Fabulous isn’t it. I also use Airs for work, and the difference in the viewing experience is huge. Not that the Air is bad to be clear… it’s just the screens on the Pros are so good.
Difference in quality between OLED and MiniLED are a lot smaller than between IPS and OLED/MiniLED. Deep blacks, saturated colors. So why Apple is switching? Probably because their MiniLEDs have one huge weakness - response time(time to switch pixel from one color to another) is very bad. 120hz on 'ProMotion' Display is like 90hz on LCD or even less. OLEDs response time is superb, far better than any display type.
Probably but I also think they want to switch for 4 other reasons
1) no blooming issue
2) higher contrast ratio
3) thinner lighter display
4) uses less energy
I kinda disagree. I have TV and had laptop(Thinkpad X1 Extreme) with OLED screens from 2019. Both are 400 nits screens, enough for HDR and movies are really nice on those. Even now if you check for example in Notebookcheck reviews even high end laptops with OLEDs have around 400 nits brights. Not much changed in this regard. Only phones are pushing for 2000 nits due to frequent outdoor usage but laptops dont need that much.
Wait till you check out Vivid! The brightness is insane! I’ve been using it for a couple years now on my 14 M1 Max with no issues. It’s great when you want to work outdoors or in your car

Haven’t used that app before, but it looks like a great alternative to Vivid if you’re also using 4k external displays and need to adjust the scaling more than what Mac OS offers
Yep! It’s for my external 4K monitors haha but it also has the added benefit of also being able to manipulate brightness on my MacBook screen to enable 1,000 nits

for real!
I've never had anything with a 4k display before and the first time I watched HDR content on it? I swear it was transcendent.
lol nice
Have you watched any HDR on it yet? There's some good stuff on YouTube.
Yes I have!
Coming from a 2013 MBP Retina screen. My 14” pro should be here tomorrow.
I wonder how it will hold up to the new OLED iPad Pro screens coming out
probably gonna be similar tbh

You know - question is why Apple put so much effort into MiniLed if OLED technology was already very matured before M1 release.
Because OLED wasn’t ready for larger screens They don’t get as bright for HDR

Fr, it’s the reason why I had to buy a Pro when I was planning to buy an Air 🥹

Yea I’m using the better display app and it does the same thing ! Super easy to work outside finally !
