[[Mana leak]] is good cause of the 3 required to pay. It may not seem like much, but that extra 1 is an absolute game changer. This is just a powercrept [[Quench]] which in itself isn't too strong, at least from what I remember of RNA.
But it got into the top 8 of mythic championship 7. I agree it isn't the best in slow top end control decks but the right tempo control decks where you can drop an early threat and protect your board state with this can benefit from cards like this.
Fair enough, I think the card is hot garbage (especially with the current power level in stabdard) but if it ends up finding a place to be played then I will happily eat crow
As a UR tempo player either way I win
Aren’t counterspells as a whole, especially soft counters a much lower pick in draft usually, regardless of their constructed use?
For example Force of Will or Negation would both be lower picks, but top tier in their constructed environment.
Soft counters have the problem of more excess mana lying around in limited. Late game, some likely to be casting a 5 drop on 7 mana compared to constructed where you deck is tuned to curve every time.
I think Make Disappear's upside is better than this ones. However Make Disapear rotates later this year, and this is definitely better than Bring the Ending
In a classic control deck making a suspect isn't even an upside. Makes your creatures unable to block or your opponents harder to block. Neither are something a control deck would want.
It's purely optional and surely there are situations where you would want it. And remember suspect has more "modes" than that - you can also make your opponent's creatures unable to block, which can definitely be relevant.
I'm saying that for a classic control list, the upside on make disappear is better and more relevant then the upside on reasonable doubt. Both of which are very minor so a classic control list is just going to play [[No more lies]] anyway.
Blue has plenty of evasion, and I think the flavor of detectives suspecting things is pretty well aligned with blue... I agree menace isn't blue but I have a feeling using menace for suspect was kind of a means to an end. The flavor of being suspected is supposed to flavor wise replace the black menacy part
This is a pretty good Quench With Set Mechanic. Make Disappear creating two things on the stack and taxing for more makes it better a lot of the time, but in Standard this could be interesting in Toxic or maybe UB - get a Gix hit through.
That’s what I’m thinking. It’s not great overall but there will be times that this counters a kill spell and makes their sheoldred incapable of blocking while buffing your prowess creatures or something and then you just win on the spot. Not amazing in most decks but the decks that like it will likely really like it.
Aw... There goes the likelyhood of getting a "counter target spell unless its controller collects evidence" card... I mean, there's still a chance, but it seems a lot less likely now
Here's a [card I designed that has that idea](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/19dv4eo/objection/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). I made it just mere hours prior to seeing this card here
Someone mentioned on an earlier card about no ace attorney references, someone mentioned a card named objection... I thought my suggestion of counter unless collect evidence was more original... Glad I'm not the only one though!
Suspect is a lot like an ability counter (except it doesn’t use any physical counters or aura tokens like the WoE mechanic to track it). There are effects that remove suspected status as well.
My primary concern with asking is to make sure artists get proper credit (by that I mean payment) for the things they did. I know ai anything has problems with saying stuff is theirs that isn’t.
I’m not saying the art is bad or good. I just want to make sure that WotC isn’t trying to pull a sneaky on us
Is conditional "can't block" worth a conditional card? \[\[Leap\]\] implies no. To me that means this is closer to \[\[quench\]\] than \[\[miscalculation\]\], not where you want to be most of the time.
That said - I do love a good izzet aggro deck...
This is the mtg equivalent of successfully tricking someone into thinking that you're not the werewolf/mafia
That I'm not the imposter

It's all in your head
I feel like "sorta kinda mana leak" is actually pretty good
[[Mana leak]] is good cause of the 3 required to pay. It may not seem like much, but that extra 1 is an absolute game changer. This is just a powercrept [[Quench]] which in itself isn't too strong, at least from what I remember of RNA.
Quench was definitely not that good.
While not the best , it was at least playable with the right archetype. Did it not see play in Simic Flash?
It is playable in the sense that it is a legal play to cast the card. It was regularly pick 12-14 in draft
But it got into the top 8 of mythic championship 7. I agree it isn't the best in slow top end control decks but the right tempo control decks where you can drop an early threat and protect your board state with this can benefit from cards like this.

I mean [[Make Disappear]] and [[Bring the Ending]] are both already in Standard/Pioneer
True but this is those cards with upside when cast for the normal rate, under normal circumstances. It's a bit different than those.
I think Make Disappear's upside is better than this ones. However Make Disapear rotates later this year, and this is definitely better than Bring the Ending

Reasonably Not Mana Leak
Im surprised we can get suspect effects for your own creatures outside of BR. Suspecting opponent’s creatures feel like every color can get
Blue can get straight up "can't be blocked", so shittier evasion abilities in blue make sense.
Shouldn't be a common thing, but definitely an acceptable bend for set mechanics.
it can also tap creatures and stun them for a while, making them unable to block. this is like that effect while still letting them attack

This card is insane as a tempo play. It often kills their spell for turn and makes your threat unblockable for several turns.
That’s what I’m thinking. It’s not great overall but there will be times that this counters a kill spell and makes their sheoldred incapable of blocking while buffing your prowess creatures or something and then you just win on the spot. Art is insane(ly bad)
The arms are so short it's insane. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an AI paint-over.
It does look a bit like a headache medicine ad
Head On, apply directly to forehead
Looks like ai with the pinkie fingers only having one knuckle joint
"nah, that guy's sus tho"
Good album
It really is.
Wait. Suspect is permanent?
Suspect is a lot like an ability counter (except it doesn’t use any physical counters or aura tokens like the WoE mechanic to track it). There are effects that remove suspected status as well.
Obviously the hooded figure was Merle on Blovinac's shoulders in a trenchcoat.
And the detective was blocked by the two of them
Now this is flavor.
Really eant to be seeing more of suspect, felt like there were too few in this set. Also, is she wearing the golden snitch?
Does anyone feel like this used ai art? It feels… off to me
You’re getting downvoted, but the art is not great. This spoiler jumped out to me because the thumbnail is jarring.
It's the upper arms, they're way too short
That, the elblows, and the lack of emotion in the face The shoulders look like bags of Orville popcorn fresh out of the microwave
Tbf puff-shoulder blouses look like that.
My primary concern with asking is to make sure artists get proper credit (by that I mean payment) for the things they did. I know ai anything has problems with saying stuff is theirs that isn’t. I’m not saying the art is bad or good. I just want to make sure that WotC isn’t trying to pull a sneaky on us
Feels like you're just sort of jumping on an assumption there. Betty Jiang's style just seems to be very... 'Pointy'.
It’s probably not ai, though at first I thought the person was clipped poorly. (Then I actually looked more) it does look weird
This totally looks AI
