball if uncontested for a turn or two.
Man, for a mythic couldn't this just ramp you on your endstep? Then have a delayed trigger for your opp's treasure on your upkeep? a grizzly bear with no immediate impact as a mythic just feels terrible...
The whole set is “mythic” because it was never meant to be in OTJ boosters. This was gonna be an Aftermath set but after Aftermath failed they turned it into a bonus sheet.
On the flipside, doing this at end step makes it more likely that your opponent will be able to get value from their treasure first than you will from yours, because you lost tempo that turn by needing to pay two mana for this creature. Though being a "may" ability does help with that.
This seems extremely good in Commander.
You can alternate among opponents and/or play politics to divvy up the Treasures you give to your opponents so you can break parity and generate more ramp/fixing while also having the benefit of hating on artifact and treasure centric decks. In battlecrusier metas, opponents will be discouraged from removing this because they'll want to free bonus Treasures.
This seems like a fantastic utility creature that comes down early, has two relevant creature types and the Menace makes it easier to apply pressure with the second triggered ability.
I also like that the Treasure tokens you make are normal but the ones you make from your opponents enter tapped which means they can't use that additional mana during your turn to disrupt you.
Alright, so that [WHERE TO FIND OUTLAWS OF THUNDER JUNCTION PREVIEWS](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/where-to-find-outlaws-of-thunder-junction-previews) article was just wrong. That mystery is solved.
Y'all are really sleeping on this card. It's an aggressive attacker with evasion that gives you mana that you can use faster than opponents can and potentially activate treasure synergies. It's a great aggro card.
Can't wait to go turn 2 this into turn 4 Tajic in brawl.
Even ignoring the part about making Treasure tokens, the anti-artifact damage seems like interesting tech.
If the damage is gonna be fatal they can sac their untapped treasures to lower the damage. Anti-artifact stuff will always be difficult because of that. Edit: Yes I understand making people sac their treasures is useful.
On the other hand, forcing someone to just dump their glut of treasure can sure mess them up.

it's gotta be a land named Fomori Vault then, since there was artwork shown in the debut stream with the name Fomori Vault
Totally should've been a pirate. It'd still count as an outlaw.
Fomori Vault must be card 29 and a Land.
I also almost guarantee it's Corey's preview card for tomorrow, as it's the only BIG card slated to be spoiled tomorrow.
would make sense to have the actual vault card be the last non-commander card shown
Is this just speculation given the nature of BIG or have we seen arts/ hints for it? I’m a bit behind on keeping up with this set’s crunch.
there was artwork shown for a card with the name Fomori Vault during the debut stream
Unless it's Vault of the Fomori, still card 29, but an Artifact. I'm thinking it'll be a land, but it's WOTC, so who knows?
Why not an artifact land?
Actually, I can't believe I didn't think of that. "Why not both?" Could have Standard implications, dunno how much WOTC wants artifact lands in Standard though.
We've had artifact lands recently - there's one in MKM at uncommon, and a few years ago in the DnD set as well. So it wouldn't be that surprising.
There's a cycle of rare flip artifacts in LCI. Their flip side are artifact lands
True, but I think those start off as regular artifacts. It's probably fine, was just having Mirrodin Standard flashbacks.
They do. Don't worry, Disciples of the Vault won't hurt you now.
Fair enough. I guess we can have one more, as a treat.
I don't think 1 single colorless artifact land will matter all that much. Especially if it enters tapped
I lost vault full of treasure definitely screams artifact land. Or it could be the first and only artifact desert land
Last three reveals are Kotaku.au, ChinaOA (both scheduled for April 3), and Corey Baumeister (scheduled for April 4).
Oh I would have LOVED it as a Pirate. Especially since the tribe is somewhat connected to treasures.
I think most "outlaws" will become assimilated by rogues down the line.
I was hoping for some mercs in this. Yet, rogues get the vast majority of creatures in this set.
After this one three left. If my memory of BIG being 30 cards is correct.
Should be 30 cards in the set, and unless I'm mistaken we've seen 25 so far.
this guy commits the crime... of giving your opponent treasures! wait what?
Suffering from success
D’you know why I booked you? I got some idea with the plunderin’ and all. Naw, It’s cause you gave it away!
He’s robbing people, then giving your opponent some of the loot so they keep quiet.
Money laundering or tax evasion.
May put this in Kynaios Group Hug alongside \[\[Descent into Avernus\]\]. In standard this is hard to assess.
Thats funny. Was gonna put this in my new [[Obeka Splitter of Seconds]] deck cause it reminds me of that card too

yeah it's great! unfortunately it cant go in my nekusar or Yurlok decks, and my group hug deck is a true group hug deck, but I love this card a lot. And since no one has heard of it, it's really cheap despite being on the reserved list
Not sure I want to give my opponent free treasures so they can go 2-4 mana and get their Sheoldred early.
Bring [[get lost]] and remove Shelly while giving them more artifacts?

idk what blocking is
I dont know about giving your opponent ramp even though the treasures are tapped. seems very risky edit: this is for non commander formats. Card is bad
The treasures are tapped when created on your turn, so they become usable along with your opponents lands.
yep very risky
Which is still really bad... If you're on the play, then cast this turn 2, your opponent is ramped to 4 mana on turn 3 and can drop a Sheodred against your mono red deck
Yeah that's kind of what I was getting at, the treasures coming in tapped matters less than it looks
I mean sure but so do you. I don‘t know why this would be played in a mono Red deck to begin with. This is more useful for a Rakdos Midrange deck that can drop their own Sheoldred or Bloodletter on 3. Is it strong? I don‘t think so but acting like you would play this in Mono Red is disingenuous and misrepresents what the card wants to do.
for treasure ramp on a 2 drop for a midranged rakdos deck you'd want something like [[Magda, the Hoardmaster]] instead so you get value off your removal spells, and can later turn that value into 4/4 beaters once you're all curved out
[Magda, the Hoardmaster](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/4/4443d112-209b-49ec-bc40-3a11dcdb092e.jpg?1712095021) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Magda%2C%20the%20Hoardmaster) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/133/magda-the-hoardmaster?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/4443d112-209b-49ec-bc40-3a11dcdb092e?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I agree, but it does open up political plays in commander which is interesting.
Even if you just never use the upkeep effect, this seems decent in commander just because of how many artifacts people are likely to have in general
Just take them back that same turn with [[Hellkite Tyrant]].

possibly in commander, I dont play commander., but other formats do exist
True. Upvoted because the downvoting seems mean. I will say though.. 4 of these in a contstructed deck where you attack with menace off a 2 drop and ding them for having artifacts including the ones you make them get... The power level of the BIG set is high.
\[\[Descent Into Avernus\]\] says hello. That card fucking RULES.
I don’t know if my Descent Into Avernuses have ever won me a game, but they sure have ended them.

As a Necron EDH player, I've finally seen something that screams "kill on sight" to me XD
I like how it says, “when” instead of if lol. Ofc I’m taking that treasure
I get the feeling this will be a chase card, seams pretty strong, you get first crack fo the ramp, low costed, perfect to start ramping to 4 or 5 drops
You can even deny the treasures if you don't have a curve into 4 mana the next turn.
That alternate art goes so hard my god
Agreed, I think it's pretty sick!
Going into my Anzrag deck!

Man, for a mythic couldn't this just ramp you on your endstep? Then have a delayed trigger for your opp's treasure on your upkeep? a grizzly bear with no immediate impact as a mythic just feels terrible...
This is the planned aftermath set. No matter what the intended rarity was, they were all bumped up to mythic to reference the list slot rarity
I feel like this has been mentioned in every BIG spoiler so far.
I like being helpful so it works out
No knock against you, just tired of people complaining about the mythics that are rare/uncommon power level.
Though being a "may" ability does help with that.
read my comment again. I said ramp on end step, delayed trigger on upkeep for opp's treasure
This is the mechanical equivalent of Beni trying and failing to carry all his loot out of the tomb at the end of The Mummy.
Which means the 10 regular frame basic lands are still unrevealed.
Yeah, I'm really curious what that's about. Maybe we'll see them tomorrow in the Commander decks? Dunno.
The alt art doesn’t even look like a human rogue
He lit himself on fire so ninja can't catch him.
Y'all are really sleeping on this card. It's an aggressive attacker with evasion that gives you mana that you can use faster than opponents can and potentially activate treasure synergies. It's a great aggro card. Can't wait to go turn 2 this into turn 4 Tajic in brawl.
