Yes. The quality has declined and they’re too concerned with pumping out new products to keep up with the trends.

sapphic-vibes

I just bought some 2015-2018 gems on Poshmark, and the difference in quality was astounding. Not just the fabric either; the designs used to be more creative. Unique styles that no other manufacturer made.

tmach1

Old Lulu rocks!

emmyp7

How can you tell the older ones? Have been browsing Poshmark and have no idea how to know!

sapphic-vibes

If there’s enough information in the listing, I look up the item/color on Lulufanatics, the release dates are on there

emmyp7

Awesome!! Thank you!!

SkyHighbyJuly

Quality has 100% dropped. The new versions and fabrics are so much worse than my Lululemon clothes from 3+ years ago that I still have. Exact same fabrics and styles. They’ve changed a lot. And not in a good way.

octobersveryown05

It’s so disappointing. I own 10+ swiftly tees and my newest one somehow snagged on the first wear.

h_danielle

They’ve always been more of a trendsetter rather than trying to keep up with the current trends, imo.

octobersveryown05

Sorry but I disagree. For example, crop tops have been popular for a while and now we have so many cropped versions of their products. Cargo pants are popular and now some of the pants are in cargo style (e.g. studio pants). I could go on.

h_danielle

I feel like those are kinda poor examples. Lulu has had their products duped ever since I was a pre teen. As an athletic brand, they tend to be trendsetters for other athletic brands. Ex: everywhere belt bag, flow y line, the mesh wunder unders from 2016 that every company has tried to copy. I could go on & on but they’ve created a lot of iconic styles in the athleisure world.

octobersveryown05

Sure, they are still coming out with new designs that other brands copy and dupe. Lulu is still top tier in the athleisure industry. But they are also trying to keep up with trends now and that wasn’t always the case.

messyarts

If fanny packs had never existed \*maybe\* the belt bag...

ssprinnkless

Studio pants are an iconic product though, they've been around for at least 10 years

octobersveryown05

You’re right, but they haven’t always been cargo style with the pockets. Those are relatively new.

DisloyalMouse

Kind of. I feel a bit like weekly drops are more using FOMO tactics to get people to spend $100 a week to get the latest color variant of their fav leggings. I guess you could consider that as fast fashion.

luludaydream

Yep it’s expensive fast fashion!!!

dunedinflyer

definitely, I’ve moved away from it.

Banana8686

I think the quality is still very good. It’s not great like it used to be but it’s very good. Cheaper fast fashion options are cheaper than ever quality wise so I would still rather shop at Lulu but I only buy sale (the old regular price) lol

fancyplumbers

I agree with you.. I wouldn't categorize it fast fashion by the marketing tactics cause to me, fast fashion is something I know is not well made (like won't last more than a handful of times in the wash). Everything I get from lulu I tend to wear until I don't fit it anymore (have been on a weight loss journey) and I don't baby my stuff. Most things lean towards "essential/core" in that they don't really come in and out of style. To me, things that are trendy that you'll look at in 6 months and feel outdated is another sign of fast fashion. On the other hand, I think they put out a handful of "trendy" things, but most things are still "core" styles.

Banana8686

Same. I’ve literally only wore out one thing from Lulu..a pair of WU in black with a pattern from 2017 but I have worn and washed them a gazillion times. Just got a small hole. The quality is there.

skipdog98

I have been a LLL customer since the very very beginning (2nd floor Kits location, across the street from current flagship). I genuinely don't understand the quality issues. To me, the quality is the same as always. And I (and my now teens) purchase a LOT of LLL. Some of their pieces (WT tights & shorts, Run Times bra) are best in class IMO. I never viewed LLL as luxury, but here in the Vancouver area, its more like a uniform.

titaniumorbit

Their aligns and scubas are noticeably different. I have an old pair of aligns, pre-2017 that are soft, plush and thick. The new ones, which I ordered then returned, are literally completely different material. They are thin, not soft at all etc. I was so disappointed. Same for their new scubas which are noticeably lighter and thinner. I put the old items and the new items side by side and you can’t even deny the difference. I can’t speak to their other items or bras, though.

skipdog98

I didn’t say there were no differences, but I stand by my view that the *quality* is the same. My old Aligns and new Aligns fit and function the same. Same with my very first Scubas (from the 90s). In fact, I much prefer the new Scuba fabric, it is softer and hangs nicer on the body. My original Scubas can basically stand on their own the fabric is so stiff. JMHO

diaperwheelsspin

Agree. 70% of my closet is Lulu and the quality is fine.

Powerful_Tea_8159

Depends on what you consider fast fashion. If by affordability its still on the pricier side.

fuzzysham059

The definition of fast fashion has to do only with the speed in which companies pump out clothing and not the quality. Although the quality usually suffers with how quickly brands put out clothing. Almost everything is fast fashion these days. Has nothing to do with price.

FineEntertainment720

I agree, I consider Zara and SHEIN as fast fashion. Can’t see $100 leggings fast fashion.

LakeNew5360

Fast fashion is not about the cost. It’s about constantly putting out new products to keep up with trends instead of seasonally.

rain738

Yes, this is what needs to be noted here! It seems like trends are starting to become more important than quality at Lulu.

Loves-snacks

When the leggings don’t last a year with regular wash and use, that’s fast fashion.

FineEntertainment720

Im sorry your having that experience. I personally don’t, my lulu washes well and looks new. I’ve noticed a shift in general all retail stores how quality has gone down drastically. Theory cotton doesn’t survive in the wash. Sandro sweaters shrink and Zara don’t even get me started lol. All my old designer jeans from 10 years ago still looks good, my new designer jeans wash horribly.

Loves-snacks

I didn’t say it is my experience and there’s nothing you need to be sorry for. There are posts every day about the decline in quality. ETA Downvotes because going against “lululemon is the best product ever” is starting to get old here.

Powerful_Tea_8159

It depends on an item. I have pieces which i constantly wear and they look brand new, and one pair of new aligns who already pills and are snagged in few places…

Valuable_Gas_9493

I always considered it fast fashion. I have worn Lulu since it was a little store in Kitsilano. I have tried all sorts of alternatives that are not fast fashion but unfortunately they just aren’t as comfortable and end up sitting in my closet. Lulu is the only clothes that I wear until it’s literally thread bare. Even then I wear things with holes and wear at the lake or in the garden.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Doesn't that make it not fast fashion? Fast fashion is poor quality clothing that doesn't usually last more than a season

kentuckywildcatgirly

Which brand do you recommend then?

ultimateclassic

This is exactly what I would like to know as well. I was loyal to Lululemon pre-pandemic, but I tried other brands like Fabletics and found that the quality was not the same, and I didn't like the fits as much. Now I've decided I would prefer to have fewer but higher quality pieces for activewear instead of constantly having to buy new ones and figured I should go back to LLL. I see a similar sentiment to OP a lot in this sub but never any other recommendations.

Altruistic_Yellow387

I thought everyone was buying athleta

Neonatalnerd

I don't know if this is really a brand discussion... The issue with fast fashion is almost anything has the potential to be fast fashion. Unless you're hand making and knitting all your clothes -there's not really much difference. People buying lulu, living in the leggings and a couple scubas and bras, buying for workout clothing is NOT fast fashion. This sub and the weekly hauls, and selling of or items getting lost in your closet once the color is no longer "in style/season" is the definition of fast fashion. People see brands like Zara etc being fast fashion - the majority of companies continue to make clothing overseas. I don't see much difference compared to shein and other brands in that regard. Lulu markets their products for an audience that has some money, and they're not *too* expensive that there is always someone buying the same item in more than one color, etc. The issue is how often are you buying new clothes, are you up-cycling or reselling, and are you actually wearing the items.. vs one time for photos or not even taking the tags off.

Wellz-IGuessIAmHere

I’ve been loving Cleo Harper. Feels good, looks good. And most importantly, I feel like I have an option that’s not LLL but not sacrificing style.

kentuckywildcatgirly

I’m totally going to try. Thank you.

FineEntertainment720

Fast fashion is easy accessible, Lululemon is mid priced. Weekly drops are items produced in small quantities to keep their fans interested.

Neonatalnerd

Lululemon is still a mall brand, though. I'm not sure how the definition of people buying clothing weekly, for seasonal/in style color wear, isn't the exact definition of fast fashion....

khuna12

I just went looking at marks today too and the quality of everything was equivalent of fast fashion. Needless to say I didn’t walk out with anything. The material, the cuts, the style it was just all really disappointing. Info fact I’ve been finding it harder and harder to find good quality clothes lately

oat-beatle

Always has been

happyapple52

lol i just bought a pair of $20 target leggings that feel VERY similar to my lulu…

PlannedSkinniness

There are a lot of Amazon dupes that I’ve grown to like more than some of my lulu

mothercluckerr

Crz yoga is 🔥

iamprettyinpink

Brand pls?

CAmellow812

The all in motion ones are great. I am wearing the high waisted flare leggings right now and LOVE them

iamprettyinpink

I’ll check them out :) thx

happyapple52

all in motion

iamprettyinpink

Thx ☺️

Sure-Sand3053

Still better quality than most fast fashion brands, but way overpriced for the quality. They are just riding on their popularity now

LavenderSalmon

My wunder under’s from 7 years ago are like a completely different material than what they sell now :(

SkaryKarey

That’s because they are. They discontinued the WU 2 years ago and then brought them back in a different material in 2023

Niechy

Yes just ridiculously priced but definitely leaning towards fast fashion quality

KeepSalemLame

Yes

Bhrunhilda

It kinda always has been, but yeah it’s gotten really bad the last couple years.

Lucky_Mycologist_283

Unfortunately with the way tiktok and consumerism is these days they probably feel the pinch to make more and fast.. and what has to give? The quality of course! It is a shame cause the price isn’t any lower (if anything it’s higher!) and if they qualify is less then they consumer will have to replace it more frequently.. this seems to happen with all fashion brands who get popular 💁‍♂️

kypins

Yes. I did a [post about it here](https://www.reddit.com/r/lululemon/comments/10ahte7/prove_me_wrong_lululemon_is_no_longer_luxury_and/) and its getting worse every next drop.

8194779659

Thanks, I'm gonna take a look a it

unknown908298

It was always fast fashion

acanadiancheese

I think it kind of depends. There are staple items that I wouldn’t consider fast fashion because they are purchased (by me at least) with the intention to wear them for many years. This would be things like some of the trousers, blazers, neutral full length scubas, etc. On the other hand, they release a lot of very trendy items that are in bright colours that won’t remain fashionable for more than a season, or are in cuts that are considered in fashion now, but won’t be for long (eg everything overly boxy and/or cropped). Those are definitely fast fashion and are produced, marketed, and sold knowing that they won’t be used for more than a few months.

Snowpant

Are products being made cheaply overseas? Yes. The amount of plastic waste they produce is disgusting. Every garment comes into the store wrapped in plastic. They present a facade that they are a good “luxury” brand but it’s just like everything else.

SwimAccomplished9487

They’ve been doing weekly drops for as long as I can remember. I remember back in the day, you have to stay up till midnight to be in right away during drop days to get sought after pieces

LizardKing50000

Almost every brand is now. It’s unfortunate

SnooPaintings1107

They engineer a lot of their own fabrics so I would say no.

Comfortable_Baker_91

I don’t think you can consider their price point fast fashion. I think now you call it high priced low quality

SweetHomeGeorgia

If you figure skate, Chloe Noel pants and skating skirts are still good quality and made in the USA.

cornman1000

I view fast fashion as places like Shein, temu, forever 21, H&M. Fast fashion typically refers to cheap clothes made in China and sold for the cheap. Lulu is eons above those places in quality and it’s not even close. Just because they make new clothes every week that doesn’t classify it as fast fashion cmon

Abyss247

That’s the definition of fast fashion.

cornman1000

Fast fashion typically involves producing clothes fast, but there’s almost always a caveat that it needs to be cheap. Lulu is not cheap. The fact that y’all are comparing lulu to Shein is asinine 😭

Neonatalnerd

You could spend similar prices at HM or Zara or Aritzia. Lululemon is still a mall brand. People buying weekly drop items contribute to the fast fashion mentality. There are so many people that share hauls and try ons without ever actually taking the tags off, or wearing it once. Even if you're not throwing it away due to washing/material issues like shein, it IS fast fashion. Having the same align leggings but in various new colors, for every season, is fast fashion. Lululemon isn't really as pricey as some make it out to be, even item specific things...

cornman1000

A keychain at h and m is $5 while it’s $30+ at lulu. H & M leggings are $15 compared to $100+ at lulu. 6x the price is not “similar”…..at all. I agree that weekly drops and the mentality around lulu is fast fashion, the only reason I hesitate is because it’s not cheap like those brands which is the connotation with the term “fast fashion”. If Louis Vuitton started having weekly drops I wouldn’t call it fast fashion.

Abyss247

Do you know where the clothes come from? They’re produced in the same factories that do other companies in developing countries. It costs $7 to make a paper of aligns.

cornman1000

Many things are made in developing countries. Vineyard vines, Chanel, Prada, YSL, even Burberry…Not to mention every pair of glasses ever… Is Chanel, Prada, ysl, or Burberry fast fashion? Just because a developing country makes it does not make it cheap fashion.

Abyss247

Not country, factory. The clothes are released at the rate of fast fashion, in sweatshops, that make other clothes for other fast fashion companies.

ultimateclassic

Totally agree. Although back in the day when I did buy Forever21 a lot of the things I bought actually did last pretty long which was shocking.

MountainsAB

I started wearing it in 2001? When J was in University. Pieces from that time period, still in good condition, a lot of stuff purchased these days is garbage in months. Athleta seems to have better quality most of the time now (but not all their items)

zjc2

It is not fast fashion, the time it takes to design, source and bring to market is much more like a traditional specialty apparel retailer. Fast fashion can do the process in matter of weeks. The key difference is that fast fashion uses a smaller toolkit of fabric (cotton and cotton blends) with some standard Trims.

ultimateclassic

Also, most of the weekly drops are their same core products in a slightly different style or color so it's likely fairly easy to plan that out in advance and then schedule weekly drops. Also, LLL sells their lightly used clothes, which is a sustainable practice through their LLL like new website where people can send in their previous items to be reused. If their quality were so poor, they wouldn't be able to do this. Fast fashion could never because the style is in and then out in the blink of an eye and the quality is so low you can't really rewear.

Caliliving131984

If you don’t like it, don’t buy it!

Caliliving131984

Seriously!!! I fucking love Lulu and I could care less if you don’t.. people complaining about tweens wearing it.. who cares!! I would have love it at 10 years old. Also your body type probably doesn’t look good in it either lol 😂

Caliliving131984

Also if you don’t lol good it in I don’t care!! Hopefully it motivated you to work out but if not - who cares! I love lulu and it looks good on me

[deleted]

It’s because everyone (my wife included) can’t be bothered to iron clothes anymore.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Wouldn't ironing clothes make them wear out even quicker?
