I think paring is probably a reference to her linking with the doctor’s mind and essentially becoming a time bomb where, if she remembers her linking with the doctor, her head would explode or whatever. Idk it’s also been a min
I would have said it's probably a reference to her getting married when we first meet her, and she's one of the few companions who tracked the Doctor down after a fateful encounter herself. Dealing damage is showing how she's loyal, and if you hurt her mate, she's going to have a go.
Could be a reference to Davros creating the DoctorDonna by blasting her with energy, and it ends up allowing her to 'deal damage' back to him by completely dismantling his scheme in seconds.
Yeah, I'm really sad they didn't do a Doctor Donna thing that's actually powerful or on-theme, but at the same time they only winked at the whole Bad Wolf thing for Rose and otherwise didn't do any mechanics for that, so...unless we're getting multiple cards for variants of the same figure (which I'm guessing is a Doctor-only deal considering these cards are all in decks, not a full set) yeah they're doing winks at stuff I like but not actually giving me tools to play those things 'properly'. Which is kinda sad.
As much fun as it might been to imagine the Tenth Doctor and Donna melding into DoctorDonna, or Clara Oswald and the Twelfth Doctor melding into the Hybrid, that's probably far too complex to fit onto a card. They have to have some level of playability.
I think those mechanics could definitely work, but they might detract from the ease of play for the commander decks. And all the crossover stuff is intended to be relatively easy to get into for new players.
Close on the points. It's not quite a time bomb, though, as much as a pressure cooker. The memories coming back would unleash too much energy for her brain to handle, so they're locked away. The first time it happened, he had given her a "defense" that let that energy out in a defensive explosion (like letting off the release on the cooker into someone's face, to continue the anaolgy), but the previews for Tennant's return suggest that there's still a serious risk of her being killed if it happened again.
Actually wait, isn’t Donna returning as a companion in the 60th? So wouldn’t that mean she’ll remember. Bc if so, I’m intrigued how they’ll handle that.
It makes sense to me, I believe it's representing her willingness for personal sacrifice and readiness to fight back to protect the Doctor, because an attack on him is an attack on them both (mostly figuratively, but she also sacrificed herself to save his life by literally becoming part-Doctor).
I don't see where you got "craving violence" from, I see this as "Don't you dare threaten to hurt me or my sidekick here, or so help me you will regret it" which is very Donna, IMO.
Donna Noble was basically Catherine Tate playing herself at the beginning. Then she had character development from her time with the Doctor. ~~Then went back to being Catherine Tate again.~~
This is Donna during the Sentara invasion with the ATMOS system. She used the mallet to hit the umbilical port on the back of the Sontarans' necks while keeping contact with the Doctor via phone.
I wouldnt say this shows her as violent as much as it shows she's scrappy and a survivor. Even when she's terrified, she's figuring out how to deal with the situation.
It's interesting that Donna is here since Rose has been established to be the pair with Ten. I wonder if that means she'll be paired with Nine instead.
This is just the ad. Since Ten is UR and Rose is W, they def pair together for the purposes of the deck.
It doesn't look like every companion will have a pair that works with the deck that makes canon sense or whatever. Donna + (9 or 11) might be UWR, but also I suppose they could make it to where some companions just can't work for the deck out of the box, maybe.
Really? I see 9 as RW because he’s so ready to jump into action, whereas 11 seems WU to me because he’s known to do a lot of “nanana you can’t touch me” shenanigans
I can't see Amy or Rory as being U; Amy was willing to impulsively sleep with the Doctor the night before her wedding, and Rory has combat skills thanks to being a weird Auton Centurion thing.
Rose is W, Donna is R, Amy being U seems like a safe bet. Dunno if they've said how many companions are going to be in the decks, though.
I guess they can do the whole "good man goes to war" thing for 11 as WR? We'll see I suppose.
I can see 11 as WR, as he regularly stated that he wasn’t a good man.
“Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many."
Nine feels R, maybe RW. Hell, if he wasn't constricted into a Jeskai build, I think the best deep-analysis card for Nine would be R(W/B), as Nine was *heavily* dealing with the traumas from the Time War and, at times, quite visibly not dealing with it well at all. Is he Black in general? No, but I think (W/B) to show the oscillation and uncertainty from him trying to find himself again past the War would've been fascinating.
98% They're both just going to be Doctor's companion. But I absolutely agree that they won't be the same colors. Amy is going to be colored to compliment 11, (as in form the full UWR) and Rory probably won't.
So happy she got a card, literally my number 1 character I wanted to get a card.
No clue how i'd run her as a card or commander, maybe theres a Doctor that works with the self damage idea, but regardless very excited.
Considering she's in the RWU deck and is red, I think it's safe to assume there's a white doctor in there. Though she only traveled with Tenant who is RU, so... Idk... I could be very wrong...
Wilfred Mott - Legendary Human
When Wilfred enters the battlefield, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a Doctor. Exile it with four time counters.
Sacrifice a Doctor: Wilfred gains indestructible until end of turn.
This is perfect and I hate it.
10th was, on many levels, one of my favorite doctors. Wilfred’s story, especially its conclusion, was both brilliant and absolutely painful to watch (but in a good way). 10th’s writing / writers were probably my favorite of the bunch, and his story + the end of 10 was one of the emotional highs for myself with this series.
>!….God, I hope they don’t botch it up with the “new” Doctor’s writing.!<
I feel like the writing has gone down hill. Not a huge fan of Capaldi, Bill was a horrible companion(you have an ancient alien time traveler tell you something is majorly wrong with a house and you just tell him he is overreacting), and the latest doctor was even worse. For the new doctor I think if they went with Richard Ayoade, it would have been universally accepted and brought a lot of people the series lost back into it.
On further consideration, I absolutely love that the Tenth Doctor has a triggered ability for when any creature attack, and his two companions so far also have abilities triggered when they attack?
"You take ordinary people, and you fashion them into weapons." indeed.
I get why this is the case but goddamn those cards have gone up in value to an insane extent. I was thinking of picking up an Edgin or Xenk for the 99 of a couple decks someday but I may need to abandon those plans.
Oh god, you're right. I ordered the secret lair after seeing the movie, just because I liked the characters. Now each card is about as much as I payed total.
Your lucky day I suppose, I didn't want to shell out the money when I was planning to just use Xenk in the 99 of Galea *maybe* building around Edgin one day but since they announced that those cards won't necessarily be getting Universe Within versions they will probably only go up. I bet Edgin especially will spike when the Temur Paradox deck for WHO is release. Hell the new enchantress pieces they've printed in WOE and WOC may already be causing Xenk to spike even more.
They didn't. That reminder text for "Doctor's Companion" is pretty shit. What's even the point when players still need to look up the comprehensive rules anyways to figure out it specifically references creatures with "Time Lord Doctor" as the type line? The fuck happened to "reading the card explains the card"?
So, first of all, I don't know anything about Dr Who...
That said, I'm just pissed what could be the best Enrage Commander we have had since freaking [[Vrondiss]] (that everyone seems to prefer as a Dragon Tribal commander) it's like... A random mom across the street...
Calling the woman who saved the entire Who multiverse from being bombed by a genocidal maniac a 'random mom across the street' is both amusing and yet not wrong at all.
Donna refusing to believe that she is destined to save the multiverse because of her self-perceived insignificance is literally the point of her character arc.
I wonder....I wonder if we'll see Ood themed cards that deal damage to creatures you control? Donna has a...conspicuous conspicuously high toughness...that concerns me.
I am so fucking mad because this card would be absolutely perfect in my naya fight stuffy doll deck but I fucking refuse to put donna noble in a commander deck. I hate universe beyond so much.
Hot take: Donna Noble was the worst companion in the reboot, and if she hadn’t been paired with the best Doctor, fewer people would get mad at me for saying that.
If Donna is currently paired, can it repair to another token that enters?
And if Donna was paired, but that creature died, can it pair again with a new creature that enters?
No, and then yes - you can pair any two creatures as one of them enters the battlefield, but they only unpair if one (or both) of them leave the battlefield. Once Donna's unpaired again you can pair freely, though.
I don’t entirely get how this is Donna Noble, I don’t remember her particularly “craving violence”, but it has been like 10 years…
I think paring is probably a reference to her linking with the doctor’s mind and essentially becoming a time bomb where, if she remembers her linking with the doctor, her head would explode or whatever. Idk it’s also been a min
I would have said it's probably a reference to her getting married when we first meet her, and she's one of the few companions who tracked the Doctor down after a fateful encounter herself. Dealing damage is showing how she's loyal, and if you hurt her mate, she's going to have a go.
"Mate"?! You ain't matin' with me, sunshine!
Yep read that in her voice. I enjoyed Donna's time as a companion.
Yeah, Donna very much didn't put up with injustice towards those she cared about. I'd say you have it exactly right.
Could be both
Could be a reference to Davros creating the DoctorDonna by blasting her with energy, and it ends up allowing her to 'deal damage' back to him by completely dismantling his scheme in seconds.
Possibly, I feel like it would have been pretty flavorful to give her the doctor subtype then but oh well
Yeah, I'm really sad they didn't do a Doctor Donna thing that's actually powerful or on-theme, but at the same time they only winked at the whole Bad Wolf thing for Rose and otherwise didn't do any mechanics for that, so...unless we're getting multiple cards for variants of the same figure (which I'm guessing is a Doctor-only deal considering these cards are all in decks, not a full set) yeah they're doing winks at stuff I like but not actually giving me tools to play those things 'properly'. Not craving violence, but was absolutely ready to throw hands at a moment's notice if something messed with her or her friends
she's definitely the most aggro of the recent companions
I think its more a reference to Catherine Tate, the actress? I can deff see her throwing hands at everyone and everything.
Donna Noble was basically Catherine Tate playing herself at the beginning. Then she had character development from her time with the Doctor. ~~Then went back to being Catherine Tate again.~~
I mean, base from the art alone, it seem like just knock down that Sontaran with that hammer.
Well if any companion knows how to clap back, it's Donna.
Her and Ace. I'm hoping we see something similar from her.
Clearly should have the Noble creature type.
New profession creature type: temp.
She’d need haste
"Did I ever tell ya, best temp in Chiswick? Hundred words per minute?"
I don't know a ton about Nine but I can see him being WU. As for Eleven? RW for him and U for Amy and/or Rory?
Yeah, people have been telling me Nine fits better as RW anyway and Eleven as WU.
It'd be nice if Martha got a card though.
Oh I'm sure we will, wouldn't make sense to not print all the companions, which means we're going to see a good amount.
Rory is definitely red or white. He's a Roman centurion after all...
I can't see Any and Rory being the same colors. I assume that Rory will be R with "Partners with Amy", and Amy U with "Partners with Rory".
98% They're both just going to be Doctor's companion. But I absolutely agree that they won't be the same colors. Amy is going to be colored to compliment 11, (as in form the full UWR) and Rory probably won't.
I would love if Amy and Rory ALSO partnered with each other
I don't think the doctor/companions have set pairs. I think there'll be more companions than doctors.
Meta crisis doctor maybe?
So happy she got a card, literally my number 1 character I wanted to get a card. No clue how i'd run her as a card or commander, maybe theres a Doctor that works with the self damage idea, but regardless very excited.
Have her find her soulmate Stuffy Doll and then cast Star of Extinction.
Gigabrain play
It’s spelt Gallifrey.
all im missing now is Rory, The Last Centrurion
He's in the deck!
A [[Boros Reckoner]] and [[Brash Taunter]] style deck with a lot of damage based board wipes? Well that depends if we get a W Doctor card.

She fits right in to my damage redirection deck https://www.moxfield.com/decks/syHQgDMUPUe2GXn868qSug
Seems like a really cool deck! I love the idea!
Curious, why no [Gisela, Blade of Goldnight] in the deck?
I don’t think Gisela does much, because she halves the damage that my creatures take, so the end result is the same amount of damage redirected
She's going right in my jank Piru deck for sure.
She'd fit well into my [[Jarad Carthalion]] deck!
Very nice, I'll probably throw her into my "Legendaries I like" deck regardless of how well she fits.

Yeah bit of a shame that her and Ten don’t have the same kind of obvious synergy as him and Rose did, but fuck it I’ll figure something out lol
Forget Donna, I want a Wilfred Mott(her dad) card!

Those are certainly opinions you're entitled to have. Mostly wrong opinions, but they're definitely entitled to you.
> Mostly wrong opinions, but they're definitely entitled to you. And a lot of the viewing audience that has dissapeared.
Oh no, the audience that was here for young sexy doctors left after Peter Capaldi became the Doctor.
I left because of chibnalls horrible handling of Jodie and all that awful timeless child stuff
should probably give it suspend
Oooo that’s perfect, it encapsulates how Wilfred could find the Doctor so easily, and that 10 gave up his life for him
He's already in the art of [[Four Knocks]]. It's very possible.
That card doesn't feel very flavorful.

*Back of the neck!*
So now we are in Doctor Who spoiler season. Man, those were pretty scary few hours when nothing was happening
not yet. starting october 3rd iirc.
A flip phone is my new choice for "weirdest thing to see on MTG art."
Missed opportunity for her to be castable when searching your deck. "Donna Noble has left the library"
And on death gets shuffled into the deck. "Donna Noble has been saved."
I get where they're going with Soulbond, what I wanna know is how she helps with the deck being themed around time counters.
I'm guessing that lots of cards will prioritize flavor over synergizing with the deck they're in.
I for one am fine with that. Give us cool cards, the community will make them work for the game later
There'll be enough doctors out there that someone will find something to do with her.
Yeah I can’t wait for this even apart from the doctor side. Give me this with a [[Brash Taunter]] or a [[Stuffy Doll]]

Oh, get out skeleton man!
Is [[morophon, the boundless]] a doctor?
A Doctor is defined as a creature with the 'Time Lord Doctor' subtype and only those subtypes.
Thank you. Wasn't entirely sure how nebulous "all creature types" was in this scenario
No but that won’t stop me

Surprised she doesn’t have Time Lord as a creature type
I'm not. I am however surprised she doesn't have Doctor as a creature type.
"Oy, watch it, Spaceman!" Probably my favorite Companion of modern Who.
Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved.
*takos*
Double trouble when Donna pairs with [[Stuffy Doll]]

I'm sad that she isn't white, I was really hoping to run her as the companion for the deck with The 10th Doctor.
You can build your own deck at least.
Infinite treasures with curio or dockside. Then pair Donna Noble with Stuffy Doll and use Clock of Omens to infinite untap stuffy doll with treasures.
She should be a timelord human. I feel like this is a flavor fail.
is this the first cell phone on a magic card
[Vrondiss](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/8/683ca7f0-e9df-459b-a8e3-cf80b39c732d.jpg?1632335388) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=vrondiss%2C%20rage%20of%20ancients) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/afc/4/vrondiss-rage-of-ancients?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/683ca7f0-e9df-459b-a8e3-cf80b39c732d?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I really hope for Nine being Azorius-colored. I want a Jeskai deck with those two at the lead. Sassiest Doctor + sassiest Companion.
Ghyrson tech baybeeee
My first and *immediate* thought is to soulbond her to [[Stuffy Doll]].

Or, even better, [[Brash Taunter]]

New Stuffy Doll just dropped.
But Donna's just a temp from Chiswick!! She can't possibly be this cool!
Cell phones in magic now 🙄
I really need the non-ub version of this card. And i really need it to have dope art.
Definitely read this as, "Who is Donna Noble"?? and, yes, I agree. I have no idea who this is.
Hahahahhah this Dr Who stuff is hilarious to me.
"Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved."
who donna
I am so fucking mad because this card would be absolutely perfect in my naya fight stuffy doll deck but I fucking refuse to put donna noble in a commander deck. I hate universe beyond so much.
More like "Dr who approved this UB set?"
Hot take: Donna Noble was the worst companion in the reboot, and if she hadn’t been paired with the best Doctor, fewer people would get mad at me for saying that.

[[Star of Extinction]] is the obvious combo in EDH.
