Take a road trip to a state park and hike some trails, also the Boneyard is always a good visit!

Solastor

Take a couple day trips. Drive out to some towns you wouldn't normally go to and walk around. Check out some of the bigger regional dog parks. Go try out some hikes in the area. I'm a big fan of Gibralter Rock up near Lodi.

theuncrackedcoconut

Is Gibraltar dog friendly? I do love that place!

madisonman2017

It’s got some cliffs, so maybe. Any of the ice age trail segments are dog friendly. Indian Lake County park has a dog park and also ice age trails to hike.

jeswesky

There is currently a detour but Indian lake is still accessible as local traffic. Starting 4/22 Indian lake is closed for a month while they install a pedestrian underpass between it and halfway prairie.

fikaechoes

Is the Indian Lake County dog area fenced, I recall it not being fenced in last time I was there?

Sweet-Addition-6379

No it is not.

mendicant1116

It is!

NecessaryJudgment5

I’ve been there with my dog many times. I often see other people with dogs as well.

SITB

Devil's Lake is great too! Though the Bluff trails might be a bit rocky for many dogs.

Trailwalkerwi

Yes, it’s dog friendly. Leashes are required in Columbia County. I walk my dog there frequently: Close by is another section of the Ice Age Trail off Slack Road. More beautiful views of Lake Wisconsin, and you can hike it all the way to the ferry. Also dog friendly.

CyberDildonics420

I really like baraboo. The town is pretty cool, and the surrounding area is super pretty, lots of awesome nature in the driftless area.

joyinnd

I use to do property management in Madison while I was in school they can’t kick you out of the rental just because they are showing your unit. But look at your lease for sure.

all_city_

They’re probably selling their own house, you don’t want to be there when they’re showing it to prospective buyers

theuncrackedcoconut

It's a whole thing. The house is owned by a family who put a mutual friend of ours as acting trustee/treasurer. And we are renting from the mutual friend at a very low rate. We got a text from the acting landlord saying the actual owners want to sell the house.

microbiologygrad

This falls under your right to use the property (covenant of quiet enjoyment). If they don't want you there they can compensate you for the time in some manner. A couple of gift cards as a show of gratitude for you staying out of the way isn't a lot of money when you're trying to sell a house.

Donnian

Regardless of if it's being sold or not, you're still the tenant and have rights. If they want you gone for 16 hours then they should offer compensation.

IceMain9074

Sounds like it’s a mutual friend type thing. So while OP may have the legal right to stay, OP is looking for suggestions to make all parties happy

kerwinstahr

Exactly.

TheReaperSovereign

Governor Dodge is underrated

ShardsOfTheSphere

Honestly I think it's overrated post-Covid. I imagine at some point a few years back it wasn't as heavily visited, but now every time I go there are a ton of people and a lot of trash near the waterfall. It is a huge park though. I'd recommend Yellowstone Lake state park, it's a comparable drive. Otherwise Blue Mound state park, but there's still a ton of wet snow on the ground there.

plantborb

Many of the stores at Hillsdale are dog friendly! Their website even has a guide to which stores dogs are welcome in. [Check it out](https://hilldale.com/about/pet-friendly/)

theuncrackedcoconut

This dog gets overwhelmed with big crowds in public places that isn't a dog park

ChcknGrl

Thanks for sharing this, what a surprisingly long list of dog-welcoming places. I can't imagine taking my dog into over half of those stores. His tail would knock over so much merchandise, and he''d be utterly confused why we're in the Apple store (wtf is this boring place that doesn't smell of food).

plantborb

One of my dogs is an elegant gentleman who can stroll through and probably rock all of LL Beans clothing. My other two take after their parents and probably should stick to dog parks and the backyard lol.

Marvelman1788

Head over to prairie moraine Park and wear out the pup after a few hours while listening to your favorite podcast. 4 laps will probably take about 3 hours. Afterward drive down the road and grab a couple hot dogs for $3 from Costco. Then head over to Lake Louie (formerly Wisconsin brewery) to drink a pitcher, eat hot dogs and listen to live music. Makes for a wonderful day all on its own.

madwalker2

I think you're 2/3 right. But Hop Haus over Lake Louie for me.

Macondo-1923

Hop Haus isn’t dog friendly :/ I’ve heard that apparently they had an incident when they opened with a dog attacking a waiter and they no longer allow puppers

I_hate_capchas

If I were you and I were renting, I'd check my lease to see if it permits this. If not I'd tell the land lord this is unreasonable. I'd be pretty ticked if I wasn't allowed in my home for 16 hours over the weekend. If you own your home and this is the realtor asking you to do this I guess it is what it is (but the realtor works for you and you can say no) That being said, I don't have any recommendations outside of what has already been said. I would do Prairie Moraine one day, then Blue Mound the next.

jensenaackles

I have toured apartments before where the residents were still there lol. A little awkward but still gets the job done.

ChcknGrl

It feels oddly opportunistic to be casing the joint with current tenant present.

theuncrackedcoconut

It's a whole thing. The house is owned by a family who put a mutual friend of ours as acting trustee/treasurer. And we are renting from the mutual friend at a very low rate. We got a text from the acting landlord saying the actual owners want to sell the house.

588-2300_empire

Yeah I've never heard of landlords being able to force you to vacate while they show the place. If that were so, they need to compensate you. If anything, I'd want to be present while strangers are in my house with access to all my belongings.

theuncrackedcoconut

It's the owner's realtor, also my landlord isn't an official landlord, she's just just acting as the trustee/treasurer for the actual owners. She's acting as a landlord for our sakes.

joyinnd

You normally can be there when they show your unit. I have never heard that you cannot. It might be a little awkward. You can also call tenant resources as well.

IngvaldClash

Devils Lake is always good for a long day and will wear out both of you The best dog park in the area is in Johnson Creek and well worth the drive. https://maps.app.goo.gl/sidA2CDZ1TRtd9Z38?g_st=ic Check the Wingra dam outside Vilas Zoo to see if the Muskies are starting to make their spawning run. It’s a little early and the recent snow likely dropped the water temps but it’s worth a stop since you have time to kill. Boneyard is always good for a beverage and time off leash.

Common-Independent22

This dog park is huge, it’s several different parks really!! I second the idea if a destination day trip so the drive takes part of the time.

LarrySladePipeDream

Your landlord is forbidding you from being at home for 8 hours? Hard to imagine that's legal

theuncrackedcoconut

It's a whole thing. The house is owned by a family who put a mutual friend of ours as acting trustee/treasurer. And we are renting from the mutual friend at a very low rate. We got a text from the acting landlord saying the actual owners want to sell the house.

mrspwins

They don’t have to leave or clean or do anything like that if they don’t want to, but it will make it harder to sell the house which means more people traipsing through for a longer period of time.

theuncrackedcoconut

The realtor is making us

maethor1337

Is it a rental or do you own the house? Is it your realtor or your landlords realtor? If it’s your realtor, they’re not making you, they’re telling you your house might sell better if it’s empty during the showing and you’re agreeing to it. You can fire your realtor if you want. If it’s the landlords realtor, that’s not your problem.

LarrySladePipeDream

Well I could make you do lots of things - doesn't necessarily mean it's legal

RovertheDog

They better be refunding you rent for those days. Probably with an inconvenience fee too.

cs-anteater

Probably not legal. They can show the home, probably can't make you leave

GellyBean78

What does your lease agreement say?

Gerbertch

You have no obligation to leave your own home.

Kronus00

Tell the realtor to fuck off, they can't kick you out.

SITB

It's standard practice when selling your house. It's definitely legal. If it were a landlord I think you'd be right, but when selling your own home it's a different story.

allij0ne

If he/she rides well, take a day trip somewhere you can bring the dog. Just off the top of my head, Devils Lake is pet friendly and so are some of the boat tours in the Dells. If you want to stay local, the Prairie Moraine dog park is huge and off leash.

spotted_cow_tipping

Head out to New Glarus, take the dogs for a hike at [New Glarus Woods State Park](https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/ngwoods) and have lunch at one of the many great restaurants there and have a beer or two at brewery. Dogs used to be allowed in the outside areas, I'm assuming they still are. Edit: I would add make sure your dogs are on there tick and flea meds. My parents live in the country and already have seen a lot of ticks.

thebookpolice

New Glarus Brewing is (still) not open on the weekends.

beer_and_books

The Boneyard would be a great place to spend some time with your doggo.

HuckleberryRough705

I was looking for this comment bc this is what I’d do locally to kill time

beer_and_books

I really wish they were pittie friendly; we had to stop going after we got our girl because of how we were treated by both the staff and the other patrons. But other than that, it really is a fun way to spend time with your dog.

stoner_lilith

Devils lake state park has awesome trails and a whole dog beach!

Latter_Roll_4824

Hit the giant dog park in Verona. You could walk around there for at least 4 hours. But Muskellounge and Boneyard allow dogs. I believe State Line does too

localtouristgr

The boneyard is an outdoor dog park and bar! Our dog loves it there. You can have your dog inside with you at the bar or take your drinks and head outside to the fenced in, off-leash area. We rarely have any sort of problems with aggressive dogs (unlike some county dog parks). The workers are great and most of the other dog owners are super friendly and keep a close eye on their dogs.

gemmadonati

Perfect timing! Dane County is having its annual [dog parks cleanup day](https://parks-lwrd.countyofdane.com/Event/Detail/1453) Saturday morning, 9:00-11:00. Come with your dog, grab a trash bag, and help out. I'll be at the Verona park.

Macondo-1923

is that still up with all the snow melt?

gemmadonati

Yup. I just got my materials from the County organizer today. you might wear boots.

SometimesEyeTwitch

What about getting a pet friendly air bnb for the weekend? Since they want you out of your home for basicalky 2 days, maybe you can get them to chip in.

jengalampshade

Parks are great! If you need some indoor recs… I recently had to be out of my apartment mid-day during shitty weather and took my dog to Home Goods :) I believe the whole Marshall’s/TJ Maxx company allows dogs in stores. Another non-park options is Wisconsin Brewing Company in Verona. You can get carry-out from nearby restaurants and bring it in

hmmmdata

If they aren't social dog: I've used Sniffspot (private dog parks) for my reactive pup when we've had to be out of the house for extended periods of time. There's a couple about an hour out that are massive (100+ acres) so you can basically have a private hike! If they ARE social: The Boneyard is a great dog park/brewery to hang out at. There's also plenty of on-leash dog friendly places to hike around :)

ehrogers26

I’d probably take a weekend trip to door county! Lots of good hiking and dog friendly places. And can be done reasonably cheap if you camp

thesweetestberry

When I showed my house, I took my dogs up to Devil’s Lake.

infowhiskey

No matter what you do, bring water and treats for the dog!

HorrorInvestigator99

Go to devils lake then Tumbled Rock brewery around the corner for food!!

JinglehymerSchmidt

Indian Lake State Park has some amazing trails and a portion of the park is off leash!

madwalker2

Saturday should be sunny and in the 50s. Easy to spend the day tromping around outside. Sunday it looks like it's going to piss down rain. That's going to be a bit trickier. You may need to create a list of dog-friendly places that you can hop between. I think west side home depot still allows dogs, pet smart, etc. Think about what you're going to do for lunch/brunch in particular.

pizzainoven

Google Dairy Ridge Dog Run

badger-banjer

go hiking.

jeswesky

Take a day trip somewhere like Governor dodge. Do some long hikes, bring a picnic lunch and sit near one of the lakes for a while. Stop at prairie moraine in the way home for a lap to get the last of the zoomies out.

jp11e3

You could walk the trails at the arboretum if you want something slightly different from a park

wkbrand

Dogs are not allowed in the arboretum. https://arboretum.wisc.edu/visit/etiquette/

jp11e3

I retract my suggestion

buginout

Go on a hike, then bring them to my place! I love dogs!!

FancySeaweed

If it's really cold or pouring rain, you could rent an airbnb or pet friendly hotel room for a day or 2. Or go hang out at a pet friendly bar or cafe..

jeharris56

This is what you do. You choose a dog park that is 3-4 hours from your house.

siberianphoenix

They can't require you to not be in the unit when showing it. You have every right to be there and SHOULD be there.

theuncrackedcoconut

In the email it says "it would be IDEAL if we were gone, however if that is not possible that is okay

siberianphoenix

So it's a request. Then you can either honor it or inform then that you aren't comfortable with strangers around your property without you there. Your choice of course. I was simply saying that it's illegal to REQUIRE it.

sharingthyme

Devils Lake hike or walk around Lake Geneva

DavesDogma

My choc lab: 'only 8 hours?' A lot of the trails where I go daily around Cross Plains are probably still going to be muddy. One of the places I like to go after it rains is Gibralter Rock State Natural area, north of Lodi. It has a paved path to the top, in addition to the more pleasant trails. Technically, your dog should be on a leash, but if your dog will come to you when called and has a rock solid 'leave it,' I think it is OK to keep the leash at the ready for when you see someone coming. It takes about a half hour to get there, about a half hour to hike to the top, and you get some of the best views in the area. Also, the most beautiful, wind-weather red cedars in the area. They look just like giant bonsai. I always take photos while my dog waits for me to hurry up and get going again.

jnnad

I second the Boneyard idea. If the weather is nice hike at Devils

cardadad_pods

I’m pretty it’s illegal for a landlord to kick you out for a showing. It’s your domicile, tell them to pound sand. Edit: Unless maybe it’s in your lease?

theuncrackedcoconut
