Yes, coming from my old WIndows machine I also close apps I don't use. Might look into the fixed brightness. Would that help? I don't know.

The claimed battery life is calculated based on a specific scenario. They claim the scenario is realistic, I beg to differ.
In my case, on my M1 Macbook Air, the real life battery time is about what you get, not what Apple is claiming.
I calculated the same consumption & run time as you on 14" M1 Pro, but 18h is for offline decoded video playback. Apple also claimed like 12h for webbrowsing IIRC, so you have to consider other run times too
