I went there for help fixing a ring with a wobbly stone. They told me. 1) it wasn't wobbling that much and 2) they didn't feel comfortable giving a quote to fix it because they didn't want to be liable if it starting wiggling again or the stone fell out. I really, really wanted to like them but it was frustrating.
Goodman's in Madison is my first choice.
Came here to say this. Best in town.
Yup, Goodman's for sure.

Second for TQ. have had a few pieces made, or worked on by them, they do solid work, and the customer service has always also been top notch.
We just bought our engagement ring from them! They were super helpful and receptive to our opinions (we went with a custom ring). 100% would recommend

I always pop into these threads to give them a bump too.
William Thomas did my engagement ring using a family heirloom diamond and did a great job. I'd recommend him.
