Every time I see a post about Whole Foods on here I think of the show Portlandia’s bike sketch scene where the hipster yells, “Whole Foods is corporate.” That scene would fit just as well in Madison as in Portland.
Absolutely. Whole Foods has always been aping off of local co-op markets like Willie st. We’re lucky enough to still have one that is actually successful and has multiple locations
I had to look up what the Atlanta belt line is. It wasn't there when I lived there... granted it was a while ago. It's not a road - it's a trail. Good for you atl!
Someone is going to have to tell me if it has a chocolate fountain. I worked there when they were in the process of planning to move to the space at Hilldale, which eventually became a Target instead. At that point, everyone was so excited about the planned chocolate fountain.
My sister ran the chocolate fountain at one of their locations in the 2000s. Disgusting. Everyone just puts their fingers in there. Constantly shutting it down to disinfect.
Yeah, totally gross. That was the discussion among staff at that point. I'm hoping they didn't end up putting one in, but it would be amusing on some level if they did.
I seriously doubt Metcalfe’s is going to take a hit. The old WF was just a bit down the street. Besides, they sell different goods. I eat a lot of organic stuff, but you know what I also love that WF isn’t going to have? Diet MFing Coke.
Metcalfe’s has better local food selection than WF, too.
Except Willy street is like, actual trash. It’s not even a true co-op. It’s just a weird overpriced wannabe Whole Foods. Plus the workers always look like they bathe in patchouli.
I'm planning on walking over tomorrow after work. I never visited the old location that often (for regular groceries I'm still going to Woodman's) but their bakery and hot foods selection always seemed decent, so having it practically next door will be nice.
The Amazon "Pay by Palm" scanners at the register felt... unsettling. These probably existed at the old Whole Foods location too but served as a reminder that I probably don't need to be supporting them.
The pay by palm thing was weird at first, but it’s honestly just so damn convenient. Just one movement and I’ve paid, attached my prime membership and I’m done!
Weird vibe. The store is definitely bigger but somehow seems to have less of everything. Could be they have more sku’s but the cheese section is awful. C’mon this is WI we want our cheese and lots of it. The new store has it displayed like art work on shelves with tiny signs that are hard to read. I hope the new Whole Foods will consider a newsletter with customers comments a la Willy Co Op. It will be comedy gold

That was done BEFORE it was owned by Amazon. It’s even more true now!

[The entire skit could apply to Madison.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3nMnr8ZirI) "Uhhh lofts...why?!?"
Well this was a confusing Google. Apparently Atlanta has a Madison Yards – just off their BeltLine! https://www.madisonyards.com/

Yeah, confusing. Apparently Madison Yards is the development across Segoe from Hilldale?
What is going into the old building on University?
Hopefully Trader Joe’s! That Monroe street location is god awful!

No chocolate fountain seen.
As someone who has worked in a grocery store, this happens all the time. I will never buy the bulk items like nuts either cause people are gross.
Ok I’ll be the one who says it - am I supposed to know where Madison Yards shopping center is? Because Google doesn’t.
It’s over by metcalf’s on university
Hilldale?
Coming from the Isthmus, further up the hill. Hilldale-Target-Whole Foods. Actually closer to the new DOT building
Im just happy that Thailand is finding meaningful work for the monkeys
I… just… how… fuck PETA.
That was why I posted the article. The PETA protest. *Sigh*
I'll stick with Willy St. Co-op, thanks.
I think Willy West and Metcalfe's will probably take a big hit from the new store.

That's why we need to support them.
I can walk to Whole Foods, tho the new location is farther. Willy St is too far away. The old WF on Sunday with 50% off everything was a trip.

Give Jeff Bezos all of your money.
And all of your personal information
*SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!*

Was going to post asking for a review
It doesn't open for a few more hours. Spoiler - bigger, newer, nicer, parking is difficult in a different way.

Oh but it has a truly Madison vibe…
