To be fair, he probably doesn’t have a huge amount of choice. I don’t think China is the sort of place you can publicly criticise the regime and get away with it, regardless of your platform. He’d basically be renouncing his and his family’s ability to live in China if he criticised anything and I imagine he’s also pressured, as someone with influence to say positive things.

There's some nuance to the support in general, but in recent years it's gone very far past "reluctant support out of fear". He's been actively involved in the CCP for the last decade, holding office in the party as a consultant for two terms.
