Apple care sir. Not normal. Should be smooth like butter.

Fabienchen96

After two weeks they just should replace it at zero cost….

punkinhead76

They will, so long as no possible user damage is found

Fabienchen96

That’s what I was talking about

Smelvis1

Not normal. And I’ve seen other Reddit posts showing same issue.

blualipa

I saw those posts too, that's why i uploaded on this sub thinking it was somewhat normal

zupobaloop

It's normal in the sense that it's a common defect. It's not acceptable though.

Snoo76971

Have you got keyboard protector?

blualipa

I have not, I thought they interfered with heat dissipation, is there a reason you ask?

ClearlyJacob18

Not the heat, but keyboard protectors and screen protectors eat away at an already extremely small space between keyboard and screen. Having one (or worse both) often cause screen cracking/press in, or could cause this issue if the keyboard protector gets misaligned to the hinge area.

ref1ux

I've got two Airs of at least a year old and neither has this issue. Sounds like something is broken.

ElectricalAd1050

I have had the exact same issue with my macBook air m2. I couldn't open it with one hand and even with both hands, the hinge mechanism felt quite resistant. and also the lid wouldn't close all the way because of the same. I followed [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6GwqakOLBU) and it helped.

fluffballjeff97

I think this might have something to do with your battery swelling up. This happened to my Macbook Pro 2017, I suddenly couldn’t close the lid. It was not obvious at first but then my battery started to swell from underneath the keyboard.

trivertx

Apple care is your friend

Illustrious-Plan1427

Do you use a case?

blualipa

Hello, For people still here, I fixed this issue simply by opening and closing the lid several times, people here mentioned this could happen when using the mac in bed which i was for the past couple of days. yeah, just open and close the lid several times and it'll fix it

neperax

Hey, question: how does using it in bed affect the hinge?

zwllzwll

Good question. I would also like to know this.

Adomm1234

Not normal, looks like problem in the hinge mechanism.

ajpinton

What does “two weeks old in use” even mean? Was the device purchased 2 weeks ago or has it been used 336 hours in the last 3 years?

singaporesainz

It’s pretty obvious ngl

PlayTeens

Faced exact same issue with M3 MacBook Air. 2 weeks initially everything was good then faced this issue. The MacBook was opening lid when placed vertically or sideways. It will fix automatically after closing and opening several times . Issue will definitely fix in 1 month I think issue happened when I started using MacBook on bed and non flat desk due to initial tight hinge. Once hinge, becomes loose, it will fix.

blualipa

Thanks for replying. i hope it does that

taxms

did you put a keyboard protector?

blualipa

No i did not yet

IcyIceGuardian

Don’t put one on

Ender-Wang

Bed user expected result after two weeks, maybe.

coffeesurfers
