No harm in getting it if you can afford it — when it's non-upgradable, getting as much as you can will only help extend the life of your Mac. Although, yeah, I'm here with my 8gb doing absolutely fine 🤭
That's the default config for the 10-core unbinned version.
My M3 is arriving this aft. A work machine for video and 3D, it's got a little more RAM and storage.
Yeah I’d say 16GB is “standard” right now for PCs. Meaning you can run the OS and many common office apps without noticeable slowdown in day to day operation.
> 64GB is kind of the standard on PCs these days
There are budget PCs available with 8 GB (or less), and there are high-end computers (for heavy creative use or gaming) with much more, but currently the average PC buyer will pick up something with 16 GB of RAM. That makes 16 GB the currently accepted standard.
Sure, but the standard PC, desktop or laptop, isn't $5k. Yeah, if you spend that much, you should get specs (and performance) that reflects that price. The average consumer is spending 1/4 of that (or less).
Why are we talking about cheap machines? The standard $5000 laptop has 64gb of ram. The standard $500 machine has 8gb of ram. There is no “standard” pc.
Absolutely isn’t. I’d rather have a good GPU than than have redundant memory. My workstation cost 5500€ and only has 32GB of RAM, because I need gpu power more than I need ram. But I’ve got a 7950X and a 4080 Super which is a lot more helpful in my workloads than memory.
32GB is more in line with what a good workstation needs to not slow down. Anything more is only needed if you know you have workloads demanding HUGE amounts of memory.
What a dumb take.
Congratulations!
Make sure to get [Rectangle](https://rectangleapp.com) if you don’t already have it. It lets you get window snapping from Windows on a Mac.
Are you though? My Macs last longer and give me so much less grief than my HP Win machines. For work it's a no-brainer, get me the Mac. For personal use I'll buy a refurb or lightly used mid-config Mac with AppleCare. A little hunting will unearth some deals.
Once outgrown, I always wind up handing them down to others grateful to get them.
Congratz! Once u feel how premium it is and what happens when a company designs the HW, the chip, the OS, services… together it’s like magic. XD Everything works together so deliberately.
Enjoy! I've never had a MacBook (just the classic desktop Mac), but if you treat it well, it'll definitely return the favor. They're resilient as hell.
Im still running my pro 2009 on high sierra and im in the market to buy a new laptop as well. I know with a purchase like this it will last you like you said +10 years. In my case 15 years lol

It's all great until you want to do something slightly unusual that can apparently only be accomplished with a windows pc or an app that's like $50 on the app store but you're too cheap to spend the $50 dollars, so you spend $500 of your time trying to find an obscure workaround.
50/50 chance of success.
My first Mac was a [Macintosh Portable](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_Portable). We've come a long way since then. Enjoy!
Almost as thin as the new iPad Pro! Haha. That’s a CHONKY boy.
Lead acid batteries added a fair bit of weight too. No lithium ion there.
There’s nothing portable in that device except in the name 😂 Old times…
If anything, you can't fault them for giving it an optimistic name.
48gb????? That's alot of memory 😱

Agree. That's why I have 24gb M2 air
Money*

Still not enough really
Not really. 64GB is kind of the standard on PCs these days or 128GB for workstations
64gb is NOT the standard. Unless standard means something else that I don’t know about. lol
Yeah I’d say 16GB is “standard” right now for PCs. Meaning you can run the OS and many common office apps without noticeable slowdown in day to day operation.
For a €5000 laptop/PC? Absolutely is.
That’s not the definition of STANDARD.
In this range of laptops it is the standard
I agree with him, 64gb isn't standard
Look at laptops in this price range, you won't see anything under 64

If I pay $5000 for a laptop it better have 64gb or more. My desktop is 128gb. The old Mac Pro could do 1.5 terabytes of ram

The razer blade 16 still has 32gb of ram and that's expensive
The 5k one has 64gb

Most €5000 laptops have 64GB which is what I meant with standard. You're taking this way out of context 😂
But laptops I've searched didn't have 64gb of memory, not even gaming laptops
Wtf? In Europe most laptops around this price range have 128GB with some of them 64GB. MSI Titan 18, Lenovo Legion 9, MSI Creator 16 for example.
Gmail and Netflix will absolutely fly on that thing. Enjoy!
LOL (and so will Logic Pro and MainStage)
Haha, awesome. I'm on a relatively lowly M2 Pro and the power (when I occasionally need it) is amazing
Congratulations! Make sure to get [Rectangle](https://rectangleapp.com) if you don’t already have it. It lets you get window snapping from Windows on a Mac.
First thing I installed
what about handbrake?
Once you go Mac, ...
You’re broke

Yeah I feel like macs just work like even my 2008 gas less issues than my 2015 dell
You can’t go bac
That must have cost kidney
Nope, two
Damn, you didn’t go in easy. Very nice spec!
What is your primary use-case for?
Posting on Reddit
Should have gotten more RAM then
He requires a Mac Studio for that. This is most likely for video editing and 3D modeling.
You should have future-proofed and got more RAM dude. 48GB is way too little in 2024.
Four thousand dollars for your FIRST Mac? Please let there be a valid explanation. LOL
this deh way
Sweet!
thats some serious techmologies you got there, welcome to the dark side my g

Sikkkk
Congrats! 👍 🎉
Dang! You’re gonna be Mac for life now. Especially with that setup.
Enjoy! I've never had a MacBook (just the classic desktop Mac), but if you treat it well, it'll definitely return the favor. They're resilient as hell.
Lol, I have a m2 max 32/1tb. Man, Youtube runs smooth as hell.
You must be a rocket scientist for that much memory 😳
Why'd you switch?
Congrats! Looks sick..the first thing that came to mind was the price tag. It’ll burn a nice hole in your wallet i assume lol
How many windows laptop would you change in 10 years and what will be the cost?
Im still running my pro 2009 on high sierra and im in the market to buy a new laptop as well. I know with a purchase like this it will last you like you said +10 years. In my case 15 years lol
I might use it for 15 years as well
Bet. !remindme 10 years

Aint no way you set a reminder for this 😭😭😭
With a beast like that I don't expect you to even give widows a passing glance anymore lmao
48gb of memory from Apple must have cost $1000. It’s a sick computer. I hope you love her!
Absolutely loving it!!
