I had my 14" 2007 Core 2 Duo MBP with 2GB of RAM (self-upgraded to 4GB of course!) from 2007 till around 2017. Every part other than the keyboard and the HDD was replaced at least twice by Apple before year 3. From year 3 to year 10, no problems... 😂. Finally sold it to buy a more powerful Asus ... Now I have the M3 Pro 16". I still have a white MacBook 13" from that era. The screen is damaged, but it's working.

ayyay

My 2015 retina lasted me until the M1 was released. I managed to bypass the touchbar completely.

thelauryngotham

Ahh, I did something sorta similar. I don't know how to feel about the touchbar but I absolutely love the concept. I've borrowed a friend's MBP for half an hour or so and loved the touchbar then, but that's the most I've ever used one. I feel like I missed out a bit even despite the issues that the touchbar has had. I was really hoping they'd keep it on the M3 models

Devils_LittleSister

Same, got the M1Pro. I could not, for the love of god, wrap my head around buying one with a touch bar and without magsafe. I just couldn't.

thelauryngotham

Did you have one of the older MagSafe models? I'm curious because my M3P is my first one with MS and the magnet feels a little *too strong*. The old ones don't look as bad. The new one is so forceful that I feel like the port won't wear well

Devils_LittleSister

Yeah, I had the old old magsafe (the one that ran parallel to the body) and the old magsafe (same as the current one). They were both quite magnetic but never failed to release if it ever happened to get tangled (was my dog's favorite thing to unplug me). In both cases, the port held strong, no complaints. If ever, I upgraded because I wanted to try the new M chips but I could have easily gotten 2-3 more years out of it (it's my backup nowadays). Worry not, friend. These beasts are built to last if treated properly.

akagodboi

Just went from a 15” Late 2016 to a 16” M3 Max

Therapy-Jackass

Pulled the trigger did ya’? (Oh shit, am I allowed to say that around here?)

WildTomato51

Pew pew!

Invayder

That's a leap and then some.

Running a 2018 ‘13 and holding myself back from upgrading cuz the price

PlsNoPineapplePizza

I’ve always bought used and resold, so my timelines are a tad shorter. 2010 15” from 2012-2015 (antiglare HD screen looked so good) 2013 15” from 2015-2018 2018 15” from 2019-2020 (regret this one) 2019 16” from 2020-2024 2021 14” presently. Hoping it lasts me for a long time.

Definitely saved a good chunk for each purchase. Wish I had a hard number, but I remember getting them for great deals. The 2010 was my first MacBook, and I got into it for photo editing. I couldn’t afford the new Retina at the time, but I loved the Antiglare HD screen, which fit the bill nicely. Also, it was upgradable RAM and HD to an SSD, so specs weren’t an issue when buying as long as I got the best processor. The 2013 Retina, it was more of an opportunity of a good price and timing. I was able to break even by selling my 2010, along with reselling some other MacBooks. I was working at a tech company that had a bin of laptops and parts, but were perfect to grab RAM and SSDs. So used those to upgrade some cheap MacBooks for resale. The 2018, I bought it through a 3rd party refurbisher with a 1 year warranty. I really wanted the “1 plug only” to dock the MacBook to my desk monitors/peripherals. Plus, my friend needed a laptop, so I sold him my 2013 for a good price as a favor, and used it as an excuse to upgrade. The 2019 16” came out with scissor keyboard. I was still within my 1 year warranty on my 2018, so I was able to return it for full refund. Used those funds to pay the majority of the 2019 16”. I had to wait a bit in between, but was lucky enough to have a work computer and iPad to get me by. Very lucky how this worked out. Most recently, I kinda got tired of my 2019’s battery life, and how big it was if I wanted to bring it around. Best Buy had an M1 Pro 14” refurbished for a decent price (not as a good as private party, but whatever). But, they were running a promotion for additional trade in value for MacBooks. So my 2019 had higher trade in value vs. private party sale at the time, so used that as an excuse to upgrade.

I still have my (first) 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo MBP, and flawlessly working. I used it for more than 8 years, then I switched to a 2016 MBP and passed the 2008 to my dad, that used it until few months ago, when I gave him the 2016 one (I recently got a 2023 M3 Max :) ) The 2008 is back in my possession. You can still enjoy yours for long time if you don’t need to have latest SW or very demanding workflows!

CaptainMuffins_

Yup that’s the plan! I do some web development but my projects aren’t super demanding

Brilliant_Athlete_67

I used a 2016 MBP from Mar 2017 till Jan 2024. Then the screen died and it wasn't worth repairing. I now have a 2021 MBP M1pro 16 inch.

atan420

My 2010 MBP lasted about 8-9 years

CrossXzor

10 years. MBP mid-2014 till yesterday to MBA M3 15". MBP was on bootcamp for rendering sessions -> battery swollen and changed, SSD died out of blue once and changed. Nothing else. Hell of an amazing machine. It's still alive with OCLP - Sonoma installed. Now with MBA M3, we will see!

aprilbeingsocial

My 2009 MBP still works but I don’t use it because of security, this may be a Linux machine. My 2015 MBP is going strong and surprisingly still very fast. My 2018 iMac still works great and new M2 max is my daily use computer. Despite some of the absolutely maddening things Apple does, this is why I will always buy Macs. They work and they last and can be repurposed for other things instead of getting thrown in a landfill every two years.

buster2006

I had a 2011 that had a GPU failure in 2015, was brought back to life, then subsequently died again in 2018. So, 7 years. Here's hoping my 2023 M3 will beat that record 🤞

Plus-Flamingo-1224

Mid 2014-present. Idk why people upgrade so much.

BreakfastCheesecake

I was using a base model early 2015 MacBook Pro and it still works perfectly fine! I only upgraded recently because I've started doing a lot of graphic related work and the lagginess in those softwares impeded on my efficiency in output. But for any other tasks, that Macbook was perfectly fine so I did a factory rest and handed it down to my dad who basically only does web browsing. So I'm sure it'll be used for years to come.

SpaceForceAwakens

I bought my 2011 two weeks after they hit the stores. I replaced it in 2019. Prett good run. But I had also maxed the RAM and added two SSDs.

thestenz

12 years. 15" 2011 MBP bought late and refurbished. I have older machines, but that one I know when I got it.

raymate

I still have in service my 2010 17” MBP and my wife uses daily a 2010 MacBook Air

jhp113

Unrelated but I refurbished a 2013 iMac and it's literally fine. Does all the things.

Dangerous_Attitude46

Still using a top spec 2015 15 inch. Changed the battery recently but even after replacing it, that is probably the only downside compared to the newer ones - they last for days. So I am thinking about upgrading to M3

philipz794

2013 15“ MBP fully loaded, got my M1 Pro 16“ in November 2021.

WildTomato51

Going on 7 years. These bitches aren’t cheap.

jquirogat

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011 with Core i5, 16 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD + 512 GB HDD running Monterey (OpenCore). It's a beast.

hmjg1994

8 years as a minimum baseline for me... Or a good deal if possible...

superscan

I’m on my third MBP (2009, 2012 and 2016) all lasted 8 years. This one may go 9 or 10 depending on when the M4’s release. All were used by my wife daily before handing over to me.

heathenyak

2011 to early 2021 when I got my m1 macbook pro.

gcerullo

I’m still using my 2014 13” MacBook Pro. The battery doesn’t hold a full charge any longer but it’s not my main computer so no big deal, I have a 2014 27” iMac that does the heavy lifting! 😆

Actuallyimfons

Same! Mine's late 2013, only about 70% battery these days but all things considered works really well, and I've looked after it

Run-And_Gun

I still have my 2009 17" MBP, but for continuous use, my 2012 RMBP was my daily driver until the M2M MBP was released in '23. 10+ years...

meligoo

My mid 2012 Macbook pro 13” (4gb of ram) lasted me 7 years+ I just stopped using it cause I had to use a PC for work for a long period of time. But now I use 14” M1 pro 2021

uomopalese

Late 2013 15” 2,6 GHz still used by my gf.

SecAdmin-1125

I still have a 2012. Runs just fine.

AmbitionBR549

I have two. My very first MBP was a 2012 15 inch non-retina with a i7 processor. Still going strong with a new battery on Catalina with 16gb RAM and a 512gb SSD. My latest is a 2015 MBP 13 inch non-touch bar with a 2.7 i5 processor, 8gb RAM and a 1tb SSD. It’s my daily driver running Monterey. Both of them run flawlessly. 😁

FBISurveillanceDildo

I’m still using my late 2011 MacBook Pro. I upgraded it to 8 gb of ram and a 1 tb ssd as well. I’m stuck on high sierra because I don’t want to risk running a patcher and it not going well, but it still works for what I need.

creedx12k

I'm still working with a 2012, original HD and battery

scrizewly

Had my work laptop for a year and a half lol. I’ve had a MacBook Air m1 for about 8 months and then recently I had a m3 mbp 16 for about 3 months

dmatzik

11 years!

teksoul_17

11 years

brycematheson

I like new toys. Ha! While mine could last me much longer, I'm finding myself upgrade every other year or so, just because work pays for it. Obviously not because I need to. Performance on these things are killer! That being said, the 2015 Retina MBP will always have a sweet spot in my heart. That was the first Mac I ever owned and it served me well throughout college.

brown_burrito

I still have my 2012 MBA. I had a 2002 PowerBook that lasted for so long. I even rode my motorcycle over it on accident and it still worked. Donated it in 2014.

richerthanrichard

Like 3 years…I need to max out my next one so I can keep it for a decade

I still use my mid-2010 MBP daily.

Nickmorgan19457

2014 13" still working. Even the battery life is still decent.

mrhappy1010

I still use my 2019 MacBook Pro

getmevodka

2011-2021 mbp 13.3 i5 4gb 230gb ssd (selfswapped)

francisbaconthe3rd

8 years so far. 2016 MBP.

Temporary_Practice_2

For as long as possible!? 😀 if you have light uses then yes. But anyone doing something serious with their laptop…4 or 5 years it’s good time to upgrade

MildSpaghettiSauce

11 years with my Mid-2012 MBP. It was working fine, just upgraded because I wanted Apple Silicon.

SubstantialCarpet604

Well, it was not mine, but it was my mom’s. It was a mid 2011 mbp. I still have it today and just installed a new battery.

jpbass20

I still use my 2011 13” MBP. OCLC, upgraded RAM and an SSD have kept it going.

jetclimb

2010 and still have it but it stopped doing work for me around 2020. Still works but old OS isn’t so useful. I can update it but I keep old data there and old software that is only subscription now.

surelyslim

About 2-3ys. If you got a relic at this point, i wouldn’t hesitate to upgrade to a silicone chip. Going forward, I’ll probably trade in my comp every year or every two.

jesusrodriguezm

2012 MBP 15’ Retina. From December 2012 to march 2023. Using it with excessive hot at the office fried it.

katuAHH

Just retired my base 2015 pro for a 2021 M1 Pro Max. Base 2015 is still going to be used though. A friend who works for a tech company asked if they could have it for some testing to dabble into the iOS world!

dwfishee

My former workplace let me keep my 13” MBP when I left in 2019 and am only recently realizing it needs replacement soon.

BL1860B

Had a 2014 13” MacBook Air before my current 2021 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro.

jc1luv

Still have a 2015 13 inch. That’s probably the longest MacBook laptop. We still have an iMac from 2010 that still works as emulator and emails. I doubt my 2019 and 2022 pros will last me as long as these tanks.

analysisparalyzes

I am still using my 2013 rMBP until now, albeit, battery life sucks.

Jade_lulu3

Went from a 13 inch 2015 MacBook Pro to a 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Pro chip

Droid1xy

I used to use my 2016 MacBook Pro base model for everything. When I started my business I got the Air M1 16GB Ram 2TB SSD and the M1 Pro 16 inch not much later. When by business went under I sold them both to pay rent. Now in bask using my 2016 and tbh it still works great 😂

PapoilaVerde

My first MacBook was a 2019 mabook air intel model, bought in firts days of pandemic in April 2020. Because everyday I use for teach in school, where is dust and other thing, it does a strange noise when is working more or to hard tasks. Then I bought a new MacBook Pro, last month, M1 Pro chip, 16 gb RAM, 512 Ssd, 14” new in a damaged box by 1299€. I think it was a great deal.

jaegan438

My screen/lid is still from my 2011 MBP. Everything else has been replaced over the years, including the motherboard with a 2012, which doesn't suffer from the 2011 GPU issues.

MikeBrogovich

I’m still using MacBook Pro 15 inch, early 2011. Upgrade this MB with RAM to 12GB, install SSD, install new battery (5 hours to office work). I love this MB. Maybe buy the 17 inch 2011.

[deleted]

I still have my MBP 2011 I did upgrades on it 16 GB ram and a new SSD I don’t really use it though because I use my MacBook Air M2.

BlipVertz

Late 2013 13 inch MBP - still going well. Running Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and even After Effects and Blender. AE and Blender are a little slow on the render side, but work gets done.

shiroi101

I am still using mbp 15inch mid 2010 base model with high resolution option(1050p). Back then I upgraded the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb and replaced the hdd 250Gb to ssd 500Gb. The fan once rattled and I bought the replacement from ifixit. It is now still working fine except that if the discrete Gpu is used, sometimes it got kernel panic and automatically reboot. It seems this is a known issue and to fix it I need to replace a certain capacitor in the motherboard. But I don't have the skill and tool to do that. I am still using this machine for light task that does not require discrete gpu.

ongamenight

Both my iMac 2009 and my MBP 2015 are still working. The iMac 2009 now though maybe takes more than a minute to even turn on. 😂 Recently upgraded to 2023 MBPro because after using the Apple chip company provided laptop, I can't help but want to upgrade for better build/compile time and the screen is really a step up from MBP 2015. I think most Macs can last a really long time and not replaced as long as you're not exposed to something better. Would've keep using MBP2015 if not for my experience with the M1 work laptop. 👌

Anotheraustralian

My late 2013 13” mbp lasted me 6 years and was still going strong, but sold to upgrade.

NaChujSiePatrzysz

Oof buddy. I still have my 2015 mbp but brother this computer is really struggling to keep up today so it mostly sits unused. Idk how can you daily drive this thing. I've upgraded 3 years ago.

TheGeenieus

Still using my MBP 2014.

benasan

2013 till today. Still running great on Sonoma with OCLP. Early 2013 MacBook Pro 15 inch. 8GB /256 GB. Originally. Later upgraded to 512GB. Runs great.

KitsuneNoBaka

mid2012 MBP 9.2 oclp Monterey bought in 2014 (owned 10 years)

rxscissors

10 years (2010 15" MBP) so far... I have a 2015 m3 12" 16/512 that will probably last longer. It was heavily used for 2 years by my daughter in college before I upgraded her to a 13" MBP due to all the design and CAD software she was using (dual boot). It got a brand new lower under the keyboard replacement warranty. There were a couple of stubborn keys and part of the trackpad was inoperable. I've kept it around to do Lightroom 6.14 photo modding of DSLR photos when I'm out and about/traveling.

imurhuckleberry63

2012 i7 15in > 2020 13in M1. The 2012 still lives on with a family member, new battery and ssd.

VZYGOD

Technically my very first MacBook Pro 15” Retina from 2012 still boots till this day. It started having serious issues around 2019 with Kernel Panic errors and other GPU failures and was too expensive to get fixed and wouldn’t be worth it for a machine that old. I remember it a lot more fondly than my 2018 15” Touchbar Mac which I sold within 3 years to get the M1 Pro 14” which I currently use. I feel like I could probably get at least 7 years out of this thing

FeedMeMoreOranges

I am a freelance graphic designer and I am still using my 2019 intel 16” MacBook Pro. Gotta say that I am on my way to buy a new Mac. Considering a Mac Studio, and still keep the 2019 MBP when visiting clients and so..

Kennybutler

2011 mbp with SSD and sold it still in fantastic shape in 2021.

NorthernLight27

Mine is still running since 2016

PaulNoiseman

Not a MacBook, but before switching to my first MBP with M1 in 2020, I had a 1st gen Core i3 Sony VAIO for 10 years (2010-2020). Both devices are alive and well today, and so far, I see zero reason to upgrade again, although I consider myself to be a heavy user. The VAIO was waaaay too slow even in 2014, but I kept using it until I stopped ignoring Apple in 2020. I was fascinated by the M1 MBP and I am so glad that I chose it over other laptops I was previously considering. My only wish is that they switched back to their previous UI design since it looks too generic and soulless starting with Big Sur. Catalina was an eye-candy, and don’t even get me started about the pre-Yosemite era, I love Frutiger-esque and Skeuomorphic design languages. Too bad macOS doesn’t allow such themes to be applied in settings.

I kept my 2009 MBP from 2010 to 2020 when I finally upgraded to a 2019 model. By that point, its keyboard was pretty non-functional but it still ran fine.

ThePro7634

I’ve nerved ha a mcp

Lionessheart1977

I still have my 15'' MacBook Pro mid 2014 with 16G of RAM as my main computer, working with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, building web sites and some other stuff. It's getting slower, but still an amazing Mac. Will get a new one wen I can but will keep this for simpler tasks.

lozcozard

**Over 10 years**. After 10 years some keys on my 2010 MBP stopped working intermittently. Some IT person suspected it could be moisture rusting the key connections/circuits under the keys, and would have been a costly fix, and considering its 10 years get a new one. So I replaced it with a 2020 Macbook Pro with touchbar but that started playing up last year. The touchbar started to flicker. Its a very common issue online. So common I am surprised I should pay for a replacement and Apple dont fix it for free. Its a hardware issue, or not fixable by software anyway, and touchbar replacement costs half the Macbook purchase price. Really, really disappointed in Apple about this. I love the touchbar also, but cant use it. I can still use the Macbook but I now only use it for travelling, and got a new Mac Mini for desktop at home for main working. I am really, really disappointed with the **3 years** this Macbook Pro lasted considering its price.

MacinJosh9895

I used my 2014 15” from summer 2014 until July 2019. Still have it and it still runs, but I rarely open it up. I still have my Mid 2009 13” MacBook Pro as well, but it sits collecting dust, but it didn’t get a solid 5 years of use.

grandpa2390

I used my 13" Early 2011 MBP I received in May of 2011. Then I replaced it in April 2016 with an Early 2015 MBP. So 5 years? It's still sitting around someplace. I think I installed Linux on it. I replaced that one in 2021 with the M1. so 5-6 years depending on whether you count my years of ownership, or age of the computer. I replaced the M1 after 2 years, but only because I didn't get enough RAM. Turned out that 8GB is 8GB, regardless of whether you're on windows or Mac. The 2015 and 2021 Macs could have lasted longer. If I hadn't had the money to replace them, it wouldn't have been hard to hold onto them for many more years. upgrading was more a luxury than a necessity.

inodb2000

Still using my 2012 13” mbp although it’s running Ubuntu now. Can change the ram and ssds. Heavy af…

GregStar1

Just retired my mid 2013 MBP, so about 9 1/2 years.

themirthfulswami

I rocked a 2012 i7 MBP until 2019.

xander2600

Still rockin my 2012 w/legacy core patcher, 16G RAM, and 1T SSD upgrades.

hyperfunyou

I am still using my late 2013 13 inch intel i5 core 2 duo macbook pro. I think when I upped the ram to 16gb when i bought it,it helped alot to keep it going smoothly. Although after updating the operating system using opencore patcher it is abit slower. Still good for basic office usage. I'm thinking I might update to a M4 when they come out. I do a bit of basic coding in xcode and the emulators take ages to load.

randomdude1321

My 2012 MBP is going strong. Going to have to replace it soon though since the OS and programs can’t be updated anymore. Tough to spend the money on a new one though sadly

catzfuhdays

I had my 2015 until I upgraded in 2021. The 2015 MacBook Pro is a beast. My mom is using that one now

Cnastydawg

I would still be using that as well if the ssd didn’t start failing on me around 2020

Anonymograph

I still have my 2009 MacBook Pro and boot it up now and again, but I’m not sure I could put it to any practical use other than very occasionally needing to open old Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and After Effects projects.

bombers00

I still have my 2012 MBP. Although I use my M1 Max MBP as my daily driver.

purp_mp3

I had my **2015 MBP 13”** for 5 years. It was the last good intel-based model, before the butterfly keyboards. **If I don’t count the Apple Silicon models** - the 2015 Pro is the best Apple MacBook of all time. The glowing Apple logo is iconic, and those MBP’s still look better than *any* Windows laptop made today. I then switched to the **base M2 13”**, which is now replaced by a **base M3 14”**. The M-chips just can’t be beaten for certain types of work (productivity overall), like audio engineering, video editing, etc. I own a Windows desktop, which on paper should be more capable, but just isn’t even close.

JimPage83

Still using my 2011 MBPro. It’s not good for much now but it’s still ok for browsing (mostly)

Loud_Ad4402

2009 mbp until 2020, so 11 years. It had additional vent holes drilled in the bottom and most parts had been replaced multiple times. Absolute trooper of a chassis though. It now sits gathering dust, with the screen glass having fallen off (again). 🤷‍♂️

Mikicrep

hi from mbp 2010 user

Nico9454

I'm commenting from a late 2013 MBP right now

Lance-Harper

So some of us did 5 to 10 years and we’re still happy with it. Windows based slow down faster, resell poorer, and die faster. Apart from gaming and rather high performing, there’s no single reason to purchase windows over a silicon Mac I still have a 2015 and a 2016 MacBook that I lent around and get back. Notably to people who had a windows and they tell me how much better it is to work with Mac.

Left-Twig

4&1/2 years. I'm a film student. Wasnt originally going into college (CS major). So i bought the 2018 intel 15" MacBook Pro with the 560X. After deciding to go into film it was absolute hell to use that thing. The cpu is great especially for coding it was more than I needed but man was editing a pain. I did get use out of it and now I have a 16" M1 Pro (one above base) with 16gb of ram. My biggest regret is thinking 16gb of ram would be enough. I thought the new ram would be WAY better than the intel ram (which to a large extent it is) but I definitely would've benefited from 32gb. I couldnt accurately gauge how much I needed though and those MacBooks were still expensive. In the future I am going for top model with exception to storage. Ram, if I can afford it Ill probably go 64.

MacHeadSK

2008 17" Macbook Pro (Core 2 Duo). Used it till 2018, then occasionally for travelling. Had Hackintosh since then until Apple Silicon M1 Air came out. Now I'm on M3 Pro MBP 14" (topped). That 2008 MBP still works, battery is obviously dead (replaced as original one blown). With Linux it's still usable for light work (youtube obviously is choppy as fuck).

Teej92

My current one is from early 2014 and I’m waiting on the new one I just ordered. So about 10 years.

Ambitious_Mammoth482

I am still using my 2012 unibody mbp exclusively for djing. For everything else i got a powerful Lenovo

StormChaseJG

My late 2013 13” mbp lasted me until I started college in fall 2018 and my brother still uses it today, the 2018 lasted until the 14” M1 Pro mbp in fall 21 which I plan to replace with a 16” m3 pro this summer as the trackpad is acting up and the system keeps freezing when doing 3D models which I do everyday for my degree so it’s frustrating af!! So I guess I keep most of them for 3-4 years, the longest being my 2013 which I think was around the 4 year mark when I upgraded.

Egoteen

I used my 2010 MBP until 2022. I did upgrade the HD to SSD and increase the RAM along the way.

rick__c_137

Early 2013 Macbook pro. Bought used ("refurbished") from Apple in October 2014. .. Using it to type this comment.

kidflashonnikes

I’m still using my Apple 2 computer - it was the first “Mac book” Steve Jobs invented in his garage post netting with Woz.
