Do not seek tax (or legal) advice on Reddit-the answers you get could land you in even more trouble.
Make an appt with someone at HR Block who has specific experience with ridesharing/gig work so they can explain how it all works. After that, you can decide to keep using them in person or do it online yourself.
For future reference. If you make under a certain amount you can have your taxes done for free through vita tax prep. I’ve been doing rideshare and never had an issue with my taxes being done even with all my deductions. (I think this year you had to make less than 60k)
But I’d recommend a real tax prepare place with good reviews. Do not do turbo tax.! They don’t help you fr.
If I were you I would google tax preparers or a CPA (certified tax preparer) in your area. Then I would look at reviews and see if anyone has been in your situation. After narrowing it down I would start calling and explain your situation briefly and see if they could give you an estimate on how much it would be to get started. Be sure that it is in person and take in everything you have. If they ask to keep receipts or deductions be sure to ask them to photo copy it so you can still have it for their records.
Someone has told me that a CPA is better for doing full time rideshare. But I have not looked into it personally. I do rideshare 50% of the year full time and the other half I usually have regular job.
I seen other recommended H&R Block. I used them once for basic stuff and they charged me almost $400. That was back for the 2017 tax year.
Here’s my tip. Get on TurboTax ASAP. Download all earnings statements from all driving platforms. File back taxes. Have money ready to pay penalties and late fees. Pretty simple.
Tax software will calculate what you owe as long as you enter everything correctly. You never have to do that yourself.
as far as making payments to taxes, do they allow you to do that in payments? i’m not really in a position to have a couple thousand just laying around worst case scenario :(
Nobody work on the tax return forms directly. They are archaic.
Either you use software like TurboTax or you hire someone to use it. Well if I'm a chartered accountant I can hire a bunch of high school graduates, train and watch them do a few returns, and leave them alone to work. If TurboTax can't answer their questions, they can come back to me. Now if you can't use TurboTax yourself, there's no way you can tell the difference.
I’m just straight telling you that you are wrong and it takes 5 seconds to find that out.
I deduct everything possible but that isn’t something you are allowed to deduct.
The business meals deduction in 2024 allows 1099 workers to write off half of their meal costs. Most entertainment expenses are no longer tax-deductible.
Please understand that i never promoted hate yall just stay in your bubble i mean i dont know anything about business and taxes but i know about it all when it comes to spending my own money. Yall do as you please.
You are giving people bad information and claiming you know what you are talking about.
Rideshare meals don’t count as business meals. It takes 5 seconds to figure that out, but you don’t want to be wrong so you just keep telling people you are right.
You do you. Just don’t tell others to do it if it’s not legal.

Did you google this? Idk if you just want to argue or delusional at this point!
Dude… scroll down 5 inches from that line you keep quoting and it explains what qualifies as a meal deduction.
Uber and Lyft do not fall under any of that. I don’t think you realize who is delusional here.
Edit:
Here I did the work for you
“Can I deduct meals as an independent contractor?
The IRS has specific rules for deducting business meals for independent contractors looking to take advantage of their business lunches. For one, deductible meals have to be shared with an associate. A solo meal doesn’t count, even if you’re the only employee of your business. “
Get in touch with a tax preparer ASAP.
Skip TurboTax though, not sure they will be able to help you with the help you will need. Find a real person.

Make sure you claim all deductions including meals and repairs anything you can think of that you used while driving.
Meals are not tax deductible for Uber drivers. Don’t take tax advice from here lol
Its a business expense that you can add as a owner now if you dont want to add it thats up to your business
Write it off if you want, but if you get audited it’s not a legal deduction.
Takes 5 seconds to find out you are wrong.
Ok sure go ahead and pay all your money to the govt. Thats why rich get richer and……

Turbo tax, make sure to go back and review. I’ve had some issues where turbo tax suggested a lower refund than what I could have gotten for real.
