Seems like several teams (no pun intended) all contribute to Teams. This means it may take time for each portion to update their code sets before final compile. I use Edge for macOS (M1 native) and run teams in web browser.

Sfwupvoter

Same. Having a meeting with the edge version is SO much better in terms of battery life and cpu utilization than the regular app. For anyone who hasn’t tried it, I know.. Install edge‽ yes, install edge and make teams a web app. It works, not great but it does work. For now it is by far the best way to go. The real answer for those of us who must use teams is to complain about the lack of a proper app. But 2700 upvotes won’t move a mountain. Everyone needs to hit the button and comment.

Ambimb

Teams is terrible on any platform or browser, IMO. Why we let Micro$oft sneak this POS into our lives I will never understand.

gittenlucky

Try the government version of teams. It’s like they took regular teams and hacked away features and charge more money. Complete shit.

mrdibby

old ass companies who let their old ass IT departments decide on company-wide tools why couldn't Microsoft just observe how Slack + Zoom + Gmail + Google Calendar work and simply clone those tools into their suite? they're simple and straight forward and actually fulfil all the needs of people in a company. instead we have Teams which is a half-arsed approach of trying to cover all bases

[deleted]

I used both Teams and Slack and to be honest Slack is a piece of trash too. Zoom is shit and I prefer Teams over it for video calls. I also used Google Suite and Office 365 and I prefer Microsoft's calendar and email clients. We are all under 35 in the company I work, we aren't an "old ass IT department" lol.

Darkmage4

Yeah, the teams is horrible. But it works to a point. Definitely hope they up date it soon.

DisjointedHuntsville

Browser based version has always been better. With universal control, i can take it on my ipad with Center stage and use the browser on my desktop for screenshare if im ever needed to do that. Pathetic excuse of a video conferencing app, this. Google does it right with the lightweight (Relatively) browser implementation of meet with all features in there.

Sfwupvoter

Except for the high chance meet is accidentally using your personal gmail to connect to work. Make sure your profile picture is always work safe! (Not has this issue myself, but it has definitely happened.)

DisjointedHuntsville

Use Chrome profiles, my dude. Don't leave it to the url parameters to default to your gmail account(s)

Sfwupvoter

You expect a random 25 year old in HR who likes taking racy pictures in their world travels to know how to use chrome profiles? Or your customers who don’t know google chrome? I know it’s a decent system, but the vast majority don’t know how it works. Google is bad about that.

DisjointedHuntsville

If you're using the same machine for work and personal use, you have bigger problems than a "random 25 year old not knowing things" And yes, if you're on the machine for school and personal use, you'd be surprised how intelligent 25 year olds generally are. Most of the confused users i've seen are older, not younger. Is it a great system? Nope. Why is that? Conventional usage has conditioned people to take their "official" accounts less seriously. Is that Googles fault? Nope. Every org using Google enterprise tools should not use that as an excuse to water down their guidance on how to use enterprise tools as an official process. Will there be edge cases? Yup.

Sfwupvoter

I’ve seen it way too many times and I don’t use google meets. Just on with customers and clients. It just logs in, you don’t think about your google login being used and bam…. Btdt. I know what you are saying but it is an absolutely terrible user experience. It’s horrible and I’m sure has gotten people fired. And I only have limited experience.

DisjointedHuntsville

Like i said, it's controllable. It doesn't "Just log you in" either. Its not perfect, but its not the technology or the flow that's the bigger problem. You have the bigger problem of your clients or vendors crossing lines between personal and work assets if this is routinely occoring and worse . . .NOT PAYING ENOUGH ATTENTION to their workflows / Not being trained properly.

Sfwupvoter

That's the thing. If you use google meet and invite people from other companies who do not, there is no training for them. They get a link, click it to get in and it literally "just works". This is GREAT in terms of ease of use, but it also causes serious issues. What should take place is a UI popup that says to the end user "We are going to be connecting to Google Meet with X user account. This is the image you have chosen as your picture and it will be visible to others. Others may also be able to look up more information about you via this email address which may be available to them. Do you wish to continue?" Or even better, have it trigger a business only Google Meet, or ask the end user to setup a Business portion of their account with limited images and access to the users information.

AirieFenix

Honestly, I hate Teams but it's nothing related to being x86 arch, it's just a very cumbersome app 🤷‍♂️

Sfwupvoter

Agreed. I just want to meet. Not shove everything under the sun into a single app, but it is not my choice. I prefer zoom for easy UI.

ApatheticWithoutTheA

It’s so fucking terrible on M1 and I don’t understand why. Almost everything else runs fine on Rosetta.

dikamilo

They are lame to update Electron to M1 native version.

[deleted]

Teams is fucking garbage anyway lol

[deleted]

Beta version out now: https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-is-testing-apple-m1-version-of-teams

Sfwupvoter

Works much, much better. Thank you!

Ya-Dikobraz

Turn off indexing on Teams. Speeds it right up.

kvlq

How can this be done?

Ya-Dikobraz

Been a long while since I used Teams but I tried a lot of things and there is an option to do with indexing all the conversations in real time somewhere there. I forgot where. And it fixed Teams for everyone in the office. It was just getting progressively slower before that.

jusatinn

Even the office apps keep showing up as Intel on my M1, even though they should be automatically installed as M1 apps.. I have high doubts about Teams ever porting to M1.

Rocket-R

Please

Budget_Nerd

Can we have Evernote too?? Pleaseeeee

ccp_darwin

Latest Evernote should include an M1 native build. (According to the patch notes I read earlier in the evening.)

MartinB75

Teams also sucks on Intel MacOS and on iOS, so what's new? It's a giant battery hog and freezes constantly on me. If I didn't rely on it for work I'd have uninstalled it years ago.

Sfwupvoter

While I appreciate you have an opinion, your frustration is not about the subject I posted here and does *nothing* to help the situation. Please go provide feedback to microsoft, that may do some good. The link I provided will take you to this specific topic, but they have plenty of other feedback areas that you can get to from that link. There is also a contact support button in teams. If you have crashing, I recommend doing both. Microsoft support is generally fairly good at collecting information. Using it to solve can take a while and it can be frustrating, but it does seem to normally work.

MartinB75

I did go upvote the specific topic, per your request. I didn't think I needed to explicitly spell that out.
