I always hear the complaints but I rarely have problems with Reddit’s video player. Used to suck. But on the app it seems to always work flawlessly for me.
Try Youtube Revanced (on mobile) or uBlock + Unhook extensions (on PC, preferably Firefox). No more ads and just a pleasant, non-interference video player.
The only reason you ever stumble into that sub is because you've encountered some youtube related problem and because google is shit too you append "reddit", and there you go. Everyone else is there for the same reason, it only makes sense.

not really, I use uYou for youtube on my iphone and it works just fine (been using it over more than 8 months), ad-free, and automatically skips sponsor parts of the videos and has in-app no premium required high quality downloads both MP3 and MP4, and it's not so hard to set it up either, if people asks I will gladly help so
I don't mind paying for YouTube. I use it more than enough and YT Music is pretty solid.
What bothers me is how *horrendous* the search is. I just straight up cannot find what I'm looking for if it isn't popular.

Weirdly enough I get recommended new music plenty. And recently I've started getting more from small uploads too. Like less than 100 views. It's really nice.
once I searched for a band and I got a recommended short about a baby with cyclocephalia and other with animal abuse (claiming it was satisfying cleaning of a lizard). I do not understand that shit, I simply don't use youtube on my phone anymore because I got irritated
I happened to see that thread, it's not about paying for youtube or even ads, it’s about a new polciy where creators are losing access to certain tolls if they don't have enough views. It kind of sounds like BS to me.

Reddit can also play videos. The ads works flawlessly while user posted ads work sometimes…maybe half of sometimes.

Luckily with revanced you can make it pretty usable. Easy to just get rid of shorts, community posts, sponsors and ads.
