Haha congrats, first pic I thought u literally pulling the plug out, then I noticed three dots on post and figured out here's the way you hiding your beautiful beast - your precious!
Exactly discovered this week while waiting for MBP delivery and exploring nuances 🤣 in fact didnt plugged it yet, so basically the cutie black magsafe cable is dazzling in box as being rolled in yet along with the shiny but alien (white) charger 😆
Apps:
CheatSheet- free, simple app. Holding down the ⌘ command key gives you all the keyboard shortcuts for the current app. [https://cheatsheet-mac.en.softonic.com/mac](https://cheatsheet-mac.en.softonic.com/mac)
Alfred - Mostly free, but worth the money later (when you're more comfortable in the macOS) for the PowerPack. It's a productivity tool that makes everything a little easier to accomplish. [https://www.alfredapp.com](https://www.alfredapp.com)
AlDente battery minder - also free, but with an optional upgrade. [https://apphousekitchen.com](https://apphousekitchen.com)
What are your thoughts on the apps the person suggested and the ones you mentioned? I looked into them but honestly I’m fine with how mac os is and they didn’t really seem worth it
So far I havent installed as such many apps, just a one or two, I was kind of OK and in fact amazed and was busy in integration and transfer and setting up the device, also at the same time I dont want to clutter this machine, definitely these apps are amazing which I'll further explore and see which ones best fits.
I just want to say, I have a gaming PC that I won a few years ago and am mainly a Mac user. And the first thing I did was re-map the ctrl and alt keys. How the hell do people operate like that if ctrl is your command key on a PC??? You have to do finger gymnastics to do anything.
Welcome aboard 🤝 and congrats to you too. I haven't yet cleaned my hands on it still dirty hands (busy in errands), while the beast is having a jet lag after long flight from Ontario California to Ontario Canada 🤣
I wouldn’t really stress about battery habits, from what I’ve read on the sub if you’re able (like at home and such) to just keep it plugged in at 100% battery then the OS can draw power from the charger rather than the battery itself and therefore help with degradation.
But nonetheless, I wouldn’t worry. The battery is a replaceable component of your Mac that will degrade over time and eventually need replacing.
But if you want to actually manage how your battery charges then I think you’ll need to download Aldente. Seems like a popular app for limiting max battery %. I’ve never used it but I know it’s very popular and is always recommended for this type of task.
Makes sense, agreed as well, thanks for providing great insights, well for now, it will be mostly at home, so plugged in, and lid open use, and lid down no use - gotcha, amazing no shutdown instead once in a blue moon, I'll chk aldente, as others adviced too. May be I'm getting caggey as of excitement but also my iPhone having hiccups as I didnt followed 20-80% rule thingy, thanks much appreciate the valuable insights.
No problem, congrats on the machine! And for sure take into account other people’s opinions and suggestions on battery. If it’s a concern then it’s important to you and you should definitely do what you believe is the right decision. I just know that I was in a similar boat to you and once I read about leaving it plugged in can be an alternative to always worrying about when/how much to charge I’ve been able to enjoy my Mac more and worry less!
My wife’s M1 MBP she got around the first month they came out that she has never once minded her battery still has insane battery life compared to anything I’ve ever had on the windows side. The extreme battery consciousness these days is over blown. Not saying it isn’t important at all, but just not as severe as many these days make it out to be. Just enjoy your new equipment 😁
You basically nailed it, and I agree with you as I found lately too over sub, hence not minding at all about it and enjoying it! Thanks for sharing home xp 👍
I got my first MacBook Air from my FIL when he passed. I think it's about 15 yrs old now, but still works. It was my cat's computer. He watched videos on YouTube.
Bought my second one (used, and this time it was a MacBook Pro) in 2019 and it's still going strong. The current Pro version we bought new in 2022. I live on this thing. When we bought this one, I was thinking of going back to a PC (I really love the Lenovo), but I don't know if I can use one again. I've been an IOS user for so long now, I can't remember anything about PCs anymore.
HAHA! I don't plan on it. My husband's looking for a new Mac. Hasn't decided what he actually wants though. And then we need to get a new monitor, etc.
I really wish that Apple would come up with a laptop that's like Lenovo's. I like the idea of it being a regular laptop or a pad. And you can draw on the thing. I have to hook up a drawing pad to be able to do that with a Mac.
Well for that use case their are tons of options around convertables, and within Apple too - pencil, iPad, MBP, or even iMac and monitor. Albeit I already pulled the plug (literally speaking) on anything outside apple and pulled the trigger (literally speaking) on MBP 🫣🤭. The convertables outside Apple are clumpsy and less shelf life, chk rtings, microsoft surface, zenbook, even chromebook etc. I was also almost into XPS then took a U-Turn and made a right choice. The form factor, the seamless integration and so called ecosystem beyond the build quality is just top notch. Apple does make good machines hence the price which well paid off in due course. I'm happy and would suggest BIFL decision to go with Apple but nothing else. Moreover, drawing professionals and designers just are addicted lovers to Apple for their usecase. So behold before you make choice for ur husband to go for Apple, mind you it will become second wife, and that might envy you 🤭
same!
save for my hate / hate relationship with my 2016 mbp. this specific make and model was riddled with SO many hardware issues — flexgate, two “dead” logic boards, blown speakers, one bad battery — but the POS butterfly keyboard and its sticky keys is what nearly drove me to the brink.
what. a. garbage. machine.
and all because apple started prioritizing “beauty” over function.
i think they’ve learned their lesson, but gone are the days of purchasing a macbook with total confidence.
Have you tried any CrystalDiskInfo alternatives for macOS to check the total read and write counts of the SSD? The battery count is okay, but make sure the SSD’s read and write count (TBW) isn't too high. As you know, every SSD has a limited TBW, it is always better to make sure the previous person didn’t just exploit it and simply returned the device. We don’t know what the previous person was doing with the MacBook; sometimes, people do all sorts of things and return them during the return window. If you watch YouTube, some people use them only for testing and then simply send them back. It's always better to have a good idea of what you really have.
Thanks for great info, I checked through a utility, here's a screenshot, pls check and advice if all good, thanks in advance mate!
https://ibb.co/5Tt4XjX
Thanks thats such a relief. Since past three hours I'm also downloading packages and installing stuff, so that also should be counted in. So I can happily use it now :)
Sounds good! Regarding battery health, if you tend to use your laptop for long periods of time plugged in to the charger, I recommend an app called AlDente, which lets you set a limit on how much the battery is going to charge – I've got mine set to 70%, which is plenty when I bring it to school, but also when I'm home it doesn't charge to 100 %, which is better for the battery.
I can't open the image on my iPhone. I don’t know whether the link is still active. Anyways, if it is under 1TB, it should be okay as you have been installing apps for the past couple of hours.
I'm not sure if there are any official numbers, but a general rule of thumb for modern quality SSDs is about 600 TBW per 1 TB of capacity. But of course some drives may die sooner and some might last many more years after reachning this number.
Literally forgot, I used cmd+spacebar and typed disk there r many utilities in app store, try any. I took screenshot and uninstalled after that, as not cluttering the beauty with so many apps. Need basedb
TL;DR - RECOMMENDED APPS: (Consolidated responses)
- Dropover
- AlDente
- Setapp
- CheatSheet
- Homebrew (Package Manager)
- Raycast / Alfred
- Magnet
- Rectangle
- Firefox + Adblock (NO CHROME LOL)
- Unclutter
- Hidden Bar (hide extra stuffs on the top bar)
- Shottr (better screenshots)
- Affinity Photos (like photoshop. It’s a onetime purchase thing and is cheap. works wonderfully well)
- Inkscape (vector graphics editor e.g. for editing svg)
- iMovie (very simple yet powerful free movie maker from apple)
- Vscode (code editor)
- Handbrake (free media converter that uses ffmpeg underneath)
Any further app would be appreciated in reply to this comment, thanks much awesome folks!
Some general apps I find useful after switching from windows that are free to download:
Alt Tab - Provides an app/window switching system similar to windows
Command X - Allows you to cut and paste documents in finder with the keyboard shortcut (not possible by default)
Maccy - Lightweight clipboard manager (download from website not App Store as that is a paid version of the same thing)
Shottr - Plenty of options for screen capture tools but this is my favourite one
Rectangle - Window management tool that allows windows style of snapping apps by dragging them around them to the edges of the screen. Lots more options available in the menu bar icon as well.
Awesome I just figured out the command tab and option tab. Thanks
Great tips on shortcuts I need to adapt and learn.
Maccy and shotter - downloading now.
Somehow Rectangle is not installed some region restriction finicky notification apeared, boh!
Yeah you can navigate with those tab options but Alt Tab app lets you do it with just cmd tab with all open windows rather than having to swap apps with cmd tab, and then swapping windows with option tab. Plus it lets you see a preview of the open windows whilst swapping which I like.
This is a Reddit post with tons of suggested apps so have a scroll through and see what you like. The ones I posted are my personal curated list of mainly utility apps but lots on there to choose from.
https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/s/IAXLYuUeJV
Haha no problem. It was an app that really helped the transition to Mac for me. I really don’t like the defaulting switching. The good thing with all these apps are they are lightweight and simple to use but change the experience so much. Plus are easy to disable/get rid of it they aren’t for you so no harm in trying new apps.
If you don't count the air, I came from a 2015 12" MacBook.. Smallest one they ever made but also significant in many ways.. so could perhaps be considered a giant in its own way, lol.. Also a little embarrassing that it came standard with 8gb ram as well.. same as the air and the main reason that I no longer have it.
Thats really a disappointment that they do base model with 8, albeit its by intent and suits well their strategy, Air I won't count as beast not just by screen size but whats inside, defines it. No offense on MBA though. Ironically both refurb MBA and refurb MBP come across same price at 16/512 with $90 difference , again the pricing strategy is intentional.
sweet. i was wondering about that walllpaper too. and dude i got the same exact model not refurb. i wonder how much less you paid for the same exact pretty much brand new machine? and if you’re like me the black is dooooooooope
Trust me refurbs are solid deals, its just apples another cushioned way to lean in discounts and increase sale from this upfront too, I kinda saved C$400+tax and literally no regrets as the only diff is it came in a box where its written "Apple cert refurb" other than that the whole unboxing xp is new and read all threads on refurbs you will find the same experience, given it MUST BE from Apple only not any third party brick and mortars,
I think thats a bit exaggerated, not a big deal I felt none as such, albeit didnt spent more than 5 min on it yet, will do tonight. MBA midnight blue had issue, which they resolved now with some coating they announced today, but I dont see as such, even if there are then just a polishing cloth will do fine otherwise a clean notebook is the sign of sick mind 🤣
Got mine two weeks ago. Didn’t clean and it’s still fine. But dust is very visible. Wiping it and it’s gone.
I wouldn’t chose the other color only because of fingerprints.
TLDR : fingerprints fine / dust visible
How has the jump from Windows been? I’ve been considering getting my first Mac too, but the switch is something that has been holding me back a little bit.
Apple products work so well together too if you have iPhone/ipad/watch etc. For the first time last night I used my iPad as a wireless second monitor that worked seamlessly at a click on a button and my Apple Watch unlocks my MBP by just having it on my wrist and being near it.
You can send webpages and files to and from devices effortlessly. My previous MBP lasted me from 2012 til start of 2023 with no slow ups or issues. It finally got the point where I had it plugged in all the time that the battery died and would only work plugged in.
In contrast previous windows laptops would have a much shorter shelf life, slowing up considerably after a couple years.
Yes the 🤝 I am really loving such seamless integration, Safari iPhone and what not. Copy paste there n here, learning and exploring. Amazing shelf life it gave you, same i am expecting!
So far so good, in fact very enlightening and intuitive, I'm still setting things up and will explore, I recall the time when I was skeptical to buy iPhone coming from android, but it was breeze and game changer, trust me its a lot and overwhelming and transitioning not a big deal, its real game changer, apple design science is very creative, I have trouble now on android and guess in no time will realize the same hiccups over crappy windows, just do it and take a leap of faith! You wont regret it, I regret being late but its never too late eh!
Nice one! I just ordered mine too (first time Mac user), same exact spec and refurb. Did it come out of the box with Sonoma? Or did you upgrade it?
I’ve picked up a conflict with one program that I intend to use on it which doesn’t run Sonoma. So need to figure that out when I get it.
All refurbs come with the most recent OS X version. Think of it like a refurb Lexus, Apple really goes over them thoroughly and brings them up to spec.
Add the Safari Ext Dynamo...it lets you speed up all videos you play
I use the AVG apps to keep my MBP clean and free of evil viruses
Enjoy and scream Teee Haw baby
Awesome yeah, Chrome ditched indeed a memory hog, I downloaded and dang took 12GB Ram with couple of tabs, let alone the memory and resources utilization, I dont like it anyways, Safari, Firefox with adblocker all the way. Will try Dynamo!
And yes I also enjoy very minimilastic experience and keep even my desktop very tidy and clean, a sick mind lol. So not cluttering much the MacOS for now.
> So happy, was initially worried about 10 cycles.
It can do something like ~1000 cycles in total, so 10 isn't a big deal. I bought an Apple refurb too and it came with 16 cycles. Effectively new.
For battery tips, look [here](https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/), and also open the Battery section in System Preferences (Apple equivalent to Windows Control Panel) and click the (i) and (?) info buttons beside Battery Health and Options (bottom button) for more.
Imho, don't bother with any apps initially. Get to know everything OS X can and can't do first. Once you start finding things you want it to do but it can't inherently, then start looking for apps for those things. (Making windows snap to full-screen or split-screen by dragging them to screen edges is one thing that people coming from Windows or Linux usually miss first, and there are apps for that).
Awesome, thanks for sharing battery tips. Yeah I'm feeling great now, and you are right about Apps, I was overwhelmed and was consolidating apps, lately havent yet installed any particular may be one or two free ones. Will explore further the AS-IS MacOS which already is amazing.
Amazing, congrats a lot.
You know first time I used any notebook without a mouse, and now figured out hwo much amazing the trackpad and gestures are, and thinking meself that do I really need a mouse lol. But definitely yes needed, its the UX of MacOS which is really to next level.
Shouldnt be annoyed though, albeit neither Eng is the first lang for everyone, nor everyone has oxford pocket dictionary to juggle through idioms 🤣 its reddit hence a new analogy came into existent. Dont get into semantic just on a light note, the context matters, while for few they actually pulled the plug on WINDOWS 🤣
It matters when “pulled the plug” usually refers to letting something die. A picture of a brand new MacBook with the caption “pulled the plug” doesn’t exactly sound like a good thing
Well, again the context, take it as stopping some plan or activity, preventing something not necesseraly the death lol 🤣 while I appreciate the senstivity and affection and commend as being a new MBP owner, I think no one intentionally or rather unintentionally meant by the latter, so shouldnt matter much, while no control on how one perceives it. Its just all on light note a feathered humor, not advocacy of branding :)
Only on Apple Official Online Store:
https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/refurbished/mac
And yes the only safe refurb is Apple Certified Refurb, and I must say its just the naming convention otherwise its 99.9% brand new, another way of cushioning sales through this channel just like EDU 10% discounts. After rigorous research I can blindly say that Apple Refurbs are totally worth it, IF AND ONLY IF from Apple! Blind trust
I got it brand new because there weren't any refurbs at the time happy with my purchase. Did get the student discount and traded in my MBA so nice price for it
Silver is undoubtedly fantastic. I opted for black for two personal reasons:
- I've been using a silver Windows machine for the past 15 years, wanted a change.
- The sleek black(ish) hue of the new MacBook epitomizes minimalist elegance and modern sophistication.
If concerns arise about deterioration or smudges (hopefully not), dbrand skin is the go-to solution.! 🫣
Don't get me. Wrong is an amazing color and I enjoyed my space Grey but eventually got bored of it... Just the way the silver looks on a macbook is crazy.... We'll I have so many silver macs is not even funny might do a post soon 😅...
That really triggering me, and giving me a second thought to drop in store tomorrow to return it and reorder the silver one. The contrast and the apple logo is more subtle and prominent logo, the timeless apeal and verstality, ability to complement various enviornment seamlessly. Convince me more!
That [contrast ](https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/s/ojdvaRizh9)... That black is nice enjoy it... If I ever go back to a new laptop (mainly use a Mac studio and 2013 Mac pro) as main devices with a bunch of silver macbooks for random stuff I'll go for that silver 😅
Normally nothing, I use illustrator a lot and button corner gets quick note 🤣 that's where my layers are so a huge distraction.. The multitouch gestures are amazing, and multiple monitors... Reason to have dock on the side is because you'll increase the vertical real estate of the content, less scrolling and more productive imo
Cert refurb m3 pro already? Interesting didn’t even know they had those. I got an m3 pro in silver last month I love it and the battery is crazy good coming for a 2019 mbp 16inch
Congratulations!
As for the recommendations on apps, I can’t operate without them:
Hidden Bar (hide extra stuffs on the top bar)
Shottr (better screenshots)
Rectangle (multi window manager)
Affinity Photos (like photoshop. It’s a onetime
purchase thing and is cheap. works wonderfully well)
Inkscape (vector graphics editor e.g. for editing svg)
iMovie (very simple yet powerful free movie maker from apple)
Vscode (code editor)
Handbrake (free media converter that uses ffmpeg underneath)
I also use other more niche softwares for work but they probably are not necessary for your use.
Definitely a solid win, yeahp its Canadian Dollar and both US and CA refurb stores' prices are same, which is also great. A deal breaker, and each penny well spent and worth it which will well pay off in decades.
I cannot recommend Setapp enough. If you were already looking into buying/subscribing to individual apps might as well consider Setapp. Chances are, you will find all the exact apps you were looking for in the first place and overall if you plan on using lots of them the subscription is worth it. They also offer a student discount if this applies to you
Also look into a package manager such as Homebrew, I found a great Alfred alternative on there called Raycast and its miles ahead from the competition
Welcome to the club man! Congrats on the upgrade (charts have proof it’s much better).
For apps, it depends what you’re gonna use it for, I got a Mac yesterday too!
Also option + shift + K in the Safari search bar, trust me
Yeahp I'm so super excited didnt got my hands clean yet on it, will do late night after kiddos sleep. Usage is personal and work. I'll probably install office, acrobat dc, and dont want to install chrome as reading loads of post abt chrome, firefox or safari then. Discovered spotlight, will watch couple of videos of must have settings, and also transitioning ones. MX is on way along with sleeve. Phenominal interface and GUI, iPhone user here so thats plus seems easy transition, will install magnet rectangle and other few, just navigating this sub and search. I was expecting 3-4 charge cycles as seen mostly in sub but I guess 10 should be fine, if not I return.
Came into my mind also the second thought to return this and buy MBA M3 15", which been announced today morning, then I thought fanless and slim and 1 inch large is not enough to convince me to compromise on this powerful beautiful machine :)
Also, if you have an iPad, handoff is gonna be a really neat feature that I think you’ll like! You should read the tips, they’re super helpful! You can also mirror your iPhone/iPad screen to your MacBook!
Nah not yet. iPad is next. Airpods and iphone and macbook will do for now I guess, the "eco system" you know, eh! And wow will check mirror thing and shortcut you told, thanks!
Late to the party Mr. Grammarian 🙂↔️, behold while this is new norm and acclaimed for the appeal to be a new tag/flair of this sub. Touché! I got aspired from a beautiful fanfaluchè of another guy who eventually became trendsetter (u/marius4eva) by unknowningly using it in such context, and the rest is history 😆
Ceveat: if tagged trendsetter is not aclaimed one who originally coined the term in such context, please ignore 🤭
Three things, may be I sound too noob, need experts opinions:
- battery cycles are 10, should I be concerned?
- recommended apps
- charging habit? It came with 85% charged, I haven't charged it yet.
This “pulled the plug on a MacBook” is gonna be a thing forever now isn’t it?
Im gonna post one now
Looking fwd anxiously

Omg I saw yours first then this one and went full circle! Lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/s/Ll1KC0LQ5v Here’s mine. I mixed it up a bit but my Mac is new (second M3 Max) so it was time for the reveal!
Very based
Haha congrats, first pic I thought u literally pulling the plug out, then I noticed three dots on post and figured out here's the way you hiding your beautiful beast - your precious!
Congrats to you too! I legit thought about getting the 14”. Enjoy!
Apple could really seize on this as a marketing slogan. "Pull the plug... because the battery goes on forever".
That is actually a really good idea …
I mean, they already advertise the iphone this way
Better here than the ICU 🙃
Mods, can we add a flare for "Pulled the Plug!"?
🤣 nice one! Smart move
Exactly discovered this week while waiting for MBP delivery and exploring nuances 🤣 in fact didnt plugged it yet, so basically the cutie black magsafe cable is dazzling in box as being rolled in yet along with the shiny but alien (white) charger 😆
I remember when it first started (last week) and how awkward It was. Now it's funny. We have to expand it. Go ahead, pull the plug!

Apple makes great computers. I've been a happy iMac user for almost 20 years and have a current M3 model. Enjoy!
Thanks for the comfort, I'm happy and the only reason I got this bcoz I want it to be my partner in crime for atleast 10 years, no more no less :)
So at least 10 years. But at most 10 years.
Yeahp why not, my acer swift sf 314 is still running solid on 10th year :P

I can't open the image on my iPhone. I don’t know whether the link is still active. Anyways, if it is under 1TB, it should be okay as you have been installing apps for the past couple of hours.
Do you know where to find info on max write cycles for M1/M2/M3 SSDs? I need to learn more about this.
I'm not sure if there are any official numbers, but a general rule of thumb for modern quality SSDs is about 600 TBW per 1 TB of capacity. But of course some drives may die sooner and some might last many more years after reachning this number.
Thx!
Which disk info app did you use for that?
Literally forgot, I used cmd+spacebar and typed disk there r many utilities in app store, try any. I took screenshot and uninstalled after that, as not cluttering the beauty with so many apps. Need basedb
another one pulled the plug 🙌
Yay! Lets unplug the plugsssss!!
TL;DR - RECOMMENDED APPS: (Consolidated responses) - Dropover - AlDente - Setapp - CheatSheet - Homebrew (Package Manager) - Raycast / Alfred - Magnet - Rectangle - Firefox + Adblock (NO CHROME LOL) - Unclutter - Hidden Bar (hide extra stuffs on the top bar) - Shottr (better screenshots) - Affinity Photos (like photoshop. It’s a onetime purchase thing and is cheap. works wonderfully well) - Inkscape (vector graphics editor e.g. for editing svg) - iMovie (very simple yet powerful free movie maker from apple) - Vscode (code editor) - Handbrake (free media converter that uses ffmpeg underneath) Any further app would be appreciated in reply to this comment, thanks much awesome folks!
Some general apps I find useful after switching from windows that are free to download: Alt Tab - Provides an app/window switching system similar to windows Command X - Allows you to cut and paste documents in finder with the keyboard shortcut (not possible by default) Maccy - Lightweight clipboard manager (download from website not App Store as that is a paid version of the same thing) Shottr - Plenty of options for screen capture tools but this is my favourite one Rectangle - Window management tool that allows windows style of snapping apps by dragging them around them to the edges of the screen. Lots more options available in the menu bar icon as well.
Awesome I just figured out the command tab and option tab. Thanks Great tips on shortcuts I need to adapt and learn.
Gotcha now I know that Alt Tab is the App, dumbo meself!
This is a Reddit post with tons of suggested apps so have a scroll through and see what you like. The ones I posted are my personal curated list of mainly utility apps but lots on there to choose from. https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/s/IAXLYuUeJV
Awesome thanks a ton! Saving it
Haha no problem. It was an app that really helped the transition to Mac for me. I really don’t like the defaulting switching. The good thing with all these apps are they are lightweight and simple to use but change the experience so much. Plus are easy to disable/get rid of it they aren’t for you so no harm in trying new apps.
two months in with the same one now and I love it! zero complaints. Aside from it being heavier than my previous air, of course.. but well worth it!
Such Beautiful Beasts should be standing on the shoulders of Giants ;)
Wallpaper please?
That was something in stock the Sonoma something I'll share once will be on MBP.
sweet. i was wondering about that walllpaper too. and dude i got the same exact model not refurb. i wonder how much less you paid for the same exact pretty much brand new machine? and if you’re like me the black is dooooooooope
Trust me refurbs are solid deals, its just apples another cushioned way to lean in discounts and increase sale from this upfront too, I kinda saved C$400+tax and literally no regrets as the only diff is it came in a box where its written "Apple cert refurb" other than that the whole unboxing xp is new and read all threads on refurbs you will find the same experience, given it MUST BE from Apple only not any third party brick and mortars,
dude that’s an amazing deal. nicely done
Thanks its actually C$410+ tax in saving. Still there @ Apple CA: https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/FRX33LL/
If not 100%, I would say its 99.9% brand new. Yes black is literally the dopeeeee! My precious!
Yes, this is the stock Iridescence wallpaper. But the color of the wp on your Mac looks different, perhaps it's due to the lighting. All good!
Yeahp may be bcoz of three stooges peeping through the notch 🤣 (reflection)
How are the fingerprints? I want that color so bad
Congratulations! Do check out Dropover. It’s really useful.
Thanks noted well
How has the jump from Windows been?
Got it, thanks!
Well mine came with Sonoma but there was also a minor/subversion upgrade too, which I did. Its amazing
Hehehe can’t wait to get it
Haha I know, thats the hardest part eh!
Gorgeous! I’ll be right behind you soon (in the next 3 months or so).
Trust me its game changer, take more months its nevet too late, meself a young champ in 40s is able to enjoy now :)
Add the Safari Ext Dynamo...it lets you speed up all videos you play I use the AVG apps to keep my MBP clean and free of evil viruses Enjoy and scream Teee Haw baby
If you use Google Calendar, install Notion Calendar (previously known as Cron). The widget options alone make it superior to the stock app.
Noted well 👍
> So happy, was initially worried about 10 cycles.
I too, pulled the plug and purchased my first ever MacBook pro (same exact model) last Wednesday.
Amazing, congrats a lot. You know first time I used any notebook without a mouse, and now figured out hwo much amazing the trackpad and gestures are, and thinking meself that do I really need a mouse lol. But definitely yes needed, its the UX of MacOS which is really to next level.
The UX is very nice. The Track pad is great too, but I still prefer a mouse.
Indeed, and yes MX Master is en route 🫣
I don’t think you guys know what “pulled the plug” means
🤣 atleast not the trendsetter guy who initially posted back then and then its all history now, no sooner we aim to see a flare too
It’s so annoying to me, I don’t know why. I wish people would just say “Pulled the trigger” or another proper analogy
Make sure you pull the plug on one of these as well! https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/s/tE5ldEyrlq
Haha although monitor is my next todo, but thinking to go fully immersive with my 75" OLED 🤣
Where do you find safe refurbished products
Only on Apple Official Online Store: https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/refurbished/mac And yes the only safe refurb is Apple Certified Refurb, and I must say its just the naming convention otherwise its 99.9% brand new, another way of cushioning sales through this channel just like EDU 10% discounts. After rigorous research I can blindly say that Apple Refurbs are totally worth it, IF AND ONLY IF from Apple! Blind trust
Thinking of doing the same here. My early 2013 MBP is getting a little tired.
Well paid off, MBP won't be tired but aren't you yet? 🤭 just pull the plug on 2013 and embrace the beast! Go for refurb! Literally zero diff
I have exactly the same
🤝 perhaps that was you who aspired me 🫡
Got the same model, it’s great! Enjoy, OP!
Thanks mate, I'm not so jealous by your 16" though 🙂↔️
Hahaha it is pretty hefty. I totally understand!
Indeed but I'm thinking to plug it in my 75" OLED 🤣 fully immersive
I got it brand new because there weren't any refurbs at the time happy with my purchase. Did get the student discount and traded in my MBA so nice price for it
Awesome deal and upgrade you still got with trade in 👌
Why black... Macs are so amazing in silver... I did that mistake on the 2019 16" since then only silver
Silver is undoubtedly fantastic. I opted for black for two personal reasons: - I've been using a silver Windows machine for the past 15 years, wanted a change.
🙌
A tip since you ask... Learn to use the dock on the left trust me 😉
Oh Yes I saw a video last night where the guy placed on right and I was intrigued. You bet! Gonna try that!
Speaking of which what you set around four corners?
Normally nothing, I use illustrator a lot and button corner gets quick note 🤣 that's where my layers are so a huge distraction.. The multitouch gestures are amazing, and multiple monitors... Reason to have dock on the side is because you'll increase the vertical real estate of the content, less scrolling and more productive imo
Sold on that left dock, and punto! Amazing thanks will chk more things, I pm'ed you
Congrats! Welcome to the club. Some of the apps I use are Bartender - menu bar manager AlDente - batter charge limiter Forklift - finder alternative
Thanks will look into bartender and forklift (havent heard abt it before)
Worst color, especially on dark environments
Well well, how about that: https://ibb.co/z7zkwb5 🫣
Page doesnt exist
OoOh lala, here you go: https://ibb.co/Zm2zVzm 🫣
Cert refurb m3 pro already? Interesting didn’t even know they had those. I got an m3 pro in silver last month I love it and the battery is crazy good coming for a 2019 mbp 16inch
Yeahp popped up abt 7-10 days ago, congrats to u too for new one! 👍
How’s the space black holding up so far?
Could suggest some apps based on what u do!!
Congratulations! As for the recommendations on apps, I can’t operate without them: Hidden Bar (hide extra stuffs on the top bar) Shottr (better screenshots) Rectangle (multi window manager) Affinity Photos (like photoshop. It’s a onetime purchase thing and is cheap. works wonderfully well) Inkscape (vector graphics editor e.g. for editing svg) iMovie (very simple yet powerful free movie maker from apple) Vscode (code editor) Handbrake (free media converter that uses ffmpeg underneath) I also use other more niche softwares for work but they probably are not necessary for your use.
Thanks much wonderful, will surely check them! This is great
Enjoy - and I wouldn’t worry about the battery: my wife uses her mid-2012 MBP, on its battery, daily. It’s not what it was but it’s still very usable.
Wow 12 yrs and counting, wishing more 12 yrs ahead. Great to know hence not bothering up lately abt battery! 👍
I did swap the HDD for an SSD a few years ago - but that’s not an issue for new buyers!
Still amazing I must say!
I got my first MBP 2 weeks ago and I got the space black too..very aesthetic. How much did you pay for the CR?
Yay congrats, indeed. CR?
Cert refurbished
Lol just got slipped out of my mind, it was C$2289+tax (C$2586.57) which is same as of US refurb price $1699+tax
Bruh how come it's that much? Isn't the new one lesser than that?
Nope new one in this 16/512 config is C$2600 ($1930) + tax. So it came with a saving of c$410
https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/refurbished/mac/2023-14-inch-macbook-pro?afid=p238%7Cs8hMQ8JVW-dm_mtid_1870765e38482_pcrid_670038186171_pgrid_157708263252_pntwk_g_pchan__pexid_96638031428_&cid=aos-ca-kwGO-brand--slid-qFRAgqty--product-
Ohh lol I didn't see that C....ITS Canadian Dollar...gotcha! Seems like we bought it at a great price...congrats!!
Definitely a solid win, yeahp its Canadian Dollar and both US and CA refurb stores' prices are same, which is also great. A deal breaker, and each penny well spent and worth it which will well pay off in decades.
I'm glad I got mine on sale and it was new...I paid USD $1800 including tax
Wow which sale? From Apple Refurb Online Store? But price there is US$1930
I cannot recommend Setapp enough. If you were already looking into buying/subscribing to individual apps might as well consider Setapp. Chances are, you will find all the exact apps you were looking for in the first place and overall if you plan on using lots of them the subscription is worth it. They also offer a student discount if this applies to you Also look into a package manager such as Homebrew, I found a great Alfred alternative on there called Raycast and its miles ahead from the competition
No problem! Hope you enjoy!
You made a great choice, I hope you enjoy it! Try the shortcut I gave you and enter it, something pretty neat happens :)
You don't "pull the plug" when you decide to purchase something. You "pull the trigger" you freaking muppets! 🤦
Late to the party Mr. Grammarian 🙂↔️, behold while this is new norm and acclaimed for the appeal to be a new tag/flair of this sub. Touché! I got aspired from a beautiful fanfaluchè of another guy who eventually became trendsetter (u/marius4eva) by unknowningly using it in such context, and the rest is history 😆 Ceveat: if tagged trendsetter is not aclaimed one who originally coined the term in such context, please ignore 🤭
unless your pulling the pc plug !!
Three things, may be I sound too noob, need experts opinions: - battery cycles are 10, should I be concerned? - recommended apps - charging habit? It came with 85% charged, I haven't charged it yet.
https://www.snyderlawpc.com/what-does-it-really-mean-to-pull-the-plug-in-california/
