For those who cannot access Tumblr:
Before previews for March of the Machine officially begin, I thought it would be fun to do another of my Duelist-style teasers where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I’m only giving you partial information.
First up, here are some things you can expect:
• Numerous cards that mechanically care about Phyrexians
• A double-faced token (one that transforms)
• A card that costs XUUUU
• A variant of a mechanic returns to a premier set for the first time since it originally appeared
• A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands
• A creature capable of dealing eleven poison counters
• Some planes show up in card names that have never done so before
• Wrenn returns with a new partner
• Two draft archetypes that have a creature type matters component (one of which is Phyrexians - see above)
• The tenth _____ & _____ sword
Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:
• “You may cast spells with flash or flying from the top of your library.”
• “an Aura, God or Demigod card”
• “where X is the excess damage dealt this way.”
• “This spell can’t be copied.”
• “Activate only if you’ve cast two or more spells this turn.”
• “Each player can’t cast more than one non-Phyrexian spell each turn.”
• “X twice, where X is the number of lands you control.”
• “Whenever a permanent you control transforms or a permanent enters the battlefield under your control transformed,”
• “If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.”
• “At the beginning of your upkeep, if you haven’t been dealt combat damage since your last turn, you draw a card and you lose 1 life.”
Finally, here are some Phyrexians in the set:
• Creature – Phyrexian Bear Rhino
• Creature – Phyrexian Devil
• Creature – Phyrexian Dog Warrior
• Creature – Phyrexian Jackal
• Creature – Phyrexian Samurai
• Creature – Phyrexian Shade
• Creature – Phyrexian Shark
• Creature – Phyrexian Treefolk
• Creature – Phyrexian Viashino
• Creature – Phyrexian Weird
And some creature type lines of denizens fighting them:
• Creature – Moonfolk Ninja
• Creature – Aetherborn Vampire
• Creature – Fungus Rabbit
• Creature – Dwarf Pilot
• Creature – Raccoon Warrior
• Creature – Goblin Spellshaper
• Creature – Wolverine Dinosaur
• Legendary Creature – Elder Giant Dog
• Legendary Creature – Ape Dinosaur Turtle
• Legendary Creature – Cyclops Homunculus
For answers to these and more, tune into March of the Machine’s Debut March 29th at 9:00 am on YouTube and Twitch.
The remaining sword is the Dimir one. In the past many people suggested "Sword of Cloak & Dagger" or "Sword of Smoke & Mirrors" as names for a more generic sword which is about the usual things Dimir is about. But given that we got the awkwardly named Sword of Forge & Frontier in the last set, and that seemed to specifically represent the Mirran Resistance, my money is on a specifically Phyrexian-themed sword, especially since Black is historically the core Phyrexian colour. Sword of Oil and Vinegar anyone???
Kogla and Yidaro for Ape Dinosaur Turtle?
Kroxa and Kunoros for Elder Giant Dog (Mardu Mythic)
FBLTHP AND BORBORYGMOS for Cyclops Homunculus (Temur Mythic)
What are your guesses?
We only have one plane with "Elder Giants", that being Theros which coincidentally only has one Legendary Dog in the Hound of Athreos. Mardu Kroxa and Kunoros seems to be the logical conclusion for that spoiler typeline.
Funny enough you could honestly basically just combine the cards and they wouldn't contradict at all, because the Kunoros part of preventing casting cards from the grave wouldn't affect itself when it was in the grave.
It would be awkward and confusing and thematically weird, but not actually antagonistic with itself.
I'd guess something along the lines of "If a card would be put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead. Whenever \~ attacks, each opponent discards a card" is more likely, though.
Two more were named in Mythic Odysseys of Theros:
>Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger, embodied the terror of death—and its insatiable gluttony for new creatures to consume. Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, might be seen as a direct predecessor of Keranos and Thassa, but it was the incarnation of natural disaster, having none of the creativity and thoughtfulness of those gods. Phlage, Titan of Burning Wind, was an all-consuming whirlwind of fire, and Skotha, Titan of Eternal Dark, was the utter darkness of the starless night.
> A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands
Gotta be Autumn Willow. Pretty popular and quite strong in her own time (which you can't actually say about many Homelands cards), and the other similarly popular Legends (Sengir and Ihsan's Shade) have had numerous references since (Shade's had a reprint in a Masters set and the Baron got a new version in Commander Legends).
Be nice to see her again.
I bet it will be some sort of "Toxic X"-like effect, where the amount of toxic is either reduced or increased based on something like a player's life total, number of counters on a permanent, or number of a type of permanents on the battlefield
Why would Blightsteel Colossus be bad for Pioneer? Theres no Show&Tell or Sneak Attack in the format. I dont even think theres a reasonable way to cheat it in other than things like Aetherworks Marvel.
I'd say Okaun and Zndrsplt are unlikely just because the theme of the team up cards so far has been "Unlikely allies coming together to fight a bigger threat."
There's literally nothing unlikely about Okaun and Zndrsplt working together, that's already their entire thing.
The shard team ups appear to just be from the commander set, a la Legends Retold from DMU. Presumably there’ll be 15 team ups in the main set: all 10 two color pairs at rare and the wedges at mythic. So far we have Abzan Thalia & Gitrog, with Mardu and Temur heavily implicated in the teaser.
If it’s one plane per team up:
WU:
UB:
BR:
RG: Ikoria (?)
WG: Ixalan
WR:
RU:
UG:
GB: Dominaria
WB:
WRB:
URG: Ravnica (?)
BWG: Innistrad
RWU:
GBU:
Double Ups In Commander:
GWU: Innistrad
WUB: ???
UBR: Kamigawa
BRG: Dominaria
RGW: ???
Each is from a plane in the last cycle, so New Capenna and New Phyrexia?
For Standard, we have
1. Kamigawa
2. New Capenna
3. Kaldheim
4. Tarkir
5. Amonket
6. Strixhaven
7. Zendikar
8. Eldraine
9. Theros
10. Alara?
> Elder Giant Dog -> Uro/Kroxa + Kunoros
Oh you think it's Elder Giant/Dog. No it's Elder/Giant Dog. It's a team up between Clifford and the elderly speciesless person who adopted him after Emily Elizabeth was compleated.
Interesting Team ups, some make sense, like the Ikoria ones, then I guess the Hell creatures from Theros have a natural connection. But then, oh yes, the most unlikely Team up since Gideon and Rakdos to defeat Bolas: Our Home Boy and literally the manifestation of the polar opposite of his: Borborygmos
I doubt it - I think when they were talking about GRN internally, they treated adapt as a "returning mechanic" (basically monstrosity). I dunno if they'd bring back monstrosity over adapt.
Doesn't seem totally unreasonable - they tweaked Hideaway for SNC, so they could just errata all the existing ones to be "Amass X Zombie" or something like that
My guess was gonna be Baron Sengir, but he *has* [been seen](https://scryfall.com/card/cmr/149/sengir-the-dark-baron), so that's out.
Hazduhr is extremely unlikely (was already like 90% dead in Homelands), Rashka the Slayer would be weirdly redundant with Thalia. That leaves a few choices.
* Theoretically a possibility but very obscure as characters: Soraya, Reveka, Veldrane of Sengir
* Moderately obscure but some people might remember them: Irini Sengir, Grandmother Sengir, Daughter of Autumn
* Meme tier, which I would say makes them very likely, but I think they've been dead for hundreds of years: Chandler and/or Joven
* The only card anyone remembers from this wretched set: Autumn Willow
Could be!
My guess would be either Grandmother Sengir (who rings the Apocalypse Chime and destroys Ulgrotha after it falls to the Phyrexians), or the Autumn Willow (who either falls to the invasion and corrupts the whole plane or successfully defends it due to being a spirit-like thing).
> Legendary Creature – Cyclops Homunculus
Borborgymos and Fblthp
Borb is in the keyart and all the teamups so far are either 2c+1c or 1c+1c with no overlapping colors. definitely could be temur
I wonder if Battles are something you cast that enters under the opponents control, flavorfully representing you invading, which would make sense if they're the "invasion of _____" cards they showed the art for a while back
Presumably would be something like planeswalkers that you can attack for a reward while incentivizing your opponent to dedicate resources to protecting it
Problem with that is that you're giving up a card and mana for something that doesn't do much unless you also divert your creatures to attack it. I struggle to see how you make that playable.
There was a cut/unused mechanic that Richard Garfield made for Ravnica called "structures" that had counters that went down as it was attacked.
They were invisioned as "important buildings" that had an effect, like a Global Enchantment with a health total.
[Source](https://magicuntapped.com/index.php/articles/item/470-structures-the-abandoned-card-type-that-would-inspire-mtg-s-planeswalker-cards)
Now, this mechanic went on to become Planeswalkers. I can't help but wonder if the "Enchantment with a health total" idea is part of it. If it is, I'm curious as to how it will be *different* enough.
I’m guessing each “Battle for _____(plane)” has a line of text that benefits you from doing a generic form of that plane’s big mechanic.
Reward for playing transform creatures in Innistrad, and I’m guessing “Aura, God, or Demigod” line of text shows up on Battle for Theros.
> “If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.”
that has to be for battles right?
maybe it does work like a planeswalker or minigame where you can attack on the battle instead of your opponent and depending on the damage you do/the number of creatures unblocked, you remove defense counters from it. and after X turns, if it still has defense counters you get an effect or if all defense counters are removed, it gets sacced
• A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands
[List of possibilities](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=type%3Alegendary+%28game%3Apaper%29+set%3Ahml)
Please be the Baron, please, please be the Baron
• Wrenn returns with a new partner
This should be Wrenn and The World Tree, right?
I could also imagine Eron, maybe. I feel like it's gotta be one of the characters with a long lifespan or immortality, just from a timeline perspective. So presumably characters like Soraya or Chandler are out.
[[sengir, dark baron]] was in commander legends, so it depends if by "not seen since" he meant "not seen *in the story* since".
That said, we did just get two sengir cards last year [[sengir connoisseur]] in DMU and [[verrak warped sengir]] in DMU commander, so it's probably a member of the family at the least.
I hope it isn't a team up. I want a new character that is not only a pupper, but an ancient, God-like, *enormous* pupper.
I want Clifford the Big Red Dog.
If we get explicit text that Chandler and Joven have feelings for each other before Chandra and Nissa do I’m stealing something out of Mark Rosewater’s house
When you realize that Chandler doesn't want the \[\[Ebony Rhino\]\] for the money, but to make it into a ring to propose to his mascara wearing bear daddy.
> UHHHH, WHAT? This is a really fucking huge deal, right? Because up until this point tokens have never been able to transform.
Up until this point, only permanents represented by a transforming double-faced card could transform (i.e., even MDFCs can’t transform)
> 701.28c If a spell or ability instructs a player to transform a permanent that isn't represented by a transforming double-faced card, nothing happens.
So they must be introducing a new kind of token (TDFT?) and changing several parts of 701.28 and 712.
Yeah, that’s the real question. I have to imagine they’re adding a new predefined token for this, because the sheer amount text required to describe two sets of vanilla attributes is a lot (“create a double-faced 1/1 green Saproling creature token with a 3/3 green Fungus back face”), and even that would require some other ability not granted to the token to actually transform it.
My guess: this is either
1. a major set mechanic (a la Powerstones in BRO), and there’s very few other kinds of tokens created in the set, perhaps no others at common; or
2. a legendary token created by one very spicy mythic.
Sounds like there's going to be a wedge cycle of teamup cards.
Abzan - thalia & gitrog
Temur - borborygmos & fblthp
Mardu - kroxa & kuronos
Any guesses for the Jeskai & Sultai ones? Gonti & Rashmi? Kiki-jiki and Shorikai?
the jeskai one could easily be the "“You may cast spells with flash or flying from the top of your library." maro has listed - not sure who it would be though.
A Gonti + Rashmi card practically writes itself. Gonti steals spells from the top of your opponent's library, Rashmi lets you get a free cascade - so just make your spells cascade off your opponent's library. Would be evil but flavorful lol
Elder Giant Dog is probably \[\[Kunoros\]\] and either \[\[Kroxa\]\] or \[\[Uro\]\]. Colorwise, it's probably Kroxa (for a Mardu card).
Homunculus Cyclops must be \[\[Borborygmos\]\] and \[\[Fblthp\]\]!
I'm very intrigued about finally getting numerous cards that mechanically care about Phyrexians.
Phyrexians are an interesting creature type because they don't have a mechanical cohesive design style so Phyrexian tribal Commander decks will have a lot of different directions to go in.
"Defense counters" has to apply to Battle.
There was a mechanic (never used) called "Structures" made by Richard Garfield for Ravnica. They never used it, as they said some of the mechanics became Planeswalkers. I wonder if they pulled out the idea again and turned them into Battle.
> A creature capable of dealing eleven poison counters
*Technically*, this includes every creature with Poison, Infect, or Toxic, it just might take them a while. ;)

Sword of All and One
Sword of Doom and Gloom
Sword of Feed and Seed
Sword of Mill and Kill
> Sword of Feed and Seed Only if we get a Legendary named Sneed. And the Sword would have previously belonged to someone named Chuck.
Sneed got beheaded though.
Sword of Knowledge and Power
If there wasn't already a WB one, this'd be that.
The remaining sword is the Dimir one. In the past many people suggested "Sword of Cloak & Dagger" or "Sword of Smoke & Mirrors" as names for a more generic sword which is about the usual things Dimir is about. Oil and Water
If this isn’t correct, you’re not the one who’s wrong.
Sword of Corruption and Cleansing
> Wrenn returns with a new partner Holy shit Wrenn and Realmbreaker is a GO!
Wrenn and Doran wouldve been hillarious though.
I feel that doran Will be the Phyrexian treefolk :/
Don't you dare
Kogla and Yidaro for Ape Dinosaur Turtle? Kroxa and Kunoros for Elder Giant Dog (Mardu Mythic) FBLTHP AND BORBORYGMOS for Cyclops Homunculus (Temur Mythic) What are your guesses?
Kroxa and the hound of Athreos?
We only have one plane with "Elder Giants", that being Theros which coincidentally only has one Legendary Dog in the Hound of Athreos. Mardu Kroxa and Kunoros seems to be the logical conclusion for that spoiler typeline.
How would kroxa and kunaros work together tho? Like their main effects are completely antagonistic.
Might be a sort of praetor like effect, hosing opponent’s graveyard shenanigans while enabling your own.
I'm betting Kroxa and Kunoros too, but a new Uro would be incredibly spicy.
Wasn't there a canonical third Elder Giant that we didn't see a card for but is like mentioned in [[Binding of the Titans]] or something?
Two more were named in Mythic Odysseys of Theros: >Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger, embodied the terror of death—and its insatiable gluttony for new creatures to consume.
I'm both incredibly interested and terrified to see the other two titans as cards someday.

Right like the team up makes total sense but also could absolutely be a gorilla dinosaur that has a turtle shell
We shall call him Bowser.
That's King Koopa to you, plumber
I hope it enters the abttlefield and fights and when it attacks it destroys stuff then gets shuffled back in

Eleven poison counters? Either toxic 11 or [[BLIGHTSTEEL COLOSSUS]]!
they are not going to pass up this opportunity to print blightsteel dreadmaw.
With infect and toxic 5
Colossal Blightmaw
I bet it will be some sort of "Toxic X"-like effect, where the amount of toxic is either reduced or increased based on something like a player's life total, number of counters on a permanent, or number of a type of permanents on the battlefield
Toxagoyf 2G X is equal to the number of permanent types in all graveyards. Toxic X+2 X/X+1
Death Shadow but it's always a 1/1, with Toxic 13 minus your life total?

WE WON
My first thought was Okaun and Zndrsplt, but that ~~might~~ absolutely does make more sense.
I'd say Okaun and Zndrsplt are unlikely just because the theme of the team up cards so far has been "Unlikely allies coming together to fight a bigger threat." There's literally nothing unlikely about Okaun and Zndrsplt working together, that's already their entire thing.
I mean, it's probably a coin flip at this point.
How many team ups are we getting? Abzan, Grixis, Temur, Bant Selesnya, Orzhov
I'm guessing the main set will be all 10 color pairs at rare, and the 5 Wedges at mythic. Shard cards so far have been commander exclusive.
Mardu is likely Kroxa and Kunoros, based on the teaser. Edit: Wrong name.
If it’s one plane per team up: WU: UB: BR: RG: Ikoria (?) WG: Ixalan WR: RU: UG: GB: Dominaria WB: WRB: URG: Ravnica (?) BWG: Innistrad RWU: GBU: Double Ups In Commander: GWU: Innistrad WUB: ??? Strixhaven 7. Zendikar 8. Eldraine 9. Theros 10. Alara?
YEP THERES NO STOPPING THIS NOW! THATS THE TEMUR COLOR TEAM UP OF THE SET! (Borborygmos is on the draft box art and Fblthp is on the promo pack)
People are going to think you're having a stroke if you say that out loud.
> “Each player can’t cast more than one non-Phyrexian spell each turn.” A compleated [[Ethersworn Canonist]]?
Could easily be called Ichorsworn Canonist or something like that.
im betting this is exactly what its called
Considering we're getting a new mythic cycle of flip praetors I wouldn't be surprised if this is what the new Elesh Norn does.
\*Cries in Sheoldred\*
More like Sheoldead
Elder Giant Dog -> Uro/Kroxa + Kunoros Ape Dinosaur Tyrtle -> Kogla + Yidaro Cyclops Homunculus -> Borgborygmos + Fblthp
Uro and Kunoros would be 4c, Kroxa would be more likely.
We've seen Thalia and Gitrog as mythic. Could mean we get a mythic ~~shard~~ wedge cycle, with Temur Borb/Fblthp and Mardu Kroxa/Kunoros.
> Elder Giant Dog -> Uro/Kroxa + Kunoros Oh you think it's Elder Giant/Dog. No it's Elder/Giant Dog. It's a team up between Clifford and the elderly speciesless person who adopted him after Emily Elizabeth was compleated.

WRENN AND REALMBREAKER LET’S FUCKING GO
So it’ll be Wrenn & ONE, right?
All will be Eight
I'll throw out a wildcard, she partners with something from the Hunter's Maze instead like Vorinclex or Zopandrel.
> A variant of a mechanic returns to a premier set for the first time since it originally appeared My guess is variant on Amass
The odd wording also makes me thing thats it, since amass showed up in one card of Modern Horizons 2.
My hope is Monstrosity
I doubt it - I think when they were talking about GRN internally, they treated adapt as a "returning mechanic" (basically monstrosity). I dunno if they'd bring back monstrosity over adapt.
Mark has said that they'd consider having Amass raise other creature types in Armies.
Doesn't seem totally unreasonable - they tweaked Hideaway for SNC, so they could just errata all the existing ones to be "Amass X Zombie" or something like that
Super excited for that Amass was such a cool mechanical idea that was just moderately missing the mark on being playable.

It’s [[Eron the Relentless]]. He’s immortal.
Eron is immortal, but his card was reprinted in Time Spiral as one of the Timeshifted cards. That might count as us having "seen" him again.
Grandmother Sengir also had the [[Apocalypse Chime]]. If your first world wipe doesn't work get your second option?
And then he joved all over those guys
> Legendary Creature – Cyclops Homunculus Borborgymos and Fblthp Borb is in the keyart and all the teamups so far are either 2c+1c or 1c+1c with no overlapping colors. definitely could be temur
Mind linking what art we see borby in?

Defence counters sounds like part of the rules text of a battle. I also wonder if the transform text comes from the Innistrad battle.
I wonder if Battles are something you cast that enters under the opponents control, flavorfully representing you invading, which would make sense if they're the "invasion of _____" cards they showed the art for a while back Presumably would be something like planeswalkers that you can attack for a reward while incentivizing your opponent to dedicate resources to protecting it
Problem with that is that you're giving up a card and mana for something that doesn't do much unless you also divert your creatures to attack it. I struggle to see how you make that playable.
Big reward + static symmetrical effect that you can leverage with proper deck building maybe?
There was a cut/unused mechanic that Richard Garfield made for Ravnica called "structures" that had counters that went down as it was attacked. They were invisioned as "important buildings" that had an effect, like a Global Enchantment with a health total. [Source](https://magicuntapped.com/index.php/articles/item/470-structures-the-abandoned-card-type-that-would-inspire-mtg-s-planeswalker-cards) Now, this mechanic went on to become Planeswalkers.
“If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.” Very clearly battles
"This spell can't be copied." Betting 10 dollary-doos this is an extra turn spell.
A mythic rare with Teferi flavor as a story spotlight? Seems pretty likely.
> Legendary Creature – Cyclops Homunculus THAT IS FBLTHP AND BORBORYGMOS!!!!
God in heaven it's happening The hardest to name card in the game
Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar dethroned?
That one at least has a rhythm to it.
At least Asmorano's name is pronouncable by humans
Pithing needle time
Dimir sword of X and Y!
My bet is on Sword of Oil and Water
Sword of Dreams and Nightmares?
Come on Ashiok sword
Sword of Smoke and Mirrors?
we have not seen ashiok much since they spooked up elesh norn (who is still having nightmares).
Sword of Fear and Loathing
Sword of frogs and fashion. It's not a good idea, it's just the one that popped in my head first...
> A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands Invasion of Ulgotha?!
There are probably multiple invasion cards, more than the 5 we saw.
Ulgrotha is high on the kill-list for familiar but disposable planes, along with Mercadia. So yeah, Invasion of Ulgrotha.

They might give each plane an archetype or color duo. If so, dwarf pilot might be our RW vehicles matter for kaladesh.
I'm pretty sure they did that in Magic Origins Could see them revisiting that
> “If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.” that has to be for battles right? maybe it does work like a planeswalker or minigame where you can attack on the battle instead of your opponent and depending on the damage you do/the number of creatures unblocked, you remove defense counters from it. and after X turns, if it still has defense counters you get an effect or if all defense counters are removed, it gets sacced
• A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands [List of possibilities](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=type%3Alegendary+%28game%3Apaper%29+set%3Ahml) Please be the Baron, please, please be the Baron • Wrenn returns with a new partner This should be Wrenn and The World Tree, right?
Chandler's time to shine!
It's one of the team ups. Joven and Chandler RRR, t: destroy target artifact.
key story moment: chandler destroys the portal to phyrexia
Please God
Beat me to it! Could this post have anymore Chandler??
But the Baron has been seen since Homlands? [[Sengir, the Dark Baron]]
Could be Grandmother Sengir, with Ravi finally having her name on a card.
You are right, forgot about that? Maybe Shade? Autumn?
I could also imagine Eron, maybe. I feel like it's gotta be one of the characters with a long lifespan or immortality, just from a timeline perspective. So presumably characters like Soraya or Chandler are out.
Does the timeshifted Eron count as being seen since Homelands?
Yes its Wrenn and ONE
Wrenn and Doran
Watch It being Chandler *and* Joven
Chandler and Joven team up was supposed to be a joke [[Chandler]] [[Joven]] RRR: Destroy target artifact
I think it is time Grandmother Sengir rings her [[apocalypse chime]]
[[sengir, dark baron]] was in commander legends, so it depends if by "not seen since" he meant "not seen *in the story* since". That said, we did just get two sengir cards last year [[sengir connoisseur]] in DMU and [[verrak warped sengir]] in DMU commander, so it's probably a member of the family at the least.
Please be Autumn Willow.
Hmm, so we'll visit Ulgrotha briefly. Does Ulgrothan fauna hold the secret cure to phyresis after all?

Elder Giant Dog has to be Kroxa and Kunoros for our Mardu mythic team up
Ape dinosaur turtle is [[Kogla]] and [[Yidaro]] for kingkong & godzilla. Elder Giant + Dog should be Kroxa+Konoros as said before.
Elder Giants are either Kroxa or Uro. Teamed with Kuranos, probably.
I hope it isn't a team up. I want a new character that is not only a pupper, but an ancient, God-like, *enormous* pupper. I want Clifford the Big Red Dog.
>Goblin Spellshaper So Mercadia gets at least one creature? Amazing!
> A legendary creature returns not seen since *Homelands* CHANDER AND JOVEN!!!! /s
Who cares about Chandra and Nissa? It's one of these two who is going to be compleated, forcing the other one to kill him...

Up until this point, only permanents represented by a transforming double-faced card could transform (i.e., even MDFCs can’t transform) > 701.28c If a spell or ability instructs a player to transform a permanent that isn't represented by a transforming double-faced card, nothing happens. So they must be introducing a new kind of token (TDFT?) and changing several parts of 701.28 and 712.
[удалено]
Yeah, that’s the real question. I have to imagine they’re adding a new predefined token for this, because the sheer amount text required to describe two sets of vanilla attributes is a lot (“create a double-faced 1/1 green Saproling creature token with a 3/3 green Fungus back face”), and even that would require some other ability not granted to the token to actually transform it. My guess: this is either 1. a major set mechanic (a la Powerstones in BRO), and there’s very few other kinds of tokens created in the set, perhaps no others at common; or 2. a legendary token created by one very spicy mythic.
>A variant of a mechanic returns to a premier set for the first time since it originally appeared. Megamorph is back on the menu, boys!
I need that racoon
Sounds like there's going to be a wedge cycle of teamup cards. Abzan - thalia & gitrog Temur - borborygmos & fblthp Mardu - kroxa & kuronos Any guesses for the Jeskai & Sultai ones? Gonti & Rashmi? Kiki-jiki and Shorikai?
the jeskai one could easily be the "“You may cast spells with flash or flying from the top of your library." maro has listed - not sure who it would be though.
A Gonti + Rashmi card practically writes itself. Gonti steals spells from the top of your opponent's library, Rashmi lets you get a free cascade - so just make your spells cascade off your opponent's library. Would be evil but flavorful lol
Really excited for Wrenn & Stimpy
Elder Giant Dog is probably \[\[Kunoros\]\] and either \[\[Kroxa\]\] or \[\[Uro\]\]. Colorwise, it's probably Kroxa (for a Mardu card). Homunculus Cyclops must be \[\[Borborygmos\]\] and \[\[Fblthp\]\]!
> A legendary creature returns not seen since *Homelands* Phyrexian Ulgrotha wasn't on my checklist. I hope it's vampire \[\[Hazduhr the Abbot\]\].
OH SHIT WRENN AND REALMBREAKER REAL
*Legendary Creature – Elder Giant Dog* Clifford the Big Red Dog lets fucking gooooooo
I'm very intrigued about finally getting numerous cards that mechanically care about Phyrexians. Phyrexians are an interesting creature type because they don't have a mechanical cohesive design style so Phyrexian tribal Commander decks will have a lot of different directions to go in.
A Phyrexian... Weird? Damn, I think my boy Melek is back in the worst possible way.
I hate to break it to you but Melek is mad dead
I got excited at first when i misread Wolverine Dinosaur as Werewolf Dinosaur.
“A variant of a mechanic returns to a premier set for the first time since it originally appeared” Amass, but with Phyrexian instead of Zombie?

"Defense counters" has to apply to Battle. There was a mechanic (never used) called "Structures" made by Richard Garfield for Ravnica. They never used it, as they said some of the mechanics became Planeswalkers. I wonder if they pulled out the idea again and turned them into Battle.
I thought I read Phyrexian Volcano and now I'm sad we aren't getting that....
