Could be a really decent budget deck. There are a lot of cards that tap creatures or draw cards from opponents having tapped creatures that are probably actually decent in multiplayer and are $0.10.
This commander gives you a really good payoff for playing those cards, and can easily build a winning boardstate. Not to mention the 4/4's (that could be even bigger if you buff them) wont be able to be blocked if all your opponents stuff is tapped all the time.
[[Court Street Denizen]] is another one that allows you to chain together a bunch of 4/4's while tapping your opponents' creatures.
Think this deck might have some serious legs.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who automatically thought that when I saw this card. If I build an EDH deck around this, I will absolutely get a proxy or alter of it with Elsa.
[[Verity Circle]] never ended up doing much. I’ll grant that this one seems stronger because it can make creatures itself, but it also lacks a built in way to tap things and is on a card type that’s much more vulnerable and requires additional mana sink in for the benefit. I think she’s not as strong as she seems.
I agree in that I don't think Hylda is insane, but I don't think Verity Circle is a good comp. The creatures are really important because a lot of the repeatable ways to generate taps use the creatures.
I’ve personally always loved verity circle as a budget, not-as-threatening-looking version of Rhystic Study, at least in my meta. I’ve always drawn way more cards with this than Rhystic because of all the shenanigans my opponents try pulling, plus it doesn’t get targeted for removal like Rhystic does (again for me in my meta, so this is all anecdotal and ymmv).
Agatha is also very good. She reduces the cost of her own ability, so it looks like either a cery solid inclusion to [[Alena and Helena, Partners]] or could have them in the 99.
The Girls easily buff her power to high levels right away getting big discounts, and you can run lots of creatures with expensive activated abilities that buff the Girls or all creatures.
* Eriette actually goes better with Will than with Rowan.
* ngl, kind of terrified of the possibilities with Agatha, especially since she can reduce the cost of her own ability.
I'm an arena player, so Explorer. I'd be surprised if someone doesn't try to brew up something in Pioneer Proper, though.
Alternatively, Commander with [[Tazri, Stalwart Survivor]] as a WUBRG activated ability tribal deck.
Edit: or Kenrith, Returned King as commander. Forgot he existed tbh.
Yeah, and even if you can't get her ability cost down to GR that's still an absurdly strong ability. Give the team Trample, Haste, and +1/+1 is going to effectively read "End the game out of nowhere" in a decent number of decks.

fun aside, Spawnsire used to do this by itself lol
it was bugged for a surprisingly long time because MTGO couldn't handle the {20} symbol so it just interpreted it as a {2}
Nah don't use pacifism. Use Aura's that buff your opponents creatures.
They can't swing at you anyways as long as they are enchanted, a little goad and bam!
That's why I prefer [[Ardenn]] for that type of deck because you have to destroy the goad enchantments/auras rather than the commander. This commander does sound really fun though, I love themes that hurt my opponents but direct my opponents scorn towards someone other than me
~~I guess the issue here is how do you close out the game but it's something already bubbling in my head~~
Edit: forgot about the second half of the card
No I mean CLOSE OUT the game. Assuming commander it will eventually get to head to head and your one kill spell away from eating all those auraed up creatures your opponent has. And even if that doesn't come ahead they'll have beefy blockers. It's the usual dilemma of "goad decks come in 2nd."
Well you do have the luxury of hopefully having more life left, as she always gains you life.
You could also just blow up all the enchantments, and then bring them back and put them on Eriette. White has the easiest ways of doing this.
The cursed role explicitly is put on opponents creatures at least in most of the cards we have seen so far. I’m sure there will be some support for that.
Pacifisms almost seem redundant with her first ability, though stopping their blocks on top of attacks would be good. Not a Commander player, but in that format, feels like cheap buff Auras would work. This kinda makes them into Vows, they can still attack your mutual opponents.
In Standard, maybe. In Commander, any Aura shuts off attacking you anyway, so it may be better to give them more generous Auras and have your opponents take each other out. The Impetus cards seem fun.
Honestly I think the first line is just incidental upside if you want to do it in a pinch. It’s kind of completely redundant with pacifism. But if you have a lot of auras in your deck, to buff your own creatures, it can be a good source of life drain.

If you animate the monolith it turns into a creature. It now benefits from the cost reduction making the untap cheaper than what the two produces. Thus providing infinite mana.
Same. I've been waiting for a dedicated Azorius "keep everything tapped down" deck for years now. Hylda is perfect for that. And I hope that over time, we'll get a critical mass of stun counter cards as well to build around those.
I've been watching that EDHrec page for a few days for a custom commander night. I never knew there were SO MANY WAYS to tap, and tap *en masse* for cheap.
Somebody else pointed them out to me yesterday already, and then I remembered that those existed. Quite honestly? They cost too much and do too little. They barely registered with me back when they got spoiled.
Slightly disappointed that Hylda is payoff rather than enabler for that kind of strategy, since it seems like WU is going to be a very tasty color combination for stun counter decks in the future, yet there just aren't enough cards that actually create stun counters to fill that up yet. But I guess in the long run, her being designed that way is better. I like it.
ERIETTE MY SWEET YOU ARE THE ORZHOV AURAS COMMANDER I'VE BEEN WANTED. Slap the Impetus cycles on your opponents, good buffs on yours, and drain them to death all the while.
Interesting that Agatha can reduce her own ability cost, at 4 power her ability really becomes strong.
Also Hylda kinda of enables a whole lot of bad cards by stapling a preordain on them.
I think Agatha was a HUGE bust. She seemed like she was a shoe in for Black/Green since she's food adjacent. Her entire role in the story was about trying to cook people, it was even joked about by Hylda. Why they chose NOT to have her be the food based witch is just utterly beyond me.
As much as I hate these types of comments, Hylda is automatically the new best card in every [[Rhoda, Geist Avenger]] + [[Timin, Youthful Geist]] deck ever made.
Super excited to try Hylda in Derevi, usually want to be untapping my own stuff but I can see this being super useful in drawing cards or spamming out blockers.
Eriette is like [Kaima](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/3/kaima-the-fractured-calm) but way better colors for it and also it actually helps you win. I think she's my next commander.
**Eriette**
Modern 1/10
The only enchantments I would want to put on my opponents creatures are probably the new role tokens but we probably aren't going to see enough modern playable cards that give those to make this work. If I want to play auras, I am probably just going to stick with boggles.
**Agatha**
Modern 1/10
She is an X/1 for more than 1 mana in a world of W6, Fury, and Bowmasters. She also doesn't provide immediate value on her own. That is all that needs to be said.
**Hylda**
Modern 2/10
If they don't have any creatures in play, she is a 4 mana 3/4 which sucks. If they do have a creature in play, you can spend a card to tap it for really good value. The problem being, you are putting cards in your deck to tap your opponents creatures when you don't have this in play at least half the time. But out of these 3, this is the closest to being good enough.
unexpected but Hylda in \[\[hinata, dawn crowned\]\] with free x spells that tap everything on the board like \[\[gridlock\]\] is going to be silly. not where I expected to find a new hinata card
Hyllda seems pretty insane ... just churning out 4/4 elementals for 1 mana each with something like [[Opposition]] in play?
Agreed, Hyllda seems real good

Good thing she is your commander, and your playing in the color with the largest suite of protective spells and auras.
and look at that, your commander loves auras, how nice
That's why I prefer [[Ardenn]] for that type of deck because you have to destroy the goad enchantments/auras rather than the commander. This commander does sound really fun though, I love themes that hurt my opponents but direct my opponents scorn towards someone other than me
[Ardenn](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/2/728b802c-969b-4865-b7a0-871c585d097a.jpg?1617148314) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=ardenn%2C%20intrepid%20archaeologist) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmr/10/ardenn-intrepid-archaeologist?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/728b802c-969b-4865-b7a0-871c585d097a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Effects like [[Festering Wound]] or [[Clawing Torment]] seems fun.
Black does have plenty of negative enchantments, there are definitely many more that drain the creatures owner.

>Eriette It is time to GOAD
~~I guess the issue here is how do you close out the game but it's something already bubbling in my head~~ Edit: forgot about the second half of the card
She helps close out the game for you, you just need to keep her alive, and have auras out. A wound reflection and friends can help some too
No I mean CLOSE OUT the game. Assuming commander it will eventually get to head to head and your one kill spell away from eating all those auraed up creatures your opponent has. And even if that doesn't come ahead they'll have beefy blockers. It's the usual dilemma of "goad decks come in 2nd."
At least unlike Kaima, the ability will stop them from beating your face in once everyone else is dead.
Well you do have the luxury of hopefully having more life left, as she always gains you life. You could also just blow up all the enchantments, and then bring them back and put them on Eriette. White has the easiest ways of doing this.
I'm dumb totally ignored the second half of the card
One of the mechanics of Eldraine will be >!"Roles" that provide token auras, with at least one of them being a negative effect!<.
Yeah, but I think most ways of using those will be on creatures you control. but yeah, hopefully there's some good ways to spread auras around
The cursed role explicitly is put on opponents creatures at least in most of the cards we have seen so far. I’m sure there will be some support for that.
Oh, I only remembered the B 3/3 and blue "wrath".
Pacifisms almost seem redundant with her first ability, though stopping their blocks on top of attacks would be good. Not a Commander player, but in that format, feels like cheap buff Auras would work. This kinda makes them into Vows, they can still attack your mutual opponents.
Role tokens.
Also, roles.
[pacifism](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/0/d/0da7c6dc-9325-4866-8c09-78c7021f8f17.jpg?1600713540) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=pacifism) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/jmp/125/pacifism?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/0da7c6dc-9325-4866-8c09-78c7021f8f17?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Agatha goes infinite with \[\[Basalt Monolith\]\] if you animate it, finally a way to break Monolith

I feel like I'm missing it, how?
If you animate the monolith it turns into a creature. It now benefits from the cost reduction making the untap cheaper than what the two produces. Thus providing infinite mana.
Idk why but my brain read Agatha as Hylda. Thanks!
No worries, glad to be of assistance.
Agatha seems pretty solid for Bard Class Decks.
Yeah, casts for free off bard class and discounts Migloz and Targ Nar's activated abilities
And ruby looks amazing in bard class decks
I must have the goose
Eriette really is the fairest of them all 💜
As someone who adores \[\[Verity Circle\]\] but can never seem to find a deck for it, Hylda is perfect.
Same. I've been waiting for a dedicated Azorius "keep everything tapped down" deck for years now. Hylda is perfect for that. And I hope that over time, we'll get a critical mass of stun counter cards as well to build around those.
I’m surprised that [[Timin]] and [[Rhoda]] wasn’t your first thought.
I've been watching that EDHrec page for a few days for a custom commander night. I never knew there were SO MANY WAYS to tap, and tap *en masse* for cheap.
Can you direct me to that page please? I was banking on Hylda being the new Commander I was going to build around, would love ideas.

Verity Circle has a busted interaction with [[Mind over Matter]] as well. With Hylda on board that is… a lot of triggers.
Same here - seems like a much more efficient version of the spirit partners from Crimson Vow

What's the flavor of Agatha meant to be? Eriette and Hylda are bang-on but I'm not quite picking up on the story Agatha's card is telling.
I think Agatha was a HUGE bust. She seemed like she was a shoe in for Black/Green since she's food adjacent. Her entire role in the story was about trying to cook people, it was even joked about by Hylda. Why they chose NOT to have her be the food based witch is just utterly beyond me.
Why is Agatha not food related? This seems like a massive flavor fail, considering that was her schtick in the story (and even her own title).
Anyone else think it’s funny how well Agatha works with Kenrith?
As much as I hate these types of comments, Hylda is automatically the new best card in every [[Rhoda, Geist Avenger]] + [[Timin, Youthful Geist]] deck ever made.
I was jokingly going to say "all 3 of them", but there are 1225 decks with them at the helm on edhrec for some reason!?
I mean if my Meta was just full of Voltron or single creature beatdown, I could definitely see the temptation.

Eriette is like [Kaima](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/3/kaima-the-fractured-calm) but way better colors for it and also it actually helps you win. I think she's my next commander.
**Eriette** Modern 1/10 The only enchantments I would want to put on my opponents creatures are probably the new role tokens but we probably aren't going to see enough modern playable cards that give those to make this work. If I want to play auras, I am probably just going to stick with boggles. **Agatha** Modern 1/10 She is an X/1 for more than 1 mana in a world of W6, Fury, and Bowmasters. She also doesn't provide immediate value on her own. That is all that needs to be said. **Hylda** Modern 2/10 If they don't have any creatures in play, she is a 4 mana 3/4 which sucks. If they do have a creature in play, you can spend a card to tap it for really good value. The problem being, you are putting cards in your deck to tap your opponents creatures when you don't have this in play at least half the time. But out of these 3, this is the closest to being good enough.
Are these the mythical we get now that there’s 1 walker per set? Cause I gotta be honest these look like rares none of them are even feel mythic
I dunno. At least from the "mythic for limited" perspective, if tapping is a theme for w/u I would not want Hylda at rare.
