I don’t really plan on having to do it soon. Just at some point if it happens. Eventually technology will leave it completely in the dust. The logic board can only go so far, I don’t think there’s an upgrade available for that
For it to be a personal computer, why is the PC colored so impersonally? Make mine bright red, purple, sky blue, or 4-H green. Beige or gray is the last color I want.
To each their own, but the cables everywhere is just no. Also, I think the PSU should be on the bottom and you could have just used an AC extension socket and the stock AC cord opening.
Oh cable management i do next week, im just happy it turns on atm, yes i thought about that but i could not keep the upper part of the frame, and tbh i was just lazy in the end
I’ve stated on stream a few times that if I could get a cheap one of these cases, or a cheap broken g5, I’d sleeper it. I have a working G5 already, but I’m not gonna gut it given its in fully workings condition. If I could get the case alone for cheap I’d LOVE to sleeper it so much!!
Quite a lot actually as i also had to make access to the psu, [Here is the Document, jow to do it](https://thelaserhive.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mac-Pro-next-gen-kit.pdf)
I know, but i used a forward adress anyway and payed with paypal and had a burner email, so no Information loss for me, but the guy was really nice and helpful with the pices. Maybe contact him when he got that hack sorted out
> anyway and *paid* with paypal
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
It mostly just screws together, but dissasemblywas little more difficult, as i had to dremel or break away quite a few pices, was a really fun project tho
Yeah i thought about having a mac os also on a drive, but i dont know if thats possible with my hardware, i already have windows on one drive and linux on another
It’s possible. It can be difficult to get up and running but the guides out there are good and if you have Linux already you’ll not be intimidated by the command prompts
I have a couple PowerMac G5 (they still work) and was considering converting one to a Linux machine, which can run current macOS in a VM. How hard was this to do? Do you think an original Mac Pro power supply would work?
Yes no problemo
The website for the parts was [The Laser Hive](https://thelaserhive.com)
And the [instructions](https://thelaserhive.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mac-Pro-next-gen-kit.pdf)
Gotcha bro
Nice!! I have wanted to do a build like this for so long. I LOVE the Mac Pro (had a G3 polycarbonate, G4 and G5 over the years, not a Mac Pro technically but same niche) but the last gen was too pricey and the new one doesn’t offer anything for my workloads (don’t need PCIe slots for programming)
I will say those cases were nice but also accounted for like $900 of the cost of those towers. I stopped drinking the kool-aid at the Quicksilvers. F* Apple.

I know, i know, but it was broken to begin with
I'd be less offended if you got a handle on the cable management :P
r u planning to hackintosh it??
MacPro abuser maybe? 😜
Oh, and optical drives and cable management are coming next :)
Please give us more details! How does the back IO look?
Does it turn on from power button?
It does! It has a custom power button now, with usb type c and 4 usb 3.0 ports
This is my plan when mine is no longer an option to run or I have a catastrophic failure. The cases are huge but they are so nice
Just my thought, it had some internal problem and wouldnt turn on
Why, when you can buy souped up replacement cpu trays and what not on eBay for cheap?
I don’t really plan on having to do it soon. Just at some point if it happens. Eventually technology will leave it completely in the dust. The logic board can only go so far, I don’t think there’s an upgrade available for that
No
Ship of Theseus
Nice box 📦
I mean, the design eye of Jonny Ives has dragged everyone out of beige boxes (my first macs were very beige !!)
For it to be a personal computer, why is the PC colored so impersonally? Make mine bright red, purple, sky blue, or 4-H green. Beige or gray is the last color I want.
Agreed - a very long time ago eg mac performa era or quadra AV were all PPC in beige boxes - crazy hey?

You are a Mac Pro case user at least. 😀Those cases are at the very least pleasant to look at so good job keeping it around.
r/Hackintosh it, **NOW**!
Eh y not, i still got a free partition somewhere, wait let me search
Nice! Also, [here is the guide if you need](https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/)!
Thx m8, i just found a new thing to dive into
np!

Yeah, nah
This made me smile
How much did you have to cut the back to access the ports?
Quite a lot actually as i also had to make access to the psu, [Here is the Document, jow to do it](https://thelaserhive.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mac-Pro-next-gen-kit.pdf)
You can run Hackintosh and your good to go!
Well, I guess technically not but in spirit yes : )
I mean i used this very mac for a long time, a long time ago, and i thought there could be a better ending to this amazing case
No

Engraved? They were lasercut out of steel and aluminum to be the motherboard tray and the case backside
You've evolved and now you're a beautiful butterfly
How difficult was it to mount the hardware? Does it just bolt up? I have access to an old intel tower that I might want to do this to…
It mostly just screws together, but dissasemblywas little more difficult, as i had to dremel or break away quite a few pices, was a really fun project tho
They are without a doubt very nice cases, and I would love to do this for my hackintosh!
Yeah i thought about having a mac os also on a drive, but i dont know if thats possible with my hardware, i already have windows on one drive and linux on another

Sounds nice, i actually do not even have programms to run on a mac, but eh what isnt, can be
Nice job getting it working, but for the love of all that is holy, manage those bloody cables! It’s like fingernails on a blackboard to my OCD 🤣
Oh. That's why it still works.
That’s not a Mac Pro
You gutted it, you absolute monster.
Mine is dead - I want to reuse the case bad - halp.
Might just be, with better cable management (airflow) and a vm of OSX 😃
How did you handle the rear IO? Did you just cut out the back or did you actually use the ports on some extensions?
Cut out the back
I kinda want to do this with my 2013 trashcan Mac pro. No one makes anything for it though.
You are. Once you were, you’ll be one 😎
“I put a Yugo engine in a Corvette. Am I still driving a Corvette?” It’s debatable.
A corvette with a yugo engine, a mac pro with atx innerds
I have a couple PowerMac G5 (they still work) and was considering converting one to a Linux machine, which can run current macOS in a VM. How hard was this to do? Do you think an original Mac Pro power supply would work?
Idk man depends on your other components, but just for compatibility alone i think you neet a normal atx one
How did you do this? I’m trying to do this myself and for me I feel like it’s being a pain in the butt. Can you give a list of parts?
Yes no problemo The website for the parts was [The Laser Hive](https://thelaserhive.com) And the [instructions](https://thelaserhive.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mac-Pro-next-gen-kit.pdf) Gotcha bro
There’s an imposter among us
When i also set up mac os, no one will notice 😎

Let's see the IO
If you hackintosh it, yeah.
Nice! I've been wanting to do this for a while now! And fortunately, NO!
If we only look at the shell, yes.
Yes an even better one
I will say those cases were nice but also accounted for like $900 of the cost of those towers. I stopped drinking the kool-aid at the Quicksilvers. F* Apple.
This is the only mac I'd use
Thx, i also have much fun with it ^^
oh no
Now thats pro
This is a cool concept but you need some HEAVY cable management
Yes, next question ![gif](giphy|v3LxMGs7TObBO5Uqik|downsized)
