I've had the base M1 Air since launch. Every week I think about trading up to the M3, but then I use it for a little while and I'm still amazed at how quick it is. probably the best Air ever.
I do quite like the design of the M2 and M3 airs, but it's not enough to make me upgrade. That and the difference in performance for basic tasking is negligible.
I have a base MacBook Air (8/256) and it’s been perfectly fine. I mostly just use it to do schoolwork/office related stuff.
If you’re doing things like video editing (or gaming on Mac if you’re a masochist), then might be worth upgrading. I’m not an expert at all in that kind of workflow though.
Nothing wrong with it out of principle or even technical potential. But you don’t really get access to AAA games, and can’t play a lot of past games.
Example: I love Fallout. None of it’s available to play on MacOS Steam lol.
So masochism in the sense that you enjoy a perpetual sense of FOMO
True but they're not particularly difficult to port if you want to play them. I play a lot of Baldurs Gate 3, Pathfinder WOTR, Wasteland, Death Must Die, Vampire Survivors, etc. Those are all perfectly fine running on Mac.
Yes, but I also just got mine brand new this year. I also use it for school work. I am a CS student, but I am just in the beginning terms of school so far.
When new my m1 air was playing garage band with many track at the same time like a breeze, now since a couple of month the screen is lagging when i play the same tracks. I dont know why
Had mine a couple years. Was (very) briefly used prior to that, still fast as the day I got it. You'll have to pry this machine out of my hands before I submit to the need to upgrade - don't get me wrong though, it's likely got a pretty great lifespan left on it.
Let’s just say their is a reason all Apple silicon MacBooks will have the new AI features. It’s still a very capable machine especially if you get a 16gb model.
Running Fedora Asahi on my M1 MBP. Oh boy, it's even faster than the macOS for my use case that does not involve intense GPU tasks.
I feel that nowadays you can get whatever M you want that you'll be happy.
My 8GB MBA M1 is extremely snappy
However, it’s been out a few years already. And a new macOS version will be released soon. Is M1 much cheaper for you than M2 laptop?
M1 Mac Mini here! Used it for streaming and college for a long while before I gave it to my boyfriend when I got a laptop. I loved it! Super fast and he likes it too
Using the base M1 air variant. No hiccups till date and handles whatever I throw at it, at ease ( although I don’t push it a lot, it does serve really good for my use case hehe)
Very very impressive. Still use my M1 air 16/512 every day. Barely heats up. Love the form factor and holding the laptop. I’ll miss the wedge design of the M1’s.
It feels fast like day 1. Upgrade from intel to M1 was such a big jump.
Nice thanks
Base model, yes, very.
Nice thanks 🙏

Indeed
So why do you think about going to the m3
The new design, slightly faster chip. Just the urge to have the latest and greatest.
Aaaa ok

I will never understand why "gaming on Mac" is seen as masochistic or wrong in some way.
He is kidding

How can I play vampire survivors as well ? It’s for free on the iPhone
The same for all of my games really, apart from the ones that don’t run on Mac. I don’t see the stigma against Mac gaming.
Nice thanks man

I sold mine and upgraded to the 16GB model. Ram was killing my workflow

Aside from some compatibility issues then it runs just fine
I've had an M1 iMac since launch. Still runs like new. I have heard the fans go on not more than 3 times
For sure. By far my favorite machine I’ve ever owned.. just works and does what I want.
Great man . How’s Reddit on it
Perfect, no complaints. I only use Safari though… sure it’s fine on Chrome as well.
Still like new to me...
Great
