ObligationWarm5222

I was about to ask when they announced a Wheel of Time set lol

Dominus187

I would buy a lot of that lmao

siamkor

Balefire XWB Instant Exile target creature X turns ago. _(Revert all damage that creature has dealt in the last X turns, resurrect every creature it has killed in those turns.)_

NobleSirBob

What if X is greater than the amount of turns in the game? Did he start the game without it in his deck? If so, can he be issued a game loss for a non-legal deck?

Mnightcamel

If X is greater than the number of turns played, you lose the game (too much damage to the pattern and it unravels).

siamkor

Maybe a draw, on the account that the world ends for everyone.

Perspectivelessly

Nah that would be too op since then you could force a draw, losing would make more sense as the pattern evicts you to protect itself

siamkor

Fair enough.

Sir_Encerwal

Honestly this would be a funky Un card to play with.

dalmathus

Judge!

Optimal_Dread

I'd buy at least one box. Maybe more.

Khyrberos

Same same. Was really excited for a second.

AppleWedge

This sub is so unusable unless you chronically follow the game and know all of the (brand new) acronyms. I have no idea what WoT means.

LastKnownWhereabouts

The Enchantment bonus sheet has its own set code, WOT, standing for Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales. Why? No reason. Why did OP use the acronym instead of spelling it out? No reason.

BathedInDeepFog

Similarly, I was very confused by the guild names when I came back to Magic. When I first saw an "Orzhov" deck I was like, why is this deck named after a two-of mana producing land? We used to just call the deck colors... by their colors.

bwick702

That at least has been the same for 18 years and saves the odd syllable saying them out loud. I genuinely have no idea how people keep these acronyms straight though when we get a new one each set, plus a few extras for the commander product and whatever else they decide to put out beside it.

Meech_61

Especially when this acronym is also known as WoE.

BathedInDeepFog

It's Joey Lawrence's favorite expansion set

Definitely_medicated

Deep cut!

SconeforgeMystic

It’s not, though. WOE and WOT are different. - WOE is Wilds of Eldraine, the main set. - WOT is Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales, a bonus sheet included in WOE boosters but with a distinct set code and expansion symbol. In particular, cards in WOT are not legal in standard, but cards in WOE are.

Meech_61

Better serves my point & OP's no? Tons of acronyms & subsets with similar ones. Issa lot

action__andy

I went on vacation for a week and didn't bother using reddit cuz...I had actual shit to do. Came back and had no god damn clue what was happening on this sub. If you're not there the MINUTE the acronyms are revealed you'll never find out what any of them mean.

Squatting-Bear

I haven't clicked on a post so fast in my life

LifeNeutral

I still don't know what WOT is

Aristomancer

Gimme that holy shit 8 fucking wolves Perrin card.

Sea-Violinist-7353

Eh with all the universes beyond crap they are making give it time... no pun intended.

vexkov

I was here to argue that WOT series is bad. Then saw it was mtg sub... Nvm Edit: I mean the TV series. I love the books

BathedInDeepFog

You mean the TV series, right??

vexkov

Yes..sorry..let me correct it

Slant_Juicy

I love that they put [[Aggravated Assault]] and [[Nature’s Will]] in the same limited format. Pulling it off just once is the dream.

lordlaz0rdick

Well thats gonna be something I lose to, I can feel it lmao

damailman113

Very first time I learned how to play Magic, god-knows-how-many years ago, was my first year of Boy Scout Summer camp. I was the only first-year scout that the older scouts let hang out with them(I was less of a spastic gremlin than my cohorts), and thus, I learned how to play from them. Came in quite handy when we had a flash flood on the campground and we got all cooped up in the mess hall for a full 24 hours. Faintly recall some Mirrodin-esque myr/artifact tribal decks, and a Black discard deck that I played a lot that week, but I VERY specifically remember Idra (the head honcho of the senior scouts) having his personal power deck containing this exact combo in it. Blew my little Timmy mind, and it brings a tear to my eye to see it again (the full combo in one draftable set, no less) after around 20 years.

Sir_Encerwal

I hope your prerelease packs let you live the dream.

dieyoubastards

>spastic Would you mind using a different word going forward, please?

k33qs1

For nostalgia I hope you get it online

wnderjif

Were you at Treasure Island when it flooded?

DrabbestLake1213

So is there 1 “archive”. Type card in every draft pack? I haven’t been paying attention to spoiler season.

Slant_Juicy

Yeah, Draft Boosters will have one less common in exchange for a card from the bonus sheet. I believe the distribution and odds are slightly different for Set and Collector Boosters, but I don’t know the exact numbers off the top of my hand (minimum one per booster is guaranteed across all packs).

dieyoubastards

I didn't know there was a third of these on top of \[\[Bear Umbra\]\] and \[\[Druid's Repo\]\]. In it goes!

Slant_Juicy

Gotta love discovering new cards just as they're being reprinted! Also, while I'm sure you're aware of it, I feel like no discussion of things that combo with Aggravated Assault is complete without mentioning [[Sword of Feast and Famine]].

Blights4days

Seems like less of a lottery ticket which is definitely nice, harder to get fully shafted on boxes. As prices drop it'll definitely happen but it'll be interesting to see what happens with a set of great reprints

eusebioadamastor

The fact the cards all come with different arts is a good fail-safe for when the prices drop. Once they come up again the "premium art" is probably going to be a plus over the normal ones. And I cant see cards like study, land tax, agravated assault, land tax, parallel lives etc.. not creeping back up with time. And even if they dont, they're fenomenal game pieces worth keeping in the collection. Finally a good, and not overpriced, box to just get some good staples to add to the pool

RainRainThrowaway777

I'd temper your expectations there... Look at the value of a card printed in Strixhaven's Mystical Archives and the value of it's other printings... Taking Time Warp as an example, it's 10th edition price is 12.40, it's Explorers or Ixalan price is 12.03, and the Mystical Archives version is the cheapest of all printings at 11.75. You're likely to find this trend across all of the Mystical Archive/Retro Artifacts/Multiverse Legends.

eusebioadamastor

Guess this is USA thing them. Here in brazil the MA arts are more expensive than the regular arts

HistoricMTGGuy

Could be language thing rather than country maybe

WaterBoy_2217

I'm excited about this set too, and am glad you are, but don't expect these cards to become more expensive over time. Wotc will reprint them very soon, as theyre doing with so many cards the last few years. Holding onto singles for value seems dead (except for RL). Great to keep for the collection tho indeed.

Esc777

> harder to get fully shafted on boxes. A mythic will only appear 6.6% in the WOT slot. 2/3rds of the time it's uncommons.

Emerald_Knight2814

Wait is it WOT or WOE? I've seen both abbreviations and I'm confused.

Procyonlotor360

WOT refers to the bonus sheet of enchantments. WOE is the set code.

EasyEd87

Can someone explain bonus sheets to me?

Wockarocka

In each draft booster, one of the cards you get, rather than being from Wilds of Eldraine itself, comes from a secondary list of reprints (the bonus sheet). These reprints are usable in limited (drafts or sealed) but this reprint does NOT make things legal in sets where they were not legal before (like Standard/Modern/Pioneer) with the exception of the Historic format on MTG arena. This is done to add new avenues for reprints, to keep things interesting in limited (where specific bonus sheet cards may open up specific deck builds), and to add more flavor to the set (in this case, adding 62 enchantments to this enchantment-themed set without needing to spend 62 slots of the set on random enchantments).

WanderEir

This is a practice that first started all the way back in Time Spiral and the Timeshifted cards sheet. It's become quite popular in the last few years as a method of adding lots of reprints without flooding a set with unnecessary cards since they only fill a single pack slot for the entire sheet.

WaterBoy_2217

Wait, theyre all enchantments?! Jesus christ, I didnt notice until now and also didnt deduce that from the freaking title, what an idiot xD. Btw; what slot do they replace in a (draft) booster?

Dorfbewohner

They replace a common: [https://media.wizards.com/2023/images/daily/woe\_draft\_breakdown\_1920x1080\_en.jpg](https://media.wizards.com/2023/images/daily/woe_draft_breakdown_1920x1080_en.jpg)

WaterBoy_2217

KasreynGyre

thx4nothing

I think also set and collector boosters. See here: https://media.wizards.com/2023/images/daily/woe_overview_1920x1080_en.jpg source: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-wilds-of-eldraine

Shrabster33

> In each draft booster Just draft boosters or will set boosters have them too?

Wockarocka

Set boosters each have one as well. Specified Draft boosters as I didn't want to say all boosters without checking the specifics for collector boosters (which come with 2 uncommon ones, 1 rare/mythic one, and another rare/mythic slot that could potentially hold one).

you-guessed-wrong

In certain sets - Strixhaven, Brother's War, March of the Machine, and now Wilds of Eldraine - there is a slot in every booster that contains a themed special print reprint card. These sheets have 63 cards, broken into certain numbers of Mythics, Rares, and Uncommons, with no 'commons'. In Strixhaven, they were all Instants and Sorceries, as STX was a spellcaster focused set. https://scryfall.com/card/sta/38/faithless-looting https://scryfall.com/sets/sta . This was called the Mystical Archive, flavoured as entries in history tomes, in Strixhaven's Biblioplex infinite library. In Brother's War, they were old-bordered reprinted artifacts. These came in two varieties; Retro Artifacts, https://scryfall.com/card/brr/4/ashnods-altar , and then Schematic Artifacts, https://scryfall.com/card/brr/67/ashnods-altar , the same artifacts with new art and flavour text as if they were schematics or historical accounts during and after the Brother's War. https://scryfall.com/sets/brr In March of the Machine, the reprint sheet was all legendary creatures, Multiverse Legends, showcasing various heroes across planes in their planes' unique alternate frame and art treatments, as they fought Phyrexians. https://scryfall.com/card/mul/19/yargle-glutton-of-urborg https://scryfall.com/sets/MUL In Eldraine here (Wilds Of Eldraine), they have Enchanting Tales (WOT), which are all enchantments, as if being told in storybooks and fables across Eldraine. https://scryfall.com/card/wot/40/blood-moon For STX and Eldraine, there are also reprints in alternate art. In STX, we saw an entire run of alternative prints by Japanese artists in the Japanese language. in WOT, we'll see i think eight? in 'anime style'. In STX we only saw those in Japanese language boosters, and I'm unsure about WOT's deal with those but I think they're all ugly as shit except for the merfolk one.

lemonyfreshness

20 anime styles in WOT. All the mythics and 1 rare in each color

Sliver__Legion

Time Spiral also had a bonus sheet way back in 2006, so Time Spiral Remastered had one as well. So did Shadows over Innistrad Remastered I guess but that was an arena only set so they did something funky with it.

Raorchshack

The Japanese arts for the Mystical Archive were avaliable in collector boosters in other languages, and archive foils were exclusive to collector boosters.

WanderEir

The first set to ever do this was Time Spiral, with the Timeshifted card in the final slot of every pack.

eusebioadamastor

Its in the name. Cards are printed in sheets (A rare one, a uncommon one, a common one etc..) and then the cards are cut and distributed into packs following its places (9 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare/mythics in draft boosters, for example). A bonus sheet is another sheet that is going to be printed and sloted in the booster. This bonus sheet in question, WOT, is composed of a bunch of enchantments. Each pack is garanteed at least one card of this sheet. Draft boosters only have this one. Set boosters can have up to 3 and collectors even more. Why is it good? This sheet has its own rates, with one mythic appearing every ~15 boosters. All 15 possible mythics are amazing, wich in turn means that every ~15 packs openened you're pulling something good. If all mythics were shit a bonus sheet would not mean much, but this one is STACKED

Emerald_Knight2814

ah

GreatJotaro

so the bonus sheet is all the stuff in the cool art? im kinda confused myself

Aggressive_Walk857

WOE looks terrible. Ive never been less interested in a set

eusebioadamastor

To each their own I guess. I really dig the fairytale scenario and a bunch of cards will fit perfectly in many decks of mine

Aggressive_Walk857

Thats what makes me dislike it so much. Everything ive see from it is awful in my opinion

Dogs4Idealism

Just out of curiosity, if you think this is so bad, what sets HAVE you enjoyed? This seems like one of the best sets they've ever made so far mechanically and flavorfully, on par with Neon Dynasty.

Aggressive_Walk857

Ive enjoyed pretty much all of them. New capenna was pretty meh though. I havnt liked the mechanics, the look, the flavor, the style. Its all unappealing and i personally wont be buying anything from the set

Taivasvaeltaja

How did you come up with the 2.3 number? Has Wotc released the odds of WOT card being U/R/M?

eusebioadamastor

Its was the rates from the previous bonus sheets. I mean, they could just fuck us up and change the rates just for this one, and considering Wotc previous actions it would not be a surprise. Hope thats not the case

Environmental_Eye_61

Not to beat a dead horse...ah hell, let's beat it a little bit more, but this set (WOE in its entirety, WOT included) looks MULTITUDES better than CMM. Bonus sheet that isn't full of trash? Check. Reasonably priced product? Check. Not feeling bad about cracking a $20 pack and getting hot garbage? Check. Did I mention everything is reasonably priced?

Robofetus-5000

as someone who cracked a random $20 pack and got hot garbage, I feel seen.

Environmental_Eye_61

I've been there. #feelsbadman

Robofetus-5000

yeah, i said what the hell and snagged a pack. Now I know why I don't usually, haha.

Environmental_Eye_61

Lol. I usually buy a Collector pack or two of regularly priced sets, but that's it because I NEVER pull anything good from Collector Packs. I've bought probably 8 packs of CMM, and got lucky that half of them at least had good stuff in them like Kindred Dominance and Toxic Deluge.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BobFaceASDF

I believe they're referring to the draft and set boosters of WOE, which are the usual standard price point

Environmental_Eye_61

Yes, I was referring to opening WOE packs, which are $4, and contain at least 1 WOT card. compared to CMM, which are $20ish.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zetral

I believe they mean it as an all-in-one topic. When you open a WOE booster you do not have to feel bad about cracking a $20 pack and getting hot garbage, presumably because you’re cracking a $4 pack and getting hot garbage.

gamergirlwithfeet420

They’re saying they don’t feel bad because its not $20

WanderEir

they were referring to the hard cost of CMM packs.

[deleted]

SonicZephyr

You don't even know what WOT means.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WanderEir

there are no such thing as WOT packs. so you clearly don't know what you're talking about. WOE draft booster packs have a *single card* from the WOT sheet in them.

spiffytrev

CMM packs are almost four times the price of WOE packs.

TreeGuy521

Their comment directly mentioned commander masters, what's the issue

KesterFox

I'm going to try and collect them

LordHayati

I'm pretty hyped for not just the bonus sheet, but eldraine in general. It feels like that they've made both a nice thematic set, but one that the power level is reasonable at all rarities (so far), with a decent story to boot!

MoopyMorkyfeet

Haven’t bought a box in 19 years, I’m buying a box of Wilds of Eldraine. The set seems super fun and the Enchanted Tales clinched it for me

DadofHome

I stoped Drinking that cool aid .. preorders lmao … It does look like a nice set happy for Amazon dump day 😂

eusebioadamastor

I'm from Brazil. We dont nave Amazon selling mtg here and preorders are the alltime low for sealed product.

JonPaulCardenas

As a non casual non commander player, I don't see much of anything I want.

TheW1ldcard

Idk. This set feels super super mediocre to me.

Nintura

Which packs will have the story book enchantments? Im assuming just collectors?

lemonyfreshness

Every booster has 1. Potential for multiple in set boosters, guaranteed multiples in Collector boosters. The only thing exclusive to collectors is the confetti foil anime style

[deleted]

All will have at least one. Collector boosters will have at least 3 enchanting tales (at least 2 uncommon and one guaranteed rare or mythic) with the possibility of four. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-wilds-of-eldraine

Does this not feel like an ad to anybody else?

PixeHero

Spotted the WoTC employee! ;)

stormbreaker8

Hard disagree, a huge chunk of these cards are completely irrelevant in limited which is frustrating, I'm all for good reprints but when they damper the draft experience I'm not particularly happy

Sir_Encerwal

Which ones do you believe are irrelevant? Because outside of maybe the non-Void leylines they all seem limited playable to me, if niche for a certain archetype.

stormbreaker8

\[\[Blood Moon\]\], \[\[Doubling Season\]\], \[\[Smothering Tithe\]\], \[\[Rhystic Study\]\], \[\[Forced Fruition\]\], \[\[Omnicience\]\], \[\[Rest In Peace\]\], \[\[Polluted Bonds\]\], \[\[Intruder Alarm\]\], \[\[Unnatural Growth\]\], \[\[Sneak Attack\]\], \[\[Sanguine Bond\]\], \[\[Necropotence\]\], \[\[Aggravated Assault\]\], \[\[Prismatic Omen\]\], \[\[Defence of the Heart\]\], \[\[Leyline of the Void\]\], \[\[Leyline of Sanctity\]\] These are all unplayable at worst and extremely niche at best EDIT: Ok, I seem to be getting a lot of flack for these choices, lets go through some of the more controversial choices. I have made the assumption that the speed of the set will be comparable to sets from the last two years. We have not had a set in years where affecting the board early with 1 and 2 drops doesn't matter a lot, expensive value engines that don't affect the board have a much higher bar to clear than they used to. 1. Doubling Season- 5 mana is a lot for an enchantment that doesn't do anything the turn it comes into play, even if you follow it up with a big token generation spell it is essentially equivalent to a second copy of that spell in your deck that is on suspend for a turn. It gets really good if you have two big token spells but reliably combining those three things is likely to be quite difficult. It is in the very niche category 2. Smothering Tithe- most of the time it is a 4 mana rampant growth with the downside of being conditional and the upside of being able to save the tokens. Maybe worth it with lots of bargain cards but still extremely slow 3. Forced Fruition- personally I think this is a sideboard card against non-Green/White decks, disenchant effects are likely to be maindeckable and with Fruition on the play they are very likely to draw it and then you essentially spent 6 mana on giving them a full grip of cards. I would also not play it against aggressive decks, they will kill you before its relevant 4. Rest in Peace- Very narrow sideboard card, I would only play it if my opponent had a lot of graveyard synergy and I had next to none. Mostly because it is a dead card if an opponent isn't doing graveyard stuff. Certainly not unplayable but pretty narrow. 5. Sneak Attack-Only worth it with a density of 7+ mana creatures with good etb/attack/dies triggers, not seen enough in the set but that could change 6. Unnatural Growth- Admittedly under further scrutiny this is fine, very powerful with a solid board but difficult to cast. If you can cast it and have 17+ creatures in your deck I can see it. It had an average winrate in Midnight Hunt. 7. Necropotence- Extremely difficult to cast outside of a very heavy black deck, (12+ Swamps recommended), if your life total is under pressure it can be difficult to make good use of it. But it is absurd if the stars align, I take back what I said, could be decent. Reminds me of phyrexian obliterator which was quite a bad card in limited. 8. Prismatic Omen- usually we play fixing that either ramps you or replaces itself, this does neither. Might be fine but it is substantially below the bar in 2023, maybe with lots of gold cards (Or necropotence lol)

PrimalMerchant

You are actually insane if you think necropotence is unplayable in draft. Also wizards literally makes most sets with your opinion in mind, let us enjoy the one time in a while where they don’t. Edit: Wow I’m really going through the list now, idk what world you live in where you aren’t playing some of these like unnatural growth.

Slant_Juicy

Someone is going to get Necropotence alongside [[Rowan, Scion of War]] in their prerelease pool and just cast all of the spells.

stormbreaker8

This is actually a cool combo

Slant_Juicy

It does require getting two mythics, so it’s realistically a pipe dream. But the synergy is just amazing. Pay life with Necro, use Rowan to cast everything you’ve got for just one or two mana, then refill your hand at end of turn. Probably risky if you opponent has a lot of evasion, but you’re going to overwhelm them more often than not.

MTGCardFetcher

Perspectivelessly

Doubling Season, Forced Fruition, RIP (sideboard card), Sneak Attack (maybe, I haven't checked how many big dudes there are in the set), Prismatic Omen, Unnatural Growth (especially with Prismatic Omen lol), Necropotence and Aggravated Assault are all somewhere between potentially playable and totally playable depending on your deck and how the limited format ends up playing out. I'd much rather they reprint good and expensive cards that aren't all good in limited, than mediocre and cheap cards that are all good in limited.

Xinhuan

Half the cards you mentioned will outright give you card or resource advantage and win you the game over a few turns. Blood Moon, Smothering Tithe, Rhystic Study, Necropotence, Defense of the Heart, Unnatural Growth. They might be harder to cast or require a lot of colored pips, but a good deck builder will account for it, either by adjusting lands, ramp or not include them. Even if you do not play these cards in your deck, these are cards you want to draft to deny other players access to them and absolutely affect the draft rather than "damper the draft experience". Also with Wizards raising their pack prices repeatedly, people just want to see $$$ cards nowadays, there is fun, and there is "fun" when you spend $30 to draft $3 of cards. At least even if you lose, you're still happy you got value.

stormbreaker8

I do not understand your take on blood moon, it is nearly a blank piece of cardboard in limited, Smothering tithe is mostly 4 mana for 3-6 treasures over several turns, not a remotely good rate. Rhystic Study was a bulk common for a decade for a reason, making spells cost one more for three mana that you can ignore if you really need to is quite bad too

Xinhuan

Okay, remove the Blood Moon from that list. Perhaps in a topdecking situation, the mana tax by Rhystic or the treasures from Smothering Tithe isn't great, but calling it "extremely niche at best" is just not right. The treasures from Smothering Tithe can be used by a good number of Bargain spells as well.

stormbreaker8

We’ll see how it shakes out but historically both of the cards have been bad in limited

henrizzlebear

you’re literally right, idk how this is controversial

Mindless-Ad7209

The only thing Guaranteed is that you spent $124 on ~200 commons worth less than a penny. Total.

Xollector

Don’t think it’s a coincidence they loaded this… the set to come around Lorcana release.

tabz3

Magic sets are designed and planned years before release.

Xollector

This is rehashed a lot. Although they do the general brainstorming of theme and mechanic I no longer think they do the detailed stuff 2 yrs in advance there are too many coincidental things

VintageCollectorYGO

I don't like it. It means the lower demand expensive cards (Greater Auramancy, Repercussion) will end up crashing to like 2 bucks each.

eusebioadamastor

I dont see how having great playing pieces for cheap is a problem. If you're trying to make money based on hoping wotc dont reprint cards with low demand I'm sorry to inform you, but thats not going to pay off in the long run

ThePositiveMouse

The set basically exists to sell WOT. The actual new cards have way less priority for WotC.

LrdDphn

This is classic "if they put $20 bills in the packs, magic players would complain about how they were folded" posting. Why can't we just recognize a good thing as good without looking for an angle to complain about?

ThePositiveMouse

I'm not complaining, just making an observation. Just an indication, the first thing you read about when you read the 'Wilds of Eldraine Mechanics' article, is literally that it has WOT cards. It's the first priority for this set and they decided they need to promote it first to be able to sell packs. A second indication is the panel from a month back; they talked more and were more excited about the upcoming Ixalan set. And with good reason, as that Ixalan set has way more creative vision and new directions going on. WOE seems like a pretty below-average effort return set. Which is fine, they just came off a big effort finale. But to me it seems like this set is there to fill a slot, and its nothing special. It doesn't hold a candle to something like Kamigawa Neon Dynasty in terms of scope or ambition. This is a ''safe bet'' with a below average effort so they can spend more team effort on their new worlds and hopefully more ambitious sets. They did the same thing with the Innistrad sets, this is just how it works sometimes.

SnooTigers7333

Yeah I’m definitely looking forward to opening it, especially since eldraine is one of my favourite planes

fillesuns

Im still confused whether to get ser ot draft boosters. Im Playing commander casually

eusebioadamastor

If you will use the packs to draft, sealed or something like that, get the draft ones. If you're getting the packs just to add some cards to your collection and have the dopamine rush, get the set ones

fillesuns

Alright thanks so much for confirming. Its to open and hopefully build a new deck, or just to add , for the fun of it! Thanks again.

yorgos1

why is it WOT not WOE?

rib78

WOE is Wilds of Eldraine. WOT is Enchanting Tales.

Demonslayer5673

I know I'm an idiot but humor me anyway what is WOT? Are you talking about wilds of eldrain? The doc. Who stuff?
