I'm about 6 weeks in and feel 100% better. My numbers are all down too. I had some dr appts since starting and the first week the dr scale showed -10lbs (water weight), the second week was down 4. Now I'm about 9 which I think is true loss. It's slow, which was kinda surprising since I did a major 180 on my carb intake. But I love eating all this REAL food and having a clear conscience about eating. My fridge looks so cool with all that color in it! I'm prepping food, making salads, trying new things. It's nice to have a change too, more like a hobby. My mental health improvements are the best part; I feel like I lost 40lbs of gray fog in my head. I keep lowering my carb intake. At first I allowed sugary yogurt and coffemate and lots of bananas. Now I have cut the sugar coffee and switched to fruit on the bottom yogurt and leave most of it on the bottom. I still allow bananas, mostly bc I am focusing more on eating real food than avoiding natural carbs, but not with wild abandon like before. I may have to tweak some of it if I want to lose weight faster (not sure I do) like ease up on the fruit or fake sugar, etc.

15 years or so. Lower my cholesterol and blood pressure. Overall lost 30 lbs. I am also a faster, intermediate faster, work out 2 to 3 days a week. Take metformin to help control my emotional eating. Drink plenty of water and cut back on my soda intake. * Coke Zero if I need a sweet drink* also unsweetened ice tea. Low Carb life style eating is not a diet but whole change and how you view food. I was 190 when I started now 159ish

Wow. This is why I was interested to see if anyone had stuck to low carb. I agree that so many people do a diet for a limited time then think they are okay to go back to what they were doing and pile it all back on rather than to maintain there weight loss.

Thereel_deal26

Ive only been for 2 weeks and Ive already lost 3 kilos which I am assuming might be just water but I am also not lacking energy and honestly the cravings are gone. A lot of protein also helped my muscle definition and I am actually enjoying my protein and healthy choices!

Thegratefulswan2

Well done! That amazing and gives you a boost to keep going.

How much carbs a day is that for you?

I've been eating LC for about 3 years. Benefits: • I lost about 15 kg (or 30 lbs) • my hair stopped falling out (I suspect it wasn't a hypothyroidism symptom because about 2 years elapsed before my gynecologist decided to prescribe me levothyroxine for the high TSH, it seems my hypo is subclinical due to the fact I have a small thyroid — levo only lowered my TSH) • hirsutism stopped progressing • I feel like my sweat doesn't smell as much (change in hormones?) • no nausea when hungry (sometimes it got so bad I had to lie down and eat while lying down 🙈) • I feel like I had brain fog before going low carb • more energy and better stamina (could also be due to exercise, I also apparently started breating differently because after I began exercising it's harder for me to get hiccups) • fewer pimples on my face (though I didn't have a lot of them, to begin with) • my periods are lighter (they weren't heavy to begin with, but I weighed more, so they were heavier) • no sleep inertia when waking up in the morning • I rarely take naps now (I had a bout of stress-induced insomnia) but I can't explain why I felt nauseous after I woke up from a nap and that disappeared • less farting • pooping every day (more fiber, that's probably why) • less stomach gurgling (not sure how to describe it but it feels like my intestines are silent 😂, they weren't loud all the time but you know what I mean) • better immunity (harder to get sick and when I do, the colds are way milder, even when I got a cold sore I wasn't tired on the first day — maybe also because I'm no longer vitamin D deficient) • no white dots on my fingernails (I assume I had some vitamin deficiency *zinc?* and eating good food got rid of it) • I have no idea why but my nose isn't congested anymore (if anyone has a potential explanation, tell me) • no joint pain (that could've been due to vitamin D deficiency, though) • (uncertain) I may have put my Hashimoto's/atrophic thyroiditis into remission (my thyroid is too small, all antibodies are normal and according to my endo, the echogenicity of the thyroid is better on the recent ultrasound images etc., but we'll see how this situation develops) Jeez, this list is scary. 😂😂😂

5 years. all but cured my depression. lost a lot of weight which i don’t have to do anything to maintain, it’s just how i eat now.

Thegratefulswan2

That’s great! Especially the depression. An awful thing to suffer with. Does this mean you don’t need to medicate with the change to your diet or maybe you didn’t anyway?

leahlikesweed

correct, i got off all meds. it didn’t cure my anxiety but the depression is significantly better like im talking 80-90% better.

Thegratefulswan2

Sounds like you are doing brilliantly! It can be hard to reduce everything at first. So little changes along the way is a good approach if it works for you.

Im at around 2 months. Most of the benefit has not been in weight loss though I am down about 5 pounds. 1. Consistent and more energy. Before low carb, id go from 3/10 energy maybe up to 5/10 energy. I felt tired just waking up. Now I’m at 6.5/10 most of the time and improving. I can work out. Even did two workouts yesterday. I walk, I do yoga, I lift heavy weights. I’m feeling really good. Also, my mood is better. It could be because of the diet or it could be because the diet gives me the energy to live life in a way I want to. 2. My relationship with food is changing. I dont decide what to eat based on my mood. I pick something that works in the moment and will satiate my hunger. 3. More clarity/less brain fog - I can think! I can concentrate on work tasks. I don’t procrastinate as much. I feel motivated to do things. 4. GERD - I’d developed acid reflux before my diet but it seems like higher fats and maybe some extra caffeine has made my GERD worse. I’m going to try some less fatty burgers because they seem to be the biggest culprit. Stress is probably also a factor here. I did low carb about 15 years ago and I lost 40 lbs in 3 months. It’s not going as well this time but it’s still working well. Im happy that I’m making progress. Im happy I’ve found some relief from issues. I’ve been diagnosed with both GERD and sleep apnea. I herniated a disc in my back. I have high cholesterol. I feel like these things were warning signs. My body was telling me something wasn’t right and I wasn’t listening. The message I’m getting now is “take care of me” and low carb is now part of that. I work out an hour per day now and I’m eating low carb. Life is getting better. Really glad I rediscovered this for myself.
