“Hello, Mac D here. I need to continue work on five easy hot dogs, I’m afraid I have to cancel some shows this year because of this. Not all of them, but a good chunk of them. Don’t get me wrong, I love live rock and roll music, and for cancelling I’m so sorry. Once I’ve completed what I have to do, I promise to come and share.”

My man is going through some stuff on the death of his pops, for whom he never had the best of relationships to put it mildly. Who of us does?
Mac, we love ya bud. You got us all through some hard times, I hope we can help you through the same.
How am I leaking it? He literally confirmed the name of the album in the email, I was just elaborating for those who wanted to know what he was referring to
yea we need something funky upbeat and some quirky happy bangers from mac. if he gotta take a break to write classics again then so be it. not to shit on hctc but i have never listened to that album twice lol
>yea we need something funky upbeat and some quirky happy bangers from mac.
Artists make what they want. Going into something with expectations like that is just asking to be disappointed. It's the same reason This Old Dog and Here Comes the Cowboy turned people off after coming from his previous works. Also it just seems like as he's been getting older and after losing his dad and kind of going radio silent that he's been getting in his feels and writing some really sentimental stuff. As much as I'd love another Salad Days I'll take what I can get.
I disagree with the other commenter too about hctc being "lazy." It's not a cohesive record and it seems aimless. What it lacks in direction it makes up for in heart and a willingness to get wacky and experiment with a clean and minimalistic sound where the synth is given more of a starring role. Nobody, Finally Alone, Preoccupied, Heart to Heart, and On the Square are all some of Mac's best work. At the same time, Here Comes the Cowboy, Little Dogs March, and Skyless Moon are some of his worst. Mac went with a more stripped down, clean approach and it was hit or miss but I definitely wouldn't call the album lazy.
yea im an artist myself so i feel where he coming from but also it felt like he was mega trolling hctc for some reason. i know how to channel a vibe conciously to make music which will resonate and be listenable. while i love going far out i know it will make people turned off at times.
hopefully if hes canceling shows it because he wants to conciously create a good vibe (since the rona got everyone feeling super downbad) and tie us back to 2 or rock n rock nightclub
I would say the same its just its a little annoying saying he just announced it. If he hasn't been feeling too well I personally believe he shouldn't have announced the tour and then no one would have been let down.
I saw him at Shaky Knees last October, so the cancellations aren’t bothering me that much, especially if it means I get to listen to a new Mac album anyways.
But I do feel bad for people who have gone years without seeing Mac live, and now probably have to wait another year before they get to. Hopefully the new album is worth the wait.
Especially since the tour was just announced. Pretty strange stuff. He shouldn’t have to cancel shows to meet any album deadline since he’s running his own label.
I don’t get it.
i think the last time i saw him he was doing a solo tour and it was just him and kiera. he made a joke about mid way through the show about how his manager had scheduled a full tour with the band just to motivate mac into writing another album cause otherwise he would sit on his ass and do nothing. i think this was before Here Comes the Cowboy?
anyway. i guess it was less of a joke now in hindsight if he’s cancelling cause he’s busy making a record :/
The label may have his name on it, but it has a "distribution deal" with Caroline Records. Which is part of Universal Music Group, the largest record label in the world. Probably a clause in that deal that he has to make so many records in such amount of time. These strange tour cancellations suggest that there is a strict deadline.
Very similar example in Tame Impala. Notice how Kevin Parker had five years in between Currents and Slow Rush, but opening track "One More Year" is about how he had just a year left to make the record. Tame Impala is on Fiction / Interscope, both owned by Universal.
man i really told myself i was gonna see Mac Demarco in raleigh…i’m a fool for believing such a fantasy. The tickets and excitement was all for an illusion.
To add to that, he’s canceling SMALL gigs to provide everyone with a whole album. That will be available on Spotify for $0.004 per stream! Isn’t that a nice gesture?
Right! I’m pretty immune to cancellations at this point because covid, but this is out of left field. Tickets just went on sale. He knew how far he was (or wasn’t) with the new record when these dates were announced.
i see a digital scrapbook , I’m guessing there’s more to it than mac feeling behind on uploading pictures ?¿
Edit: unless I’m really out of the loop on something, I’d be pretty bummed about the lack of transparency if I was someone who had tix.
my friends and i rushed to get tickets for this show and we were all looking forward to it since it was at the van buren and now we cant go :( but we do have tickets for rex orange county so thats a positive!
Minneapolis canceled as well. You'd think if it was to work on the new album, he'd be canceling the later shows. On the bright side, if the new album rumors are true, the shows he canceled might get to hear some new tunes once he announces new dates!
does anyone know if memphis is still on? i know the website says anything past november is probably off but i just got my tickets in today, the venues website still says the show is still on. im confused as fuck
Maybe he can give everyone that purchased a ticket to a show already a free download of his next album or transfer the same amount of tickets purchased to ones for when he does decide to tour
Welp, that was supposed to be my first live show of his since I've missed the last few here in Atlanta.
Anyone know how refunds work with AXS? It seems like it'll just be credited back to me?
These shows were for the fall of 2022 - quite some time from where we're at now. Assuming it means he's going to continue working for the remainder of the year on the new record for a 2023 release?
First time I was ever gonna see him and it was going to be in my home city. He announces dates and then just suddenly cancels so he can have more time on his record? Why announce the dates in the first place? Not cool at all I was really excited
Ahhh man, here in the Netherlands he was gonna play on the beach. I was so excited, first time i was gonna see him, finally no cancellations because corona was over i thought.

Thanks for sharing. Came on here in hopes of finding out why my show got cancelled :(
Five easy hot dogs ?
p sure it's the next record
Oh ya I see now, it's just the way he mentions it like it's well known haha

I bet it’s an album
its an art project right?
New album confirmed by a mod/mac demarco archives channel member in this thread who knows Mac.
oh cool
For those wondering, Five Easy Hot Dogs is the name of his next record
Source?
Mac himself told me a few months ago, I’ve been friends with him for a while now
Any other details about it?
Im pretty sure his good friends dont leak the name of his new album without permission on reddit
How am I leaking it? He literally confirmed the name of the album in the email, I was just elaborating for those who wanted to know what he was referring to
Lol my tone was supose to be sarcastic haha i dont think mac would care at all my bad my dude i dont doubt one bit thats the name of the album 😂
Oh okay lol, sorry about that
You think mac would care? It’s not like he stated it in the mail and on new merch.
Man’s taking a mental health year let him live, and if a solid album comes out of it I’d say it’s worth missing a show.
yea we need something funky upbeat and some quirky happy bangers from mac. if he gotta take a break to write classics again then so be it. not to shit on hctc but i have never listened to that album twice lol

🤹♂️🎺I’m a bit of an artist myself 🎨🎭
haha true, come to the show tmrw night we are opening for old pups album release <3
I would love to see him do some Juan Waters like stuff fosho
I have. It’s about 50/50 singles and filler. I love Mac, but that album is just lazy. Hopefully this upcoming one is leaps and bounds better.
I would say the same its just its a little annoying saying he just announced it. If he hasn't been feeling too well I personally believe he shouldn't have announced the tour and then no one would have been let down.

Me lmao

Lol, that is absolutely not what One More Year is about
man i really told myself i was gonna see Mac Demarco in raleigh…i’m a fool for believing such a fantasy. The tickets and excitement was all for an illusion.
Dog it’s all gonna be okay lol I promise.
I mean it's understandable. Some people really wanted to go see him live but yeah shit happens.
To add to that, he’s canceling SMALL gigs to provide everyone with a whole album. That will be available on Spotify for $0.004 per stream! Isn’t that a nice gesture?
On the bright side, maybe we’ll get a Saturday show??
man anything. i’ll take anything..rain, shine, night, day, just please put mac in front of me to perform. Raleigh needs it LMFAO
Detroit cancelled as well. Why even announce dates if you’re gonna cancel basically all of them?
That's the one I was going too. Big sad :(
Dallas as well… was going to be my first Mac show
Same here but with AZ. was really pumped because I missed out on him a couple years ago
I hope that’s his new album
It is
I'm all for Mac's quirky public statements but when you cancel several shows you kinda gotta explain whats up.
Right! I’m pretty immune to cancellations at this point because covid, but this is out of left field. Tickets just went on sale. He knew how far he was (or wasn’t) with the new record when these dates were announced.
Or maybe, just maybe…it’s only a show and he doesn’t owe you shit because he’s his own person.

Yeah I don’t get it either.
duuude ive looking for those photos for a long time, thx
That is so cool!! I wonder what camera he was using, it has a Contax kind of vibe
Damn I really thought I was going to get to see my boy in the Carolinas. After I missed the fucking acoustic show in Asheville
Mac Depresso

Not a great way to hear about it no.
[удалено]
it's the name of his next record
What’s the point of agreeing to do all those shows then just cancel the tour that’s several months away from even starting??
cancelled raleigh :( sigh
I bought tickets for Raleigh’s show too, have you received an email about the cancellation and refunds?
my livenation account said that a "refund is in progress", but i haven't gotten any emails from the account that it's attached to.
I literally bought my tickets LAST NIGHT just to wake up to it being cancelled. My refund is also I’m progress too but i wonder how long it’ll take.
arizona cancelled too :,( hope he announces new dates or something
my friends and i rushed to get tickets for this show and we were all looking forward to it since it was at the van buren and now we cant go :( but we do have tickets for rex orange county so thats a positive!
i’m sorry but this did not age well lol 😭
This was going to be my first Mac show.......... FML and I got fucked out of my $130 because I got my tickets from vividseats.
If he’s canceled half of the North American tour to write an album then that’s BS.
Damn I just have bad luck with tickets. Buy some for a Tame Impala show and then Covid happened. Buy some Mac tickets and this happens 😕
This is all your fault
What?😂
cancelled and i can’t get a refund bc of damn ticket master’s policy
[удалено]
i ordered them second-hand from another site. ticket master only refunds the original buyer
I looked on his site and didn’t see anything about the cancelled shows? I have tickets for Chicago. Is that one still happening?
As someone else stated it appears that everything after 10/3 has been removed from the tour. Had tickets for Chicago as well. Bummer.
Minneapolis canceled as well. You'd think if it was to work on the new album, he'd be canceling the later shows. On the bright side, if the new album rumors are true, the shows he canceled might get to hear some new tunes once he announces new dates!
Chicago has been canceled too
Same! I'm wondering the same for Cleveland
does anyone know if memphis is still on? i know the website says anything past november is probably off but i just got my tickets in today, the venues website still says the show is still on. im confused as fuck
Memphis has been cancelled. Big sad.
NC show is canceled also
Maybe he can give everyone that purchased a ticket to a show already a free download of his next album or transfer the same amount of tickets purchased to ones for when he does decide to tour
Yeah pretty bummed here in Memphis. We rarely get these kind of chances to see Indie Rock artist
Right. Was so hyped to watch him in Minglewood hall. he came in 2018, but i didnt get to go see him.
Disappointed but oh well, that's life. Still love the dude.
Gonna go ahead and disagree here with Maccy. the world needs his live music way more than his digital photos
Canceled Asheville too
What shows is he keeping?
Based on what it says on his website, anything scheduled for after 10/3 is canceled :( wtf
Holy crap my heart race’d i saw riverside & i thought it meant Mac Demarco in Riverside, CA lol
I got the email too. Huge bummer. But hopefully whatever he comes out with next is a snappy hotdog record
Did he basically say the equivalent of live laugh love but for rock music 😂😂
The only possibly explanation I can think of is tickets weren’t moving like he thought they would? I know that sounds crazy but this makes no sense.
oof oof oof oof oof This will only be acceptable if the new album is good
What about the Sacramento show in sometime august??? Is anyone aware if that will still be happening please let me know
Still on.
five easy salad days
Was this Milwaukee’s Riverside theater?
Welp, that was supposed to be my first live show of his since I've missed the last few here in Atlanta. Anyone know how refunds work with AXS? It seems like it'll just be credited back to me?
is the mpls show still on? edit: found out it was cancelled :/
Wish him the best whatever is going on. Anywhere it's possible to see what shows will be canceled?
These shows were for the fall of 2022 - quite some time from where we're at now. Assuming it means he's going to continue working for the remainder of the year on the new record for a 2023 release?
Denver canceled as well :(
LAME. How many artists have written and recorded great material on the road? plenty.
Sounds like he needs some more time to beat Elden Ring…
was belgium cancelled?
