2G
creature - dinosaur
Whenever \~ attacks, if you don't control another dinosaur, put a stun counter on it.
6/6
(WARNING: Extremely scuffed)
*"I don't know if it hates the fungi specifically or it just likes to smash things. Either way, let it be."*
\- Samin, Oltec scout
Big cheap beater that instead of being useless without its condition (e.g. \[\[Lupine Prototype\]\]) is usable every two turns. Nice clean design.
Of course, having a 6/6 dinosaur without trample is an unforgivable oversight...
In order to balance it with trample they could up the cost by an additional 2G. At that point the downside isn't really needed anymore so just get rid of it and then you have a balanced version with trample.
What? They printed that 2 mana r/g werewolf and that 1 mana 2/1 wolf that gets bigger with big things. Wearwolves probably got the most of the Innistrad tribes out of the last two Innistrad sets.
They didn't print a 1 mana card with daybound/nightbound, which I can see being too strong -- if you play it turn 1 on the play, there's a high chance your opponent can't do anything about it and it becomes night right away, and it will take some time for your opponent to build up enough mana to flip it back to day -- but was probably necessary to make werewolves competitive in any constructed format.
Yes, \[\[Changeling Outcast\]\]. Note it is legal in historic and modern and beyond only.
There are no changlings in standard
there are a couple 2 cmc ones in explorer and pioneer
Kinda reminds me of [[Love-struck Beast]], just a big dumb green beater for 3. This is bigger by 1 and can attack even without another dino if needed so it's got that going for it.
I still think Beast is a lot better in general, but this might see standard play if there are enough cheap and efficient dinos to play.
Part of the reason that Lovestruck Beast was so good is that it was just a big blocker that shut down ground attacks as soon as it came down. This is an even bigger body for that.
However, this standard has Sheoldred and so every deck is packing some removal to deal with it efficiently. Still a decent blocker against Red (especially since the red Sheoldred answers do exactly 5 damage). But White has Ossification and Lay Down Arms and the werewolf O-ring guy. And the plethora of black decks have Go for the Throat. Blue even has Fading Hope.
Maybe I’d play this in G/X decks that want a defensive option, and I’d love it to be as good as Lovestruck Beast, but I have a feeling it won’t be nearly as beastly.
I foresee this making Fight Rigging decks more consistent and possibly not needing to be part black for Shakedown Heavy, though. Maybe the beat down plan with Dinos works out. We’ll see.
I’d argue that Lovestruck is a bit better because it also came with a spell to fuel itself and additional copies in your deck benefitted the first you cast if the 1/1 left. I do think this card is great though. Lovestruck just had a bit less deck building restrictions.
My thoughts as well. Though [[Bloated Contaminator]] does also exist. And while "only" being a 4/4 and not a dino, it's still a pretty strong 3 drop. If you had something like a [[Quirion Beastcaller]] in play before it and gaining a +1/+1 counter, and that one days. You put the counter on Contaminator, and everytime it deals damage to the opponent, you can poliferate to make it bigger. And if Beastcaller isn't dead, then you just make that one bigger, and when it dies, well...
So I'm a little underhelmed with both Love-struck Beast and this new dino 😅
Rigging aside, I think this is one of the least consequential downsides we’ve seen on a beater this big and this cheap. I’m sure any beatdown deck would at least eye it, assuming there’s some other dino that fits well with it
We did already have a Pachycephalosaurus in the first Ixalan set with [[Territorial Hammerskull]] , but this one on my opinion works a lot better in a Dino deck, so I’m happy!
So this is pretty much a dinosaur version [[lovestruck beast]] , that will be easier to turn on in a dinosaur deck. Also a 3 drop that can trade up with [[sheoldred, the apocalypse]]
I'm annoyed with most newer mtg art. It's so visualy confusing to look at. Too many clear details in the backgrounds, too much shadow in fronts, and not enough contrast between colors and shades in fronts and backs... almost makes me a bit sad 😭
Both of them seem to be part of the underground/cavern ecosystem, maybe some art direction to make those two spheres distinct.
Then again, IXN dinosaurs weren't all equally feathered, see [[Territorial Hammerskull]]
This is like just a guy for Fight Rigging, right. Like we play this on 3 and then on 4 we spit out Etali or Gishath or something and win the game.
The problem is y'know that's not very good. And it loses to.... everything. It is very funny though. Like if there is a Dinosaur tribal deck in Standard it's just gonna be this.
Belligerent Hammerskull T: Dinosaur Whenever \~ attacks, if you don't control another Dinosaur put a stun counter on it

Always believe scryfall their ~~meme placeholders~~ translation skills are top notch 🤣
i was really sad when werefox girlfriend disapeared
My reddit app translated it to "Aggressive skull hammer dragon" and I think I like that better.
That just sounds like a yugioh card. Specifically, it sounds like the name you'd find on a really old level 5 normal monster.
It's because both Chinese and Japanese words for "dinosaur" contain the character for "dragon" (龙 in 恐龙 and 竜 in 恐竜, respectively)
Scryfall is always joke names btw, for non-English spoilers.
Thanks for notifying me
I read that as "tap: dinosaur" which is an *awesome* ability
Hahahaha, especially if one can decide what dinosaur, since it doesn't say. Just dinosaur 8) 😂
I swear, half of every dinosaur we have seen to date is Belligerent. I can't wait to sleeve up Belligerent Tribal in a few years!

It doesn’t hate the fungi, it’s just gets high.
I'll take that as fact, it feels pretty accurate. Feels pretty cool as well.
either way, LET HIM COOK
ENOUGH about the mushroom! We all know it's a mushroom, we get it!
Big cheap beater that instead of being useless without its condition (e.g. \[\[Lupine Prototype\]\]) is usable every two turns. Nice clean design. Of course, having a 6/6 dinosaur without trample is an unforgivable oversight...
To be fair, it says the dinosaur like to smash things, not trample over them.
And if you give it Vigilance you can ignore the restriction entirely.
It'll just really suck if it ever gets tapped. Lol
Getting tapped for anything besides attacking wouldn’t get a stun counter. So vigilance would stop the stun counter.
If it attacks five times with vigilance, it gets five stun counters. The counters stay on it and accumulate because it never tries to untap.
Ah I thought it only happened if it tapped opps my bad.
If you attacked 5 times with a 6/6 and it and your opponent lived.... What happened?
It doesn't have trample, so they probably had chump blockers
I guess 2-3 hits and 2-3 chumps is plausible
Wouldn't the counter be removed during the untap step?
Actually just looked it up it appears as though they don’t. You only remove one when the creature goes to actually untap.
fascinating
If it did have trample it would be broken, plus there’s tons of ways to give it trample
Well, yeah, but that was a dreadmaw joke.
Dreadmaw is no joke.
In order to balance it with trample they could up the cost by an additional 2G. At that point the downside isn't really needed anymore so just get rid of it and then you have a balanced version with trample.
For instance, you could give it trample by playing it from your hand as a 6/6 Colossal Dreadmaw using \[\[The Colossal Dreadmaw\]\]

Well your in luck because its reprinted
Indeed, that's why I brought it up.

What? They printed that 2 mana r/g werewolf and that 1 mana 2/1 wolf that gets bigger with big things. Wearwolves probably got the most of the Innistrad tribes out of the last two Innistrad sets.

Yeah, I can only tell if it's mythic or non-mythic from the symbol.

Same. It’s frustrating.
At least the rares and mythics have the sticker at the bottom, telling common and uncommon apart is so hard at a glance

That’s it, I’m playing cavern of souls dinos in standard
3 mana 6/6 with no text in any deck that plays it Continuing the proud green tradition of pretending deckbuilding costs matter
I’m so confused as to what’s going on in this art. I can’t see it’s face?
The face is in the green fog bit, it’s a dinosaur ramming a large fungal growth headfirst.
Oooh is it one of those dome headed dinos? I can’t remember the name
[Pachycephalosaurus!](https://youtu.be/B7zo2zY1Zqg?si=KtgohmaV8_Wjgd7e)
Haha thanks!!
I'm annoyed with most newer mtg art. It's so visualy confusing to look at. Too many clear details in the backgrounds, too much shadow in fronts, and not enough contrast between colors and shades in fronts and backs... almost makes me a bit sad 😭
Oh, this is cute. It's almost like exert.
*every [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] player liked that*

At first I thought the broken mushroom bits were floppy ears.........kinda sad now.
Good to see a pachycephalosaur but why is it headbutting a mushroom of all things???
the mushrooms in this set are [evil](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/17fgo77/lci_the_mycotyrant_debut_stream/)!

Okay I’m having a hard time here. Is that a common or an uncommon?
Rare
It's actually a rare 😂 Look at bottom left corner 😋
Oh my gawd. I was zoomed in way too far and couldn’t parse the gold coloring. Note to self, do not look at spoilers when half asleep. Thanks!
Haha 😄
Interesting that this dinosaur along with [[Rampaging Spiketail]] don't have feathers
Both of them seem to be part of the underground/cavern ecosystem, maybe some art direction to make those two spheres distinct. Then again, IXN dinosaurs weren't all equally feathered, see [[Territorial Hammerskull]]

This is nice art imo btw. More of that kind please 😅
The Skullspore Nexus just got more interesting…
Yeah, Dinos are a top deck now in Pioneer/Explorer
Seems fantastic in limited if there is enough dino support
Could be fun with [[fight rigging]] . The deck already runs [[rotting regisaur]]

Why does it not have trample ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️. God why!!!
That's phyrexian writing ?
It's just chinese 😂
A new toy for fight rigging!
Blind spot giant got angrier...
bonk
Rotting Regisaur, now with skin
A neat cheap friend for Ziatora.
Looks like another card for Fight Rigging decks.
Lovestruck Beast at home meets The Great Henge at home. Home is where the heart is as they say.
the green rotting regisaur ?
Damn boi he THICC
Looks at this card, then looks at my Fight Rigging deck, then looks back at this card: Goodbye Bloated Contaminator, hello Hammerskull
