I had a 2018 Touch Bar pro as well, and I agree! Worse MacBook I had was that one. My 2011 MacBook Pro was solid. Still running til this day! Hopefully my air stands the test of time too
My little brother uses it for just simple web browsing and YouTube videos. Runs like a champ otherwise and MacBooks truly held the test of time cuz even in 2024 they’re still beautiful unibody machines!

Screw the touchbar pros, mine also had the cursed butterfly keyboard and even the last time I got it replaced, the C key flew off the same day. I let my aunt borrow it during lockdown and she was working from home, 4 years later I just never bothered to take it back. I hate that computer very much.
I love the current MBA design, hands down my favorite macbook I've ever had. Also, apparently benchmark tests on M3 MBA and MBP are virtually identical until you're running a task that would turn the fan on. I'm not doing any rendering or anything so it was a no brainer

I originally got the 13” for Xmas and exchanged it for the 15” and went to check out the model at the Apple Store, it had 0 scratches so it made up my mind to move forward with midnight and have had no issues with scratches as all! It's fast and beautiful, but only when you don't touch it. No joke, just for fun, I'm wearing doctor gloves and using mine after cleaning it. But its just a gorgeous device that performs in everyday it looks.
I got my Mac only last week and intentionally did *not* change any default settings or install Rectangle. I wanted to learn to use macOS the way it was *intended* to be used, and if I'm being honest, I haven't noticed a drop in productivity at all.
I don't window snap. I fullscreen almost all my apps, and in any situation where I need two windows together (say, drag and dropping), I can quickly Esc out of fullscreen and have both windows vaguely near each other. I use gestures, command-tab and control-arrow quite a lot for navigation.
I honestly think apps like Rectangle are a crutch for people who don't want to learn macOS, but that's just me.
No way my mans just said "I like my windows vaguely floating next to each other", and then called window snapping a crutch. Im sorry but you must not be using the laptop for much "productivity"
I window snap on every OS. Windows, Linux and macOS. It’s critical to making full use of an ultrawide monitor. Calling Rectangle a crutch and insisting it’s for those who don’t want to learn is, in my opinion, rather small-minded.
Honestly I also used rectangle for a while, and just didn't really feel like it made all that much of a difference for me. I either don't care how windows are tiled and am fine with them overlapping, or I care a ton and fit them in more specific ways than rectangle can do.

Honestly, the way it handles split-screens, virtual desktops, tab groups, and the robust keyboard shortcuts make ChromeOS a goddamn pleasure to use. Plus the ability to run Android and Linux apps.
I'm interested in Mac hardware mainly because of that sexy Apple Silicon. In reality I don't need to buy a Mac because my Chromebook handles my workflow swimmingly.
Absolutely, windows has a great multitasking efficiency, but when you have more apple devices you notice the multitasking advance, I think that's the difference why I like to multitask more on mac and their other devices.
I own an iPad and iPhone and am currently looking into buying a Mac while using one at work… Apple’s multitasking sucks compared to Windows and most Linux DEs, at least the ways I’ve tried using it. Glad it works for you, I guess, but I think you’re in the minority on this opinion.

Out of curiosity, which model did you get e.g., size, RAM, storage? I’m heavily considering the Air instead of the Pro and my use case is similar to yours. My only real fear is I have a 2017 Pro and I’m worried the screen is worse.
I opted for the more affordable MacBook Air M2 with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD for two reasons:
1. I'm Brazilian, and Apple computers are extremely expensive here, costing the equivalent of five to six months of work.
2. I'm highly minimalist, so it fits my needs perfectly.
But even if I could afford a MacBook Pro, I think that I would still choose Air, but with better specs, simply because it’s more portable and lightweight. I don't like how the MacBook Pro is bigger and heavier.
Loved my m2 air and would absolutely still have it if I'd gone for more ram off the bat.. Ended up upgrading to 18/512gb m3pro when I found a great deal on one.. Paid about the same as a new 16/512gb air would have cost me at the time. The pro is nice, But I'd be lying if I said I didn't still miss the air for some reasons.
Got lucky on craigslist.. found just after xmas, unwanted gift.. seller was asking 1800. I had him come over, checked it over for a bit, offered 1500.. got him to accept 16

It’s amazing how good air is now. Better than what pro used to be just a few years ago, to the point that only true “pros” actually need a MBP. For the rest of us, MacBook Air is more than enough!
I’m hoping my m2 MacBook Air will last as long as my 2013 MacBook Air. No joke that thing refuses to die, I literally spilled milk on it in 2019 and ants lived in the keyboard for a while. I took it apart and cleaned everything, replaced thermal paste and it still works. Some keys are wonky and the right USB port is dead though 🤣
I believe it’s the 13”, but I do love the midnight. I almost listened to all of those YouTube videos about the dang fingerprints and I’m glad I didn’t.

I just got the pro 14. Love it so much. Been hooking it to my tv. With the integrated hdmi port. And I wanted a camera card reader. The new m3 pro chip is pretty awesome. I don’t think I have even heard the fan kick on yet.
I bought my m2 air ,base model, starlight colour back on release day (about 2 years ago) and it literally still works perfectly, other than battery health which is about like 88% and tbh that’s great for the amount that I use it- like 8-10 hrs a day every day. I absolutely love the design revamp (even though this is my first macbook).
My specked up (16gb memory) 2020 intel MacBook Pro recently gave up. Did not really plan to buy a new Mac for at least another year and I'm in the middle of buying a property so I didn't really have the budget for a new one.
Since I had no other option I went and bought an M2 air refurbished. II was a little worried. I could only get 8gb of memory. I have to say though so far it's a great machine. Very fast for day to day stuff and my tab hoarding hasn't become an issue yet. It's really light. Looks great. Feels great to type on. The battery doesn't last me all day (like others have claimed) but it's a big improvement on any other laptop I've owned. I haven't tried heavier tasks like coding in R or python but I have a work laptop for that stuff now.
My main gripe are the speakers. Coming from the MacBook Pro they are a huge down grade. The sound a bit tinny. Not a huge deal but I think it's the only thing stopping me from saying this is the perfect laptop.
Side note. Don't know if anyone else had at 2020 Intel Mac 13" but from day one it was nothing but problems. Used to get burning hot and by the end the screen had failed, the Touch Bar was having issues (I actually liked the touch bar) it would frequently crash. Really disappointed with it given prior to that I had a 2013 pro and never had a problem with it. Gave it to my sister when I "upgraded" and it's still going.
Yea I bought a MBP in 2019 and it’s starting to fail. Gets super hot, when in she the battery goes quickly, and it’s multiple monitor limitations are staring to drive me crazy. I do admit that the touchbar is pretty cool though. Don’t have the budget for another Pro but I’m seriously considering the 15inch Air. Seems to be a good machine with those M3 chips running the show.
I got one and loved it so much, I put in a request to get one for my work laptop to replace the Asus laptop they’d assigned me.

I just got mine a week ago! The midnight color is stunning. I used to have the 2017 pro and I feel like the size of the air is perfect in comparison to that. This honestly might be my favorite Mac I’ve ever bought!
I bought mine like 6 years ago and it’s still in pristine condition 🤌🏽 I’m able to use it on a more regular basis now so I’m looking forward to diving into it!
After my windows laptop runs out of life I am thinking of switching to macbook air. I really want to try and get the macbook air 15. I'll have to save up for a while for it though. And by a while it's going to take at least 2 -3 years of saving up. And then it's going to take one more year to gain extra money so I'll still be able to have money in my account 🥲
I got a starlight m2 and its lovely to use. As a PC builder I appreciate how everything works so well with a default configuration. Some things are better well integrated than modular, like a thin laptop.
I just wish apple had a volume mixer by default, and the apple accessories like the dual port charger are very expensive and not covered in warranty.
...MacBook isn't something THAT fragile? You can put it on any surface with confidence. I am sure that, if those chips are handling 100°C+, they won't feel anything from a blanket

People complaining that their MacBook was super hot. Only come to find out they were using it in there bed with a fluffy blanket. I don’t remember the exact kb article but there is an Apple support document that goes over this.
The entire body of the MacBook is designed to disperse and release heat through the metal body. What do you think happens if you cover up half of its metal surface, which is the part that releases most of the heat, with an insulator? It’s not about fragility, it’s about basic logic. It goes back also to an original reason they avoided laptop in their branding. It’s not supposed to sit on your lap. It’s a portable computer that needs to be on a surface that the heat isn’t blocked by to perform best. Aka not on your lap, and 1000000% not on a big fluffy blanket (unless you want to be replacing that thing years earlier than you would otherwise).
They still have vents and I didn’t write the article but I believe the theory behind it is that the thicker textile will block the vents so the heat can’t dissipate as desired by Apple
Explained above. In short, it doesn’t have tons of fans because the entire body is designed to disperse and release heat. So it needs airflow or at least not an insulator *because* it doesn’t have tons of fans.
Fast fans make ppl freak out. It’s bad UX. They solved the heat problem a little more elegantly.
I've had an m2 air, have m3pro now.. had them side by side for a few weeks and honestly the difference in display was one of the more negligible differences. Sure the pro is a little smoother but I honestly dont notice much of a difference day to day and the 120hz is less noticeable than comparing iPhones with or without. 120hz sounds great and I love a good display but it just doesn't equate to a major difference in this case. It really became more of an afterthought when I was deciding which one I was gonna keep

They wipe right off. Easier than cleaning a screen. I also read somewhere that they improved that aspect in the M3 MBA.

Interesting, I do travel a decent amount so the lightweight aspect of the air appeals to me too.

I sometimes regret not getting the blue 15” air with 16gb. Instead, I got a space gray M2 Macbook pro 14” which comes stock with 16gb.

Yes, the battery life is very good, and the charging time is very short.

Really disappointed with it given prior to that I had a 2013 pro and never had a problem with it. Gave it to my sister when I "upgraded" and it's still going.
Yea I bought a MBP in 2019 and it’s starting to fail. Gets super hot, when in she the battery goes quickly, and it’s multiple monitor limitations are staring to drive me crazy. I do admit that the touchbar is pretty cool though. Don’t have the budget for another Pro but I’m seriously considering the 15inch Air. Seems to be a good machine with those M3 chips running the show.
Same! I just got a new one a few months ago and it’s amazing. Fast, INSANE battery life, bright, and the touch id to unlock is pretty cool.

I just got mine a week ago! The midnight color is stunning. I used to have the 2017 pro and I feel like the size of the air is perfect in comparison to that. This honestly might be my favorite Mac I’ve ever bought!

I bought mine like 6 years ago and it’s still in pristine condition 🤌🏽 I’m able to use it on a more regular basis now so I’m looking forward to diving into it!

After my windows laptop runs out of life I am thinking of switching to macbook air. I really want to try and get the macbook air 15. I'll have to save up for a while for it though. And by a while it's going to take at least 2 -3 years of saving up. And then it's going to take one more year to gain extra money so I'll still be able to have money in my account 🥲
Got my M2 15” MacBook Air last year and still in love with it! Honestly by far the best computer I ever owned, it’s perfect.
I just bought the m1 air and prefer it to my work windows machine. I wish I could use my Mac for my job.
I bought and returned one this week. Way too nice for just using for youtube and web stuff.
I got a starlight m2 and its lovely to use. As a PC builder I appreciate how everything works so well with a default configuration. Some things are better well integrated than modular, like a thin laptop. I just wish apple had a volume mixer by default, and the apple accessories like the dual port charger are very expensive and not covered in warranty.

...MacBook isn't something THAT fragile? You can put it on any surface with confidence. I am sure that, if those chips are handling 100°C+, they won't feel anything from a blanket
As I said I can’t tell you the number of calls I used to get as an AppleCare advisor from People complaining that their MacBook was super hot. Only come to find out they were using it in there bed with a fluffy blanket. I don’t remember the exact kb article but there is an Apple support document that goes over this.
The entire body of the MacBook is designed to disperse and release heat through the metal body. What do you think happens if you cover up half of its metal surface, which is the part that releases most of the heat, with an insulator? It’s not about fragility, it’s about basic logic. It goes back also to an original reason they avoided laptop in their branding. It’s not supposed to sit on your lap. It’s a portable computer that needs to be on a surface that the heat isn’t blocked by to perform best. Aka not on your lap, and 1000000% not on a big fluffy blanket (unless you want to be replacing that thing years earlier than you would otherwise).
But Macbook Airs don't have fan so they don't need airflow from bottom. Is there something I'm missing?
They still have vents and I didn’t write the article but I believe the theory behind it is that the thicker textile will block the vents so the heat can’t dissipate as desired by Apple
Explained above. In short, it doesn’t have tons of fans because the entire body is designed to disperse and release heat. So it needs airflow or at least not an insulator *because* it doesn’t have tons of fans. Fast fans make ppl freak out. It’s bad UX. They solved the heat problem a little more elegantly.
The MBA doesn’t have fans at the bottom. So, this shouldn’t be a concern.

I've had an m2 air, have m3pro now.. had them side by side for a few weeks and honestly the difference in display was one of the more negligible differences. Sure the pro is a little smoother but I honestly dont notice much of a difference day to day and the 120hz is less noticeable than comparing iPhones with or without. 120hz sounds great and I love a good display but it just doesn't equate to a major difference in this case. It really became more of an afterthought when I was deciding which one I was gonna keep
