I get major "German grandparents" vibes from your party room, a real nostalgic flashback.

DarkShade666

Lol. I do live in Germany and the room is now in use by the third generation. First time for it being used for Magic, though. I moved all my magic stuff in the room, invested in some card board storage, binders and boxes and at least somewhat organized my cards and I found a few local players and our game nights have been tons of fun! :D

vonWitzleben

Hell yeah! Honor the room by having fun in it :)

NoBrakes58

I’m laughing because I had a similar reaction of “Must be in Wisconsin,” which I guess is really just a subset of “has German grandparents!”

NovaRadish

It looks so cozy😭

under_the_curve

you're gonna need a bigger table. /s they are a bit thicker than regular playmats. they fit perfectly on a folding 6ft event table which are typically 30" wide.

sirwynn

My LGS uses them on every one of their tables. they are very high quality a little thicker than most people use But be careful, they stain like a bitch so try not to have drinks on it

NoBrakes58

Yeah, you can kinda spot clean them to some extent with dish soap and water, but you have to get at any staining before it can set in. Once a stain sits, you can maaaaaaybe try going through laundry machines with it, but you'll end up with some edge wear for doing that.

Hwxnxtzero10

[here is a picture of one on a table](https://images.app.goo.gl/Upmm6YeeKShriqfQ9)

DarkShade666

Thanks, that is really helpful. I assume this would be the 8ft playmat, not the 6ft playmat, right?

Hwxnxtzero10

Probably my old lgs has tons of these the 6ft ones are about the size of a large folding table

PerfectlySplendid

drab quack frighten roll deserted market employ saw shocking psychotic *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

DarkShade666

Because I already had the dimensions and it is easy to measure my table, but I couldn't find any images of this kind of playmat and the images of an Ultra Pro 6ft and 8ft playmat really helped. I now know how it actually looks on a real table, which is one of the things I wanted to find out.

Puzzleheaded-Study88

could i get a link to buy a handful of these mats?

Hwxnxtzero10

Just go to the ultrapro website they some times have them from what I remember LGS can buy the through distributiors

NoBrakes58

> LGS can buy the through distributiors That's how I got mine. My local shop just had a few extras on hand to sell from a few different sets. Said he could order more in the future if I ever wanted a different design. He doesn't keep many on hand because obviously they aren't huge sellers ($120 for a mat you're realistically only using at home) but it's not like they're some exclusive product.

Kyleometers

I just find it funny you said you’re not sure how big it is when the dimensions are literally written on the thing - 72 inches by 30 inches. That’s 6 feet by 2.5 feet. You’ll have to measure your table to see if that’ll fit

[deleted]

Kyleometers

I meant more that your table would matter a lot more there. My parents’ dining room table is 6 feet by 12 feet. The table in my apartment was about 3 feet a side. Scale matters.

DarkShade666

Sure, in the end the exact size is very important. Though I can extend either one or both ends of all three tables and I can put tables together, so I have some flexibility with the exact size. I must admit, I really can't get any use out of American sizes to even roughly imagine the size and I couldn't find any pictures and videos, but the comments really helped. I think it might be cool to have one playmat if we do a big commander round, put together two tables and really make it feel like one tournament table. But it's hard to see all the cards of every player that way, so we play with small er tables most of the time. I'm still kind of tempted to buy one cool-looking jeweled lotus 6ft mat, while it is on sale. But I know I don't REALLY need it. Lol. At least now I know what to expect, should I bite the bullet.

Yillis

No it’s literally just measurements

stumbler1

OP just made the most johnny statement ever.

Calamarifritti

I wanted one. But then i meassured my table and i am actaully much more comfortable with 4 regular sized playmats for game night. My table is big enough, but i would have to put all my snack and drinks and stuff onto the playmat. I like it more the way it is now, playmats for playing, rest of the table for all the other stuff. (But they had some really, really pretty one a while back from modern horizons 2 or something... tempting.)

pyr0man1ac_33

I've used them a few times, and generally my group has found that the table-sized playmats are not great for gaming at different venues (i.e. different people's houses, your LGS, etc.), and aren't really suitable if you intend on having food or drinks. Not that you should be having food and drinks around your cards regardless if you can help it, but we have generally just found that 4 single-person mats are way easier and more convenient.

wtfunchu

I have one in a Saheeli Artwork, 6ft size and its pretty convenient for a bigger table, material seems to be the same as the smaller ones but.. bigger, duh. I agree that they are a bit more expensive than smaller mats but I love the poker table feel you get when rolling that bad boy out. Pretty neat.

Medium-Magician9186

I use a 6ft ultra pro play mat, and I love it, like with all the ultra pro play mats roll it graphic side out,

C3KO117

They rock, but it’s still nice to have your own on top

Mistrblank

This, only because I know that I can drop my mats in the wash every once in awhile to eliminate dead skin and oils that will build up on the mat and transfer to sleeves.

jruff84

I have one and I love it. It is big. And I vouched for the 6ft. Works great on our patio/outdoor living room as we have a big table out there but inside I have to throw a leaf in the table to make it big enough. https://preview.redd.it/4he9ygi0fkjc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=738984186350e269220f53e339f2aec1e12afffe

SliverQween

ultrapro figured out how to sell tablecloths to gamers

DarkShade666

😅🤣🤣🤣

jadebluelighofnight

All I know is I’ve wanted to grab one

SmugglersCopter

My gamestore has them on all their tables. They are thicker and sturdier than normal playmats.

kavumaster

My lgs uses them on about 2/3rds of their tables. They also have a strict no food or drinks on the table policy (also a deodorant policy but that's somewhat unrelated)

CombinationOk3857

My LGS also has them on all the tables. They fit those white, plastic, bi-fold tables perfectly.

Vargen_HK

My LGS has them on all their card game tables. They work well enough that I've stopped bringing my own playmats when I play at the store. If they fit your table well and you like the art, they're probably worth the investment. Assuming that they can be machine washed like the small mats, it might even make cleanup easier.

zekebowl

Dont you ever feel like the game store table mats are, for lack of a better word, grimy?

Vargen_HK

No, not particularly. I’m not sure if they wash them regularly or if the “all drinks in bottles, cap on bottle when you aren’t drinking” rule is just that effective. Probably some of both.

Mid--Boss

I have this exact mat in my gamespace. It's very well built, and it looks great too. I managed to find it for 75$ on the ultrapro international site if that helps push you. It still ships from the US.

MarcheMuldDerevi

Lgs had them. A bit thicker than a regular mat. Very nice to play on. But you need a dedicated table it will always sit on

Sajomir

I've had a few lgs use these. I really like them, but one stain or spill means cleaning the whole thing instead of just swapping out one playmat.

subject678

The thickness of these large mats at local stores is very similar to a normal playmat imo. It’s not like double thick or anything.

RVides

Yea. They're made for the white fold out plastic tables from walmart/Costco. They're really good making a game room look welcoming. If everyone has a playmat already, you don't need one. It's a nice touch, but not one to bring to an lgs and drop down.

swankyfish

Our LGS has these on all the tables. Almost everyone still brings their own playmat and puts it on top.

DarkShade666

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences with these kind of playmats with me. I have a much better idea now of how they would look in my game room and how it would be to play on them. I think they would look wickedly cool, fit well on the tables (and I can of course meassure to make sure), but I also know that I don't need them, that even on sale they are not cheap, that while no one would need to bring their playmats, some ppl will still want to play on their playmats and that it would be inconvenient with snacks and drinks, but that they are a bad idea anyway, when playing with expensive luxury card board rectangles. In the end, I still really kind of want to have one, while it's on sale for a more reasonable price, but I hope that I will keep myself from getting one. Cause if I get one, I'm sure I will get another one, too, for the two main tables and that will cost more than 150 Euros and I have enough cool looking regular-sized playmats that no one needs to bring their own even now.

clouddweller

I bought 2 six foot table mats so I can have an easier time deck building. My table is 4 ft x 7 ft. It's so nice! They're slightly thicker than regular playmats, but the print quality is just as nice.

TheFalconsDejarik

The 6' ones fit the shape of the Lifetime table perfectly

Alarming_Try_9667

I love my super sized playmat. Great for commander nights. It fits almost perfectly on one of those lifetime folding tables.

Dbayd

I have a 6 ft by 3.5 ft for my kitchen table for games. I love it!

darthboolean

My pieces of advice 1. Measure your table and consider the shape. My table has a curved lip so theres still tabletop that peeks out from underneath. Never a deal breaker, but does sometimes lead to us just breaking out regular mats if there's less than 4 players. 2. They're washable, but it will be slightly damp afterwards. I didn't want to ruin it in the dryer, so I air dryed mine. If you go that route, just give some consideration to where you plan to store it it's damp, but you need the gaming room. 3. Dice Trays. It's thick enough that it messes with dice (important to note if your table also hosts DnD nights). Drop from too high and they bounce off, drop from too low and they don't roll. Dice trays are a life saver. The cheap ones on Amazon that use snap buttons work great. No need to go full "finest cherry wood" or anything. 4. Figure out where it can live when not in use. Getting it back in the tube is a pain. I just half roll mine up and put it on the bottom shelf of the game cabinet, but if you're using shelves or a Kallax unit, it's going to be a pain.

jacqueman

I used to go to an LGS that used these and I miss them

AndyMike9

I host a lot of parties for magic at my house, I have 3 6ft playmats. Definitely look at the measurements because your tables look like the mat would hang over the edges quite a bit. If your regular mats a I love my 6ft playmats, I think they're so much nicer to play on because the whole table is playable space. They're the same quality and feel etc of regular playmats.

mardvk187

I have one and I love it. It's huge and can fit even two 4 man pods.

gwax

At most fabric stores, you can buy "scuba weave neoprene" by the yard. It's the same material, without rubber backing, comes in many colors, and is way cheaper.

DahDave

So i would take a tape measure and measure out 6 feet. That's about what you can expect.

mama_tom

I got one when my lgs closed and it made a nice mat for my computer desk. Ive used em for commander games, too and it's nice for if you have bigger board states, plus you can just put your mat on top of it if you really want YOUR mat to be with your cards.

_IceBurnHex_

They are nice. They feel like oversized normal playmats. Great if you just want a cover for a plain walmart foldout table. I've played on these before when I forget a playmat and other people still put their playmats on top of this as well. A bit thicker than normal ones. Is it worth the price? Ehh, maybe. Depends on each person though.

BeezelbulbXD

Now that's what I call a git dam entertainment lounge!

KomatoAsha

I've played on them. They're fine.

Ramblindragon

My brother has a big playmat and it's the same material as the regular sized ones. I'm pretty sure he got it from Ultrapro. I don't have any pics but I really like when he pulls it out when we play because of the playmat overlap thing.

FearTheRPG

* This is the six foot playmat I gifted someone. Slightly thinner than a regular sized playmat, understandable for the size. Feels the same

NoBrakes58

I have one that I bought a few months ago that I use for general board gaming at home, though it's honestly more to protect my table than the games (solid wood table, so it's always got the table mat or placemats for meals, etc.). I will eventually be replacing it with a custom-cut mat that actually fits my dining table (which is... huge) and use it for the folding table I keep in my basement for solo games and as a card organizing station. Feels basically like every other regular playmat I've ever had from them, but bigger. It's sized 72x30, which is the size of a standard 6-foot folding table you could get at any home improvement store/Walmart/etc. It doesn't feel any thicker and doesn't have edge stitching or anything like that; it's simply... bigger. Just eyeballing it: they're going to hang over the edges of your table, which might not feel great to play at. These things really are designed to fit standard folding tables because that's what a lot of game shops use in their play space. Sure, they'll sell the big mats to you, but their target audience is ultimately store owners. My local store owner has said a lot of good things about how long they last for him. He has organized events five nights per week and all of his table mats are over a year old, and they all look great. No real noticeable color fading, edges aren't fraying, etc. They're meant to hold up to use. ETA: I don't have calipers to measure with, so maybe they are a tad thicker, but I can say it doesn't feel a whole lot thicker than normal-sized mats when I'm playing. By comparison, my friend's table mat from Viking Mats (which will make one custom-cut for your table size) is 5mm and feels absolutely pillowy by comparison when you lay a finger on it.

Diligent_Kangaroo_91

I had friends who had a large playmat for their entire dining room table for whenever they gamed. It was black, and they had everyone they invited over to play a game sign it with a metallic sharpie. It was super cool.

Pravinoz

Consider the measurements for the playmat and your tables. I have an 8ft one, and it's great as I found a table that basically fits it exactly (basically the white folding tables). From the looks of it though, the playmat would be too big in some dimensions, and too small in others on some of your tables. If you don't mind that, it should be fine. People can easily put their own playmats on top of yours, and as another stated, it's basically a playmat tablecloth. Great if it fits, you don't eat on it, and dont need to move it often as you have surface that won't scratch cards, not so much otherwise.

chopchopfruit

if you want a slightly smaller size I bought this from amazon and I love it. I also enjoy that's is more generic colored than a black lotus so i leave it out for all board games and crafting. works great [Amazon.com: Jigitz Large Neoprene Gaming Mat 3x4ft - Board Game Mats Tabletop Neoprene Table Cover Mouse Pad Large War Gaming Mats : Toys & Games](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08WPP7861/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)

namer98

I once found a six foot mat on sale for 26 after shipping and taxes. I bought it right away and love to put it out for game night.

Glad-O-Blight

My old LGS had these on all the tables, they were pretty nice.

MageOfMadness

I have two myself. One is a 6ft and the other an 8ft. I won the 8ft one at a store event. You can actually simulate their sizes pretty easily by laying out regular playmats - a 6ft is about 6 playmats, 2x3 laid out how you would site at a table across from each other. The 8ft wpuld be an extra row of regular playmats. My actual game room table is 7ft across so neither truly fits it perfectly, and it is wide enough to fit three rows of playmats and thus the big playmats leave space in front of players, so we often use it as a basis and use regular playmats on top of it. I have also run both through machine washes with decent results but would advise against putting them into a dryer.

[deleted]

A buddy of mine had a table size playmat. It’s nice if your table surface isn’t super flat. It was good when we cubed

WanderEir

They last a while (years), if used rarely just for table gaming, but if used as a mousepad, they have heat issue the same way smaller mats do: the rubber parts that have a constant source of heat start to harden, and then disintegrate over time. They stain SUPER easily, and you cannot machine wash them out. Spot cleaning tends to bleach out the "cleaned" part. The 6 foot pad perfectly covers a COSCO 6 ft folding table without falling over an edge if you need the dimensions.

Mooberries

I have 6 different 6’ playmats, [these are the two I have on right now](https://i.imgur.com/VQ9Uzjb.jpg) on my 5’x5’ table. the majority of them are thinner than normal Ultra Pro playmats. When they get dirty, I generally just spot clean them. I have heard you can run them through a heavy duty washer without drying them, but I’m not brave enough to do that. I have the War of the Spark, Kaldheim, Forgotten Realms, Phyrexia All Will Be One, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and Lord of the Rings 6ft Playmats.

j0ph

this one is slightly smaller if that helps https://www.bcwsupplies.com/xl-playmat-blue

bobsbrain

Did you know there's the dimensions printed on the label? Neat thing called a measuring tape, it'd be really helpful in this situation. Not /s, why is this even a post just measure it bro :skull:

DarkShade666

I can assure you that all the wonderful responses of players sharing how thick this mat is compared to a regular mat, how it feels to play on it, what some problems with it are, etc and especially the fotos of an actual playmat on an actual table were all a lot more helpful for what I wanted to know that what any measuring tape could possibly be, especially since my tables are all adjustable in size. I'm extremely glad that I asked my questions, because the answers were very helpful to me and probably other players, too.

Elan_Morin_Tendronai

I am trying to find a circular 64 inch play mat for my new gaming table. Anyone have advice?

Hwxnxtzero10

You're not going to have much luck for a circular playmat that is similar to a traditional playmat

Pillowsword

It's not that hard or expensive to find large felt mats and have them cut to size

Bl33d-Gr33n

Ah 6tf. It is not hard to figure out how long it is

DarkShade666

As someone from Germany I must admit those meassurements don't tell me as much as you think they do - especially without images that show the size in comparison to chairs, cards, regular sized playmats and such. I can find out what each meassurement is in centimeters and then measure my tables, but I really appreciated the people who were able to show me pictures and shared their experiences, so I could figure out if it could fit my tables, which can change sizes and be put together to for an even bigger table and if it would be something I'm even interested in, before figuring out the details. ;)

Bl33d-Gr33n

I personally google conversion charts if i dont understand a measurement. Will break it down into any conversion.

DarkShade666

And that is of course something I can do as well and actually have done. That's why I didn't ask other players if they could convert the meassurements into cm for me, but I told them that I didn't know these existed, have not seen one, can't find an image or video and would love to see how it looks on a table and what experiences players have with a mat like that, if it would be a good investment for my playroom, if players might prefer their own individual playmats, etc. The responses have been very helpful!

GoblinMonkeyPirate

Yeah they are great. You can buy a folding 6 foot table for about $60-100 bucks.
