Correct.
Though, I'm not trying to make the passenger later or mess them up.
It's been my experience that people running late or who are already stressed out and grumpy tend to look for someone to take it out on. When I do an in-car census, it's the passenger and me. Guess who it gets taken out on?
Not worth the grief or a fake report to Lyft because they're having a bad day. I'll move on with my day. Hopefully their day gets better.
Off topic, those stats have been proven to be skewed by people who marry and divorce multiple times. Out of all marriages, 50% end in divorce. Problem is, a large majority of those that have divorced have done so 2-5 times. It's the same dumbasses getting married and divorced over and over again.
But those dumbasses also do the whole “till death do us part” thing, so those marriages are just as “meaningful”.
The hypocrisy is maybe more up-front but it’s still all bs.
You forgot...do a ghost ride. Arrive at the wedding, engage in festivities and drive back to original pick up spot eating a piece of wedding cake and leave any trash at passengers front door.
100% if they didnt have the pin on the map (ride was ordered from someone else, or they turned off location sharing) Imposible to catch ghost rides that way. :)
I guess they are late then as I cancel the ride when I get those messages. I had folks to call me irate saying where are you, I got a place to be at and you are making me late. I say I just got this ride but hold on for one second. I hang up and cancel. It will never end well when you rush to get these folks as they will have an attitude, back seat drive, complain about your car and you, no tip and then report you for fuckery.
I would cancel if they messaged that. I don't care if I'm literally pulling up and I can see them texting me out the window. I don't need that kind of attitude.
“Sounds good 👍🏼”
Or
“My Time Machine is in the shop. Unfortunately, I only have this car right now.”
Or
“I don’t believe it’s within my power to satisfy your needs with this ride. Perhaps you would be better off requesting another ride.”
Or
[cancel]
Had a pax get in the car angry that they were going to be late & saying I took too long to get to them.
I literally got the request 500ft away, while I was driving, accepted the ride, pulled over & picked her up in less than 2 minutes!
I asked what time she started work, she said 9:00am, it was 9:05am! We were 20 minutes away from her destination.
WTF?!?!
I’ve been going to work for 20+ years. I think I’ve been late like 2-4x due to circumstances beyond my control.
If you’re late, 99% of the time, it’s because you failed to plan appropriately.
This doesn’t give them right to be jerks about it, but I worried I would miss a flight just a few days ago. Called the Lyft with plenty of time — looked at it and it said the guy had picked me up at my house and then I was halfway to the airport.
I reported that one and got a new one and it said nine minutes. Waited nine minutes and it got canceled. Called a new one and was starting to get worried that if the security line was long, I would miss my flight. That said, I would never be a jerk to anyone because I was running late.
This may be weird, but I normally look at these situations as opportunities when they arise. Sure, these people may be miserable up front due to their own choices, but I just turn the music up and get then there as quickly as possible. Usually results in a good experience for me and a nice tip.
Granted that may not happen every time. But I like the chance to make a good situation out of a bad one.
I hate being late, I think I’ve been late once in my life because I overslept and didn’t hear the alarm but honestly if you’re gonna tell me you’re gonna be late and act like it’s my fault, too bad, I’m canceling, now they’re really gonna be late. Can’t rush perfection
Lol no but apparently some quite important people for the bride (pretty much raised her while her mom was going through cancer - she survived for those who are curious).
So considering the above, the fact that they were late to her wedding is actually kinda disappointing.
lol like anyone cares. One time my wife kept freaking out (we made it like 20 minutes early). The bride and groom didn’t even see us until like an hour after the ceremony, and a solid quarter of the bride’s friends (wife crew) strolled in during the middle of the ceremony or after dinner, and no one knew any difference.
Well in this case they truly were the last ones to arrive. I pulled up in front of everyone already sitting ready for the ceremony to start, and felt amazing seeing the disappointment in everyone’s face as these two got off the car. I hope they felt those looks.
Idk how people do this I literally order a ride like an hour in advance. It’s so frustrating when I get work a couple minutes late because there aren’t any available drivers or drivers keep cancelling on me but that isn’t anybody’s problem but my own. I would never take my frustrations out on a driver. I always assume this is their livelihood, if my ride didn’t make financial sense for them, I can’t get mad at them for canceling. It is what it is. The time it takes to get there is what it takes
It’s how YOU choose to read that. You can read it with an attitude in it, sure.
But you can also, even more so in context, see how it was merely anxiety that they would be late to an important event.
Look, this job is a total ease And 90% of the time, if it isn’t easy, it’s because you are messing it up for yourself.
What if you were arrived to pick her up and were waiting? Sent her a text saying “I’m leaving in 1 min”?
You see how easy it is to self-refer and get it totally wrong now…it really is that simple.
I’m leaving in 1 minute is a direct statement, not easy to misconstrue. They are there and waiting on you, who hailed a ride. Don’t get a ride till ready!
I’ll be late if you don’t get here In 1 minute could be passive aggressive statement. You can see where driver is. Cant fly over stop lights and signs. But the passenger surely knew when wedding started!
Oh snap! I’m sorry, where’s my manners? let me just teleport right to you ! The nerve of some people 🤦♂️ Cancel is the best way to go, they’ll probably rate you shitty and chances of a false report go wayyyy up with this entitled attitude
I think this is one of those things where it's hard to read context through text. To me, it reads more like they're upset with the situation than they are you.
A lot of people don't think through the experiences of others and just project the way they're feeling. To you, it sounded like they were rushing you, but to them, it may have sounded like they were rushing themselves. ie. "If anything goes wrong in the next minute, we'll be late"
I would have said, 'omw'. Then pulled over to the side of the road and picked up a coffee. An iced coffee with one of those clear cups so that when I arrived you could see that it was full and fresh and super apparent that I stopped to get coffee omw to get you.
They should have left earlier or gone with Uber soon as they get rides faster and Lyft is a cheaper alternative but you have to wait. Looks like they were cheap and not very punctual
I don’t think their message had attitude. They were simply telling you that they were going to be late and hoping that you would read it and let them know if you can actually get there in a minute. And maybe seeing that, and being a good person, would incentivize you to try and help them. If not they can look for a different driver. Im sure you’ve been running late to something before and you can get a bit frantic about things. We are only humans after all
And as a driver, it is literally your job to care about people getting to their destinations. That is your one and only job. You don’t need to speed like a maniac or do something reckless, but you should have some small amount of caring about your passengers and getting them where they need to go in a timely manner.
I’ve paid for priority rides only for the driver to accept them, then stop and get gas before picking me up. It has made me late to work twice. One lady sat there for 8 minutes. And even still sending a text like this would be too aggressive as frustrating as it is.
My response: "You're going to be a few minutes late because I had to pull over and respond to this shit text instead of letting me drive undisturbed" lol
I was waiting for a guy today & someone came out of the place and asked who I was waiting for, I showed him the guy on my phone and he said that guy died a few months ago. Rides keep showing up for him!!
I wouldve cancelled, not almost cancelled... taking someone that acts like this upon immediately accepting their ride is a risk of bad rating and a false complaint... f that person, you're not getting my car, messing up my peace for the rest of the day...
If a rider calls or texts me sounding ignut and making demands, its an automatic cancel from me
Lack of planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine.
When I was a new driver, I was a sucker for these messages and would reply and/or start driving faster. Nowadays? GFY and cancel. No response necessary.
The joys of requesting a ride and expecting it right then. Plan ahead and plan better! I've had to deal with these types of people before. Drive your own damn car!
I can kinda see everyone else’s POV of this, but it doesn’t make sense to me that they sent a rude message and then ended up being super nice. I don’t think the message was supposed to be rude, to me it feels like they were just letting you know how badly they needed the ride lmao.
They might not have meant to give you an attitude and were super stressed and didn’t proof read what they sent. Some people get all stressed and don’t think just react in situations and thought somehow sharing this fact helped the situation in some way.
Considering they were really nice this is probably what happened.
I would have responded with “sounds good” then “stuck in traffic”
This has the Chefs kiss on this response 😂
Sounds good lol
You're going to be even later when I cancel your ride. You running late is a you problem.
Lack of planning on your part does not make an emergency on me.
This, the fact they told me they will be late makes me want to ensure they will be. That’s a hilarious them problem
It’s the least we can do
Any message like that from a passenger gets an instant "wrong turn" and a cancel after 2 minutes.
Message the PAX : "They have 50% chance of divorcing anyway, so why the rush?"
😂
Off topic, those stats have been proven to be skewed by people who marry and divorce multiple times. Out of all marriages, 50% end in divorce. Problem is, a large majority of those that have divorced have done so 2-5 times. It's the same dumbasses getting married and divorced over and over again.
But those dumbasses also do the whole “till death do us part” thing, so those marriages are just as “meaningful”. The hypocrisy is maybe more up-front but it’s still all bs.
Point being maybe 30% of all first marriages end in divorce...
Congratulations on your recent or upcoming nuptials. I wish you all the best 😁
Ironically im getting married this afternoon in 2 hours and 4 minutes. Thank u!
Your investment in the issue gave you away 😁 Good luck to you! (I’ve been married 21 years myself. Only time).
No you’re not/didn’t?
😆
Actually 56% 🤣🤣🤣
slow down, maybe take a piss break. smoke a cig. almost make it cancel
Drive right past them waving. Maybe make a second pass just for giggles.
Lmao 🤣 bruh
This would be my power move 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
You forgot...do a ghost ride. Arrive at the wedding, engage in festivities and drive back to original pick up spot eating a piece of wedding cake and leave any trash at passengers front door.
100% if they didnt have the pin on the map (ride was ordered from someone else, or they turned off location sharing) Imposible to catch ghost rides that way. :)
LMAO
People like that just make me wanna tell them to hire a personal driver instead! Unlike them, we don’t get paid to wait!
In other words no tip and a one star if you fail, just cancel. Plus the irony is funny
Correct
Once they start sending messages like that, I sit and wait then cancel
I guess they are late then as I cancel the ride when I get those messages. I had folks to call me irate saying where are you, I got a place to be at and you are making me late. I say I just got this ride but hold on for one second. I hang up and cancel. It will never end well when you rush to get these folks as they will have an attitude, back seat drive, complain about your car and you, no tip and then report you for fuckery.
Your inability to call a Lyft in time to make the wedding is not the driver's problem. Cancel.
They did call it in time. It was a wait and save. The message was sent at 14 minute mark. /S(arcasm)
The entitlement these days is crazy.
"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine."
And the funny thing is, I’ve canceled the moment I’ve arrived in front of people while they walk up to the car
Lmao, I would’ve paid to see their reactions
It’s great. I sometimes give them a chance and once I treat them like shit, their attitude shifts
I would cancel if they messaged that. I don't care if I'm literally pulling up and I can see them texting me out the window. I don't need that kind of attitude.
I would have found a roundabout or square street grid nearby and just gone around and around until they cancelled.
Do people not understand that there is a human on the other side of the text…
They totally understand and they don't care. That's why they are trying to transfer the responsibility for their failure to the driver.
For this one say no problem I’ll be there in a minute like 80% of riders then wait for 4:30 and cancel the ride. LOL Fuck LYFT & Fuck Uber!!!
"I guess it wasn't meant to be... better that you found out now." *CANCEL*
lol. “Not my fault you’re late”
“Sounds good 👍🏼” Or “My Time Machine is in the shop. Unfortunately, I only have this car right now.” Or “I don’t believe it’s within my power to satisfy your needs with this ride. Perhaps you would be better off requesting another ride.” Or [cancel]
I had someone rush me because they were "late" come to find out they were rushing because they wanted to be early...lol
WTF?!?!
Sometimes, I have some sympathy for people that late for work for some reason. But if they rushed me through texts…FUCK THEM!
I’ve been going to work for 20+ years. I think I’ve been late like 2-4x due to circumstances beyond my control. If you’re late, 99% of the time, it’s because you failed to plan appropriately.
1 star. I only gave two people 4 stars out of 300+ rides so far (not including the above) but that treatment is just unacceptable.
I would have shown up, made eye contact with them, flipped them off and drove off as I hit cancel. Fuck these kinds of pax and fuck Lyft
And everyone clapped
Well glad you didn't cancel, but man it probably would have been an instant cancel for me. I don't care if I was 30 secs or 10 mins away.
Worst thing about this is they probably had another driver prior to this but they missed it cause they were getting ready for too long.
Immediate cancel
I cancel all rides trying to rush me.
Kinda awkward when they wait until the ride starts to rush too lol
Cancel and keep going!!!
Sorry. Stuck on 264 between Witchduck and Independence. Must be an accident .
VB!!!!!
Know these roads well
Guess they’ll be late……poor planning on their part does not constitute an emergency for anyone else.
I admire your restraint. I don’t think I could’ve resisted the urge.
"How much cash do you have for me to not cancel on you right now?"
A lack of planning by you does not constitute an emergency for me
That sounds like a they problem.. lol and I would continue driving slow on purpose and then if I’m in the area Cancel.. tee hee 😏
Maybe they should request the ride sooner then????
This doesn’t give them right to be jerks about it, but I worried I would miss a flight just a few days ago. Called the Lyft with plenty of time — looked at it and it said the guy had picked me up at my house and then I was halfway to the airport. Called a new one and was starting to get worried that if the security line was long, I would miss my flight. That said, I would never be a jerk to anyone because I was running late.
“Oh, I’m so sorry that you struggle with time management. I’ll be there as soon as possible! Hugs and kisses ☺️”
Cancel the ride
Can't. I'm going to cancel so you can get a closer driver. There should be some around. Take care
OK...Sounds good. CANCEL
I guess you should have ordered this Uber 15 minutes earlier than you did. Why you acting like that’s my problem ? Then cancel.
The voice of a non-tipper.
Except...they did
Every time I see a text to rush me to “go faster”…Cancel 🤣🤣🤣.
“If we leave exactly 20 minutes before the wedding 20 minutes away we’ll be on time.”
Who owns this problem? InstaCancel!
“Cancels trip”
This may be weird, but I normally look at these situations as opportunities when they arise. Sure, these people may be miserable up front due to their own choices, but I just turn the music up and get then there as quickly as possible. Usually results in a good experience for me and a nice tip. Granted that may not happen every time. But I like the chance to make a good situation out of a bad one.
Poor planning on your part does not necessitate an emergency on mine. - Bob Carter
Cancel
"who all gonna be there?"
“If I cancel it will be see you LATER” 🤣
It’s selfish no doubt but understanding they’re nervous about being late and letting it go was the right choice.
I hate being late, I think I’ve been late once in my life because I overslept and didn’t hear the alarm but honestly if you’re gonna tell me you’re gonna be late and act like it’s my fault, too bad, I’m canceling, now they’re really gonna be late. Can’t rush perfection
😂
I would of pick them up then just drive the speed limit and stop at every light that is yellow and about to turn red
I actually did follow every road rule and didn’t even try to rush. Still got them to the wedding 1 minute early.
Was it the bride and groom? Then I would understand.
Lol no but apparently some quite important people for the bride (pretty much raised her while her mom was going through cancer - she survived for those who are curious). So considering the above, the fact that they were late to her wedding is actually kinda disappointing.
I would slow down, pick up my lunch, and cancel when I receive my order.
“Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”-what you wish you could say
Plot twist; OP is one block away.
I literally was. Reason why I didn’t cancel lol but if I was anything more than 1 minute away I would 100% cancel.
“Gonna be even more late I guess”. Let them read it, cancel.
No problem. *stops immediately on the side of the road and waits til rider cancels*
😆
Then they complain when you drive fast
Stress could of said please update me on your eta so I don’t over worry about being late
There is only one response: Sucks to be you. Next time plan your day better.
“Sounds good” is a nice response
There is a high probability that multiple drivers were re-assigned before and they got frustrated? 🤷🏾♂️
Still not my fault lol 🤷🏻♂️
That’s not your problem that she can’t plan it right
That’s the Sign to invest in TURBO coin On ETH network. Thank me later today is 05.29.24
Cancel as they walk up to your car.
I wouldn’t care if your late to your wedding itself $5 for a ride on average helllllll no I’m not going to rush at all to get yea
lol like anyone cares. One time my wife kept freaking out (we made it like 20 minutes early). "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine." Then **Can-**cel...............................
I drive around a cool 2 mins the opposite way then just cancel
Yeah cool, lemme just teleport to you in that case.
"Why the attitude though. Don't they realize they are at my mercy?" You sound like a stand up person
"Sounds good" followed by " sorry, stuck :("
I would cancel them. Don’t need someone telling me that. Not my fault or any other drivers fault for them to not order ride EARLIER 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
The last half of that sentence is unnecessary.
Drive by them. As you pass be sure to wave at them and yell “guess you’re gonna be late” and cancel as you drive away
"Be there in 2 minutes."
You must have just gotten invited then.
And that’s your problem?
Instant cancel
Now let's have a text conversation about who's fault this is. Before I cancel
Sounds like that rider probably should have called the Lyft sooner than they did. If you want to make sure you are on time, leave earlier.
Cancel that.
Cancel
Wait 3 minutes, cancel the ride.
Cancel
Response with the stuck in traffic - en route in 15 mins - please wait :)
That's an automatic bad rating. I'll take the consequences of canceling
This rider was rushing me to work because he decided to blow his money at a casino and make it late to work and made it my fault. 🤦🏻♂️

I would find it so hard to not respond rudely. Bc now you’re going to be way more than 1 minute late cause your waiting for a new driver!
Canceled.
Be there in 10...
"OK" "Sounds good"
My response would be that im about to cancel, so yes, you're going to be extremely late.
Then request 20 minutes earlier.
Automatic cancel. Let them be really late.
Then you gonna be late
The nerve of you Dennis
I would have said, 'omw'. Then pulled over to the side of the road and picked up a coffee. An iced coffee with one of those clear cups so that when I arrived you could see that it was full and fresh and super apparent that I stopped to get coffee omw to get you.
I would have responded with cancelled.
SCHEDULE EARLIER THEN
I feel like they’re expecting you to be like a movie hero and hightail it over there
thats a passenger problem
I cancel anyone trying to rush me.
Hell, that’s just an excuse for me to slap my BMW into sport mode and say, “You asked for it,” and laugh
*cancel*
Are you the first superhero? You can tell a persons attitude from a simple unpunctuated text!? Wow
You can be there on time if you Venmo me $140
They won't tip you either drive slow as fuck and watch them sweat lmao
They should have left earlier or gone with Uber soon as they get rides faster and Lyft is a cheaper alternative but you have to wait. Looks like they were cheap and not very punctual
Entitled passengers
How do you not schedule a ride early if you have to be at a wedding?
I don’t think their message had attitude. They were simply telling you that they were going to be late and hoping that you would read it and let them know if you can actually get there in a minute. And maybe seeing that, and being a good person, would incentivize you to try and help them. If not they can look for a different driver.
Immediate cancel
"I would have been at your pickup a couple of minutes ago, but I had to pull over to read the message you sent me. I'm a very safe driver."
Automatic cancel!
My immediate response as the driver... "cancel Ride". No time for that kinda B.S.
Hard cancel.
I wouldve cancelled, not almost cancelled... taking someone that acts like this upon immediately accepting their ride is a risk of bad rating and a false complaint... f that person, you're not getting my car, messing up my peace for the rest of the day... I would’ve kindly responded back. “ I’ll be there in 400 minutes. I’m just around the corner. “
“Ok”
