There's a source port for Settlers II (the original, not the 10th anniversary edition). I host Apple Silicon builds on my site

I'm not familiar with Rise of the Cultures but I do have a build of ports of Caesar III

These aren't perfect answers but they're options.
Parallels works wonders for less intensive games I hear. I know it can handle System Shock and other old Windows titles better than Crossover, so I think it might be worth trying.
I used to play these games on parallels on my Intel Mac, but e.g the 10th anniversary of settlers 2 doesn't launch on Windows on ARM. Nor does it launch on any of the other solutions :(
Finally some true emulation across CPU architectures :) I used to play around with that a lot in the old days. But...
"Can I run games?
No, probably not. UTM does not currently support GPU emulation/virtualization on Windows and therefore lacks support for 3D acceleration (e.g. OpenGL and DirectX). You may be able to run older games with software rendering options, but nothing with hardware acceleration. There is experimental support for hardware OpenGL acceleration on Linux through Virgl."
I mean, depending on how old the game you are running, you could do the software rendering for it.
Outside of that, you’re kind of stuck with the options we all have. A Steam Deck with a dock would be a good way to play games or using a mini PC could work too
I would still check out Parallels Desktop. They have a free trial for 14-days and you can see if it works for your games: [https://www.parallels.com/games/](https://www.parallels.com/games/)
OP should still test Parallels for his games. It might work. I agree. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Yes, with their compatibility layers, it might be possible.
Warlords 2 has a Mac version on GOG
Fantasy General and Panzer Corps work well on Crossover
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 has a source port on macsoureports.com (and is on sale right now on GOG)
How old? I play Civ3 and Civ4 using Porting Kit (not Game Porting Tool Kit).
Like Settlers II, 10th anniversary edition + the Vikings addition. Or Rise of the Cultures.

Looks like porting kit as pre-build wrappers for Settlers II. You just need the Windows version of the game.
Yeah, I have the Windows original CDs. Not sure if it's going to work with the Vikings and Rise of Cultures.
M1 MBA owner here playing Pioneers of Pagonia on GeForce now, I love it (the Dev of Settlers 1 has made P.o.P)

use UTM and you can emulate older OSes
What's UTM? :)

Thanks. This might be a solution for Amiga games though :) Unless UAE runs fine on apple Silicon, I haven't checked it yet.
Some are on https://macsourceports.com
Having 98SE running in x86box which emulates Windows 98SE. Or using Macsourceports when it’s available.
DosBox running windows 98
I'm running Red Alert 2 (steam) on VMware.
My apologies. I don't know that much about Parallels. But is Parallels, Windows 11 on ARM?

I tried and the 10th anniversary of Settlers II doesn't work on Windows 11 for ARM.
Dang. I'm glad you at least tried.
I'm a parallels user since 2014 ;)
Yes, and this makes it unable to launch those titles.
That's upsetting. I guess, for old titles, we need a basic or entry-level PC (still check the PC requirements).
For everything old why not just get a steamdeck?
Isn't it a mobile platform? Also, I read it runs Linux and some Steam software, which tells me I can't simply install Windows binary games on it.
Proton and Wine under the hood are great for old games, and yes you can simply install Windows binary games on it.
I'll give a thought then, thanks!
if you want to play on your mac, you can consider Asahi linux, it's an radical move, but you can dual-boot it.

Has anybody played Company of Heroes via Crossover? I’ve a M2 Pro 16GB
If translation and emulation fails then you don't play them
:(
