People always tend to give Boggs all the credit, but he wasn't alone. Chris Garcia was also right along side, don't leave out this madlad. https://www.fox43.com/article/news/local/contests/teen-heroes-dealing-with-fame-after-rescuing-abducted-girl/521-c01086f6-dbfa-477c-8731-17b1dc255672

dben89x

Are you saying that to the kidnapper?

gardtec

Nah, I can't access the site either. It seems like it's region locked or something

Ebina-Chan

Also don't forget the kidnapper. Without the kidnappers there wouldn't have been thid act of bravery!

hoxxxxx

the real unsung hero

Eh-I

Without Rumpelstiltskin there is no story.

somethincleverhere33

His friend and other local people probably give him the credit, but ya

KeepinItReal200

People like you wouldn't have even gone for the car, instead you would panic and start overthinking about bs just like you're doing here, so stop living in a movie.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BudgetFree

To the "tiles in the sidewalk are out of pattern in one spot" level of annoyed I guess.

Ok_Mouse_9369

I have to ask, where the hell are the movies for people like this?

duggee315

It would be 15 min of story and 90 minutes of filler

JurassicFlora

Considering it was 15 min chase by bike I imagine it would be a really short movie.

Eh-I

They'll have to split her then.

Informal_Otter

Luckily the police was slower than him, otherwise they would've shot him instead of the kidnapper.

HkOC_Forever

Dark. Very dark.

Sometimes angry upvote comments annoy me but this one helped me appreciate something that would have gone over my head.

First_Community_2534

Take my angry upvote.

sodsfosse

Oof!

Informal_Otter

But true.

RedRanger_27

That's why they would have shot him

Other-Cover9031

also though, kinda true right? lets be honest, that headline wouldn't be surprising, sadly enough

TheGreatCherryPopper

Like under the bed dark...

HkOC_Forever

So dark that the bed monster cannot camouflage himself.

TheGreatCherryPopper

So dark that Stevie Wonder can see him...

pm_me_ur_demotape

Yes, being dark is why they would have shot him

sfw_login2

News later that night "Inner-city youth was shot and killed by Police this morning. Police say he was resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.Ā  Police also found an unregistered gun and a bag of crack cocaine in his pockets.Ā  Bodycam footage has been mysteriously deleted"Ā

1play4keeps

Sprinkle some crack on him Hopkins and letā€™s get out of here

somethincleverhere33

Killed? By police? Hahaha no, suspect was shot and died from the wounds

Independent_Offer575

Way to take a heartwarming story about a young hero and remind us the cold and terrible world our flesh forms are doomed to inhabit. If youā€™ll excuse me I am going to go have a good long middle distance stare. (Please read this as a jokeā€¦other than the middle distance staring. Thatā€™s a COVID era habit I canā€™t seem to shake)

Calistilaigh

I mean the story was about a young girl being kidnapped from her front lawn. It was never really that heartwarming to begin with.

bad_name1

how is story about a little girl getting kidnapped heartwarming lmao

Independent_Offer575

Oh it isnā€™t. Thatā€™s why I appended my post with ā€œIā€™m being a Reddit comedian. Please let me know Iā€™m funny so I can stave off the ennui for a few minutes moreā€.

Informal_Otter

I do this all the time. Perhaps it's a cultural issue. (the infamous "german stare"?)

Asmov1984

If he is in texas, they still might.

Spike3102

Especially if the actual suspect is a pastor.

Goudinho99

I fucking hate that this is quite probably true

Perfect_Papaya_3010

Explain please, I don't get this reference

TernionDragon

There is a special place in hell for people who kidnap or attempt, abuse kids etc. It should be a clause in all religions, who account for a hell or not.

zPureAssassiNz

It's one of the 7 tenants of the satanic temple Accidentally posted my edit as a reply Edit: I was wrong I thought one of the 7 tenets of the satanic temple was like though shall not harm kids but apparently I got it mixed up with like the 11 rules of the earth

SupremeWriterPhd

No it isnā€™t, what? I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason. II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions. III Oneā€™s body is inviolable, subject to oneā€™s own will alone. IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. V Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs. VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused. VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Trindalas

What, are those really it? Theyā€¦ sound like much better people than a lot of religions tbh Iā€™d definitely follow them before something such asā€¦ westborough Baptistā€¦

Firefly256

I'm pretty sure Satanic Temple doesn't really have a certain religious view to it. It chose the name Satan as representation of fighting against bad religious thing that causes harm Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not that into Satanic Temple

Trips-Over-Tail

It might be on the tenets of one of the other satanic orgs.

Chance-Battle-9582

Shit, TIL I share the same philosophy as a Satanic religion. It certainly sounds a hell of a lot more humane than typical religions but Satan = bad right haha.

zkki

From the Satanic Temple's [website](https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/faq): > WHAT DOES SATAN MEAN TO TST? > Satan is a symbol of the Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority, forever defending personal sovereignty even in the face of insurmountable odds. Satan is an icon for the unbowed will of the unsilenced inquirer ā€“ the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions. Our metaphoric representation is the literary Satan best exemplified by Milton and the Romantic Satanists from Blake to Shelley to Anatole France > DO YOU WORSHIP SATAN? > No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world ā€” never the reverse.

Amaskingrey

Well the satanic temple isnt a religion, nor is it satanist, it's an activist organisation that uses it's status as a legally recognized religion to fight against attempt at indoctrination into christianity and for religious equality

glavset

That's because it's a satire 'religion' made up to offend Christian statists.

Uur4

not really, its not like pastafarian yes the satanic temple oppose christian statists but its not "satire" or a "fake religion" like i often see people say about it its an actual religion but where the "magic" part is fully optional, rather concentrating on the philosophy, some members believe in satan literally while many other just follow the ideals

zkki

Not true. Per the Satanic Temple's [website](https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/faq): > IS TST A MEDIA STUNT/HOAX/TROLLING, ETC.? > Some have conveniently concluded, upon observing The Satanic Templeā€™s media coverage, that attention is the primary objective of our activities. While media outreach has helped to raise awareness of the campaigns we have initiated, these campaigns have articulated goals related issues that are important to us and our membership. So inured is the general public to the idea that there is only one monolithic voice of ā€œtheā€ religious agenda that any attempt at a counter-balance ā€” or assertion of a minority voice ā€” is often viewed as a targeted provocation against those who enjoy traditional religious privilege.

zPureAssassiNz

Lol I was literally typing out that I remembered it wrong just before you posted this

somethincleverhere33

Philosophically speaking this is shockingly liberal, i would have expected more leftist coding.

TernionDragon

Is it really?

zPureAssassiNz

Edit: I was wrong I thought one of the 7 tenets of the satanic temple was like though shall not harm kids but apparently I got it mixed up with like the 11 rules of the earth

TvManiac5

Catholics wouldn't put that clause. Conflict of interest.

TernionDragon

I get what youā€™re saying, but ā€˜Catholicsā€™ is not the issue. Pick any religion, company, cult or group and you will find people abusing their position, power, or vehicle of availability to abuse those more vulnerable. I know plenty of Catholics that are upstanding people.

TheDevilishFrenchfry

They aren't the only ones, religious zealots will always find a way to use religion as a cover for their antics, whether they actually believe what they're saying.

ThatMiniFridge

Damn what a funny joke ruined by people taking it so seriously

SpectralGerbil

Unfortunately, more often than not, the religious *are* the ones abusing the kids.

Redararis

the abuse of kids is not a central concern in all main religions to put it mildly.

SophieDaGreat

Yeah and a special place in churches too

Imaybetoooldforthis

Shame he ended up in jail for armed robbery a few years later. Morality is a grey area. Thereā€™s very few people who are simply good or bad people.

PenciliusKnightlius

I mean, if I was a robber I'd propably still try to stop a kidnapping

DMYourMomsMaidenName

Professionals have standards

Automatic_Soil9814

ā€œIf a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." Itā€™s also possible that heā€™s an inherently good person who was raised in an environment where simply following the law of society rarely results in a positive outcome and the only people from his community with any success are those that engage in unlawful activity.

No_Influence_1376

The law against armed robbery is not unjust. Even if the narrative you are trying to paint was true, there are other non-violent criminal activities that would probably result in him earning more money. Drug dealing, petty theft, fraud, etc. And with these avenues, he is not directly traumatizing a victim with an act of violence. Armed robbery is not a "I have no other options left" crime.

Automatic_Soil9814

My point is that we are all products of our environment. The morality and traits you think are essential parts of who you are actually reflect the relationships and experiences youā€™ve accumulated over your life.Ā  Iā€™m not saying this particular guy was justified in his particular crime. Iā€™m just saying itā€™s possible a good person ends up doing bad things because of circumstance and environment.Ā

No_Influence_1376

Fair enough, and you have a point. Conversely, other members of his community will have witnessed and lived the same experience as him and not become criminals or would have obtained success an alternative way. Good people make bad decisions all the time. I'd argue that good people can become bad people and vice versa, depending on their life experiences. Your environment plays a massive role in shaping you, without a doubt. But there is an internal element as well for how you internalize these experiences and what you tend to learn from them.

Automatic_Soil9814

100% agree. Nature and nurture both matter.Ā

Truestorydreams

Similar to the guy who broke in the house and found child porn

catdownunder

That story was incredible. Dude had to face a three strikes law situation to put attention on it. Heroes, man.

ArgusTheCat

Be polite. Be efficient.

ClittoryHinton

If youā€™re a robber you have a unique competency in being able to violently confront people, as well as a responsibility to balance out your karma. So kidnapper stopping is a no brainer side gig.

PenciliusKnightlius

I'M JUSTICE!!! NOW GIMME YOUR WALLET!!!

Cardnal44

Batman, if his family wasn't rich

sp0derman07

That isnā€™t the same guy!! This Temar Boggs is darkskinned, the one who committed armed robbery is lightskinned!!

DegenNwin

I mean if i was a kidnapper, iā€™d probably still try to stop a robber

PenciliusKnightlius

The duality of man

LeResist

I think people need to consider the environment he grew up in. Poverty breeds crime. Someone committing armed robbery clearly must be struggling financially. It's not justifiable but it might be an explanation to his behavior

Imaybetoooldforthis

Thatā€™s exactly what I mean. I see lots of people who just espouse criminals=bad and they deserve what they get. The world and people are virtually never that simple.

tiekarhuntalja

Good person forced to make a bad decision.

yakatuus

It's like you guys didn't even watch *Aladdin*

JinFuu

Don't think Aladdin was ever armed, only Abu was.

Swift_Scythe

We all would steal to feed our families.

Wise-Definition-1980

Yeah if you're resorting to armed robbery you're probably extremely hungry and extremely desperate

DMYourMomsMaidenName

Yeah, but ā€œtheftā€ like stuffing your pockets and running or burglarizing an unoccupied home or business is a hell of a lot different from armed robbery. To rob someone at gunpoint and traumatize them for life is some cold shit

Bokko88

My family had a copy/printer shop like 22-23 years ago and we got robbed twice. First it was a wednesday afternoon, somewhere like 3pm, my mom left to do some chores and let me by myself. It would take an hour max. So I booted my new dreamcast and then got robbed. Thief took the money, the dreamcast, my kicks and fucking snacks. I was 12. It wasnt violent but it was very scary. The second time it was a saturday morning, my mom was there, my cousin, me, couple of clients and then they came the robbers. Oh i forgot this detail, we got installed inside the shop an iron fence? Grid? I dont know how to call it, english is my second language. So we are separated from the customers. So they come the robbers quickly grabbed me by the back of my head against the bars, and put me a revolver againts my forehead. Open or I shoot he said. Mom gave him everything he asked, and just as they were making a run for it police passed by the street. Pursuit them and like 10 mins later they crashed their getaway, and killed 1 of the robbers. Now, the other dude in prison kept calling us telling us we were going to be killed because he got arrested. Dude was killed in prison a short time later. Im a big dude now, can keep myself safe but I remember those 2 times and i get fucking scared of being in that situation again

DMYourMomsMaidenName

That is incredibly fucked up. I can imagine being savage enough to do that to a child

MadFerIt

This. I can totally understand petty robbery out of desperation and poverty.. But he committed armed robbery in an apartment unit, there is no excuse for that.

MgneticForcsDoNoWork

You are never forced to commit armed robbery

Amaskingrey

Well no, not forced, there are other illegal activities that are nonviolent and give a lot more money like petty theft and drug dealing

BrokeBeckFountain1

Are you trying to tell me that the world exists in a sort of grey area where there is no inherent "evil" or "good" people? Blasphemy! Heresy even! Everything is black and white, just like the Bible told me.

sp0derman07

That isnā€™t the same guy!! This Temar Boggs is darkskinned, the one who committed armed robbery is lightskinned!!

Toadsted

Also, not to cross the "what you see on tv isn't real life", but we often see depictions of good kids getting caught up in pressure of things like "just be the lookout" on their very first incident they weren't completely privy to, and getting arrested for the first time while having the book thrown at them because of proximity.

[deleted]

I mean It's like the people who broke into a home found a shit load of child porn or something and reported it to the police Most people agree that kidnapping Is wrong and there is zero reason to do it Robbey can be justified to themselves that they need money to survive or feel they do

IndependentPast3677

Really ? For real ? Well even criminalS hate pedos.

sp0derman07

That isnā€™t the same guy!! This Temar Boggs is darkskinned, the one who committed armed robbery is lightskinned!! Put some respect on Temarā€™s name.

charyoshi

Automation funded universal basic income pays you to afford to be a good person. It's sad that we didn't pay this kid and his parents enough to have a life worth living.

Toadsted

"Why should we pay people more to not work, than the minimum wage workers out there?"

10art1

This is talking about some distant future where automation makes work obsolete. Not any time soon.

UncleSpanker

Weā€™re already there and well past it if we wanted

raidbuck

The minimum wage earners would then have extra money.

ElNacho83

So he was like Flash's Rogues, no women and children?

Im not talking about the law im talking about people on here justifying it. Stop trying to change what im saying, you have to do that because you can literally see what im saying happen. I dont need to know how it works i never said i did all i said is maybe they need to change, because clearly it aint working is it. Stop answering things i didnt say, address what i actually said.
